There are 4 Kansas boys that have a legit shot at winning this mother if you ask me. Don't let their ratings fool you.

Watch out for Nate Martin, Robert Hammersmith, Tracy Ruder, and Jake Newell. These guys all have game enough to bring home the title.

Everyone can wait an see, but if I won the US Am Championships, what satisfaction whould I gain from not moving up? Hmmmmm - Robert (and I don't know him personally) should already be in open, and his game appears to have stalled b/c of it.

< 19 champ - JoJo's playing some good golf, and he would be my favorite.
< 16 champ - Bougher's the highest rated player, on his home courses, and can putt better any 16 y/o.
< 13 - Ahh hell, NC will likely be able to brag about this, but next.

Adv - Let's hope the Okies bring their game b/c three players have a shot, and I would imagine OK will have three top 20 finishes, maybe 4. Although, I would wager that it would be Wagle to catch the fourth spot, not Allen.

The "Evil Empire" will be well represented by its young group of extremely talented players.

About cheating, I hope that is not the case, but keeping everyone honest is a smart idea. My partner and I stroked ourselves at Am Dubs b/c of a mistake, and it felt much better than cheating and getting away with it.

Good luck Mills... It will be nice to see you finally play the Am Worlds you have long awaited.

I think that you should probably worry more about you own game.

Hammer has not, and will not cheat. I am 100% sure of that. I have played many rounds with him, and it has never been an issue.

I think it is pretty bold to try and call him out like that.

All I know is that the USADGChampion has nothing but good things to say about him.

With all that said, while your keeping an eye on people. You may want to watch out for Tracy Ruder. That dude can work some magic with a putter.

Mr. Mills.....I bet money that whomever said that (if it was said at all) definately DIDN'T play on my card at Am Nationals, because the people I played rounds with were some great and classy golfers. That means YOU were NOT on my card! If I remember correctly, weren't you the one being accused of cheating? A group of people were saying you a cheater, and not knowing you, I said why would someone cheat at AmNationals? That's as close to "cheating" as I've ever been....

Also, weren't you the loudmouth saying that you were going to put a -9 down on the toboggan, AFTER you shot 7 over? I don't even know you dude, but try running your mouth on the course with your GAME....Not with your KEYBOARD!

Joseph,

You should check your stats again. You've never beat Jake Newell or myself. You tied me at the Doo-Dah (Jake stomped everyone,) and the 1st and 4th rounds were the ABSOLUTE WORST ROUNDS OF GOLF I've ever played in my career. I would definately bragg about tieing me on my worst tournament ever. Aside from that, Jake IS one of the best tournament players in the country. The cool thing about Kansas golfers is that they show up to play, have a good time, meet other cool golfers, and usually have a good finish. Tracy and Nathan are top notch golfers as well as classy individuals too!

And finally,

If you are so dang good and can talk all this smack on the Top Advanced Players, what the heck are you doing in the under 19 division? You publically said you were scared when you signed up...Good luck beating 19 people in your division...We'll have fun competing against the 235 entrants in Advanced

How about instead of talking crap to a 17 year old kid (who I have never met either) you work on your game and start playing pro. In any Professional sport, an athlete receives payment for their performance, as opposed to amateur sports and college sports where athletes do not. Media and increased leisure bring large audiences, so that sports organisations or teams can payout large incomes. As a result, more athletes can make their athletic talent their primary career, devoting training time necessary to increase skill, physical condition and experience to higher levels of competition. When was the last time you watched a disc golf tournament on ESPN? When was the last tournament with a purse of $4,000,000.00 Almost every week there is a PGA event with at least 4 MILLION dollars in the purse....

Right now, your tournament cash average is $30.48 (41 tournaments, $1250 cash - rounded UP!) That makes me want to jump right into professional disc golf baby! SHOW ME THE MONEY!! Either you are rich or crazy, because I'd have to sell my house to drive to tournaments and never make any money. Disc golf is NOT my favorite sport, and if it was just a decision to "go pro" I wouldn't do it in disc golf, I'd play PGA, MLB or Nascar; they pay real money!...bad thing is it is NOT a decision, you have to be good.. Last place at the John Deer Classic paid out $7,200. When last place at a Pro Disc Golf tournament pays even the entry fee back, give me a call. Until then, you do your hobbies and I'll do mine.

My responses

1. Yeah you know what, I'm not a "Cashing pro" Every now and then I have a good weekend and get some cash. One time I Was even fortunate enough to win a pro event. The reason I continue to play tournaments that I will undoubltly lose money at half of the time, is b/c they are fun. The reason I moved up to pro is b/c dominating advanced golf to me was not fun - I enjoy the challenge of the game. Obviously, you don't. You care about winning, money and all that crap that ruins this country. Personally, I would rather get my ***** Whipped in pro losing 150 dollars in entry, gas and misc expenses then shoot the same scores and get third place in advanced.

2. LAst place in the John Deere classic recieved nothing. There is a cut in golf. IF you want to ever argue anything, might want to use a little logic. I've been a sports writer for 4 years, I think I know a little more than you do on the subject, as proved by your last post.

This is the AM worlds Smack Talk thread...you said you beat me and you didn't. If you played bad at the Doo-Dah also, then you are even better than I thought, and should definately win <19. Best of luck man, I don't know anyone else in that division so I'll root for YOU!! Plus, You've been playing just as long as I have except you didn't start playing at age 24. You won 7 tournaments out of 60 attempts. Actually, your average finish in the Advanced division is 11.63. Lets just round that to 12th place. I hardly consider that dominating.... I have 3 career PDGA wins and 2 of those have been this year. That's not dominating either...

I know there is a cut in golf. Thanks for knowing that. There will be a test at the end of this thread. Also, congrats on being a free lance sports writer for 4 years now. I was unable to find a single online article you wrote...I was actually a little disappointed.

It's not "money and all that crap that ruins a sport or this country" as you previously stated. Its people like you. I go to tournaments, have fun competing, have fun meeting new people, enjoy seeing new places and new courses, and the part that ruins it is that what I do for fun somehow upsets people like you. It upsets you that I can go to a tournament, rarely win, do well in 1 tournamnet (Am Nationals 2005) and all of a sudden you decide to knock me personally because YOU think i'm such a good golfer. You should be a disc golf scout, like the major leagues, instead of a free lance sports writer. Your "way with words" will surely get millions of amateur players around the world to go pro!

I dont have to prove myself as a journalist, but if you go to www.theeastcarolinian.com (http://www.theeastcarolinian.com) and search for "Robert Leonard" you will find close to 90 hits.

Many of those articles you will find were also published on www.collegesports.com (http://www.collegesports.com) the largest college sports website in the world and one of which was published on yahoo.com in the sports section. I don't have the links at my office, but I will be glad to send those to you since you will probably not believe me.

Oh, look heres a PUBLISHED article right here on this website. http://www.pdga.com/news/articles/a-012.php

And oh my god, look, another! http://www.pdga.com/news/articles/a-011.php

You've only had one good tournament - am nationals. Then I guess your win at the KC WIde Open wasn't good.

And you are right, I only had 7 wins and I probably did average 11.348573489573498347598 place or whatever you found it to be, but take out the first year and a half when I probably could have been playing intermediate and see what you get. After am worlds (Where I finished 26th) to April of 2005 I had no finish worse than 6th (excluding 9th in the am world doubles where my parter injured himself before the last round - we were in 3rd going to that round). In NC where competition in every division is extremly tough, I call that a very successfull am career.

My whole point is yeah you may not want to go pro b/c theres no money yada yada but it is the exact same thing! I still have just as much fun playing pro as I did am regardless of whether I cash or not. Obviously you could not. Baggers like yourself cause others to not have fun and ruin the game for those people. I'm from the state of the legendary Chris Lee - I know all about baggers and what they do to tournaments.

Do your area a favor, do your game a favor and move up. If you are in this sport for money, stop playing. If you don't enjoy this sport, stop playing.

Well I heard the kid cheated at Nationals last year so If I play with him you better believe my EYES will be in full force!!!

I was told this by a player who played in his group so I wouldnt say its bold at all.........Im just stating what I was told by a member of his group!!! Oh and Tracy Ive never cheated in a tournament in my life.........Actually I stroked myself at Brent Hambrick last year for playing the course out of order when the other guys in my group didnt even want to say anything about it.........All I know is I cant wait to get to Tulsa and see how my game stacks up!!!

Im very sorry I said anything about you........I was in a sour mood that day and let it get the best of me.......Ive never met your or even spoke to you and im sorry I said anything..........You want to know what people were calling me a cheater.........It was because I called a kid out on the RULES of disc golf and he ended up playing like crap when I did.......He was taking almost a minute on EVERY SINGLE SHOT so I called him out on it and then I was made to look like the A HOLE because he could play well when he had to follow the rules!!! So now that thats all cleared up let me clear up one more thing.........I said a -9 was IMPOSSIBLE on that course if you relating it to par 54........That was someone else who said that and I believe they were talking about the best round that could ever be posted on the course relative to par 54..........Im sorry I said anything but now you have just gone and did the same thing I did to try and get back at me..........How about we just call it a day put it behind us and ill buy you 2 beers in Tulsa since two of their beers has about he same alcohol as one of the beers in the states we are from..........See you in Tulsa and dont worry ill let me game do the talking!!!

You are right, I don;t know what bagging is.

I'm from a state and the city where Chris Lee lives. He won 23 ( i think) adv tournaments and finished top 10 at am worlds at least twice, maybe three times, won a world doubles title and won 9 baskets from tournaments.
Players would show up to tournaments wanting to play advanced and see Chris was playing advanced and either leave or play pro.

There was a freakin rule make b/c of him. He would play pro, finish high in the money and then take the winnings in plastic which was allowed. B/c of that, the PDGA made a rule about that that pretty much everyone calls the Chris Lee rule.

When there is a Coda Hatfield rule please tell me I don't know anything about baggers.

Anyone got anymore posts that are not correct or narrow minded, I'm done working and would love to have something to do until I leave at 5 EST ( I have to put EST b/c someone would undoubtly forget that there are different time zones and might think that I would have nothing to do for 2 and half hours!)

no

When I said that 2005 Am world doubles was my last am event, I meant that 2005 Am world doubles was my last am event.

This 955 crap upsets me. If you are good enough to cash in pro then that should tell you that you are better than a 955 rated golfer. Pro 2, while it failed due to lack to TD participation, was the best way to handle the "too good for am not good enough for pro" issue.

Regardless of what happens (baring major injury), you should play pro for life once you have made the plunge. To loosely quote Dr. Bob Rotella, a golf sports psyhcologist
"There is no such thing as a hot round. All that round is is a golfer living up to his full potentional. It is inpossiable for a golfer to play above his ability. The same can be said when a golfer suddenly 'looses it'. He can get it back b/c it was once there."

A list of things Robert Hammersmith will never do.

1. Understand sarcasm
2. Enjoy life
3. Think people are equal with him
4. Laugh
5. Go Pro

Jul 17 2006, 07:35 PM
Steve has just proven that character can be in anyone, and it is ok to talk just know what you're talkin about. Thanks MillZ! Good luck to you also at Worlds, maybe it will be an all Kansas & Michigan Final

Pro2 was one of the best things the PDGA did that 99% of PDGA players failed to either understand or participate in. It was not given enough time to fully blossom. It takes another TD to really explain the benefits of the Pro2 division, or just one am player that is being dominated by a 970+ rated am who doesn't want to move up before worlds.

It created a middle ground between am and pro, where players got to choose cash or plastic.

Intermediate - plastic
Advanced - plastic
Pro2 - plastic or cash
Pro - cash

Pro2 simply made a lot of people happy, baggers could be harrassed into moving into Pro2, and lower pros could do the same. ams didn't have to cash until they were ready, but they were allowing a newer group of improving ams to take the top Am spots.

sorry for the thread drift. I would like to see it brought back. It's a good program, and it would probably enjoy better participation now that it has had a few years to sink in.

Things MTL will never do.

1. Understand sarcasm
2. Enjoy helping people instead of being the basher...
3. Think people are "even capable of being" equal with him
4. Laugh
5. Let it go!

They are all wrong except maybe I'll never go pro. Especially if it keeps you from sleeping at night. In that case, I'll NEVER go pro :D
And by the way, it's ALL sarcasm! Will you put me down again? Probably. Will I respond to anything else you say? Nope, been fun though. See ya in the funny pages!

Way to copy me and then basically be like "your rude for talking smack"....yet you posted.....

This is the AM worlds Smack Talk thread...

Pot calling the kettle black or smack talker calling the message board legend / icon of smack a smack talker?

You are right, I've never helped anyone in the game b/c you know me like that. I haven't helped run 2 National tours, I haven't done online scoring and TD reports for over 20 tournaments, I haven't ran a PDGA event and I'm not going to run another in 2 months. I also have not personally taken 5 - 10 golfers under my wing and helped them and tuaght them to the point where most of them are better than me. Since you know me so well, I'm sure you, the one embarassing the name of Robert, knows that I personally just offered to teach an up and coming golfer my style of putt. I'm glad you know all of this.

In 13 1/2 years of disc golf, I have learned many things about this game. When it comes to bagging, there is one consistent theme. Either winning doesn't great or you get #$*&$! that you don't win.

Before you bring the smack talk bring a little facts to the battle. You don't bring a knife to a gun fight and you don't bring your lame arguments points and pure hypocritical arguements to an argument with me.

I think you are a big piece of

no email of the day but it was read. Back when The Heels werein the final four a year and half ago (when they won) everyone was talking about could Roy Williams win a national title.

My email...

"Jim,

Who cares if Roy wins it all. How important is a big game anyway?

Signed,
Mack Brown"

Of course this was before Mack won with Texas, still pretty funny non the less.

While on the subject, best 2 emails EVER
1. When Kobe scored 81
"Jim,
What's the big deal about scoring 81? I do it every weekend.

Signed,
David Duvall"

2. When The Steelers and Colts were getting ready for the AFC title game and Joey Porter talked about how the Steelers played hard nose football and didnt do trick plays like the Colts..

"Jim

Joey Porter was right. The Steelers don't do trick plays.

Signed,
Snap to Rothelesberger, hand off to Randel El, run acorss the field, throw back to Rothelesberger, throw to Ward in the end zone"

1. You are from Texas so you making a redneck accent joke really doesn't apply.
2. I'm not running my mouth on here, I'm running my fingers.
3. Everyone has an accent, people are just oblivious to everyone who doesn't sound like them.

Actually those orange barrels are Twoputts idea. Aside from the kickbacks he's getting from the hotel, he sells orange barrels on the side when he's not selling insurance. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Dude I choked at distance at states I couldn't even break 330" though Jen out threw alot of guys which I was impressed. I m hoppin to make the cut that would be the ultimate goal, though check out the 2004 Pro/Am in advanced it was a good division to play advanced in and I ve done alot better than the guy who got third at worlds.

I remember a few years ago seeing Jen and Kelly out at Woodson...they both drove hole #11 and took HER drive, about 40 feet short of the bucket

PaRoll, why so harsh and untrue. You and Hammer must not know MTL very well. He is the epitomy of what a pro is supposed to do in this great sport of our's. He shpws up early at all events, offers the TD help in any way, checks in cards and records scores btw rounds, assists any and all am's with their game, or refers them to the person that is profecient in a particular area. Never makes excuses for a bad shot, and keeps all around him smiling. He has a pretty good game. He brings alot to this organization, and has assisted with new courses getting started.

Praise him dude as a fellow brother.

Really? I thought only Texans were playing in Tulsa!

Didn't see the memo that these had to be serious, money-wagering picks... Chris and I both believe Ian has the game. He's a Texan and he's good. It would not be a surprise to see him in the top 8 all week long. His skill has tracked along the same lines as Matt Hall. #$*&$! kids.

My reasons for picking BIlly Lund (other than playing with him)
Tulsa resident

Oklahoma Open champ - score tied Jay Reading and beat 3 1000 + players including Chris Sprague
World Champion in doubles

I got $10 that says Jake will beat over 100 people next week...Jake has a cast on his arm, he tripped over a cable last week and broke his arm. I think that is why he is bitter with MTL. Plus Mace screwed him out of a raffle last year and he is still bitter about that too...LOL!!
