Texas Team Championships Circle R Disc Golf Ranch
Wimberley, Texas
Saturday & Sunday - November 18th & 19th, 2006 (the weekend before Thanksgiving)

The Concept:
Every course in Texas is invited to send a team. Teams may also represent schools or other organizations. Some courses send more than one team.

The Format:
Teams compete head-to-head, so when A-Town plays B-Ville, A-Towns #1 plays B-Villes #1, A-Towns #2 plays B-Villes #2etc. The team that wins the most individual matches gets the victory.

Rounds are 9 holes, and its all match play, so its not your total score that counts its how many holes you win.

Most teams will play 4 rounds on Saturday and 2-3 rounds on Sunday.

Entry Fee:
$45 per player. Every player gets a tournament sweatshirt, a tournament disc, and free lunch on Sunday. Camping is free for Texas Team Championships.

Team Makeup:
There are two divisions Emerging and Established

Emerging (smaller towns and newer courses) 6 Players:
3 Advanced
3 Intermediate

Established (bigger cities and older courses) 9 Players:
2 Pro
2 Advanced
2 Intermediate
1 Pro Master
1 Amateur Woman
1 Swing Player (Pro Woman, Grand Master, or Advanced Master)

Payout:
No cash, no prizes. Its all for team pride and fun. There will be trophies for the top teams

Hey guys, I'm gonna try to set up a Real Ale brewery tour (in Blanco) while I'm up for Texas Teams. The website says by appointment only. I'm off Friday I'm gonna try to do it then. Anybody else interested? Or....Mitch, maybe you could set something up in conjunction with the tournament. I know you and Patty dig their brews.

I'll give Gabriel a call over at Real Ale & see what we can come up with. Maybe a 'Disc Golfer Tour'. I believe the new place is still under construction, however it's quite impressive. The bottling machines they had sent over from Germany look cool, but I don't think they have 'em up and running yet.

I'll keep ya posted.

This just in******************************

FPO's with a player rating less than 850 can play in the FW1 spot for Teams(even if they have taken cash)

the new ratings will be out soon

Why the change and who picked the arbitrary rating of 850? This would only affect four FPO players:

Gail Repka
28934 TX USA 842 F Pro
Regina Estrada
20247 TX USA 834 F Pro
Patty Justice
15218 TX USA 821 F Pro
Mary McGough
19810 TX USA 820 F Pro

Why not leave it the way it has always been and fill the FW1 with true Ams????? The 850 rating change really screws these players:

Emily Brown 27039 TX USA 853 F Pro
Laura Coffey 21102 TX USA 852 F Pro

I'm sure Laura and Em are playing pro regardless, but it seems a little fishy.....my .02

tbender
Sep 26 2006, 03:15 PM
The 850 mark is the PDGA's guideline for FPO's to play FW1, just like 955 is the cutoff for MPO's to play MA1.

suemac
Sep 26 2006, 03:17 PM
You left out 2x Advanced Master World Champ, D'Atra Hunter. It is the policy of PDGA that Pro Women can't go back down to play as an am if their rating is over 850 once they have accepted cash. It's the rule. Nothing arbitrary about the 850 number.

suemac
Sep 26 2006, 03:20 PM
And BTW, very few Pro Ladies actually get to play, unless playing the Intermediate mens slot, as the swing position is generally filled by an advanced master or pro grand master man. Those guys divisions provide stronger players to fill that slot.

Maybe next year an avenue will be provided that allows more participation from the ladies.

justice
Sep 26 2006, 03:41 PM
Thanks for posting that list, Jon. I think that ALL Texas women are affected by that <850 mark (depending on how you look at it).

It is not an arbitrary number, however.
Check out the 'Pros Playing Am' section at the bottom of this chart:
2006 Players Division Grid (http://www.pdga.com/documents/td/06PlayerDivisionsGridFinal.pdf)

It is a PDGA standard.

I happen to know for a fact that Lala would never play down, even if her rating said she could.
/msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The question had come up a couple weeks ago (about if FPOs could bag down if their rating was below 900 even if they had cashed), and the decision was to follow the PDGA guidelines/standards which happens to be <850.

Don't worry...about me anyway....I have retired from playing TTC (I 'Team-momed' both Waterloo teams last year into 2nd & 3rd place & will be taking care of all my H20 kids again this year!)

WATERLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :D

The verdict isn't in on whether or not Houck is going to ALLOW proturn to bag down in emerging. Just doesn't seem right, when they didnt allow a Georgetown/Rivery team to play in that division last year. Those guys are just as skilled as the RR folks who were going to play as Rivery. Just my opinion.

And the excuse you can't find a girl, just don't hunt in these parts. :D

if you could see my play right now, you wouldnt worry about 1 point difference in INT/ADV. ill still be team capt. to get my free disc but we found another INT who will fill my spot for INT2. kinda funny how my rating can go up without playing golf since 05-05.

Past Established winners have been Lewisville, Arlington A (2 or 3 times), Live Oak B*, and ???

perhaps another approach would serve them better!!

He's a hard worker who knows how to use a dual seeding machine!

But don't tell John.....he thinks he does it all by himself with some super secret rankings formula. :p

Seeding Waterloo in easy brackets? What, were we in a bracket with three Round Rock Teams or something?

Seriously, that is pretty freaking lame.

btw, both times we made it to the finals, we were in the mixmasters. So, y'alls seeding whining is baseless, not to mention disrespectful to the event coordinators.

You guys have fun. This year there is to much conflict in the Tyler team to get anything organized. Probably a good thing that Jeremy the Dragon Slayer is not going to be there anyway.

Is there any rhyme or reason behind the seeding or is it all up to Waterloo???

Waterloo controls the disc golf universe.

This year, the two Waterloo teams are automatically in the semifinals and all the rest of the teams will battle for the opportunity to get their butts handed to them. Don't bother complaining to John Houck. He is under Waterloo's mind control. Disagree and die.

Times have changed guys, but none of you will be around to see it. (insert smiley here) :DYou'll all be heading home, hitting the board on Monday morning to see what happened. (insert embarrassed smiley here) :o
There's also a trophy given out to the team that talks the most chit. You'll have to come to the RR camp to pick that one up though.(insert shocked smiley here)

Round Rock Team 1, come get u some. T2 & T3 made it back from Alpine this weekend

I hope on the way back, y'all got to stop and do a little stargazing. It's November and the dragon constellation can be seen very early in the morning, still full of life and hope, but as the daylight breaks, it gets difficult to see and by afternoon, it is well into its journey home. The greeks named the constellation "quinceaspire." The rough translation is "He who aspires to fifth."

On another note, where the hell is Team Live Iowa, no smack talking from them?

We interrupt this program to make a special announcement:

O.K.....I have a team that needs a Pro Master spot filled, and no Pro Masters on the wait list. The captain says, they don't have to be PRO, just over 40.
If you know anyone over 40 looking to play, please have them call Circle R at 877-833-1227.

Thanks.....

You may now return to your regularly scheduled smack talking... :)

Round Rock and Z-Boaz, Talk your smack! Your teams may look good on paper, but it only matters who actually brings their game. We have the best sub-900 golfers in Austin on Waterloo, and they always bring it for Teams. You guys enjoy the mix-master while we sleep in. :D

Captain Lou....

JH is working on it as we speak. We had 2 more teams register yesterday so, adjustments have to be made. Everything should be announced by the end of the day (still over 11 hours till the end :p)

Here's a bone:

8am Players' Meeting
8:30 Tee Off

DISClaimer: These times are subject to change and are not official until Mr. John Houck makes his official announcement.
