no doubt. who would have thought we would fill 7 weeks early. next year it might be earlwoodish

Not I, that's for sure. I'd like to point out that as far as I could figure, the first 14 people on the wait list were all at most two days after it filled.

Unfortunately, for at least three of the names on that list, if we don't know whether we're in by Friday afternoon it isn't going to matter. And that doesn't seem too likely.

Glad Azelia is not today, need 3 days to recover from all the terrain walk. Maybe next year Ill just go watch real players throw hole 14. That must have been awsome. boy i'm getting pumped for next weekend. I'm considering going down this wednesday to practice during the late morning and early afternoon if anyone would want to meet me out there as long as i can make it. also, does anyone have any idea how long it takes to get there from raleigh?

castle hayne exit is 414. so with this being said once you are off 440 beltline and on just 40 it is about and hour and forty-five minutes to the course going 75 or 80. i can pretty much get to 95 from here in an hour and 15 miutes flat the another 30 minutes to get into the city itself. you understand i have this drive wired seeing how i have to drive to so many events. either way it is just shy of 2 hours to get to hole 1 and be stretching.

to put into prespective i do not drive obnoxtiously fast (no more than 9 over) i pulled out of the course in chapel hill last night at 6:07 and i was in my drive way (in town and 15 minutes farther than castle hayne) at 8:10

Apr 09 2007, 04:53 PM

I don't know what's wrong with my copy, but it does not auto total. I will try to download a fresh copy.

Thanks for checking in,

scores are up, however, Schweb did not shoot a 1228 rated final round. He and JJ tied as noted.

The weather was INSANE today. There were certain shots that were impossible in that wind.

That's pretty funny, Walt. I have to laugh....Wish you had been here. You would have felt right at home, with all the rain and stuff.

To a certain extent that is true, but I prefer to think that the "Castle" extracted its revenge on those who thought they could conquer it.

On Saturday the Castle allowed all to enjoy something that rarely happens...ideal conditions. Then, just when you thought everything would be ok, like a freight-train through your uterus it systematically and unmercifully pounded the living snot out of the players with perhaps the toughest test that many will ever face. Those who fought bravely were rewarded with a sunny and beautiul 4th round...Unfortunately, many succumbed and were thereby sacrificed to the Disc Golf Gods...so be it.

As for my predictions....

1. "56, as the record, will stand (sorry)" - Wrong! 54 and 55
2. "Someone will shoot all 4 rounds sub-60!" Wrong again! But very pleased...
3. "The Top Pro Card on Round 4 will contain at least one former 'King of the Castle' " Correct (2 to be exact)
4. "No one will be able to Eagle Hole 8, though some will be close..." Correct but, How about a double-eagle on 12
5. "Someone will Win the Ace Pool for the First Time." Guess we'll have to keep using that money to make the course harder...
6. "The lowest 72 hole score record (233 - Bard "07) will be broken by one stroke (232)" - Need I say more...
7. "Someone will make a "12" on Hole 12" - No, but three 9's on the same card will do.

Thanks to all the club members and volunteers who made everything run so smoothly during this challenging tournament. Thanks to all the players for coming out and doing their best for a sport that they truly love.

Just wanted to thank everyone who help put this tourney together! I had a blast (even in the monsoon!) It was my first time playing the course and I loved it! It was very cool for me to get my first win at this tourney after hearing the legendary horror stories of "The Payne"! Also wanted to say thanks to the DG community! Being able to be around good golfers, good competition and good people who treat you like a friend is why I love the game and is why I'll be playing this game for a long time!

Quick comparison: If any of you have seen the movie 300, the first battle sequence when the spartans are making a wall with their shields and taking on a barrage of attacks from the persians.......that is literally how it was walking 14's fairway, except I was leaning into my umbrella taking on a barrage of wind and rain! Opinions on the ratings?

My thoughts:

I feel like I played around 990 golf (which for me means I played well but still left a few out there here and there) - and that is what I averaged.

However, I felt my Sunday rounds were low in the ratings. I also felt that Hofmann's 54 is WAAAAAAAAAY better than 1040.

A 1040 round happens every tournament every weekend. 54 doesn't happen every weekend on the course, or actually, ever.

I still just don't understand how the rating for his amazing round is what Kenny and Barry should average out there - there is no freakin way!

Although i now live here and am part of the club, so get to play at the Castle often, when a tourney comes around, it really makes you work.
This was my first Azalea, and one of the most funtimes i have had in the rain, wind, and playing disc golf. i have played a couple tournies in the rain before, but this one made you rethink your shots and strategies, and then rethink them a couple more times before shooting. A great wekend, Thanks BOZ for doing a great job, as well to everyone else for helping him out...all those out of towners helping run the thing smoothly! This course needs more sanctioned tournaments to keep her happy
Now if I could just sawzall the Third place trophy in half, it would be complete!

Thanks again everyone involved.

I got the trophy because Ashley refused to take it, which was very nice of him. That'd be cool if he got one too.

Tyson, you shouldn't have been skurred to feel the Payne.

Also, I'd like to thank everyone involved for a great tournament. I feel like a blew it there in the last round, but really Jason played very solid all weekend especially with that 66, so he definitely deserved it. Congrats on the win Snapp, hopefully I'll see you in Advanced soon, ya bagger!

As usual, the players lost quite a few discs this weekend. However, our crew of dedicated course custodians have fished out some plastic and in the tradition of high quality, the NHDC has found some lost discs.

Here is the list, and if you are going to be at tournament soon, perhaps one of our touring club members can return them for you.

Light Blue Star Sidewinder......Jeremy Bond
White Discraft Buzz-D........Whit Baker
White Roc (Disc Golf Rocks Stamp).....Sheffy
Yellow/Green Champion Leopard.......Hofmann
White Star T-Rex.....CuTT
Yellow MRV.......Larry Whitson
Blue Star Sidewinder.....Ray Ray (James Melton?)

That is the one disc that I am looking to add to the bag.
What was the discussion in it? Any major differences from the Champ Leopard?

tyson99duke
Apr 20 2007, 11:14 AM
My Champion one is too flippy this one flies straight with a bit of hyzer and is very predictable. I feel that Star plastic is more stable of the two. I really like the Star TeeBirds opposed to Champions as well because they too are less flippy and have a very predictable line.

Now if I could get my mid range squared away...I also have to say that I have been using the Star Aviar Driver from the Tarheel Tournament (I call it the Anti Tarheel) as an approach disc (125-50') and have had much success.

bgwvdave
Apr 20 2007, 11:22 AM
Joe,
the leopard is a great disc! it is basically a long roc. Tyson is correct the Star Leopard is a little more stable than the champion ( i actually politley disaggree with the assesment that the start t-bird is more stable than the chamion i think my experience is the opposite and also for me the saem applies to fire birds. my star t-birds and firebirds are not as stable as my champ's) but both the champ and star leopards are great fairway drivers. if you need something you can throw with a little hyser and pop and fly straight they are where it is at. on courses like kinston i throw the leopard alot!! it also is a very good turnover disc. throw it flat on say a hole like 2 and watch it do it's thing.
