The Piney Woods Pro-Am III, held in Lindsey Park, Tyler Texas is two months away! With one benefactor already pledging between $10 to $20 THOUSAND for the charity this should be a memorable occasion. Please take note, this money is going directly to the charity, not to sponsorship. With a donation of that size, the importance of Disc Golf will be elevated in many eyes here in East Texas. This will be your last major chance to pick up points for next years point total, don't be 10 points shy of a personal record or worse yet just shy of the total points winner for 2006.

I have posted the entry on TitleDisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com/Events/PineyWoodsProAm06.php). Within the next couple of days there will be an option to purchase InColor discs as well. Please remember the sale of these discs help to sponsor the tournament. For those of you that collect the odd disc there will be a small supply of the newly released Star Orcs and even better the illusive and hard to find SPECIAL BLEND WRAITHS. Yes you read correctly, Special Blend Wraiths, as sweet as the Special Blend Orcs were, imagine a faster disc in that same plastic.

For those of you that want to buy one of these without entering the tournament, drop me a line at jerrypower@sbcglobal.net and I will see what I can do for you. If sponsorship is anything like last year the payouts should be PHAT for both Open and Am divisions. I will be posting a copy of the entry form in the next couple of days and like last year, entrees come pretty close to being the least expensive in the USA for a B Tier event.

For an example, if I have 3 or more Juniors at 13 and under, I will add this division. Also, a Senior Advanced divsion will be added, however at the request of several Sr players, there will only be 3 rounds, two on Saturday and the final round will be played in the afternoon on Sunday.

Cant wait to get back to Tyler. I think by the time I get there, I will have all the stickers from Oklahoma removed from my gear. Ready to load back up on some of those Tyler stickers. OUCH.

Hey Jerry, is there any camping near the course?

Mr. Nolan will be playing if even if I have to hog-tie him and throw him in the trunk of the car to get him there. This tourney is too close and for too good a cause for him to find an excuse to avoid it, no matter how he played the Tyler course on Sunday! - He DID win the Athens Halloween trophy this year though. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif - the cannuck's wife, Jenn

All the stickers are gone by December. As for camping, I will be posting Hotel and camping info in the next couple of weeks. Now since I am hitting you up for a place during VPO the least I can do is offer you a spot in my backyard ;)

Sorry Mr. Power, I don't believe you there. I remember bringing home a ton of those suckers with me last December, especially on my DG bag, and that's one reason I switched to the Revo bag I won from the tournament.

I cannot wait to get back in Tyler. Remember out-of-towners, Jerry had us out of there by 4pm last year, and I'm sure he can do it again. If all events were like that, my wife wouldn't mind if I played more golf!

TitleDisc (http://www.titledisc.com/Events/PineyWoodsProAm06.php) should have the InColor discs on the registeration page this evening. The InColor stamp will include the rose and dragonfly. Please consider buying one with your entry. If anyone is interested in buying one outside of the Tournament please drop me a line at jerrypower@sbcglobal.net. This group of discs will include the new Star Orcs, Star TeeRexs and a run of the SPECIAL BLEND PLASTIC in a Wraith. About 1/4 of the Special Blend Wraiths are already spoken for, so don't wait on these.

Wellllll..... all TD's like you to sign up early, because it reduces the amount of work that they have to do before Saturday morning. It also makes it easier to get things going on time. Regardless of the above, we will be palying two courses, with a max of 72 per course. There should be spots available Friday evening.

As for the hotel, I will try and get that info posted by this weekend.

Well it is with a heavy heart that I must announce the host hotel has declined to sponsor the tournament again. However, they have agreed to give us a discounted rate of $69.00 per night under a general discount they have in place.

The hotel has been very graciously donating two hotel rooms for traveling players, however after looking at the number of rooms booked last year they feel they cannot do so and break even. Please do not fault the hotel, they were very kind to give us two free rooms for the last two years. The hope was that as the tournament grew, so would the bookings. They have increased, but last year they only had 8 bookings and they were hoping for closer to 20. So, I will not be able to offer free rooms to the returning champ from last year nor to one of the 2006 Worlds Amateur TD's as promised. I hope they can still make it, but I can understand if they cannot.

I did speak to Microtel and while they are interested, they do not have a hotel in our area yet.

If anyone is interested, a discounted rate can be obtained of $69.00 at the following:

Holiday Inn Select-Tyler
5701 S Broadway Ave
Tyler, TX 75703

(903) 561-5800

To obtain the rate you must book under "the holiday rate". There are some lesser expensive hotels in the area and I shall continue to ask for sponsorship from each of these. Most of the rest of the hotels are only $10 cheaper and do not have a bar and restaurant in the hotel. If anything comes of this I will let everyone know.

One of the last major events of the year!! This B-Tier PDGA Sanctioned tournament is played at Lindsey Park in Tyler, Texas. We have two courses in the same park and have had great weather for the last two years. The two courses allow us to run two rounds a day, quickly. Did I say quickly? I have had everyone on the road by 4:30 PM and have even managed to play 18 holes after everyone left. This will be a great opportunity to see the training ground for the '06 Worlds Adv Masters champion. ;) With a mix of length and technical you should have a great time playing our courses.

This tournament is a benefit to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. For the last 27 years I have been a Juvenile Diabetic and my 13 year old son has been for the last 10 year. It is a constant struggle to balance medication, food and exercise as a Juvenile Diabetic, any of you that have played with me have seen me suffer from the short term effects of low blood sugar. What most of you are not familiar with are the long term effects. I hope to help find a cure for this auto-immune disease so that my son does not also have this disease for the next 17 years. Without a cure I have kidney, heart, eye and many other ancillary diseases to look forward to. With every entry you will be donating $3 to the JDRF and with a major benevolent group in Tyler donating $10,000 in the name of this event we will be able help support this important research into finding a cure for what can be a devastating disease.

You can sign up today on www.titledisc, or you can sign up Friday evening at the park or Saturday morning before the rules meeting. I hope to see everyone there!!

I am now offering Trophy Only for the following divisions:

Men's Open (Trophy Only entry) $35
Women's Open (Trophy Only entry) $30

This is approximately the entry fee minus $3 to JDRF minus $3 for PDGA fees, divided by 2 and the $6 added back in. So for Open the entry fee is $58 and to calculate Trophy Only:

(58-3-3)/2+6 approximately $35.

I will have Ben fix titledisc.com to show this as well.

See everyone in December!!

I seem to remember the drive from Austin last year being around 4 hours (with one 15-min stop). By the way, do NOT speed in all those tiny little towns between Waco and Tyler--they will gitcha.

I think I will be going back to T-town again this year--if anybody wants to split gas money on the way up and back, PM me.

For those of you out there " up in the air " about this event. Play it, it is worth the drive.
This is a must play event for me, Jerry does a great job.
I would call it a no nonsense event, you get there , their is a brief players meeting , there is paperwork that documents the in's and out's of the course, and you go have fun. The courses are spectacular, and challenging . To top it all off he gave Revo bags to the advanced and intm winners last year, sweet prize! Also, his tournamnet discs are probably the best I have ever seen. I put my Glo Orc with Lockwoods arse on it, right on the wall . Go play this event.

I will continue to take tournament sponsorship and contributions up through the tournament. Consider being a part of this great tournament.

We have two courses in the same park. Each course has a set of Blue and Red Tees, which the Open and Advanced divisions will be getting the oppurtunity to play. Int, Rec and Jr will be playing only the short tees. For the past two years I have had everyone on the road, Sunday, no later than 4:30 PM and that is what I will be shooting for again this year. Consider buying a CFR disc if you cannot make the tournament. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is a charity close to my heart, since I have suffered from Juvenile Diabetes, also referred to as Type I diabetes for over 27 years, as has my youngest son for the past 10 years.

He had me listed as Carrollton Disc Golf Club

I would rather it be listed as the Carrollton Open or the Mr. Jim's Carrollton Open. (not just "Mr. Jim's")

The donation came from the tournament.

as far as what is on the t-shirt, I don't really care. You can list "Carrollton Open" or "Mr. Jim's Carrollton Open"

Actually, when I read Carrollton disc golf club, I though you were talking about the OMB vs YBG, I now see you had them listed before that

Ack, what has happened to the time? I MUST order t-shirts today. Guys and Gals, it is always a guessing game as to the number required. I promise the first pre-registered set will get the sizes requested, but as of this afternoon, sizes after that will be catch as catch can. The problem is that I don't want to end up with 4 medium and 2 XXXL shirts left over. They don't fit me. To fat for medium and too short to wear XXXL, so if you want a semi-guarantee of a t-shirt in your size then please pre-register. This does not apply to the Open divisions, I will be rewarding pre-registered open players in another way. Maybe say a mini with the tournament stamp, or something along those lines.

A plug for pre-registering, it makes the TD's life much easier and speeds tournament starts. The next time you are at a tournament and it does not start on time, you must realize that it is due to Saturday morning registrations. Friday night reg's are fine, but Saturday morning is a killer. I will be running this tournament ON TIME. As several of you may remember I start at the posted times, with the exception of Saturday morning start. I want to give people time to register on Saturday morning, but once it is time to post tee assignment, there is no way I will continue to take registration.

The extended forecasts are showing the same weather as we have had for the past two years, mid 40's in the morning warming to high 50's, lo 60's. Hopefully it will even beat that this year.

A bunch of us were out cleaning the course yesterday and it is looking very nice. Unfortunately, the city did not get the remaining tee boxes in this year, but they are talking about finishing them out early next year. So we still have a mix of natural and artificial tee-pads.

When you pre-register, please consider purchasing a sponsorship disc. These help to raise money and are a good way to remember the event.

This year the sponsorship has allowed me to raise over $1000 of added cash for the open divisions. I have several sponsors who have committed, but not given me a dollar number yet, so hopefully we will see this raise a bit. For the amateurs, I hope to see the player's package covered again this year, but this depends on a few more sponsors out there. Did I mention you need to purchase a sponsorship disc? Yes those purchases help to raise Open money AND cover amateur packages.

Enough rambling.

Jerry, I'm signing up via titledisc today. Since you haven't posted anything to the contrary, I'm assuming that MA2 is playing the same teeboxes as MA1. Please don't pull a Ben Poole and inform us of course changes after cards are made up and it's too late to move up :)

I understand the benefits TDs get from players signing up early, so I'm signing up now. I'm sure Jerry understands the needs of the pre-registering players as well. Format for Piney Woods:

This is the format and has been played this way for the last two events:

Open and Advanced players will play the Long Tees and long Pins on Satruday, Short Tees and short pins on Sunday. Saturday Morning these divisions will start on Blue Long and Saturday afternoon move to Red Longs. Sunday morning Pool A will play Red Shorts and Sun afternoon will finish on Blue Shorts.

Rec and Int will play short tees/long pins on Saturday and short tees/short pins on Sunday. Pool B will play Red Short Tees/Long Pins (where we have long) on Saturday morning and Blue Short Tees/Long Pins (once again where we have long pins) in the afternoon. Pool B will play Blue Shorts on Sunday morning and Red Shorts in the afternoon.

This has been this way for the last two tournaments and will continue to be this way in the future. There are several reasons for this, but the primary reason is timing. If I have intermediate and rec play the long tees/long pins, Pool B will not finish before it is dark on Satruday. As it stands, it will be tight as it is. There is a second reason, the majority of the Int. and Rec players will find the courses challenging from the short tees and would fnd the long tees to be too challenging. If you have signed up already and want to change divisions, just let me know and I will change your division. Sorry for those of you that are disappointed, I know that when I have played Advanced Master and played from the short tees that I was not happy about it, but about half the Adv. Masters would prefer to play from the shorts and about half from the long so the TD sometimes has to make a call that some players are not happy about. I cannot have the Int and Rec divisions finishing in the dark on Saturday and this is the only solution available. I am more than willing to talk about alternate solutions for future events, but I don't see this one changing.

I understand that this call needs to be made, even if I don't agree with lumping MA2 and MA3 together. Players with at least an 875 rating (MA2) should be able to throw over 300 feet reliably. Under that is a different story. New players having to throw long tees will likely slow the tournament down, but not everyone rated under 915 is new to this sport.

I just think that some effort should be made to make this information available before entries are taken. I have no interest in the short tees, but I also wanted to make this my last MA2 tournament. As it sits, I may need to ask for a refund. Please let me know if anything changes.

Nov 27 2006, 10:46 AM
MA3 have no business at a sancationed event.
And MA2 should have their own weekend
MA1 and Open their own weekend.
If you have no interest in the short tees....step up your game and become a MA1/OPEN.
Look at it this way.....ma3/ma2 need incentive to step up their skills and get out of the beginner divisions.Or get behind the ropes and watch golfers that have the drive to be a better golfer.

baldguy
Nov 27 2006, 11:35 AM
wow... that is possibly the most short-sighted post I've ever read on this board... and that is saying something. Everyone has to learn somewhere. To intentionally exclude *any group* from a sanctioned event is not only selfish, but simply stupid. The more amateur players you include in an event, the better your profits. The sooner a new player is exposed to sanctioned play, the sooner he'll want to step his game up and become more competitive.

This sport is about having fun, not about serving one person's selfish agenda. Run your events how you like, but this isn't your event. MA2 is not a beginner division, it's a ratings-based division. I know plenty of quality golfers who are lots of fun to play with, who also happen to be rated below 915. I've played tons of events, and I'm moving to MA1 permanently next year (whether my rating forces me up or not)... but my rating still allows me to play MA2 and I'd like a couple more shots at a division win before I move up. Rest assured, none of this is in any way affected by your opinion of what constitutes a tournament-worthy disc golfer.

Anyway, back to the subject at hand. Jerry, If you have any plans to put MA2 on the long tees, let me know. Otherwise, I've either got to find another sanctioned event or play yours and move up early.

vinnie
Nov 27 2006, 12:27 PM
The more amateur players you include in an event, the better your profits.

thats what needs to stop the profit thing. How about bettering the sport.
A MA2 only event would make winning more meaningful....instead of being the winner of the fourth best division offered at a event.

This sport is about having fun, not about serving one person's selfish agenda.

The sport is about fun...tournaments are work for the players, then comes fun.
And if my selfish agenda is to highlight the player in their division and to obtain big sponsors (that want to see the best player of the weekend and big galleries, instead of the best players of 6 different divisions of the weekend)
then yeah call it selfish. Look at it this way....
100 players and in that pool of players is 6 women. Ask yourself " Do you think the winner of the ladies feel like the best player of the weekend?"
Then look at P.G.A. events.....Two times a year you see amateurs playing on T.V. US open (kinda like our u.s.d.g.a) and the Amateur championships (kinda like our amateur world championships)
Nike will never sponsor a rec/int event....but they might just sponsor a pro only event.
All this takes away from the event at hand...so off my soup box...have a great day!

Nov 27 2006, 12:38 PM

Honestly, Jerry is doing the MA2 and MA3 divisions a favor.
The long tee's out in Tyler are not designed for players of that skill level. The short tee's will be enough of a challenge. You can not have a player that is taking 5's on a short tee stepping up to a long tee . This move is for the benefit of the entire field of players. How do you think Jerry has us on the road before sundown on Sunday???
Baldguy, I thought you knew better than this!
Vinnie has an excellent perspective that NEEDS to be adpoted by the disc golf community. He is working for progress, you are working based off of your agenda.... Step up or shut up :D

I have done a little review of the averages of the previous 2 tournaments and determined that the addition of the long tees over the short tees on blue would add about 6 to 8 strokes to the Intermediate division's scores. Since Intermediate will be playing Blue in the evening, this could add another 20 to 30 minutes of playing time and would guarantee that Pool B would be finishing in the dark. As it stands some slow groups may be putting their last hole in the dark anyway and 20 to 30 minutes would be a killer.

On the Red course this is a different matter. The longs versus the shorts should add between 5 to 7 strokes which once again makes about a 15 to 25 minute difference, however the first year Pool B ended about 30 minutes faster than Pool A and the second year they finished about 20 minutes sooner. The main difference being that you are less likely to get in big trouble on the Red versus the Blue. So since I cannot move the Intermediates to Pool A how about a compromise.. Intermediate plays Red Longs on Saturday morning. This should allow the groups to finish at the same time.

I cannot have the intermediates playing Blue Longs in the evening or I will have too many people playing in the dark. This is a late year event and daylight is in short supply. I have thought about starting earlier on Saturday, but have had too many people saying they were driving in on Saturday and needed the time to get here.

This is the best I can do, I am sorry and I understand why you want to play the longs. You have an arm for them, but not all the intermediate players do yet. By the way the average on the Blue short for Adv. Masters was only 1 stroke better than the Intermediate division, which is why some people want to put the Adv. Masters on the short courses as well, but there is a difference, the Adv. Masters know the rules much better than the average Int. Player and will hold people to 3 minutes on lost disc, are quicker to make rules decisions, etc, etc, etc.

Let me know if my compromise is not sufficient and I will refund your entry if need be.

Vinnie has strong opinions on how things should be, and he is correct to a point. I agree that there are certain events and courses that should not host Rec or even Int divisions. However, there are a similar number of events that would do well to not host Pro or even Adv divisions.

I do feel that the vast majority of courses and events work for all divisions. This is especially true of courses like Tyler that have and use appropriate tee/pin configurations for each skill level. There are players within each skill level that do not fit the disatnce model of that level, but for the most part, the distance models are pretty close.

I would also say that in the interest of growing the sport, hosting events that are targeted at the rec and beginner having fun are much more important than events that are targeted at making the Pro/Adv players happy.

It is also more likely that a new player that was assisted in his game by a known pro is more likely to show up at a Pro/Adv only tournament to assist or watch. So the best investment that a Pro/Adv player can make in their future as a disc golfer is to assist at a Rec/Int only tournament and create a larger fan base.

you assume too much about the MA2 skill level.

I agree that putting players of lower skill levels on some more difficult holes is a bad thing. I got a very big dose of that during my 1-hour-plus wait on champ. 8 during the VPO. That said, I don't think the answer is blocking off an entire division like that. I'm rated under 900 at the moment (playing Waco with pneumonia wasn't a great idea), but I don't expect to take a 5 on anything at Tyler. I have lots of bad rounds, but I can shoot in the 930-960 range quite frequently. the point is that not all MA2 players are the losers you make us out to be.

vinnie
Nov 27 2006, 01:51 PM
You got it wrong!
MA2 are not losers...but there is a place for them...set them up to succeed...don't puTT on champ 8 at VPO.
And if you are playing at a 930-960 level. Why are you playing MA2....is it to discourage true MA2 players and make them the losers?
As long as we treat you like a pro in MA2 clothing .....you will never get better to move up

gnduke
Nov 27 2006, 01:53 PM
But it is a statistical fact that MA2 players as a group are a bit shorter on the drive than MA1. On the long tees that's the difference between a mix of birdies/pars and a few bogies and a lot of all star pars and few worse.

Yes, there are a few long arms that are inconsistent in their short game, but that is not the majority of the division.

gnduke
Nov 27 2006, 01:58 PM
If the courses were set up properly, there should be a smooth slope of scores starting at first with several players within a few strokes. When the course isn't set up properly for the division, the 1-3 players that have skills that match the course beat the division by 5+ strokes.

I have lots of bad rounds, but I can shoot in the 930-960 range quite frequently. the point is that not all MA2 players are the losers you make us out to be.

No one's making MA2 out to be losers. Inconsistant, yes. Losers, no.

One comment...If you are not expecting to 5 anything, then you should absolutely be playing MA1.

I agree

Nov 27 2006, 02:41 PM
I would also assume that Baldguy has not seen some of the alternate basket placements in the Long to Long format. Definately not for the MA2/3 divisions. I give a lot of credit to Jerry Powers. He facilitates the needs of the masses when running his events. There will always be something to complain about, Jerry keeps that to a minimum.
Looking forward to this one fo' sho!

Jerry's a friend... this is not a knock on him or his courses. I just simply don't agree that MA2 is in the same "beginner" classification that warrants course changes. MA3 is a different story. BTW... Bender... just because I don't *expect* to take any 5s doesn't mean that I won't ;). I've seen all but the newest placements at the Tyler courses, and there isn't one out there (that I know of) on which I would be happy with a 5.

Maybe this is more of an issue with how divisions are defined... and maybe I'll just move up early so you will all shut yer donkeys.

atxdiscgolfer
Nov 27 2006, 04:20 PM
I cant think of to many holes where I would be happy with a 5 besides maybe hole#21 @ Circle C; but holes #1 and 2 can easily be bogied especially with a double mando off the teebox.

Nov 27 2006, 04:23 PM
Hole 2 on the long tee..... That could put up a 5 or two..
I would anticipate the scoring average for Open/Adv to be about 4.5 on that hole. The three on that hole is very , VERY nice!

cgflesner
Nov 27 2006, 04:26 PM
It might be closer to a 5.0

I have not seen a 3 on that hole yet. Played it with Coda, Farhnam, Dixon, Hall, and a couple of other players who boom it and all 4's or worse.

Agreed! Whom has put up a three on that hole??? Farhnam??
All tweaked out...... :D

You could 3 that hole, but somewhere you would have to throw a roller, and anybody that has played that hole knows that is almost impossible with the sand and twig's and such.

Nov 27 2006, 04:34 PM
I think I know that hole... off the hill, road behind you, fence on the right? the last time I was there, I took a 4 on it and nearly canned my upshot for what would have been (according to lockwood) the first 3 ever on that hole. It's a true par 5 (two good drives, then deuce-or-die from there), but I don't think a 4 is very difficult. I think a 3 would be outstanding, though. That said, I heard Coda managed a 3 on championship 13 at the Vet (13 to 14's basket). That's a *much* tougher hole IMO, so I wouldn't be surprised if a few 3s are had on long 2 during the piney woods pro-am.

Even if that's a tough hole... I don't think it warrants the exclusion of MA2. There are far more challenging holes back in the woods that will be causing more of a backup than the long tees on the (comparatively) wide-open holes.

gnduke
Nov 27 2006, 04:38 PM
The problem is the upshot on #2. It has a very low ceiling and a soft sandy floor. Very hard to get a long flat skip, or a consistent roller. If you play it safe, a 4 should be pretty simple, if you are trying for a shot at a 3, a 5 is never far away.

I have 3'd hole 2 from the short tees several times, but it was a treat and on the money drives. I have come close to 3'ing from the long tee, but it was pretty much one incredible drive, another incredible drive and a missed 60 foot putt. Farnham has 3'd it several times from the long pin. He almost 2'd it once, but that was a roller that did not die in the sand, which happens most of the time, and one heck of an up shot.

I almost 3'd #2 from the long. From about 350'...out to the left...I grounded my second shot (went maybe 100') and ended up with a drop-in 4. Ceiling wasn't an issue, coordination was.

To 3 #1 would take a good drive and probably a great roller 2nd shot.

I took a 3 on the mando hole 1 last year with great ease.
Simple backhand drive , followed by a simple flick. And trust me on this , that was a weenie back hand drive, I have easily put 100 feet on my backhand since then.

Lots o' sarchasim on this thread this afternoon! :D
This is going to be a good year for the Piney Woods Open.
Here is what I really like about this event :
Jerry is a well traveled disc golfer, and one thing I have noticed is that he will take all the things that people complain about @ other events , and make sure those things do not happen. There is a very harmonious vibe in Tyler, and the participants soon realise that .

im coming from tulsa area with 3 of my golf buds. by the way, i'm rated 876 and playing advanced because i simply dont need to have as mutch plastic as i may win in a lower division. if im playing i want the same chalenges that the pros face. when in rome do as the romans. if i expect to compete at a higher rating why would i want to compete at a lower classification ? to get a win? to be called a bagger? to avoid the real competition? i personaly dont have an ounce of respect for a player in a division playing 50 plus points over the field in the rest of that division.

Okay, here is a list of the pre-registered players and some of the players that promised to be here. The majority is pre-registered. Let us up the ante a little.

ALL pre-registered Open players will receive a full color Star mini.

Women Open Players, one sponsor has already promised extra cash for Women Open Only, plus there is always added cash for all Open Divisions at the Piney Woods Pro-Am. If you are sitting on the fence, just look at what the Women's Open Winner won last year......$210 with only 2 entrees. I would like to see at least two cards this year of women open players.

The farthest traveled player is always recognized with a CFR Disc. These discs are beautiful and selling well. Please consider picking up one and helping to sponsor the tournament. For the last two years running the farthest traveled players were from, of all places, British Columbia. This year the award looks to go to a player from San Diego, but wait, I have recently received a note from a player from Germany, whether he makes it for the tournament is yet to be seen, but we can hope.

Remember, in years past there has been a CTP for every card in the third round. With the merchandise sponsors this year I hope to have another large set of CTP's to hand out.

For the past two years Oklahoma has taken two of the first three Open places. I am guessing that since Oklahoma is the Big 12 South Champion this will happen again.... any Texans want to dispute that? I know that I am a Texan, but a Sooner graduate that learned Disc Golf in Norman. I am a native of both states so I can stir things up on both sides of the river ;)

Why so touchy? Some guy chided Jeff for not cashing often, while the same guy ducks the same players Jeff plays against. Jeff's response was far more polite than it should have been, imo.

In short, everyone is valuable to the sport, but if one is unwilling to step up, they certainly shouldn't mock those that do. It is very bad form.

I would sit on a very high horse too if my career earnings were high as yours jeff.

I have brought in almost 700-800 dollars in merch. in one year of sanctioned play . All the while having some of the greatist times of my life. This " touring am " has spent half the money to play , and yeilded more than your career earnings in one year( in merch.) ......... Boy do I feel stupid! I sure am glad that ( we ) am. players have positive role models to look up to in our little community. Keep up the good work!

WOW I struck a chord there...I'm not on any pedestal, those are your words ;) Maybe your right tho, maybe I should move down and take advantage of the AM~nesty thing the PDGA is offering and just quit playing in the Open until I'm worthy of being competitive and being a positive role model for the up and coming players in DG. Looks to be more profitable to just do that, I've been looking at this all wrong the whole time, thanks for opening my eyes lee!!! :D...just one thing was that $700-800 in merch, retail? :DLMAO...J/K....CU in Tyler dude, I hope we can get together and play a round ;)

Retail Yes :(

Play a round in Tyler , mos def.

R U camping ????? You should , the golfers that dont will be missing out on one hell of a good time .....

Mabey Par Roll can show us how to polish off a 30 pack o' stones in under an hour. :D

Hey Jeff ,is your lady friend coming to Tyler? I met her @ VPO, she seemed real nice, I wish I could remember her name

A week and a half away and you think the weather man knows what is going to happen? I am expecting the forcast to change next Tuesday to highs in the mid 60's with lows in the upper 40's to low 50's. Trust the Farmer's Almanac, it is right just as often as the weather man :p

I guess we are going to stay in Carthage about an hour away with Joesmamafoo or we might get a room, definitly not camping tho. Believe me I wanna be down camping getting plastered but, everytime I do I blow my wad and there is no golf left in me, I'd be staying up till 4-5 o'clock in the morning howiling at the moon with a big bottle of Jack...I think that is why I've only cashed 5 out of 27 times...wow that sux typing that number I hope Igota5 feels as dirty as I do from typing that...yuk...lol

No Katie will not be attending she has her son that weekend, She seemed REAL nice @ VPO? R U sure you met my girlfriend? LOL, J/K She's cool LOL...

Joe and I may be leaving Thurs. night, JT~V~TOWN where are you, R U going with us on Thursday??????

When R U going to be there Lee?

Nov 29 2006, 12:34 PM
Most likely I will be there @ the break o' dawn Saturday morning . There is a slight possiblity I might sneak in late Friday night. From what I understand Suemac is setting up camp on Friday night with her posse, so mabey friday...... Looking forward to it! Cant wait to get back to the Piney Woods .................

The forecast for next weekend has already been changed to.... drum roll please........

highs in the low 60's with lows in the 40's (looks remarkably like what I said). By the time the tournament gets here it will be right where I predicted. This is a charity benefit and karma smiles on benefits :)

Hey Jeff, talked to KT a couple of hours ago, and we're camping........or didn't she tell you yet? Bringing Caleb and I'm trying to get ChrisMac to bring Brendon and have a kiddy party. That should (might) keep things in check. LOL

As long as it's not raining, I'm in, that's what my heater is for.

I will have to admit that I have a motel reservation in case of unmanageable weather. Nothing is going to be like waking up at San Saba Monday after teams at a hot nineteen degrees, still a good memory and a great day of golf. Camping and golf go together in my book.

disctance00
Nov 29 2006, 04:42 PM
Yeah keep that reservation that way everybody who camps can pitch in $5 to use it to go and get cleaned up after rounds or something or emergency sleep quarters for the cold or rain if need be....but I think TD is right on, about the weather it should be kosher. Need some logs to burn also, I guess you have to bring it in with you can't get it there.

I'm not gonna be havin a bunch of drunken stuff goin on at my camp with the children there so the bottle stays home and the marshmellows will be hovering above the fire not me ;) Caleb has been askin to go camping, so this will more or less be his campsite along with whatever buddies he can muster up to camp with him. Ya'll know how it is when kids are involved.

You guys and gals could sure help me out by pre-registering. If you do not want to do it via Titledisc.com then just drop me a PM with your e-mail address and I will send an entry form along and you can pay via PayPal or by the mail. I cannot even begin to express how much it helps in starting an event on time if the players are pre-registered. I want to stress this though, if you cannot pre-register then please sign up either on Friday or early Saturday morning. Saturday at 9:00 AM I will be starting the player's meeting and anyone that has been to my events will tell you that I run on time. If I can get some assistance in signing up players I will leave sign ups going during the player's meeting, but if I cannot, you will not get in. It is my philosphy that if the majority of the field is already registered then I am not going to make them wait while I get 10 or 20 more. I know that sometimes that 10 or 20 can make a difference in turning a tournament from a loss to a success, but I also know that I have an obligation to the registered players. Just so you know how I am about published times, I feel bad that I started round 2 on Saturday 5 minutes late.

If you have never been to a tournament that runs on time, you should consider coming to mine. I don't have a lot of frills, no raffle, no ring of fire, but I do run on time. The giveaways are always part of the tournament itself, which means no time lost. For the last two years I have run on time and had players on the road by 4:00 PM on Sunday. This year I will still run on time, but I am expecting more signups and may not be able to get everyone out until 4:30 PM

I will see everyone in 9 to 10 days....

watch out, wEeNie aRM. Even though you refuse to donate your money to the JDRF (although I'm sure you'll be donating it to those who cash in MA1), I'm moving up early. I may cash, I may not. but i *will* talk some smack.

Jerry, please put me in MA1. I'll have the $10 difference for you early the day of.

Advice for your tussle with Guy. Word was that in match play, the only way to beat Guy was to rub his belly for good luck.

Needless to say, Guy kicked butt. ;)

Nov 30 2006, 11:16 AM
Another way to beat guy.....
Pour a six pack down his throat 5 minutes b4 tee time!

When you mix that with the 6 pack he poured down his throat 10 minutes earlier.... Recipe for success!

Way to go Josh. Local Carrollton boys gotta represent! You have my Kudos. By the way pretty decent showing at the VPO. 917 golf for the weekend and a pretty tough MA1 field. You got me by a stroke. All 3 of your rounds were 900 + not too shabby. I think your ready to take on GUY. He is pretty tough though if his ribs arn't broken. You will have your hands full. You have the 450 arm for MA1 so I'm not going to take a side either way. Should be an EPIC BATTLE See ya'll in Tyler.

PUT SOME BOOM IN YOUR BAG!!!!
LIGHTNING DISC.....

Nov 30 2006, 02:30 PM
A booming 450 will do you nothing in Tyler! Mabey a couple of holes here in there , but not in woods!
450 in the woods = broken plastic

Soon, Very soon my friend. I have yet to place top 5 (best ever is 6th) in MA2 s. I guess I am just trying to boost my ever so low self esteem I was also wanting to get on the same card as my friend who just made the jump to MA2 from rec. My rating will get me there soon enough! I will be back at Worlds this year for another go round with MA1's best.

I am switching to Discraft this week. I will still be in front of you, with a bag full of new plastic ..... c u there! Hope those long tee's are worth the pounding you are going to recieve from the MA1 players!

Switching plastic is hardly an excuse. Are you saying you are going to shoot worse just because of the disc you thow. There isn't much difference between innova and disccraft anyway.....So why the switch? You may not be a hack but we all know you are no pro either so i'm ruling out sponsorship as a reason. Lee did you ever think of trying out for Lightning's team? I hear that Slice #2 is a pretty sweet disc...

Switching plastic is no excuse, I have confidence that my game will be on regardless of what I am throwing . As for the switch.. Lets just say a friend of mine showed me the light, A very bright light. I choose to support a company that keeps their customers their main priority.

As far as discraft and innova being similar- I disagree!
As I said earlier, I have seen the light!

Was that the morning I showed up @ 5:30, when it was below 30 degrees outside, assembled 13 baskets ( with no gloves ) , transported 18 baskets ,played 2 rounds of golf , then pulled all 18 baskets............ I think that says enough for itself......
