On July 12, 2008 the City of Crowley will be hosting their Celebration of Freedom event at Bicentennial Park. There will be lots of food vendors, kids rides, wrestling matches, bands playing all day, and of course a disc golf tournament. The city has also spent over $10,000.00 for the fireworks display for that night. They guarantee that it will be the best Fireworks dispaly in Tarrant County.
Our regularly scheduled Saturday mini will be moved back to 1:00 p.m. due to me having to be in the parade. The format for this mini will be flip doubles. We will play red, white and blue tees. The City of Crowley is going to offer $150.00 added cash for this event. The top three teams will get some of this cash. There will be an $8.00 entry fee as usual and we will be playing for the ace pot as well.

Thanks to those that came out to this years Halloween mini. As usual, there was alot of seran wrap around the trees and the baskets, one of the holes had a completely lit fairway, some baskets were moved, one basket was swinging, and this year we added the bridge hole in which several people took a sroke limit 10 on the hole. The mineral oil trick was attempted, but failed....hahaha maybe yext year. Not to mention, all players played with only 1 disc.
Here are the results from the mini.

Disc golf course upgrades on way

Disc golfers will soon see major improvements to the course at Bicentennial Park.
Brice Longerbone, chairman of the Crowley parks and recreation board, told city council members at a meeting Thursday that he is trying to bring world-class disc golfers to Crowley by expanding the number of holes at the course.
He said adding seven more holes to the now 20-hole course would allow for bigger tournaments.
Longerbone estimated the installation of concrete tee pads, platinum tee signs, an information board, basket locks, direct-hit flags and wooden posts, to mention a few, would cost the city $24,061.
Because he only had one estimate for many of the projects and because discussion of the disc golf course occurred during the workshop session, council members asked him to obtain more estimates to present at the next meeting, where his proposal will be on the agenda.
As soon as council members approve Longerbones budget for an improved disc golf course, he and City Manager Truitt Gilbreath will work together on the purchasing process, Gilbreath said.
Longerbone said a majority of the budgeted funds will be used for the installation of concrete tee pads.
He said he hopes to conduct two Professional Disc Golf Association tournaments a year and maybe as many as four tournaments.
The big one we hold every year is at the end of June, called the Play It Again Sports Open. That is our biggest tournament, and weve held it a few years now, he said.
The first year we had 130 players from six or seven states, and the second year we had 160 players from six or seven states, he said. We want to improve the course. People already like the course, and they already want to come back, so we want to treat them right. As we continue to grow, more and more people will be coming.
Council members were concerned that one of the course baskets is not on city property.
Longerbone said he spoke with the owner of the land, who told Longerbone he didnt have a problem with disc golfers walking on it, but council members told Longerbone he would need to obtain some type of contractual agreement for use of non-city property to continue.

Saturday February 21, 2009...Bicentennial Park, Crowley Texas. This event will be a Southern National Qualifier.
The charities that we are giving too will be The Crowley House of Hope and The Friends of the Crowley Library, both of which do great things for our community. We were able to raise $700.00 last year and this year we aim to raise $1000.00.
You can only sign up through me. The cost will be $25.00 entry fee + $5.00 optional ace pot. All divisions will be offered. This is a charity event so, no money or prizes will be paid out. The winner of each division will receive a custom trophy made by yours truly. The first 50 people that sign up will receive a long sleeve t-shirt, a disc and a mini, all with the official Ice Bowl 2009 stamp.
We will play one round of 24 holes.(probably mixed tees). Eat some lunch and then play the 5 for 5. It is a game where I will set up 5 baskets in a X formation and each basket will have its own CTP. Last year each CTP was worth at least $100.00 and I would expect the same this year. It will be $5.00 for 5 throws. You can pay as much as you want. All money donated will go to charity. After that we will play flip doubles at $5.00 a man, winner takes all.
Hope you can make it. Tell your friends.

Special Request: Please keep an eye out for two stolen baskets, they were stolen from the Weatherford DGC on Saturday, June 20th around 10pm.
The descriptions are as follows, both are DGA Mach III's. The first one is the practice basket with the DGA logo on the nuber plate and various stickers on the pole inside the chain assembly. The second is Hole 18's basket with the number 18 in bright red on the number plate.

Jun 22 2009, 08:16 PM
As many of you know, last Saturday, June 20th, two baskets were stolen from Weatherford DGC.
At this time we only have 174.00 in our course fund due to the recent transfer of over two thousand dollars for cement teeboxes. We cannot afford the replacement costs at this time so instead of the normal mini on Saturday, July 4th, we will be running a fundraising mini.
This will be a singles event with the ace pot in effect, along with CTP's. We will try to have CTP's for all eighteen holes if possible, depending on sponsorship. I will tell you, we have a few autographed discs from Avery, Barry, etc.
It won't all be plastic either as we should have some nice swag throw in as well. The entry will be very reasonable although we haven't finalized that just yet.
The cement teeboxes should be in the ground by the end of July and we would like very much to have these two baskets replaced by that same time but we really need the disc golf community to come together and help us out this time.
I can't thank everyone enough for the early show of support and I hope everyone can make it to this event.
Entry fees and times will be announced soon.
Nascar Dave / Weatherford DGC

Tentatively we are looking at a 4pm start time so as not to conflict with other local minis.
Also, we are looking at an entry fee of 20.00 for now but may lower it before the event.
There will be a max of two CTP's paid per person so as to spread the wealth around.
However if you hit three or four, you will have your choice of prizes.

Went out there last Saturday with an out-of-town guest and his son. I know the course isn't the easiest to navigate, but I remembered from the only time I played it before that there was a map by the first tee - sorry to see that it is gone.
The tee boxes are nice, but it would be nicer yet to have some indication from the basket the general direction of the next set of tees, and what color the tee box is. There are a few holes where it is confusing where the next hole is (#3 - I couldn't see the basket very easily, and I threw to the one across the creek, #19 or 20), but I admit that was due to my unfamiliarity with the course.
The design of the course is, for the most part, very nice, but the lack of tee signs (which of course, discourages anybody new from playing unless they can hook up with a friendly local, and even then they need a good memory to play again), and the tall grass in the back keep it from being the championship course it can be.
I do want to thank you for all the work and effort that I can see has been put into the course (I like the donated tee boxes with the donor's name in the corner), and I want to thank the donor of #13 tee for helping us find an errant disc. Long after we gave up on it, he kept on lookin' and he found it and brought it back to us! Very nice guy and good ambassador for the course and the sport! Thanks again!
