Jeff, this is Jim from The Lodge, all you have to do is show up and play, the course is open for play 24/7/365. As for directions from Wichita, take hwy 60 exit off I-35 thru ponca city to Pawhuska. Continue thru Pawhuska on hwy 60 to a Tee intersection 1 mile east of the (only) stop light. Turn south here and go 5 miles. You will need to be watching on the west side of the road for a sign that says Taylor Services.
If you happen to reach the intersection that turns east to Barnsdall, you need to turn around and go 1/2 mile back north. When you turn into the drive, take an immediate left and go to the end of the drive, you will be near hole one tee pad.

VOLUNTEER DAY AT THE LODGE
I am thinking about having a volunteer work day at the lodge, or weekend. The work will consist of carpentry, plumbing, electric and course work if needed. Basically, one good weekend with a lot of volunteers would probably put the lodge in good enough shape that I can punch it on out myself. I am letting my carpentar and helper go tomorrow. The work has just been way too rough and slow. I am not sure what weekend would work best so that we can get some volunteers. Input here would be appreciated. Also, may need someone who likes to paint and stain. If you don't want to work but just show up anyhow, you can always keep the volunteers supplied with liquid refreshments which I will most assuredly have plenty of, along with plenty of good food. IT's A WORK PARTY!!!!! :D
PS. here is my schedule.
This weekend Horseshoe
Next week, NE Texas, work
Next weekend, The Players Cup
The following week, South Texas, work.
The first available weekend I have will be two weeks from this weekend so we can look at any weekend after that.

Wayne, that works for me. Would like to know how many would come up for a TDSA/Lodge/Twisted party Saturday night. Would also need to know who would be requesting sleeping facilities other than camping. We have the RV, the cabin, and 2 beds in the house and lots of floor space. Plus all the living room furniture reclines and sleeps comfortably.
Somebody start a poll. How many people would attend the
TDSA/ Lodge/Twisted party Saturday night?
Also, do we have contact info for most of the TDSA members who have long since quit being active? Lets make a push to renew their involvement by inviting them to this party. If so, do you want to furnish me with the info and I can do mailouts or how would you recomment proceeding.

Is anyone else having trouble with the PDGA discussion board? Posted by JimmyG on December 5, 2008 at 7:13am in Tulsa Disc Sports Association TDSA
Back to Tulsa Disc Sports Association TDSA Discussions
Ever since the redesign of the PDGA website, I've found that using the Discussion board is painfully slow. Is it the extra time for the ads to load? Did they upgrade their hardware to match the new software demands? Anyone have any info on this?
Here's an idea, somebody start a poll, how many would like to see the PDGA moved to Tulsa where our IT guys really care and can keep the discussion board running smoothly.
Dave Wise could be our new leader.

[censored] em buckey if they can't take a joke!
I have been trying for a while now to convince everyone that the discgolfersrus site is much easier to use, more reliable, doesn't require a paid membership, doesn't sell you a magazine you don't get, lets you build your own page, lets you load up your music, photos, ads, just about anything you want. The chat feature is great too, it shows you who is online and you don't have to got to another page to get to it, its right on your page.
I know change is hard but why do all of you keep accepting this site as the only change available to you? The only option out there? Give it a try, use the Tulsa threads for a while and see how you like it. You can always come back here and wait for tournaments and ratings to load up. :p
You guys act like they are the only phone company in town.
If Tulsa moves over, the PDGA board will lose a great source of entertainment in information that many other clubs come in here to see. If we move, they will start to move also, just to see what is going on. At least give it a try until the PDGA gets their head out of their arse and gets this site fixed, if they ever do, because as it is right now, they couldn't give a crap what you think about how they are handleing things. :o

Just got back from The Lodge and a full review will follow later. But suffice it to say that after playing disc golf for 13+ years and nearly 200 courses, this was the one of my top 10 disc golf experiences ever. Course owner Jim Taylor provided for simply outstanding hospitality, setting me up with the Mule and then giving me a private tour of the new Moccasin Creek course and clubhouse.

(from Chief Jim at The LODGE) :
You might put on the board that The Lodge will be hosting a holiday party the weekend of the High Noon Flights, the 27th.
Nothing fancy just some sandwiches, beer, music and golf. We all love to play "dirty santa". Everybody brings a gift, it can be anything from something nice to something comical, I once brought some tampons. We draw numbers and the first person to go gets to pick a gift. Each succeeding person gets their choice of choosing from the unopened gifts or selecting one that someone else has already picked. Obviously the last person will have the luxury of choosing from the gifts that everyone else has already opened or the last remaining gift. It is fun. Just a little something extra to make the trip more worthwhile. Everything is free, including lodging for those who may want to spend the night. ...
.
.
p.s. a "Special Edition" of "High-Noon-Flights" will be out there that Saturday , Dec. 27 ! ...

So far, Deb has put on my desk a jar of her homemade peach jam, a gift basket full of good stuff like a coffee cup, Italian Chocolates, honey, coffe and more, an under the cabinet wine rack and a carpentar combo set including a level, square, carpentar pencils with carpentar pencil sharpeners, and another small level. Ton of fun. :D We had a ring of fire afterwards and gave away some neat prizes, including a full assortment of monkey butt stuff. Best I can recall, Mitchell won a chili mix and a jar of Deb's homemade peach jam, I think he also won the musical football cookie jar. Teresa won a chocolate martini mix and an under the counter wine rack. Wagle won a cool gift basket and a carpentar kit.
On saturday I actually played my first full round of disc golf. Me and Barton against Wayne Forest and a young gun named Gary who happens to be Rob Davis' nephew. I think me and Barton had the most fun, not sure what the score was. :D

Just got him yesterday. Apparently her boyfriend bought him for her and now they are broke up and she couldn't keep him. We seem to get a lot of dogs that way. Didn't mind taking him as we have lost 3 dogs this year, Burt, Rhonda and Ranger. They all had very good lives while they were here. Burt was a show up. Deb found him in the middle of the road when she came in one night and we could never find someone to claim him. Proof of this occured in Vegas. You know how there will be an Elvis impersonater on the street, asking you to take your picture with him? Kind of like a side show barker. Then when you do, you have to walk all the way through the casino for 200 blocks to the back to get your FREE picture. :(
Well this guy saw us coming down the street from a block away and I thought he was going to break into a full run trying to get to FurDog. He was hollering JERRY, JERRY, please let me take my picture with you!? Pleeeeeze Jerry!

I am preparing a power point presentation on disc golf to take to potential sponsors and advertisers for the NT. The PDGA sent me some really good information awhile back, (hope I saved it on my email). If anyone out there has something that you feel may be a helpful marketing tool, please contact me. 918-724-3121. Our first presentation will be this Friday with Arvest Bank in Bartlesville. You can also email Bobby Brown or contact us on www.thelodgeattaylorranch.com (http://www.thelodgeattaylorranch.com)

I am wanting to make up a music cd that we can play in The Clubhouse when we don't have live music or something else going on. I am looking for songs that get your blood pumping and make you want to go out and wrestle a grizzly bear. Or, maybe just some good feel good songs. Something that keeps the atmosphere flowing not a good song or two then a downer. If you know of some good songs that you would like to hear while at The Lodge, send your suggestions this way.

We don't have mini's every sunday but we generally have players every day. If you want to make sure there will be plenty of players just post up and I am sure there will be several golfers willing to oblige you with a game. ************************************ START ANNOUNCEMENT ***************************************
Hosts from TV Show Live . . . from Bartlesville
Will Be Interviewing Disc Golf Players and Club Members
Visiting the Lodge at Taylor Ranch - - March 7th and 8th, 2009
Co-hosts Sharon Hurst and Joel Rabin, from the TV variety show Live . . . from Bartlesville, will be conducting video interviews with Club members and Disc Golf players visiting the Lodge at Taylor Ranch this coming Saturday and Sunday, March 7th and 8th.
Sharon and Joel recently visited with Jim Taylor at his Lodge . . . along with a discourse from Jim on the sport of Disc Golf . . . and got a teeth-jarring Jeep tour of both tournament quality 18-hole courses that are being rapidly developed at the Lodge. Aside from having their brains flattened by hitting their heads on Jims bouncing Wrangler Jeep, they also left the Lodge with a great interest and desire to help promote the sport.
Sharon and Joel will conduct interviews and videotape action shots of everyone at work and at play during the weekend, with the intent of developing several segments for their upcoming TV Shows about the sport of Disc Golf, its players, upcoming national tournaments and the Lodge at Taylor Ranch. They will also offer their video interviews and TV segments to the Lodge for promotional, marketing and advertising purposes.
Live from Bartlesville is shown every Thursday evening from 7:00 to 7:30 pm on Tri-City TVs cable station 59, serving the Bartlesville, Dewey and Nowata area of northeast Oklahoma. Their TV show can also be seen on Tri-City TVs Internet site: www.tri-citytv.net. (http://www.tri-citytv.net.) All shows are available On Demand 24/7 at the site. Registering for site access is free - and be sure to log-in each time you go there.
The video interviews with various people on Saturday (a work day) and Sunday (a play day) will be relatively short and run about 1 to 2 minutes each. The interviews will cover a variety of topics that will be of interest to both the general public and Disc Golf fans. Sharon and Joel plan to ask those of you willing to participate to talk about two or three of the following topics (dont worry . . . no one will be asked to respond to all of these):
1. The history of the Disc Golf sport.
2. How and why did you first became involved in the sport?
3. What do you enjoy most about the sport?
4. Do you have some personal stories about your involvement in the sport? The funniest? The scariest? The most heart-warming?
5. What about the overall design ands special features of the Lodges two new 18-hole courses? And how about the experience of actually playing on them?
6. What do you think about Kevin McCoy, the designer of the Lodges two courses? And what about his upcoming wedding at the lodge next month?
7. What about the upcoming national Disc Golf tournament here at Jim Taylors Lodge on April 25th and 26th? Do you plan to participate or come to watch?
8. Have you been to Jim Taylors Lodge before? If yes, why? To play golf? What else?
9. What do you think about the Lodge facilities and all of the different activities that are offered here to families and individuals?

I would say any day at the lodge is a good day!
Smitty2004
Mar 22 2009, 03:34 PM
You are exactly right. There probably isn't a bad day to play at the lodge.
I do have a couple of ideas. I shared a third with Jim.
The first is on hole 17. Man that is a tough hole. I noticed a few things during the 2 days I spent at the Lodge. If you hit the island with a bee line drive you are going to skip off the back, which you should. You can skip it on to the green from the water. This happened from both the drop zone or the tee. If you hit the basket or the pole from the Drop or the tee, you are going into the water.
I don't think it would change the hole at all, but make it better if there was a ring of basketball sized rocks around the perimeter of the island. This would slow down and maybe stop some the roll offs, it would also stop the water skip shot, mainly from the drop zone.
The other idea that I thought would be pretty cool is if there were a couple of bigger flat topped rocks close to most of the tees. Give people a place to park the backside while you wait. There would then be no need to carry a stool.
Martin_Norris
Mar 23 2009, 01:02 PM
Smitty, you must be doing something wrong I have hit chain and basket and pole (all 3) on hole 17 several times and have not had the shots go off into the water.
Now I have never hit the top of the basket and I am sure that that would skip off into the water but that hole is the one I use as an equlizer hole to make up for the strokes I gain on the long holes.
my scoring average on that hole is 1 par and the rest are all birds even from the blue.
I would not mess with 17 it is too good as it is.

WOW!!! Great weekend at The Lodge. Great weather, Great tourney, Great bunch of guys. The only thing that didn't come off perfect was the TV at the clubhouse. Probably got damaged by the big hail storm and I didn't know it. I had them come in a couple of months ago and pre-wire before we put the ceiling in and everything worked perfect. Wouldn't you know it, didn't work this weekend. Can't get a service call till this thursday. Had plenty of room at the house though, and it was more comfortable seating too. Had many, many compliments on the course and progress so I proudly pass them on to the deserving TDSA and Tulsa players who truly deserve the credit for an amazing amount of support and volunteer labor. Looks like the fever is building and we should be over the top by NT. Are there some TDSA banners to hang in the clubhouse? I think we have finished sawing and making a mess inside so we can now proudly display banners, Twisted Flyer, TDSA, Innova, PDGA. Thanks TDSA, Joe the man Rotan, all the volunteers. And, Kevin, we are doing you proud back here man. Getting it twisted for the big day.:cool::cool:

as long as off the island is still OB I see nothing wrong with making disc recovery easier but the joy of the hole is that I can birdie it while others splash. :D

I love the course and love the island for some unknown reason it seems to love me back. :)

Mar 23 2009, 05:23 PM
Here's the scoop on the island. We have already discussed putting up a net to save some time in disc recovery. The rule will be, If it hits the net, it is wet. I just haven't gotten that done yet. I am trying to stay with an all natural theme. I want to use fish net since it is on the water. We discussed this at the last NT meeting and everyone was ok with it. Sorry I didn't have it up for this weekend but now even more have had a taste of the island. I just think that by putting up a net, it sure takes a lot of the intimidation away from the hole. I think that was the plan in the beginning. It is not a difficult shot, at all. But, my oh my how it does seem to intimidate. Kinda funny when you think about it. A lot of really good players seem to find themselves unable to get within 20 feet of the pole on what is basically a simple lay up shot. That's the beauty of the hole.
twoputtok
Mar 23 2009, 05:32 PM
How about a net that lays just under the water and out of sight but can be pulled up after the round. A base around the Island that the poles could be mounted to and the net to the poles. Then lift it up like a shrimp boat pulls up their nets.
While they may know the net is there, it is out of sight, it would still be a double circle 6 for me but at least I know I'd get it back aftewards. :p

Just knowing that there is a net would take away from the hole. And doing it for the NT, why, aren't these the best players in the world
Smitty2004
Mar 23 2009, 09:10 PM
I really think that a ring of rocks around the perimeter would make it a much better hole. It will keep many shots that catch a wheel and roll on the island, it will still punish bad shots. It would be much easier then any net, and it would still look great.
I could probably even get a couple of people to make a trip to carry them over the bridge and do the work. Oh, and play the course of course.
9524
Mar 23 2009, 09:40 PM
I think the island is fine the way it is. I have played it about 30 times and only missed it 3 times. I think a net for easier retrival would be nice but no rocks please!
Smitty2004
Mar 23 2009, 10:19 PM
I would bet big money that Ken Climo could't put 27 out of 30 on the island. I would let him throw 30 discs in a row and never leave the tee pad.
He would maybe have a pretty good chance at it from the white tee.
He could probably do it from the red.

Kevin did a great job designing this course and when people who never play tournaments there come from out of town and play one or two tournaments then think they have the right to redesign it. Thats crazy!
And as for Kenny tell him to gome and go up against the McClellans.
bravo
Mar 24 2009, 08:46 AM
rocks may prevent the hole from playing the way that kevin told me to play it.
he said the best shot for the hole is a skip off the water onto the island.
he threw his borrowed wasp down to the water ,skip, skip, skip ,splash.
i threw my firebird skip, safe.
if rocks were placed at waters edge it may save some overagressive shots from rolling shots from unfortunate shots from getting wet.
however the spread that that hole gives the course is why it could be the signature hole.
i did not play it well this weekend but have successfully navigated it twice in another tourny so think that the hole is designed to punish the bad shot but tempt you to run the ace or lay up approach and put.

Kevin did do a Killer job, that is for sure. I don't want to redesign the course at all. I think it is a very cool hole. I was just giving an idea that I had.
I will play it a few more times before the NT, and work and the skip shot.
I do think it would be very interesting to keep some stats on this hole at the NT.
1-Birdies
2-Pars
3-Circle 3's
4-4's
5-Circle 4's
6-Worse then 4
What type of shot and result?
Hyzer
Straight
Airball
Skip off water
Green and good
Green and skip off
Green and roll off
Helk maybe I will get a 12 pack of cold ones and sit on the hill with a clipboard during the NT and take some notes. :D
This net idea that is floating around, I think is very bad. I don't know how you can do it, and make it look good? I also don't know how you can do it, and make it safe. One "dumb" person gets stuck in the net, trying to fish out their disc and we could have a bigger problem.

OK! It took some serious arm twisting. I have found a volunteer to take my spot on the hill between holes 18 and 1 during the NT at the lodge. The sweet part, is that it will only cost me a 12 pack of cold brews. Since I know that Big Jim is going to want in on the action, I will boost it to a 30 pack. I just hope the two of them don't get to drunk to keep accurate stats on the hole.
What I really want to know is what percentage of the Pro field can land on the island from the long tee.
My main man Chris Tyler is up for the task. Between Chris, Jim and probably Rusco. We can maybe get some accurate stats for at least the first 3 groups that play the hole. :D

Nice work.
As for the Island Hole. It is just that... an Island. One could draw reference to the famed "hardest hole in disc golf". Hole #17 at Winthrop Gold, home of the only true Championship in disc golf, the USDGC.
Hole #17 at Winthrop is about the same size and shape. Bales are placed in front to prevent a skip off of the lawn. The Lodge has a real waters edge bank, either way a skip must be well planned and executed. If you clear the bales and go hard at the DISCatcher Pro, you pay the price of OB off the back. Same scenario with the Lodge. Island holes are touch and go but can be conquered. I watched Jay & Des throw a Orange Star Aviar on #17 at Winthrop and land approx. 25 out of 30. Practice will be key for #17.
Every year MANY Pros of all ratings have had game shifting moments on this hole. It's about RISK and REWARD, Planning, Practice and execution when it counts. I say leave the Island a true Island and rest assured you will most likely get your disc back before you tee again. The Island is a Lodge signature hole that does what the Lodge does, expands on and furthers disc golf traditions and challenges.

Nuff said, thanks Joe. The Island remains an Island. Jeremy will be retrieving discs after each round. For maximum assurance of getting your disc back, simply watch it down. Then you can direct him to the area more accurately to look for your disc. I think to have someone go in the frigid water after rounds is quite a courtesy. :D

It looks like we are getting the video stuff worked out pretty good. I have been watching birds in Bobby's back yard flutter around while he talked to me. We may have a trial run ready by next weekend.

on a side-note : for any Local or Area Players not attending the Duncan Lake HillClimber Open
.
first-of-all : I would heartily recommend that you take-on the Duncan Tourney Im pre-signed-up ; and Im going to Duncan over-the-years , its become a Great cant-miss Tournament and Gathering masterfully set-up and run by the likes of Johnny , Jose , and now Joe over a challenging layout of two Courses side-by-side with Camping -and- Camaraderie -and- All-The-Extras you would NOT be disappointed !
.
but if you cant make-it-to-Duncan that weekend ; you might consider rolling over to The Lodge on Saturday, March 27 the reason here is : helping along to Support The Sport on that day , Jim will be hosting a bus-load (about 20) of new enthusiasts eager to be introduced to this Recreation you can be sure that if there are any seasoned or regular Players out there as well ; it would further enhance the experience for these first-timers you might give Jim Taylor a call just a thought

Mar 15 2010, 01:39 PM
a side-note here that Bus-Group of new Players will re-schedule to a future date thats cool because whenever Jim Taylor has them set-up next , we call all take part in introducing eager-eyes-and-ears to this Sport

Its nice to see a Lodge thread up on top of the discussion board. I have noticed that there are not that many...if any, tournments up in pawhuska this next year. This has just boggled my mind that these beautiful courses have not been scheduled for any big tourneys. I say lets put the politics aside and schedule some tournaments at the lodge this year.

careful, asking for sanctioned tournaments around here is very taboo. ive had my wrists slapped so many times its starting to affect my driving accuracy and my putts.
I am also in agreement with you on THE LODGE. What a great place for any kind of tournament... ESPECIALLY doubles... that is going to be a BLAST. Dorries and Triska going to be competing as a team for the first time since last year's Okie Dubs! Looking forward to that.
