The Waterloo tournament is finally full, and a waitlist has been started. If you would like to be on the waitlist, just email me at gordon@ventbird.com, call me (512-858-0119 area code probably needed), or send me a PM. I just need your name and phone number (division and pdga number are nice, but not necessary).
If we have cancellations and you clear the waitlist before the tournament arrives, Ill get in touch with you to let you know. Otherwise, all you have to do is show up at Waterloo Park on Saturday morning by 8:30 am (tournament HQ is the wooden deck at 13th and Trinity). Dont be late because at 8:30 check-in for the players is over and anyone not checked in will be dropped and well fill the spots with folks on the waitlist.
If you sent in a registration but havent received your confirmation letter (by email or us mail), please get in touch with me right away
I'll post a revised player's list tomorrow and a 'waitlist list' on Monday.

Anyone from Dallas want to ride down there.
I am either looking for a ride and a place to stay
or
1 can ride with me and we can split/share a place to stay
or
I at least need a place to stay (floor space is cool with me)
I plan on leaving Friday morning if possible. (however, if someone want to split costs, I will leave whenever)
It would cost me $55 (round trip) just for gas to drive down by my self. I would like to cut that in half. Then you get into motel costs. I prefer to find floor space, (free is cool) But have no problem chipping in for floor space (or even a bed) at a motel.
For the Texas 10 finals, I managed to split gas and motel with 2 others, it only cost me about $30 for the trip (I slept in the window :D)
SO, anyone from the DFW area want to split some costs????
(anyone from Austin willing to give me floor space if I have to drive myself down???)
worst comes to worst, I will be looking when I get there. (the way I use to do it back in the old days)

You mentioned Chile dropped out....has his spot already been filled by someone on the waitlist? And has their been any consideration of putting five on a card to accomodate the individuals who are on the wait list? If you already have 5 on a card, and there's no way to get into the tourney, I would like to volunteer...I remember Gordo saying the volunteers were meeting this week, but I can't recall when and where? Does anyone know....?
gordonmk
Oct 17 2006, 12:14 PM
We will be using the 18 baskets we bought from San Saba for the tournament. However, we could certainly use some extra muscle to help get them out on the course each morning and back in each night.
Jon, your dolly would be a great help, please bring it. Thanks! :)
We are aiming to be at the park unloading the uhaul starting about 10 am on Friday, extra help is always appreciated. Then we'll get the deck set up and the baskets and tee markers out on the course. Doubles will start at 1 pm, so the course has to be up and verified by then (but hopefully it will be earlier).
On Saturday, park arrival time is scheduled for 6 am, so we can be up and running by late check-in at 7:30 am.
On Sunday morning, we get to sleep in :D We dont have to be at the park until 7am.

Jon, check your PM for the work night note.

Things you need to know about Waterloo:
Tournament Check-In:
Waterloo Park is located in downtown Austin. It is bordered by E.15th, Red River, E.12th, and Trinity. Tournament HQ is on the wooden deck near Trinity & E.13th.
This is VERY IMPORTANT! Everyone registered for the main tournament must check-in either Friday October 20th between 1 pm and dark, or Saturday morning October 21st between 7:30 am 8:30 am. Anyone not checked in by 8:30 am on Saturday will be dropped from the tournament and the spot will be filled by someone on the waitlist. The tournament is too popular, too fun, and usually has too big a waitlist to let a spot go unclaimed. If you are on the waitlist, you must be at tourney HQ at 8:30 am. If your name is called and you arent there, we go to the next person on the list.
Please try to check in on Friday, as it will make Saturday morning go much more smoothly if we dont have as many people to run through the process.
Everyone playing the main tournament will receive a great players package, with NO money being taken from the entry fees to cover the costs.
Doubles:
Friday October 20th, flex start 1 pm 4:30/5:00 -ish. Open to everyone, $10 per person, bring your own partner. We will have to stop accepting teams around 4:30 5 pm, so that everyone who starts will be able to finish before dark. Results will be posted as soon as possible on Saturday. Awards for doubles will be ready by lunch on Sunday the 22nd. Leave contact info when signing up if you wont be around on Sunday. Last year, we pushed over 60 teams through on Friday, so the course plays fairly quickly. Show up early for the best chance to play, dont wait until late in the afternoon and take a chance on being turned away. Cards will be limited to 2 teams to keep things flowing smoothly.
You can play more than once, but you must play in a different division AND with a different partner. (no more will one team take 1st and 2nd, or 1st in both open and masters ).
-----------------------------------------------------------
LATE BREAKING NEWS:
We will have a fajita lunch available for purchase on Saturday for $5. There will probably be things like chips, beans, etc along with the fajitas.
No UT football game this Saturday, YEA!!!
No Rolling Stones fans parking at the garages and catching the buses to the concert, YEA!!!
----------------------------------------------------------
Directions and Parking for Waterloo:
Waterloo Park is located in downtown Austin. It is bordered by E.15th, Red River, E.12th, and Trinity. Tournament HQ is on the wooden deck near Trinity & E.13th. If you are coming from IH-35, head towards downtown. Take the E.15th Street exit. Go west (turn left if you are driving north, right if you are driving south). The next traffic light is Red River, you will see the park on your left (the Erwin Special Events Center is on your right).
If you are headed for the parking garage, go two more blocks and turn left on San Jacinto. San Jacinto is a One-Way street going south. Go two blocks and turn left on E. 13th, the entrance to the garage is immediately on your left. You can also enter this same garage from Trinity, right across from the deck (Trinity is a One-Way street going north). Be sure to read parking info below - we don't want anyone getting ticketed or towed.
Parking should not be too difficult this weekend. On Friday, the state parking garages on Trinity, across the street from the park, will not be available until after 5 pm. On Saturday and Sunday all of the garages will be available for free parking. For other parking, there is a small lot in the park that will be free all 3 days (enter off of 12th Street - but it doesnt hold too many cars). There are also parking meters on Red River, 12th, 13th, and 14th streets, and some on Trinity and Brazos. You will have to pay the meters on Friday until about 5 or 6 pm, but they should be free the rest of the weekend (be sure to check the actual meter for exact times you must pay).
Charity Fundraising:
We will have a huge raffle and silent auction. Typically our raffle has over $1,000 worth of prizes. The silent auction will have all sorts of great things from the small, to the large, to the really cool collectible. One item will be one of the original Zilker Baskets. Proceeds from the raffle and auction go to fundraising, so bring lots of extra cash and your check book. Raffle tickets will drawn during the 4th round on Sunday afternoon, so you can buy them all the way up until the start of that round. Winning numbers will be posted by the end of the round, and you can collect your prizes anytime after that. You do not need to be present to win a raffle prize. If you arent going to be there Sunday afternoon, just put your name and phone number on the back of the ticket and we will contact you after the tournament. Bidding on the silent auction items will end when shortly before we start the awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon.
We will have a free lunch for all players on Sunday October 17th, right after the morning round. It will be held in the courtyard of the Ronald McDonald House, and will be hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, sodas/water and all the fixings. You can also take a tour of the RHM if you wish. The lunch is free and part of the tournament, but we will be accepting donations for the charity in a big tip jar. Please remember to thank the cook and helpers too.
We will also be collecting canned goods and household products/items all weekend for the Ronald McDonald House. These will be used by the families that stay at the house. We will have a big box for collection, so please go through your pantry and bring out some stuff.
The Ring-of-Fire will be held Saturday afternoon, immediately before the 2nd round (about 2:30). It is $2 to play, and all proceeds go to the fundraising. You can sign up at check-in, or all the way up to the time we start it. Ring-of-Fire is a series of putting games, and it is really fun to play. It is also fun to watch, so even if you arent playing, stick around to see it.
Mulligans: Before the tournament or before any of the rounds, you may purchase mulligans for $1 each (you may not purchase them during a round). You will receive one ticket for each mulligan purchased. Take these tickets with you on the rounds. You may buy as many as you want (sorry, tournament players only), but you can only use 1 mulligan per round. Mulligans can only be used on drives, not on upshots or putts. When you want to use your mulligan, you must declare it to the whole group immediately after your drive. You then take out one of your tickets, tear it in half, and re-drive before anyone else in the group drives (be sure to keep the half of the ticket that has the number on it we will give away some prizes later). You must take this second shot no matter what, even if it is worse than the first.
Miscellaneous:
The Tayloe Toe Throw contest will be on Sunday afternoon, right before the 4th round (about 1:30). It is free to everyone who wants to play, and well have some prizes for the longest throws. Great to watch as well; very silly, very fun!
Phew!

I especially liked playing on the San Saba baskets. I don't understand how (it's already off the charts), but this tournament keeps getting better every year. Keep up the good work.

First of all thanks to Gordon, Roger and crew for another great WATERLOOOOOO. I don't know how much you paid for the weather, but it was worth it. Thanks to James, Matt, Kansas, Jimbo, Mark, Big Bird, Stimpy, Richard, AK, Ana, Shannon and Queen Dee for making the rounds great. Looking forward to next year. :)

Well, I'm finally coming out of my post-tournament hibernation :D
However, I'm also swamped at work with a lot of catch-up stuff to do, so it will probably take a few days to get to all the questions and info.
First, just let me say THANKS!!!!!!!! to all the great staff that made this year's Waterloo possible:
Mitch Justice did a great job scoring (and while playing too).
Lou Moreno also played but helped out a ton before, between, and after rounds.
Sheldon Parker played for the first time in years, and helped out during the weekend.
And all three of them did a lot of work leading up to the tournament, and some on Monday and yesterday too.
Roger Allen, Stevo Barnes, Randon Dillingham, Dave McKinney, and Brad Granier all gave up the chance to play in order to work their butts off all weekend; and they worked before and after the tournament too.
Matthew Rogers and Tony Hernandez even came all the way from Houston to staff. :D
Others who made it all possible by spotting and helping out on the deck and in other ways were: Rick McNutt, Kevin & Debbie Simmons, Bree Smith, David ? (Bree's boyfriend), Chris Ware, Vinnie Miller, Chuck Conley, Jon Peacock.
Doc and his assistant Bill Barker did a wonderful job on the lunches both days.
And finally, a lot of folks showed up early and stayed late to help us get baskets out each morning and back in each night, get the uhaul loaded and unloaded, and the deck all set up. Thank you so much, it is very appreciated!
Waterlooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :D

after paring hole 1 in the second round, I came upon dave asking for donations on hole 2.
I dug through my bag and could only find a $5 bill. so I stuck it in and finished the round with 8 birds and no bogies.
That was my best round of the tournament. Maybe I should have stuck more money in each round :o

Still doing lots of figuring, but the silent auction brought in at least $1800.
$234 from Sunday's lunch
about $2000 from the Father Dave McC-Note Challengers
$57 from people putting $ into Father Dave's pouch during the 2nd round.
$518 from player entry fees ($1 per person per round, including doubles)
And it just keeps adding up :D

Fundraising total for the weekend: $7,700 :D
Most of this will go to the Austin Ronald McDonald House $6,350
The rest will go into the clubs Course Improvement Fund $1,350
This should be more than enough to cover the cost of the Pease Park Tee Signs that well be doing before next years COTO tournament.
Thank you to all the sponsors, players, and staff who made it all possible!
Dont forget, you can save your spot in the 30th Waterloo Disc Golf Classic, October 19-21, 2007 by sending in your Father Dave McC-Note Challenge now. Make your check or money order payable to WDGC, and mail it to WDGC, PO Box 33531, Austin, TX, 78764. Please include your pdga # and division (you can always change your division later if you wish). A couple of people already signed up during the tournament, and more said it would be on the way soon. :)

Ive been contacted about a few items that were lost and havent turned up. If you know anything about any of these, or if you have them, please let me know so we can get them back to their unhappy owners. :(
Jeff Nintzel: White Ken Climo 8 Time World Champion Roc, I cant remember what color the stamp is (red or green?), but the bottom has markings all over it. Maybe even an X in marker. Might have Lloyd Sitkoffs name on it.
Wade Kolb: Sony camera
Matthew Rogers: golf bag
