NOT a 150 class event (and hasn't been for over 10 years)

Joe: I'll be happy to add you to the staff, thanks so much!!! :)

The only way to sign up right now is to take the Father Dave McC-Note Challenge :D Full details are below. About 15 folks are already in, and around now is when a bunch more start sending in their McC-Notes toreserve their spots.

Regular registration will open sometime in the next month or so. If you are on my disc golf email list, you will get an email about it as soon as it opens. Club members current on their dues will also get a form in the mail. The timing will be about the same, but depending on the speed of the postal service, some members may get it up to a day before the email goes out.

If you aren't on the email list and would like to be, send me an email at [email protected] (always disc related stuff ;); never spam ).

See you at Waterloooooooooooo :D

Its Father Dave McC-Note Time :D

The way it works is this: send the Waterloo Club a check for $100 now. Your spot in the tournament is guaranteed. When fees for the different divisions are set, we will deduct from your $100:
your entry fee
ace pot
ring-of-fire
mulligans

All the money left goes directly to the charity. In 2006, there were 60 McC-Note Challengers (even though a few ended up cancelling, this was still well over half the field). This added over $2200 to the total charitable donation!

To clarify something that has come up occasionally: this money saves your spot, not a spot. Once the tournament fills up and there is a waitlist, if you have to cancel you cant just give your spot to someone else. As with any cancellation, the spot goes to the next person on the waitlist. If you do have to cancel, you will receive a refund of everything except what would have gone to the charity (and that money will still be added to the donation).

Dont wait too long and miss out on this wonderful event. Send in your money now and you wont have to worry about it filling up without you.

Send your check or money order, payable to WDGC, to:
WDGC
PO Box 33531
Austin, TX 78764

Thanks!!! :D

Richard & Stimpy & I are considering whippin' up a batch of home brew for the tournament. It will be titled "PXR" (past exalted rulers) since it will be brewed by three past presidents of the HFDS. I am just beginning to home brew. Stimpy is a freaking "how to home brew" book. An old pro, I tell ya. This should be interesting. :) Gordon, let me know if there will be some kind of problem with this. I know the City of Austin can be difficult. If not, you could put a little donation jar near the tap. :)

Beer sold - not allowed :(

I'll get in touch about possible options. I'm sure there will be plenty of folks there happy to drink some good home brew. Maybe I'll even try a sip (in between my shots of Jack Daniels ;) )

Yes, X-tier; you'll just have to get your ratings elsewhere. Most of the feedback last year was in favor of continuing the mulligans.

The tournament flyer is below (and as an attached file), registration is now open. There are only about 50 spots still available (the others have been reserved by Father Dave McC-Note Challengers), so if you want to play, mail in your entry form right away. This tournament usually fills up in 5-10 days.

You can still sign up as a Father Dave McC-Note Challenger even though registration is now open. You wont receive the benefit of a spot saved but you will still be recognized as a McC-Noter and will get one of our McC-Note goodies in your players package, plus youll be helping out a great charity.

Postmark determines date of entry

You can also enter in person at any club event (if spots still available), like our random draw doubles mini next Thursday at Zilker.

Please dont try to enter by handing your form/check to a club board member or someone else to give to me, that will just delay your entry. Mailing in your entry is the best way. Giving it to me in person doesnt get your entry in any sooner that having a postmark from the same day.

Sorry, but registration is not available through titledisc for this tournament.

A couple of other notes about some things that are different this year:

1) We will be having 2 separate Silent Auctions instead of one big auction. Well have one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Each morning, well put out a bunch of items. After the round is over on Saturday and folks have had a chance to get back to the deck and refresh themselves, well close out that days auction, collect the funds, and you can take your stuff. Well do the same thing on Sunday, with closing it out right before awards.

2) Instead of the usual doubles on Friday, well be playing Flashback Singles. Well play an object course (marked trees, lightpoles, etc) using frisbees, the way the tournament used to be played 30 years ago. We plan on having some great commemorative Ultrastars that players will receive just for signing up for the Flashback Singles. You can use that disc and other frisbees, but no golf discs will be allowed.

Below are the folks already signed up as Father Dave McC-Note Challengers. If you think you are supposed to be on this list but dont see your name, contact me right away.

****, now I have to learn to spell in leiu?

Seriously, I don't get this? Waterloo doubles is almost as classic as the tourney itself. Doubles allows many current players who didn't make it in to play the course and seems to attract old timers who only throw once a year, but have no interest in playing the two day event. I doubt there will be a lot of interest amongst those registered to play. Those predate me and I'm old.

Do we have to wrap our horse's reigns around a tie-dyed rail at check-in to enter this event? :p

edit. nevermind, I see this event is open to everyone and will probably be well attended.

Gotta agree with James on this one. Waterloo is already one of the hardest tournaments to get into and the only other chance players have to play the course is Friday Doubles. The baskets are only at the park 3 days a year, we should use them when we have them.

I'm going to miss playing doubles too! :( Like many folks, it is my one time of year to play the course too (and I can't throw a frisbee well at all - hoo boy, it could be an ugly sight if I try to play it).

I knew there would be people not happy with this (and others warned me of this as well), but I knew there would also be those who would really like it. It will be unique and fun.

However, it will just be this once, in celebration of the 30th year. We'll go back to the usual doubles next year.

It is very likely full, or at least very close. Best thing to do is still mail the entry. I won't cash the check until they player is confirmed. If it is full, then onto the waitlist they go (as of the date of postmark).

I'm glad that there will be plenty of old players. It would be interesting to see those statistical trends at this tourney. Is there an effort to find anyone who played thirty years ago? Those players sould have special gear made for them and we can publish an article/pictures about the classic. Does anyone have pictures from the "way-back", way-back?

I know it's a one time thing in honor of the 30th and it's not up for debate, but I agree that people who don't get in or can't play the whole weekend look forward to doubles because this is, without a doubt, the most fun course in Austin and it's some peoples' only chance to play it. Fortunately, I'll get to play four rounds on it, but an extra one would be sweet.

The old object course can be played with a frisbee any time of the year, can't it?

harry
Sep 24 2007, 04:26 PM
I don't see why it couldn't be played at any time, but it is only for us to debate :( Friday doubles to me is as much Waterloo as the Saturday/Sunday rounds, the rain, dinner with old friends at the Texas Chili Parlor and watching the homeless duck from my errant throws  :D

Hi Yall,

Sorry, but this should have gone out last Friday, or over the weekend, or earlier today, but Im so far behind on tournament stuff that it aint even funny.

Waterloo is Full!

I have sent out most of the confirmations and hope to get to the rest today or tomorrow. If you have entered but not gotten a confirmation by the end of tomorrow, please contact me and let me know.

Now that the tournament is full, we will start a waitlist. If someone withdraws, we will contact the next person on the waitlist.

The best ways are to send me a PM through the PDGA DISCussion Board, send me an email at [email protected] or call me at home (512) 858-0119 (even in Austin you usually need the area code as I live in Dripping Springs and most phone companies consider that "long distance" - sheesh )

I just need your name and contact info (email and/or phone number). It can help to know your division (for when we make up scorecards), but that won't affect whether or not you get in. We don't have set numbers of people in a division, so... for example: it won't help to be willing to play pro when you normally play advanced. If there is a spot for you, we'll get you in regardless of your division.

If you clear the waitlist before the tournament gets here, I'll contact you about it. Otherwise, the only thing you have to do is be there Saturday morning at tourney HQ when check-in closes at 8:30 am. Tournament HQ is at the wooden deck near Trinity & E. 13th Street. If anyone drops out at the last minute or hasn't checked in, we'll drop them and fill their spot with someone from the waitlist.

If you are on the waitlist, don't despair. Even if you are far down on the list, there is always hope. At least twice in the last few years, everyone on the list who chose to show up Saturday morning actually made it in.

Thanks!

Hi Yall,

Waterloo is less than four weeks away, and Im afraid that we are way behind in getting sponsors for the event. It is our 30th Anniversary, and we want it to be a fantastic tournament, but we need a lot of help to do it. If you can sponsor this years Waterloo, or know someone who can (or might), wed really appreciate it.

Thank you very much to the folks who have already sent stuff in or have committed to: Keith Johnson, Stimpy Says Waterloooooo, HFDS, Julie Tayloe, Fishead Tim, Dr. Steve Loeschen Family Medicine, Susan Macaluso 2Dye4U, Harry "Searcher" Kalthoff, Dillo's Leap Productions, Play It Again Sports, Kirk Lavallee, DiscNation, Innova, Discraft

For a sponsorship of $200 or more: your logo or name on the back of the official tournament shirt, on the club web site, plus on a tee-box sign. This sign will be seen by all of the competitors each time that they play the course. Your name will also be added to the Sponsor List that will be displayed at the course and distributed to the players, the general public, and the media.

For a sponsorship of $100 - $199: your name on a tee-box sign, web site, and Sponsor List.

For a sponsorship of up to $99: your name on the web site and Sponsor List.

Thanks to the support of our great sponsors, we have donated more than $48,000 in cash and supplies to RMH and Austin Parks Foundation over the last eight years. The goal for 2007 is to raise $10,000. Wont you please help by being a sponsor of this wonderful tournament? Sponsorship can be in the form of cash, merchandise, or a combination of the two.

Please send all sponsorship to Waterloo Disc Golf Club, PO Box 33531 Austin, TX, 78764 (checks payable to WDGC). If you wish, you can make your check payable directly to Austin Ronald McDonald House in order to get the tax benefits of a charitable donation.

Thank you for your support!

flash back singles 10
regular doubles 34

I say lets do both and if no ace is hit during regualr doubles we can give the ace pot to Ronald House.

Come on Gordon what you say????

I agree with Mccaine

Seriously, I don't get this? Waterloo doubles is almost as classic as the tourney itself. Doubles allows many current players who didn't make it in to play the course and seems to attract old timers who only throw once a year, but have no interest in playing the two day event. I doubt there will be a lot of interest amongst those registered to play. Those predate me and I'm old.

That has been established way back up thread!
The club decided to do the object and ultra stars for the 30th only. They already have the ultra stars and baskets do not have to go out and in on Friday. Gordo has apologized about the doubles alredy. :p
Most people enjoy the doubles cause they get to play on the same course as for the weekend and a lot of people play that don't play the tourney. Plus I usually get to play with Sheldon.
I don't plan on playing the object singles but organize a bunch of younguns to put out and getting in the baskets and I'll definately play doubles. :D

Oh... and if any of our numerous adv. grand masters would like to (and are eligible to) play adv. senior grand master, I will create that division with 3. Gary Barron would like to play it, but it needs two more players.

I haven't been ignoring the talk about the Friday Flashback Singles, I just haven't had time to reply to all of it.

As I said originally, I knew some folks would not be happy with this. I'm going to miss playing doubles too, it is also my one chance to play Waterloo. But this is a one-time thing in celebration of the 30th Anniversary. I think it will be fun, challenging, and unique. We'll be back to the regular doubles next year.

I'm sure that there are more than 34 who would rather play regular doubles, but I'm also sure there are more than 10 who are looking forward to the old singles. By the way, Thanks Steven for putting up the poll, that was really cool to see the feedback.

Sorry, but we will not be playing regular doubles at the same time as the singles. The only way we'll have any baskets out on Friday is if we really need an "object" to hit and there isn't a tree, pole, or something around that will work.

And I can't post a map of what the singles holes will look like as I'm not sure yet what they will be. We'll try to replicate as many of the original holes as we can.

For those folks that aren't in the singles, and really want a chance to play the regular course with baskets, there are the usual lunch breaks on Saturday & Sunday when the players will be off the course. If we have any juniors, they will be playing the course then, but that is usually only a card or two. Ring-of-Fire and the Tayloe Toe Toss might affect a few of the holes, but not many.

Please take this one-time change in the spirit in which it is intended; something fun and something in honor of the way Waterloo used to be.

Thanks!
Gordo

I don't see why it couldn't be played at any time, but it is only for us to debate :( Friday doubles to me is as much Waterloo as the Saturday/Sunday rounds, the rain, dinner with old friends at the Texas Chili Parlor and watching the homeless duck from my errant throws  :D

I'm looking forward to Friday night at the Texas Chili Parlor as much as anything. It's the one time during the weekend THAT I know I'll get to sit and enjoy dinner and some brews and have some fun with my disc golf family who I rarely get to see anymore. one...two..three... FATHER DAAAAVE!!

So what is the rule as far as the disc for the Flashback Singles? Any frisbee, no bevelled edge discs? Size? Weight? I may have to dig mine out of the closet. :) Man, I am so looking forward to Waterloooooo. I'm off Thursday, Friday and Monday so I can relax and have some fun. What's up, HARRY!!

Easiest way to tell what kind of disc you can use, is to say, Pre-1982.

No beveled edge, but that doesn't mean you can bring a piranha or a birdie or a gopher or a polecat.

PRE-1982.

Exactly my point. :) Those whirlwind weekends of driving up friday evening, playing four rounds, driving back
