Speaking of the Big XII, the only two teams worth a **** are Kansas, which has been upset in the first round the past two years, and UT, which has one SOLID player and a bunch of scrubs? Too bad there isn't another conference vs conference tournament for the ACC to dominate. :o

Heels will win it all or be the first #1 seed to lose to a #16 seed

Not so fast. I think you forgot the Aggies, a very senior-laden team with great guards and a couple of good big men, which won a road game yesterday in Kentucky against Louisville. Nice going, Selection Committee. Of course, the Ags have been decent on the road....they did beat Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse this year. Also, the Aggies now get to play their next 2 games in San Antonio.....about a 3 hour trip from College Station. :)

Big XII is now 4-1. About to go 6-1 today. There's a good chance the Big XII will get two teams in the Final 4, and 3 teams is not unthinkable.

It was a close game earlier in the year at OSU, but I believe Oden was still playing as a southpaw at the time. If OSU can make it a half court game, they should be able to coast by dominating the boards and feeding Oden in the paint. UT can win by keeping it a fast paced game, being effective with the press and shooting good behind the arc. One downfall for UT is how reliant they are on Lofton. If OSU can clamp down on him, the rest of team will have to play lights out to win. My $0.02.

PS. That was a flagrant foul by Oden at the end of their last game. Too bad Xavier couldn't hit free throws when it mattered the most.

ck34
Mar 22 2007, 05:49 PM
Oden was just trying to grab the ball by lifting up the player from behind and shaking it out of him. Certainly a foul, but more...

The refs overruling their own whistle on the inbounds play. The whistle blew before the ball hit OB, can they overrule the whistle during a time review?

james_mccaine
Mar 23 2007, 01:17 PM
That wasn't a "touch" foul. You can't move/push a guy in midair and expect to get away with it with three seconds to go. "Let the players decide the game" has it's legitimacy, until you push a shooter in midair. Mildly pushing a planted guy may not be that big of a deal, but that guy was in midair and that push definately affected his shot.

Getting a rebound might have helped, or getting that other rebound, or getting that other rebound, or making a layup. The ags had everything in their favor. Congrats to them for a great and exciting year, but officials had nothing to do with their exit.

By the way, congrats to the Salukis, they really did deserve that seed.

Give me a break. Did you watch the replay, or are you one of the lame-arse CBS announcers? The ball clearly bounced completely inbounds and then took quite a while to arc and finally hit someone on the bench. They took the right amount of time off the clock.

BTW, those CBS announcers were "teh sUx0r". Uh, note to announcers: when the refs are spending a long time on the replay, and your own guys in the truck are showing the replay over and over and over and zooming in on the ball bouncing completely inbouds, you might take that as a hint to actually look at the replay. Those guys sucked!

Rhett, by the OB rule, the clock was set correctly, but the whistle happened as soon as the ball crossed the OB line.

This is no different than a NFL ref's "inadvertant" whistle stopping play. They can't overrule their own whistle. Is that rule the same in basketball? That is my question.

No, they can't because the clock stops by rule on a whistle. NCAA Rule 5-9-1. They can correct an obvious error, but they shouldn't have taken 1.1 seconds off.....but rather 0.3 seconds off at most. The touch foul is annoying at the end, but it didn't alter the shot or create an advantage at all, and they had been letting much bigger contact go on all night without a foul. But I'm just bitter. I don't the time taken off at the end cost A&M the game,; you can point to the missed free throws and layups for that. But A&M gets a little closer to the basket if the officials didn't erroneously take too much time off. Maybe they get a better shot.

I like the way Gillispie put it after the game. "Memphis did a good job only fouling us TWICE in the second half". I think you can read between the lines to see what he thought of it.

The letdown to Michael Beasley and the Kansas State Wildcats tarnished their unbeaten season, but the Jayhawks should be a #1 seed along with Memphis, Duke, and either North Carolina or UCLA.

If Duke is the #1 seed in the East Regional in Charlotte, their ticket to the Final Four might as well be already punched.

This Purdue alum loves to hear the Boilers talked up! If the prediction becomes reality, it would be quite ironic: The last time the Boilers were in the Final Four, it was the season before Gene Keady started coaching at Purdue, and then the next time they got there, it would be shortly after he left!

Gene does have at least one former player coaching well: Kevin Stallings, at Vandy, I think?

And yeah, so does Knight, but Alford was an overachiever even before Knight got ahold on him.

Swistak,

If you watched the Big East tournament, Pitt's foul shooting was atrocious and I think it will catch up with them. Memphis' free-throwing shooting is even worse, and I have Pitt beating them in my brackets. However, I don't think Pitt beats Texas in essentially a home game to be played in Houston. :(

JeremyReiher
Mar 17 2008, 06:33 PM
I don't even have Memphis playing Texas. I have Pitt upsetting Memphis. The talent level in the tournament is INSANE this year. You could make a legitimate argument for about 10-15 schools winning it all and not sound like a moron.

my bad, I musta read something wrong on espn last night, I thought they were playing each other soon. I'm not following it too closely, obviously! I am surprized to see no one picked Duke for the final four, or to win it in the pole. Even if they haven't had a perfect season...

all four #1's make the final four this year, and all four #10 seeds win in round 1. I'd like to see UNC/UCLA but I think Kansas and UCLA will play for it all

jmc2442
Mar 18 2008, 06:02 PM
I have Kansas and UCLA as well. However, there is no way Butler will lose to South Alabama, one 10 seed out, count it now. I have Miami as a 7 winning as well, but that one is tougher to call.

It's been a really fun tournament but I hate that all four #1 seeds advanced for the first time ever. In bracket pools every year I see a lot of people who don't really know much about college basketball picking all four #1 seeds to advance and these folks may have gotten unfairly rewarded this year.

Davidson's run was really something - they were almost George Mason from two years ago. To be honest, I am still shocked that Memphis escaped the South bracket. I had Stanford in the Final Four, and that Memphis beat Texas in Houston is really something.

So this Pitt U-conn game is going to shake up the Top 4 in all the Polls next week. Oklahoma looks like s shoe in for #1 but with U-conn , Pitt. and Carolina all with 2 loss's all with similar records against ranked teams (all are close to 4 and 1) it is a crap shoot where everyone ends up.

this all hinges on Carolina beating NC State tonight. if that happens (and it better) who know who wil end up #2 next week

Okay, This is a free deal. You get to see which disc golfers know something about college basketball and are lucky at the same time. In the process, there will be some cool disc golf stuff given away (that means stuff for free) after each round of games.

When it is over, the top 3 get more cool disc golf stuff for making some predictions about college basketball.

So, what are you waiting for? Have some fun for FREE and take a chance to get some cool disc golf stuff from our sponsor, Texas Oklahoma Disc Golf Company.

Or as we say here in Okie land, "What are ya, chickin??" :D:D

I do too, which is why I was freaking out!

While some high seeds uncharacteristically struggled, from an upset standpoint, it's been a fairly boring tournament so far. Wake Forest and West Virginia were the only real shockers, imo. I wouldn't be surprised however if Wisconsin beats Xavier today, and USC beats Michigan St.

The way Kansas State has looked since the beginning of January, I thought that they would get blown out again by Kansas like they did back on Jan. 29th. Instead they trounce the Jayhawks 84-68.

Texas and Kansas fans may beg to differ, but imo, this year's championship is still Ohio State's to lose though.
