Bummer. I agree it is tough to play when you have outside distractions.
Unfortunatly my on coarse distractions include a leaf falling when I putt, the wind blowing, a bird chirping, people talking 5 holes away at a barly audible voice, the sky being too blue, someone scratching their head while I take a 70 foot putt and then blaming it on them when I miss. Oh wait thats Dave R's list. I don't have any excuses while on the coarse. :oI'm man enough to blame my poor play on myself not everyone around me.

For the last two years the Piney Woods Pro-Am has pulled players from far and wide. We had three different player's come from British Columbia. We have had player's from Ohio and even Australia, well he was displaced for a while in Texas, but still an Australian. This year I have player's coming from both the far east and the far west. Okay, Chicago is not exactly the far east and San Diego is a far cry from China, but that is a fairly wide difference. One of these player's is going to break the PDGA record for most PDGA sanctioned tournament attended in one year. Very cool! The Piney Woods will either be his 50th or 51st. How can you go to that many tournaments in one year????
Any how, if you are still thinking about it, a couple of things to consider:
- East Texas generally has great weather in December.
- $10,000 plus already raised for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
- An oppurtunity to meet the '06 Adv. Masters World Champion ;)
- Two excellent courses in the same park. One recently nominated as a Top 10 Course for Texas
- A knock your socks off CFR disc with an option to pick up a Special Blend Wraith. I have thrown a misprint that was sent and the disc seems to have more glide than the Star Wraith. More glide? Yes that is the way it appeared to me.
- One of three of the last B-Tier events of the year. There are no more A tiers, so if you need '07 Worlds points, this is the place to pick them up.
http://www.innovadiscs.com/cfr/Gallery/images/06PineyWoods.jpg
and many more things that make this tournament a must play. I hope to see everyone in one week!!!
jERRY, PRE-REG'ING AS SOON AS I FINISH THIS POST!

THanks for all the hard work Mr Powers....

Let me correct Lee. The tournament max is 144, 4 per card, two courses of 18. (18*2*4). I don't believe it will fill, but it is looking like it will push well past 100. Only time will tell. If you are concerned about getting in, you can always pre-register at TitleDisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com/Events/PineyWoodsProAm06.php) I expect that it will not fill at 144, however if everyone shows up to enter at 8:30 on Saturday morning and they are still signing up at 9:20, I will be forced to turn away some players. Once again, I will not cater to the few late sign ups and have 100+ people standing around. I know that is a foreign concept at a lot of tournaments, but that is the way I will do it.

Ouch!!! On that topic, I witnessed this 17 year old stoner take a teebird square between the eyes @ the vet a couple of months ago. The sound alone was enough to make a person pucker up tighter than a drum. He swore he was ok, untill he realised the blood gushing from his head had made it all the way down to his pants. It was very scary, the disc missed me by a couple of inches! That dude got aced, hardcore....

No blood for me...my cult-supporting hat (as well as a nearby tree) softened the blow. I don't even think I had much of a bruise since it hit me right where the bill of the hat connects to the rest of the hat. It still knocked me flat on my arse and I was like "What the f**k was that?"

We have now entered the final week and the park is ready for play. The current forecast is calling for sunny days with highs in the upper 50's to low 60's and lows in the upper 40's. I am sure it will change by the weekend and I am predicting mid to lower 60's for the highs. Perfect golf weather.
TitleDisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com/Events/PineyWoodsProAm06.php) will be taking signups for a couple of more days and I will be taking registeration Friday from 1:00PM until 7:00PM and Saturday Morning from 7:00AM until around 9:00AM. The 9:00AM may stretch if I can get some assistance in taking signups while we go through the rules. I will be posting holes by 9:25 and the two minute warning will ring out by 9:43AM.
DOUBLES: Double signups will be taken Friday from 1:00PM until 4:00PM. I can take them later than that if you don't mind finishing in the dark, but that is up to you. As of today, my intent is to have the doubles play the Blue course short tees/long pins. Challenging, but not so bad that it cannot be finished before the dark.
Lunch can be purchased Saturday morning. We have a local chef offering to make sandwiches for those interested. The cost right now includes a large sandwich with either turkey, ham or roast beef and a cheese of your choice. A bag of chips and a candy bar. You can fill out your menu Saturday morning and they will be prepared and delivered at lunch. The cost will be $7 which is a little high, but the chef is promising a sandwich large enough to choke a horse.

I am talking to Jennifer Allen about coming down from Norman and we have a couple of local women that will not sign up until Friday or Saturday. However......
Last year the Open women champion took $281 home, considering there were only 2 Open women last year, that is a fairly decent payout. I am hoping we have a few more this year and will provide a full color Star Mini to all Women Open players regardless of pre-registeration. I know it is not much, but pretty much I am leaving the money in for payout. :)

First the bad news :(, I guess the one thing that always goes wrong before a tournament has occurred, my 14 year old broke his leg yesterday, practicing in JV Soccer. I just got back from the hospital (5:45AM) where he and I spent the night. Fortunately it was not a compound fracture, but it was the larger shin bone in his right leg. He is thinking that he will not be able to play the tournament. I suggested that I could drop him back in one of our wooded holes and he could spot, but I don't think he found the humor in it while waiting for the hospital to administer pain killer. This means that we should have clear sailing from here on out!
Several things, first I may have been wrong about filling. I have received calls from all over the nation about entering the tournament. Chicago, Minnosota, San Diego, Tulsa, OKC, If you are coming from far away, please save yourself a little trouble and pre-register. I have not recevied the latest batch from TitleDisc, but I am thinking that over half my spots are already pre-registered. To pre-register select the link here Pre-register at TitleDisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com/Events/PineyWoodsProAm06.php) If it comes down to it I will run 5 man cards, but only for the players that had to travel any distance. I don't think it will fill, but if you call I am going to go from telling you "no" to "I don't know". I could of course be wrong.
Next, the CFR discs are going well. The star plastic generally sells for $17 and for just $8 more you can pick up a great disc with a super stamp and help to sponsor this event. If you are interested in buying a tournament disc grab me when you get to the park. I would not suggest Saturday morning, that time may be a little busy :)
See everyone in 4 or 5 days (that does include today since it is early yet)

Play it again has the highest prices of anywhere I know. I usually don't buy a disc there unless I absoultely must have it in a pinch. I was getting my star disc online for $13.99. I certainly don't expect that price at tourneys of coarse...

I dont guess I understand your comment about being glad to pay $17 for a disc to make this event happen. Don't get me wrong. Star is more expensive than Champion for the TD to purchase.
Should they sell both at the same price ?
I dont guess I understand your comment about being glad to pay $17 for a disc to make this event happen. Don't get me wrong. I understand the logistics of discs sales with tournament cost and etc. etc. I figure you were more or less trying to be peppy about the situation. All you had to say was, "geez, I am excited about this tourny."
lets be real for a second. If we take away the potential to generate " some " revenue via plastic sales, we will no longer have tournamnets to play nation wide. Very simple concept to grasp. Without profit from plastic sales, nobody would re-up their inventory. Nobody is going to provide us with their services , if they do not receive anything in return.

Sorry, guys, I simply had not looked at the retail list and the last time I bought one it was $17. So let me restate....
CFR Discs are a great deal, with Star plastic going for $15, the additional $10 helps to raise money for this great event.
By the way, I am very reasonable, and payouts are always good......
I have to agree with infin. I was a little upset when I played in a mace tourney (I believe) and the price went up from 15 to 16 on star plastic. I didn't expect to see star's for $17 until 2008. humm

I booked a hotel room for my wife and I, even though we have 18 acres in Athens. Stupid shallow well is dry right now, or we'd probably have the entire omb-vs-ygb crew staying there. As it is, I dunno how many of us are going to make it. There are money concerns for at least a few that I know of. If nothing else, our entire group will be on the sponsors list :)

Dec 05 2006, 04:30 PM
I was tired when I typed my concern about filling this morning. I don't think we will fill, but if you do I will run some 5 man cards.
However, I cannot take registeration past 9:20 or so. I really believe the problem will not be filling, but late registeration. Sorry, I had numbers blurring and double crossing in my mind when I got in from the hospital. Please try and register Friday evening if you do not pre-register. I will not turn players away that have to drive to get here.
Well, if the sponsorship is all omb-ygb has to offer , thats cool. All of us @ the tournament do appreciate it .
The group out there seems like a lot of fun.........
Different for shure, but fun. Steven Parker cracks me up! He is one funny/bitter guy, let him know I found one of his starfires. Got it @ the casa, I will bring it to Tyler and get it to somebody heading back your direction.

We'll offer more than that... I predict an OMB/YGB win for at least one division. Our OMBs have been representing the club well this year. If we could make it in full force, we'd cover at least 3 of the top 5 spots in lots of divisions...
If nothing else, we'll definitely talk more smack than any other club :D

You have some competition out in west texas, I think they called their little group TEAM DISC GOLF SUCKS . Quite a loud and obnoxious bunch those guys are. I would be suprised if any of them are old enough to buy beer. Ask anybody that was there for the awards ceremony @ Crowley last weekend. Very interesting.
baldguy
Dec 05 2006, 05:18 PM
Anyone at the Crowley rewards ceremony will remember that we chalked up yet another OMB win :D. Goold ol' Jack won another one. Between Jack Tabor, Steve Parker, Gary Watts and the rest... a bet on our guys is a safe bet.
Now, if we can get our entire MA1 crew out the the Piney Woods Open, you might see some real amateur domination from our little group. You'll at least see us taking home some plastic :) Give us a couple years and there may even be some hard cash coming back home with us :D

We are just about ready for everyone to come to East Texas. I put an order in for nice temperatures and it looks like we are going to get it, considering it is mid December. Bring your thermals for Friday night-Saturday Morning, but after that it will be in the high 50's and on Sunday in the low 60's. Temperatures are supposed to drop to 26 on Saturday morning, but rapidly coming back up after the early morning. After that the low's should be in the low 40's. It should be very nice.
Remember that all pre-registered Open players will be receiving a full color Star Mini.
Ya'll have a good weekend. Hopefully I'll get to stop by and say HI to everyone.

Ankles suck! - Chris, get one of the "Air Cast" type braces, they are amazing! I have had a couple total ankle blow-outs and these supports allowed me to get back to playing (Ultimate) fast. They allow some "up & Down" movement so you can walk but will not let the foot roll over. They will support the "pivot" motion as well.
Hope it heals fast.

plAYers lIsT . . . . . . .
Sorry, I cannot get the player's list up tonight. I am too busy to pull it together, but it is now official I have more pre-registered players then I had in the tournament last year. I am trying to put packages togeher, get all the TD supplies in one location, pack the truck, breal apart the basket to take to the course for putting, tabulating the CTP's to figure out how best to divy it up, chiecking the list to see who has been naughty and nice, etc., etc,. etc. My current count is over 83. I am thinking my guess of 120 is too low

I have played 4 or 5 time's since the OO OCT,28/29 and every time my Drive's were perfect and my putt's were well off......I am very inconsistent right now, I played a 3 round tournament last week and we played the same course all 3 time's and I shot 58--48--54

Go you Bitner boyzzz!
Y'all have fun this weekend while I toil away on stupid unrealistic deadlines promised weeks ago :(
I really want to come play...missed last year getting prepared for the big (bad) move outta Austin & now have to spend the weekend digging, drilling holes & fabricating a roof for a very unappreciative & demanding client
Y'all stay warm & remember...putt w/authority!

Current registered players are on-line, for doubles, we did not have enough Open teams to matter. Amateur we had 10 teams with Dave Landis/ Daryl Fry taking first with a 50, edging out three other teams tied for second at 51.
More tomorrow night.....

How can a 941 raetd player play intermidiate?
good question
was 100 players the final total???
Alacrity
Dec 09 2006, 09:03 PM
He is rated 941, but has received a waver. If you look at his rating history you will see it appears the layouts are wrong for the one event he has a rating on. The PDGA competive director believes the online rating maybe in error and will be corrected with the next ratings update. For these reasons he was given a waver.
