The B-tier that pays like an A-tier......
Ok, turned in the paperwork yesterday on this years event.
Have talked with one possible Asst TD. Hopefully this one comes though, HOWEVER I always need help. It takes everything I got to keep the tournament on time with 200 players.
Last year having the players fill out the cards work out so good we will be doing it again this year. It just takes too long to organize 200 cards with not enough help.
2006 was the 1st time I did not have to add money to Guarantee the $1000 Ace Pot.
So this year lets do more :D (TBA)
I am working on entry fees and payouts % right now. Looks like the PDGA is going to force me to change the way I have done things in the past.
however most things will not change.....
Basket for 1st place winner. (all am's)
Glass Trophies for 1st place in each division (that has someone signed up by August 31st)
$1000 (or more) guaranteed ace pot.
I am going to say this right now.
1st place pro is GUARANTEED $1000 CASH.....................
Things worked out pretty good last year. I have lots of cash on hand and have not even worked on this years sponsors.

can you promise us another monsoon for the final rounds this year? oooohhh and can we please have 5 feet of water on 1/4 of Porter at the start of sundays round again?
seriously though, while it made for tough conditions and tough decisions for the TD... that tournament will always stand out in a good way because of it

Sorry, we are due for a good weather weekend this year. Only one time before have I seen that much water on either course. Luckly both creeks drain quickly so by the time the rounds started, it was not as hard to get around. (just very muddy)
Don't forget, the winner of the open division, Eric "Sprout" McCabe, tied the course record at Jimmy Porter on Sunday morninig and was only 1 stroke off the course record on Greenbelt on Sunday afternoon. Those 2 rounds gave him the 1st place cash of $1015 :Dh

$1000 is a lot of money. It was great they personally donated $500 last year though. I don't think they are going to be able to do that again this year unless everyone goes to Play It Again Sports in Carrollton and buy discs, then say, "Hey, thanks for sponsoring the Carrollton Open last year, are you going to sponsor BIG again this year??" :D

Ok, I need someone to step up and help take some workload off my shoulders.
Again, I have taken on to much and need to take a step back and disc golf is going on the backburner
The tournament will still go on, but to make it bigger and better, someone is going to have to step up and take some of the leadership role.
All I want is this tournament to still be run for the players. That means that all income from the tournament goes back to the players in one form or another.
Please send me an email or PM if you are willing to step it up and keep the old time Carrollton tradition.
(I will either stay as TD or will give up that roll if someone has the same vision as I always have, I still want to run/help run the tournament, I just need some weight lifted off my shoulders)

What I am going to need help on is getting the course back in shape (ie tee signs and making sure all the holes are fixed in the baskets)
Help getting sponsorship.

As far as my store, it is looking pretty good on having enough managers in place by then. But things could change again by then.

Bryan as always you can count on me. If you need it, I will not play, but TD or assist. You know between rounds I will be there to help as much as I can, assuming I play. I would prefer to not TD because I believe a tournament should be run by the locals, as much as is possible. If you have to work I will step in to cover though.
I guess I am going to ask for someone to loan me a bed for this event now. I believe I can pay my entry this year ;)

For those that have email or asked, you must pay to pre-register, I can't just take names and you pay later.
What your entry fee covers
82 chances of wining part of the $1,500 ace pot
20% or better chance of winning a $50+ CTP in the final round
players package for all Am's, players package for all Pro's who pre register
A chance at cashing in one of the best payout tournaments left in the country.
BTW, this year the payout will be going by the PDGA recommended payout sheet. (not my choice)
However, in Carrollton tradition, the payout will be better than entry fees in all divisions. (note, most added cash is put in the Open Men division)

Also, in the past, no woman has left the Carrollton Open empty handed.
Pizza God
Aug 31 2007, 04:39 AM
Last year the open women paid $60 each, 2x 60 = 120 - $10 x2 for PDGA, ace pot, charity is $100 paid out
$155 for 1st
$95 for 2nd
You do the math
Master women
3 x $50
$150
- $30 for fees
$120
paid out
1st $100
2nd $60
3rd $50
Again, you do the math. Plus a glass trophy for 1st place.
1 Am woman
$30 - $10 fees
$20
Won $24 in discs, (think got a trophy worth way over $20)
plus got a players package worth $11 and might have been worth $26 if she signed up before the 31st of August.
Rec Women
4X$20
- $40 for players fees
= $40 for payout
all got $11 players package ($26 for any signed up by the 31st)
payout
$15
$15
$9
$9
$48 plus a trophy.
You figure out how much I lost on having women at the tournament.

there are a few nice places in Lewisville at 121 and 35
there are also several in Addison that are not that far. Just stay away from Super 8
You will get the best prices on Orbits or Priceline web sites. When I have gotten group pricing, people got better rates online than I was able to get them, so I stopped trying.

baskets are in at Porter and b and c are in at Greenbelt.
After 1 hour, we still could not find the sleeve for the A hole.
it is covered by 4 inch sprinkler valve cover. It is overgrown and we could not find it. I even went home and got my 30 year old medal detector and looked for another 30 min before I headed to work.
Please, if you are in the area, see if you can find it, I always have a hard time finding that one every year.

you called me before I woke up. I called you when I was out on the course.
I had problems finding all the sleeves. With all this rain we have had this year, all the sleeves were grown over.
it is the a hole between 12/13 that I was unable to find. I spent all my time looking for that and didn't have time to dig the hole for 11 or for the sign on 4

I don't know of any online pics or anything. For a quick description or comparison with something that your familiar with I'd say they are similar to the first 4 or 5 holes and all the temp holes at Crowley. I see you played there so that's close. These two may be a bit shorter overall though. Not sure what the temp holes are like, haven't ever played them.
There should be others who play there more that can much more detail. And with two courses and a current players list of 90 then I'd think there would be plenty of room for you to sign up!!! :D

That's an interesting comparison...I don't think you can use Crowley in the same sentence as either Carrollton course unless you're talking about a mix of blue and white tees.
Both courses are pretty short; almost all holes are within 340' and reachable. Most are fairly open, with just maybe key trees. Most also have a creek in play to the left or right. Most have a righty backhand hyzer route to the pin. Most are fairly flat, but there are a couple of downhill holes.
The baskets spit like a dirty pornstar...old Mach 2's that you want to throw a soft, slow putter at.
All of the holes play fairly easily when playing blind. Just stay out of the creek and you should do well!

95% are reachable with a RHBH Hyzer. If you can throw a hyzer within 30 feet of 95% of the basket and are putting well, you can win this event without ever seeing the courses.

Rules on the course records.
If you set, not tie, the course record at the end of the tournament, the bounty is yours. If someone beats your record, they get the bounty. If two players tie for the new course record, even if they do it in different rounds, they will split that course bounty.
for setting course records for both courses, you have to set the record for both courses during the tournament, if you set the course record and someone beats you the next round, sorry. If they tie you, that course bounty is split, but you get still get the extra 50.

Casual play is easier than tournament play no doubt. After a 3 on hole 6 I birdied the next 12, and during that stretch I felt like I was in a tournament, knowing that I felt that way and still finished out birding holes 7 through 18, I feel that when I play a tournament I play better than in a casual round. SOME COME ON PORTER AND GREENBELT !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back in the day (late 90's, early 00's) if you shot 4 rounds of -8 (-32) you would finish in the top 3. Emac almost did it in one day. LOL.

If you had your program I handed you, it says the 3rd round starts at 9am at the course you played in the 2nd round.
Yes the cards will be at your course. Jerry Power will be starting Jimmy Porter and collecting all 22 cards after the round. I will be at Greenbelt again and start that round.
2nd round will try to start at 1pm if possible, It depends on how fast the first round goes, I guarantee the last card in will get 1 hour minimum for lunch.

Every year I spend Monday morning cleaning up the courses and pulling the extra baskets out.
THANKS go to all the players this weekend, that was the least amount of trash I have ever picked up.
for those that don't know
the Giggler tied the course record at Jimmy Porter Sunday morning
so here is how the course bounties went
Greenbelts new course record
48 Eric McCabe
$200 bounty paid
Jimmy Porter new course record
47 Eric McCabe and Donald Elsworth
split the $150 bounty
Then I had stated I would add another $150 if one person set both course records.
that bonus was added to eric mccabe's total
The Giggler $75
Sprout $425
