Looks like the PRO field has filled...but Des is still listed in the Male ranks...if you want in...you'll need to lobby to Des and get her to move back into the Women's field.

Lady is correct the OPEN players will be playing Woodshed twice and ALL the other divisions (Babes, OLD and Really OLD) are playing Whippin' Post twice. Many of the returning players will get to play a seldom see hole on the Woodshed.

Good news the OPEN division is now full and the waiting list has now opened up. Click www.wvo.eventbrite.com (http://www.wvo.eventbrite.com) place your name on this yeers' OPEN Waiting list or to Register. We currently need 25 additional players to complete a full field of pro players for this yeers' event. Things should flow much better at this yeers' event playing in foursomes.

Friday August 31st 11:00 am $50.00 a Team BYOP DOUBLES. If you did not know Lady and Cragger will celebrate their vows at 7:00 pm Friday at the Upper Pond.

that should say "seldom seen" hole...in other words on sunday you'll play a Woodshed hole with a pin placement that hasn't been used in a while.

hint - It's NOT hole 3...and it is a potential birdie.

If it's Sunday, I'm guessing only Open will play the "seldom seen" hole?

And for the record, every hole can be a potential birdie....it just depends on whether it's a birdie 2 or a birdie 3 or a birdie 4, etc. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

OK here's the commercial ...
Nate Doss steps up the tee on the last hole of the Worlds with a 1 stroke lead. Nate has a difficult up and down shot left to win the tourney. He's got trees all around him and only a tiny hole to throw through. Some dude comes out of nowhere and starts telling Nate to throw a tomahawk over the clearing in the trees and park it next to the hole. Nate asks if this dude is another pro. Due to the popularity of the Survivor shows, WVU-TV is planning to do its
own show entitled "Survivor: West Virginia Style."

The contestants will start in Paw-Paw, travel down to New Martinsville
and on to Parkersburg. From there they will head over to Ripley and Odessa
and Summersville. They will then proceed up to Buckhannon, Clarksburg and
Fairmont, then west through Barrackville, Hundred and Bannen; then up to
Cameron, Lone Oak and back over to Paw Paw.

Each will be driving a pink Volvo with New Jersey license plates and large
bumper stickers that read

"NASCAR Sucks"

"Go Pitt"

"Copenhagen is for idiots"

"Hillary in 2008"

"Deer Hunting is Murder"

"Say No to Budweiser"

and

another installment of WV funnies...

Sam has been in the computer business for 25 years and is finally
sick of the stress. He quits his job and buys 50 acres of land in
West Virginia as far away from humanity as possible.

Sam sees the postman once a week and gets groceries once a month.
Otherwise it's total peace and quiet. After six months or so of
almost total isolation, he's finishing dinner when someone knocks on
his door. He opens it and there is a big, bearded West Virginian
standing there.

'Name's Enoch... Your neighbor from four miles over the ridge...
Having a party Saturday... thought you'd like to come.'

'Great,' says Sam, 'after six months of this I'm ready to meet some
local folks. Thank you.'

As Enoch is leaving he stops, 'Gotta warn you there's gonna be some
drinkin!'

'Not a problem... after 25 years in the computer business, I can do
that with the best of them.'

Again, as he starts to leave Enoch stops. 'More 'n' likely gonna be
some fightin', too.'

****, Sam thinks... tough crowd. 'Well, I get along with people.
I'll be there. Thanks again.'

Once again Enoch turns from the door. 'I've seen some wild sex at
these parties, too.'

'Now that's not a problem' says Sam, 'Remember I've been alone for
six months! I'll definitely be there ... by the way, what should I
wear to the party?'

Enoch stops in the door again and says 'Whatever you want, it's just
gonna be the two of us!'

Almost heaven, west virginia
Blue ridge mountains
Shenandoah river -
Life is old there
Older than the trees
Younger than the mountains
Growin like a breeze

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads

All my memories gathered round her
Miners lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine
Teardrops in my eye

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads

I hear her voice
In the mornin hour she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And drivin down the road I get a feelin
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads
Take me home, now country roads
Take me home, now country roads

Here is some educated and cultured info on WV and a poem to follow by Louise McNeill who was born in 1911 in Pocahontas County, West Virginia, on a farm that her family had lived on for nine generations. She said of herself, "Until I was sixteen years old, until the roads came, the farm was about all I knew: our green meadows and hilly pastures, our storied old men, the great rolling seasons of moon and sunlight, our limestone cliffs and trickling springs." Louise McNeill was appointed Poet Laureate of West Virginia in 1979. She died in 1993.

West Virginia
Poem by Louise McNeill

Where the mountain river flows
And the rhododendron grows
Is the land of all the lands
That I touch with tender hands;
Loved and treasured, earth and star,
By my father's father far--
Deep-earth, black-earth, of-the-lime
From the ancient oceans' time.
Plow-land, fern-land, woodland shade,
Grave-land where my kin are laid,
West Virginia's hills to bless--
Leafy songs of wilderness;
Dear land, near land, here at home--
Where the rocks are honeycomb,
And the rhododendrons . . .
Where the mountain river runs.

I realize there are tons of expenses out at Spences, but it didn't seem like a 100% payout. If you add all of the payout up, it totals around $6500ish, but I thought there was a minimum $7200 in entry fees? Please don't think I am complaining Tony, just confused. Sep 12 2007, 05:07 PM
OK, let me break this down for everyone. When Spencer ran the WVO in the past he would have the entry fee for the event; when a player would arrive he or she would HAVE TO pay greens/camping fees. Now I can't speak for most of the Disc Golfers, but for some reason it was really hard for them to come off of an additional $10. When Susi and Myself took over running the WVO we clearly state that your Entry Fee "includes all extraneous fees" which include, the PDGA Sanctioning & PDGA Player fees, Greens/Camping and Don Johns(and trust us...we need the Dons Johns), course maintenance and mowing fees.

So when you break it down the $100 fee your only playing for $81 per person, there for this yeers' WVO total Pro purse is $5832 then we added money to each of the divisions via sponsor and the WVO minis.

Understand that Running Tournaments is NOT a money making endeavor, in fact it always turns into a losing proposition!
I can't calculate how much time and money I have personally put into the WVO. Susi's mini making, in which he spends countless hours making minis at no monetary gain to himself! As well as Spencer and Gabi's gas expenditures for course maintenance. (which the $10 paid doesn't dent the yearly mower fuel bill) Most nights I end up taking WVO related phone calls and an doing some sort of WVO related data entry and then on weekends I drive 2.5 hours each way to Paw Paw to work on the courses and even though I'm there just about every weekend, I rarely get to play the courses...I can't understand how I got into the finals !!!

Tony,

Please don't take my comment as though I thought you were making money off this tourney. I realize there are tons of expenses and didn't know you took money from each players entry. That is a great idea! I just didn't understand your previous email and after I added up the money noticed it seemed a bit low. I didn't know how much added cash you had, thought you might have gotten some from the AM weekend.

You and Susi do so much for that tourney, most of which goes unrecognized. Thank you both and thanks to all the others who make Paw Paw what it is. The reason you played so well is because you played every round with me punk! :D

Always looking for ways to accommodate everyone.

Sep 13 2007, 11:58 AM
For years one of the most common things I would hear from mid-Atlantic golfers was "you gotta go to Paw Paw", etc. I even tried to find the place (by myself) back 1997 or 1998. I was using the directions in the course directory, but I never could find the place. I drove around for more than two hours, ended up deep in a valley near a river which led to envisions of the movie "Deliverence"! I kept my windows up in fear of hearing dueling banjos...

After moving to Pittsburgh in 2000, the local steel-city golfers kept telling me how great Paw Paw was, especially the West Virginia Open. I finally went in 2005 and I have since regretted not going all those previous years. Not only is the golf contested on two of the most fun, challenging and frustrating courses out there, the WVO experience is unlike anything else. It is absolutely my favorite tournament to attend and I am looking forward to the following yeer's event as soon as I take a left out of Spencer and Gabi's driveway.

The West Virginia Open would not be what it is without the likes of Tony, Mark, Spencer, Gabi and anyone else who makes this event happen yeer after yeer. I think I speak for many when I say it is an honor and a privilege to play the WVO and spend Labor Day weekend camping with friends (and family) at The Woodshed & The Whippin' Post (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=paw+paw+wv&ie=UTF8&ll=39.569176,-78.403244&spn=0.006997,0.014462&t=h&z=16&om=0).

He know's I already told him...and he said he has submitted everything and paid off the PDGA...Although I can't verify the timing...so what Chuck said may be the answer.

Dave said the other day that he had processed 150 reports and still had 50 more to go for this ratings update. So, WVO may be in that last 50.

Gentry indicated he has not received the WVO report and not even the WV Ams from back in June. Neither will be in this ratings update.

Hmmmm........not bad news for me considering I shot well below my rating during this event.
Bad news for Mr. Pitts.....that smokin' red-hot score of 58 he posted on the Woodshed is unofficially reporting as a 1044 rated round. :o
Is that your highest rated round, PP?

I let Tony know...

And so you all know...we are doing this just to irk PP!

I had to use the word "irk" so I wouldn't get censored by "Big Brother"

Nope.... have plenty in the 1040's. I think my highest is 1061.

I was hoping that those rounds would be included, to bring up my rating and what not. O well, next update maybe????

The good news is that all reports have eventually been submitted by the final yearly update in January for the past two years so no ratings have been lost.

Chuck are you now saying he (Gentry) HAS the reports??

This is all so confusing  ...I'm going to start running the PTWPA (pro tiddly-winks players assoc.)

ck34
Nov 06 2007, 01:21 PM
No, just that even the TDs who are tardy all year eventually get the reports to Gentry before the yearend deadline.

Funny, we've been doing this for 14 years and never had a problem...I know Tony has submitted both reports (WVC and WVO) in a timely fashion!

The problem lies with the Administration...Don't fault the messenger.
