The first year the weather was not bad, it was the wind on the lake holes that was bad. Thats the only one I have played in, but I do plan on playing this year. Maybe I can bring good weather

MTL21676
Jan 03 2007, 05:28 PM
Well here's the weather history (and other tidbits)

1st - Windy as crap
2nd - 4th round canceled due to ice storm - Many golfers never made it to Raleigh due to weather (Aaron Saft was pulled over for speeding and Bert Williams was pulled over for speeding as well and almost arrested when the officer thought he was running from him)
3rd - 4th round shorted to just short tees due to an ice storm - the late Robert Wynne has a seizure during the players meeting
4th - high winds and tempertures belowing freezing. One of the FriZZak;s best friends was nearly killed in an auto accident the day before the tournament
5th - rain all day Saturday, 30 - 40 MPH winds Sunday - Bob Weston flips and rolls his car on the way.

Some crazy stuff has happened at this tournament. Hopefully, everything will be better this year and we can all enjoy a great course and a great event.

played buckhorn, awesome course, didnt understand 16 long though, whats the wcp from the longs?

Plankeye
Jan 03 2007, 08:40 PM
16 long is pretty much a hairpin turn with a mando. There is a yellow spot that is roped off behind the short pad for safety(casual relief).

The only time I have heard of people taking a 2 on the hole was before they put a mando on the hole or if they were lucky to hit a long upshot or such.

16 long is not a good tee shot at all. The shorts is one of the best holes at any point on the course.

WCP is just over 54. The course record is 48.

I remember last year's debacle. After about 9 holes, Schweb turns to MiTTenZZ who's on the card behind us and says "You're brother's having some troubles" Four holes later, he says to him, "He's done" One hole later, the button pops off my pants while I'm whizzing. I finished the last five holes holding my pants up. Rating: 846. No offense, but I'm kinda glad I'm not making this trip this year.

Classic buckhorn open story.

my buckhorn stories- i played the tourney the first year when we had huge wind but no real precipitation. it was darn near physically impossible for a lefty to throw a shot on the first of the lake holes that would land in bounds- i saw greg maday actually drop his disc in the water right next to the tee for his tee shot- that way he could go to the drop zone without losing a disc.

later in the same event a guy in my group (again, this was an open player) actually lost ALL of his discs in the lake. he was ready to go home at that point but we loaned him a few to complete the round.

funny to think that that was the year the event had GOOD weather, relatively speaking.

do maday and butcher still play at all?

Stories of Buckhorn NOT limited to just open stories. I have played this tourney last 4 years in advanced division. Last year had to be the worst for me. Wet, cold, and just down right miserable. Prime example, I drove hole 9 to about 40 ft left of basket, near water but not in. I putted TRYING to lay up, only to watch disc rise and go above basket traveling 60,yes, 60 ft into the lake. I carded a lovely double. I LOVE Buckhorn!! C ya soon. :p Rruuff!!

It's old, and had special meaning to me. I'm sure it has my PDGA# on it, but not my current phone number...which BTW is 336-512-1933. It could already be gone depending on when you splashed. I saw 2 guys with weighters on out there last Saturday. They had about 30 discs in a sack that they had pulled out. I told them that it was against the law to be out there and they needed a permit do be doing it. I'm sure you can guess how that went over....

Jan 31 2007, 05:00 PM
thanks Eddie...that sux! It was during the Ice Bowl...

if anyone see this disc, please say somthing to the person that has it. It actually has a stamp of someone putting on the basket at LaMirada. Silver stamp...I'd love to have it back.

Just talked to scott and he said that there were 20 spots left as of this morning.

Possibly 10 entries came in today so perhaps only 10 spots left?

I am not sure how many mail entries came in today.

Paypal may go down briefly while the count is verified but it will be posted the time that paypal will go back up so that others can register. Paypal may also not go down this is up to SA.

I currently have 54 people that have paypalled that should all be in. This is the most ever for any event since I have started accepting paypal for events.

Generally the password is sent out early by the PDGA but in this case I am not sure if SA's email blocked the message or what. We are working to get this information online though.

The event will likely be full by the end of this weekend if not earlier.

update on buckhorn.

Those who have sent paypal that has not yet been approved should be in as of now but as the event is close to filling I want to make sure we do not accept more than we have capacity for.

Your entry has been sent to SA and once I get confirmation that you have a spot your paypal will be approved.

Buckhorn PayPal is closed.

Just talked to SA and the event is likely full with the mail entries he has received.

If any spots remain we will post and let folks know.

btw... list is not "current" with the last minute updates but SA did get the prereg list up last night.

http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=6484

The list will be updated again with those late entries.

if your paypal has been accepted you are in.

if any ams play the blues it should only be adv. the blues is one of the most difficult setups in NC, its def going to be cold, most likely windy, and historically its been wet. also, its going to be a full field and there will be pros shooting in the 60s. why are ints going to play a difficult pro level course in what is most likely going to be subpar weather?

please do not mention anything bout ratings consistency.
