Did you get any good video today???

Jim called me and said you would be up there....I was just teeing off at Black...but considered turning around and heading back up there...

I played the course twice through back to back on Friday and could have done another but I was getting drained....

In hindsight I should have chilled out for 15 or 20 and then played it again....

I thought the course was a great shape except for a few things I noted....which are...

1) What is up with the BASKETS??? Those things are brand new and the chains are already rusted on quite a few of them....

2)Many of the gravel tee boxes have big ruts in them, but they are easy to play around, and could probably be fixed with a shovel.......permanent tee pads???

3)THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL COURSE IN THE WORLD!!!

It was just about in full bloom on Friday and I bet it is looking good today!!!

The three tee locations for each hole really provide something for everyone...

The Red Boxes are a SUPER Cool warm-up before playing one of the longer layouts.....and these holes are also "do-able" for new players and family members....

The White is a beautiful layout and is very demanding, but the crown jewel is the Blues....hands down....

Championship caliber...I am surprised we haven't seen any really big tourneys scheduled out there already...though it does provide some challenges....

The bottom line is....if you are not playing that course whenever possible you are missing out...

Some of the most unique greens in disc golf.....I just cant get over how hole 2 looks from the Blue tees....

And the view from the tee of hole 9, from any pad, is just incredible...Hole 9 is the one with the big rocks surrounding the basket....probably my favorite if I had to pick one....

Incredible....

I cant wait to get a cabin....

In reviewing this post, and thanks to Heath, I have realized that....alas, this is not the most beautiful course in the world.

Horseshoe Canyon this weekend is going to be a strong contender...

But really, Heath & Fish's masterpiece of Bella Vista has to have a landslide victory......for those of you who were at USDGC, well you were getting taken great care of, but even the course you were playing surly pales in comparison to the Branchwood Golf Course...

For those of you who were not at USDGC and still did not play the Branchwood Open....Keep your eyes and ears peeled for another chance......you won't want to miss it....

The Lodge is an awesome course, and beautiful. I can't wait to get back and go at it again. Ball golf, schmall golf is right, you can't compare the two and shouldn't try to. Just enjoy the venue, the game, and the comradarie! Can't wait to see the 2nd phase of what is already an awesome locale! Keep up the good work and know that when I come I'll be bringing Arkansas beer for ya' Jim.

And as much as it pains me to say it Twoputt is right. Don't try and compare to the Canyon, it's not fair to the other courses. And please be careful not to break anything while you wander around staring at natures beauty.

i will be getting out there sometime this week to start laying out the skeleton and figure out which direction it should go and where to connect the holes. It is going to start behind the driving range and finish around hole 1 on the original course.

This course will be mostly playing around the creek on the NW part of the property. The creek is awesome because it is only a foot deep and it will be VERY RARE to ever lose a disc in. There are more rock areas that are aetheticly pleasing.

I also will be having a get together out there this weekend to start marking and start working on the grees.

So far the leader in the clubhouse for a name of the 2nd course is Moccasin Creek. The course has at least 6 holes where the windy creek will come into play. Its a very shallow creek that will be very forgiving for retrieving your discs out of. Even the 3 ponds that will be a factor on the course are very clear and pretty shallow.

Here are some of the first pics of a couple of the holes. The Blue stars are where the buckits are going.

This hole is in the middle of the front nine. right around 320ft but plays shorter due to the fact that your at least 30 ft above the pin. One of the signature holes and possibly the hole that the course gets its name. As you can see the creek snakes in front of the pin, but you can't see that the creek snakes back around behind the pin making this a very unique and tough location. Losing a disc in this creek will be nearly impossible because it is very shallow (worst case scenario is that you need a long stick to get it out)

From the PIN
http://a471.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/80/l_b6f71b1395f25eb1a844cc540c4814a6.jpg

Another hole near the middle of the course will be this slightly uphill hole with a pond to the right, but the pond is about 30ft above the tee and about 15-20ft above the basket. You can see the pitch of the hill where Jim is working the Dozer. A right handed golfer will be tempted to thro the big hyzer over the Cedar tree and pond (Dead tree in pic will be gone.) A lefty will throw any driver of their choice, the hill actually makes it a ver lefty friendly hole.

Well I might not be a bag tag champion...

But I now know how to spell hospitality....

We got out to the course at about 10:00 and sighted the Taylor Beast almost immediately.....

Jim showed us around the new course in his flatbed half ton...until we got to a point where we couldn't drive any further but, Jim had told us to be "on the lookout" for a Bulldozer, and we saw it around the same time.....

So Jim jumped on the Bulldozer and started working while dad and I drove the truck back up to the house and (my favorite part) get the Jeep so we can drive in further....!!!

I just had a blast driving around back there and seeing Big Jim do his Bulldozer work was amazing!!!

If we would have know Jim Taylor back when we were building Blackhawk, it would have turned that huge volunteer effort into a weekends work....

Dad and I also got to play around on the regular course (name? since "the lodge" is now insufficient?), and the regular course is playing beautifully...

And to top it all off....

Jim and Debbie served up the most delicious ribeye cuts I have ever seen......with green beans & potatoes, sauteed mushrooms and grilled sweet & regular potatoes.....

All in all it was an absolute blast of a day and I just wish scheduling would have let everyone come out....

Course Report - Track is muddy but tolerable. The area from the basket at 16 to the bunker on 18 is pretty muddy. I have a trackhoe digging out dry dirt from the side of the hill, a backhoe carrying it to the area on the north end of the lake and a bulldozer grading it all smooth. I am trying to have it in good shape for tomorrow.

Based on the maps that's the most direct path.
Once you pass the Metropolos of Wynona...
State Hwy 11 will join St Hwy 99 in about 3 miles.

In less than one more mile on the left,
Look for the Taylor Drilling Sign.
( Don't Remember How its worded)
Turn left and follow the gravel raod.
Stay towards the left shortly after turning in.
and drive all the way down and park next to the double wide.

You will pass under a sign that says "The Lodge"
You are here.

First, my condolences to the Treats. Sorry about your loss. Sounds like you got a "Good Sign" though. All is well and at peace. Now, the other reason for my post. We recently had a good friend pass away unexpectedly. Good family man developed some complications and died very unexpectedly. The oldest son went to school with our son Jeremy. The mother has been ill for nearly 20 years with MS. She is in a nursing home and with the loss of the father, the kids are all alone now. Ron was in the heating and air conditioning business and we are in the process of moving all of the items the kids don't want to keep to our place to be auctioned off. If any of you know someone who might be interested in seeing a sale bill of the auction please have them contact me so that I can get one to them. I would really like to have a good turnout for this event, May 3rd. The oldest son is now an athletic trainer and married, the younger son is still in college and the daughter works and lives in tulsa.

May 04 2008, 08:20 PM
Sure thing Heath...I would love to waste time at the Lodge with you...

Dad and I have been at the Lodge all day.

We pulled in this morning and found Jim and Debbie doing some mowing and Big Jim was wearing a very fashionable looking Chandlerstock bucket hat! Who knew that guy could switch out biker leathers for tie-dye so easily! :D

Dad and I had the great pleasure of going through one of the initial runs through the new course, Moccasin Creek...

...so since we are familiar with the land, Kevin's original layout, and already in the swing of the course design thing from our efforts at Riverside we were ready to tackle the task!

We spend all day out on the new course, Jim on the big machinery and us in the Mule, we went through and were doing a number of tasks on each hole (staking tee boxes, measuring, marking, trimming, and tweaking) in order to get everything ready for this weekend.

As for a status update:

I spaced bringing the camera, do not have pics yet (but it looks like I am going to go play with Heath tomorrow so I will take some then)

This first run through pulling the distances of the Blue pads we came up with were 3226 for the front and 3397 for the back for a combined total of 6623 ft.

There will not be Red, White, and Blue on every hole, but more on an "as needed" philosophy.

I did not get a chance to take a look at the original course, but I know the new course is looking great.

No baskets yet, it looks like we are using temporaries this weekend.

Jim and Debbie are well, as is Ranger(the most stunning looking Labrador I have seen in an age, and Big Jim's buddy)

So stay tuned for more updates as we near what is sure to be the most memorable tournament of the season...

I like that disc thanks, it was that or a Ace race, which I will look for this weekend. Thanks AT. It was kinda funny cause I found a disc today and passed it on to find its way to its owner. I got home and my wife told me about your call. good karma I guess. Did you go swimming? last time I saw it it was about 30 ft out on a thin layer of ice 2 holes before the island hole.

It is good to hear my favorite Treat's have been helping Jim whittle away at his to do list! As Juniorlicious has said the Moccassin Creek Course is going to be test #2 to get to disc golf warrior status. Bring all your shots...

Also as Andrew has pointed out WE NEED BASKETS!!! I know Joyle is bringing a few... any others out there that can help out give me a shout!

MUTT... The format is Singles... 2 rounds... one on each course. If Joyle is staying for Dubs on Sunday we will be playing the new course as well.

Joe I have one of those in-step baskets, not as good as some of the innova baskets but it beats using a tree. I am not staying sunday so if someone can bring it back to the city, I would be more than willing to let you use it this weekend. Just let me know...

Well I don't know about In-Step baskets....

....but, having spent day 2 at the Lodge, I can remember how to spell hospitality again. I think I can speak for Heath as well that the Taylors are the best kind of people there are. I just feel privileged to be able to meet and work alongside such great folks.

I have showed the new course, Moccasin Creek, to Heath and family, and he was in "wow" mode.

I have also captured a certain quantity of images of the holes, along with some descriptions. No, there are no baskets in the photos so you can just imagine for now. I tried to explain a little bit about each hole. I am no Gary Nail, so it might take me a try or two to get these pictures on here....

Awesome, I was going to call you, but I figured Courtney would probably just have been getting the kid to bed or something, I pulled one of those with Heath last night.

Sometimes I forget everyone does not stay up late...

But back to the course, to tell you the truth, I am really digging it.

It did not measure out as long as I thought it would from the Blues. I was expecting Blackhawk distance and I got Dovillio distance...but that ain't bad!

Hole twelve is a hanger for sure.

So many of these holes are just spectacular man.

You started it up, and pops and I brought it home.

It was essential that we had been out there before with you, so that we knew what your plan was. I actually thought that we were going to have holes 13 and 14 be one hole and make an awesome par 5.

Jim has also progressed a long way on his new watering hole "The Lodge". As Jim and I discussed, the term "The Lodge" can/should be used for A. The Taylor property. B. The original course. and now C. The Catina.

It has a sweet looking stage and it looks like there are going to be some tunes a-crankin'!

I forgot to take pictures of that today, but just come on down this weekend, you know Big Jim and Joe Rotan are going to be Twisting this one up big time!!!

Still stuck in WOW mode. You have never been upgraded until you've had a Jim and Debbie Taylor Upgrade.

I hauled my wife and 2 little girls (4yrs and 19 months) with me to the Lodge yesterday. Foolish-- yes, well intentioned-- absolutley, destined for failure early in the round--without question.

In steps my hero -Jim Taylor- put your silly little wagon back in the van and use the Mule he says. So after a quick carseat transfer-yeah, I put a carseat on a mule, strapped the youngest in and off we went five merry golfers on a trek around the Lodge! Ok is was really just three golfers and my two amazing little girls. (Mule = 4-seater, 4x4, Jammin' stereo with great tunes, Golf cart extraordinaire!!)

I could go on and on about all of the great shots Andrew and I both threw, but the best way to describe the round is Hole #17(The Island). Andrew tees off-splash down, Heath tees off-splash down(but **** that pink Comet nearly went in the hole), Stacey tees off- please validate her ticket--parked it inside 10'. Lets try again shall we--Andrew-splash, Heath-skip off, splash, Stacey--yeah she stoned it again. Glad she didn't listen to me about throwing form the whites or reds. Momma's got game!

All this and burgers for lunch with Jim and Debbie. I truly believe these may be two of the best people I have ever had the privlege of meeting and calling friends. Heck Stacey even gave the girls a bath (man did they need it) at the house while Andrew and I watched Jim and the boys make and install a bridge for the new course. "Taylor-made" to quote Jim, and yes it is.

One other very cool thing we saw (aside from snakes) was the herd of 9 or 10 high school age guys that were heading out to play the Lodge course as we left. According to Jim and Debbie, this is an almost daily occurence. Talk about growing the game, they are gonna explode the popularity. Meccha may have moved north of Tulsa :D

Seriously if you like/love the Lodge course, you are gonna be blown away by the new course. Man I can't wait to play this course--it is more than worth the 6+ hour round trip. Kevin-another masterful layout, you done good man!! TnT-way to help wrap it up and keep to Kev's dream. Jim and Debbie-can't say enough about or to you guys, you blow away all my expectations every time I see ya'll. Thank you again!

It is supposed to be a big dogleg down to the creek and then 14 was supposed to come back up the hill to the right. The dogleg actually adds distance.

If I only play one round can I quit and jam on my guitar at the shelter in the afternoon? I'll bring my own amp and microphone and I promise not to play above 98db. :)

I've got some new tunes and I can be the warm up band for the headliners.

Songs like....

Instead of the Beatles "Why don't we do it in the Road"....Modify the words to "Why don't we do it at the Lodge!" :)

Nobody normally listens to me anyway. :(

On a different subject....

I was walking past the mental hospital the other day, and all the
patients were shouting ,'13....13....13'
The fence was too high to see over, but I saw a little gap in the
planks and looked through to see what was going on.
Some jerk poked me in the eye with a stick.
Then they all started shouting '14....14....14'...

LODGE REPORT, Watered the grass again last nite. Heard the vacuum (tornado) just east of us, hope they didn't get much damage. Yes, it is springtime in Oklahoma. But, once again, The Lodge dodged a bullet. About the menu, had a question, What exactly are Cowboy Beans? I just assumed everyone knew, maybe it was my moms own recipe I never thought about it. When we were young my mom was pretty good at improvising and she could make a meal out of whatever we had in the house. Cowboy Beans, Brown beans, ground beef, chopped onions and spices.

That had to be the most fun I have ever had playing two rounds of golf. The group I had, Joe, kelDog, Big Dan Bougher and we had the mule to caddie us around. The mule was the difference in me playing or not playing. No way I could have walked that second round. ;)

Great job on the new course. I will be driving to Pawhuska a little more often as soon as the second course baskets are in. :D

Thanks Jim and Family for having us out for the weekend. And a HUGE thanks for bringing the dozer out to pull us out of the hole we seemed to find on #9. :o

No Chandler for our big showdown.

No Kelly Lane for any minis. :(

No NT to take any credit for anything.

Three people got a case of beer for their efforts at the park.

Twoputt might have got one too if he hadn't been out starting a ruckus in the gallery. :o

Bring your family out and quit being ashamed of us. You and Twoputt both do the same thing. Leave the family at home so they don't know how you really are. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Alright I see how youre scamming the masses now with your pyramid business.

You con the City of SAPulpa into buying baskets and donating the land.

You con the TDSA for labor to put in the baskets. :(

You throw in short dinky tee pads to ensure per-mature disc launch and skim the extra money for the good ones the city really wanted to put in. :o

Then you hold just enough minis to get an ace pot in pocket.

Then you never TD or you just flood the place so you dont have to TD at all.

All the while youre skimming the bottom of the pond to sell the plastic back to the casuals who dont know any better, and collecting interest off the ace pot.

Sounds like you went to The Snitchs school of No Pay Insurance Academy.

Why havent you bought your wife a horse and hired a maid to clean and baby sit the kid so you can go out and play DG all the time? :)

Anger management Dave. You need it. :(

Ill run a class tomorrow for you if you want. Ill let you guess on who the guest speaker is going to be. ;)

Ultimately an overview of the hole location in relation to each other would be helpful if you want to walk straight to a specific hole from the parking lot wouldnt you say? What if somebody had a heart attack and medical personnel needed to get there quick? Go ahead, trash my medical condition. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Or in your case, your intestine clogs up with crap again and you need to be taken to the hospital? Does Allied pay for Lifeflight? Only if its for you right? :)

If you start on # 12 then you shouldnt have to walk through 11 holes just to get there. With what Jims done so far I imagine hes probably already thought of that. I think the individual hole diagrams hes got so far are cool and he should think about printing up some caddie books and selling them. People could pay for advertising in them and it might get the word out about what The Lodge has to offer to the locals both here and around Pawhuska.

The credit for the hole markers goes to Mark Frye. He hails from kansas where he was a DGer through college. He calls Pawhuska home now and is a coach and disc golf advocate. He is really helping to get the local youth involved out here at the lodge. He is also doing his best to bring kansas dg to oklahoma, namely the lodge. Mark, I don't know if you read this but great job buddy. Furdog, I have already placed an order for some small bound books and yes, we do have an overview of both courses. Kevin, love your idea for advertising. When we get both courses done and get ready to order a bunch of small books like the Course Book for the '06
Am Worlds, then I will be looking for some advertisers so, if you have a business or just want to advertise a craft or a talent, let me know.

Furdog, you haven't been up to see the progress on the lodge clubhouse. We now have a really nice indoor stage. It measures 16' deep by 24' wide and is elevated about 14 inches above the rest of the floor. At the last tournament we had a lot of 2X4 studs still exposed, now we have nearly all the walls paneled, all the bar tops on and the sound is really good in the building. The building is approximately 3000 sf.
Any instruments you bring will be completely dry and safe.

OK guys, need some help here. Trying to raise the bar again here at the Lodge. I am looking for a system that would allow us to film live play on the course and transmit it to the clubhouse. I have been talking to video surveillance companies, video stores, two way radio companies. It appears there is some affordable stuff out there. My problem is, I don't want to order something from some company in California or New York and get it here and not be satisfied. The guy at Total Radio was going to check into it form me. Penny, yes the cabin is available for the weekend, everything is free of charge, the cabin, the RV, food, beverages. It is kind of one of those weekends where everybody is invited to come up and relax and enjoy themselves. Food, beverages and lodging are provided by THE LODGE. Everything else is optional. You can take the tour or stay at the lodge and play dg, hit golf balls, go fishing or just hang out. There is also a huge amateur rodeo in town this weekend that some may find interesting. Basically, you can come up this weekend and if we never see you, as long as you have fun, that is how we want it. :D

Just got through discussing the newest project for the lodge. Looks like for the TFO in September, we are going to have live webcast of the tournament, at least for some of the holes. Working on getting the a/c in by then and having live feed from the field to the clubhouse. :D

Thanks Dave, just learned how to do this quote thing. Pretty cool. Andrew and Penny came up friday nite and are still here, down at the cabin. Those two have fished and had fun all weekend. It was fun for me and deb to see young guys enjoy the place so much again. We had a great day and a great weekend. Thanks to all that came and especially to Karla Barton for those two awesome cakes. :D

I have heard you mention live cam, The Fam is headed up to Massachucets for Maple Hill this week and they are doing a live video feed. Here is the email info that I got for the live cam.

Tell all your friends to watch the website (Maplehillopen.com (http://maplehillopen.com/) ) for live web feeds and live scoring from the tourney. We plan on broadcasting at least the first drives at 8:00 AM EST on Friday. Also, we hope to interview players as they finish their rounds and turn in their score cards. All of this will be broadcast live via our web feed and archived for later viewing.

Maybe after the event you could trade tips on it. Steve Dodge the TD for Maple Hill is a cool guy who has tried some innovative stuff to enhance the sport. This year he had live tee time announcements on the web and I can't wait to see what else he has up his sleeve.

Well, I'm back in town after a great weekend at the Lodge. Spent a lot of time doing nothing, and wow, was that great!! Andrew and I spent from Friday night till Monday afternoon in Osage County.

We played part of a round from the red tees on Friday evening and then didn't touch a disc until Sunday afternoon. Teresa and Doug came up and we all piled into the mule and headed out for a round from the whites. After that it was nap time... :D

Jim and Deb took Andrew and I on a tour of the Tall Grass Prairie reserve on Saturday. We got to see the area where Jim grew up. And heard some great stories from his childhood.

We spent several hours fishing while we were there, and caught some very nice fish.

Aside from leaving my glasses at the bottom of the pond it was an excellent, and extremely relaxing weekend /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif. Note to self----remove glasses before entering the water.

Thank you Jim, Deb, and Leah for the wonderful hospitality!! You all are amazing!!

Deb, the homemade cinnamon rolls that you made and delivered to the pond on Sunday morning were so yummy. Thank you!!

Leah, thanks for the swimming invite, the water was perfect, not too cold not too warm. Thank you!! ;)

Jim, once your grounds-keeper leaves for Colorado, who is going to take over lawn mower duties? :D

And of course, a big Happy Birthday to JT!! You the man!!

Happy Birthday Jim Taylor!

What a time.

All I know, is that, had Penny not lost his specs on Monday, we were about to attach a boat to the Mule....

...so needless to say, aside from playing Moccasin Creek (object golf style) I think we used the facilities to the fullest.

The Lodge...fun...dangerously fun. :D

A big thanks to The whole Taylor family for being simply amazing hosts.

Karla Barton made an absolutely delicious cake, two of them actually.

And the best part of the weekend was Big Jim's Birthday Ring of Fire!!!

I tried hard to win a grasshopper house to collect my fishing bait in, but alas, was beaten by a kid who had thrown a disc about 5 times.

But I had my day... :D

The cabin is also looking great! Big Jim has Tv, bathroom w/ shower, and one badarse microwave!

Thanks again Jim, Debbie, and Leah.

Oh yeah, and I caught my first bass! :D:p

Furdog, It was a large-mouth. And don't ask which pond it was because we were sworn to secrecy by the Taylors. Andrew caught several bass, probably a total of 2-3 pounds total. Now, this fish story of the weekend comes from me. I'll have to wait to elaborate on it until I can think of the correct words to describe it. It was large....and yes, thats what she said. :D

If I had remembered my camera from the cabin, I could just post the pics. Think bassmaster...
