How far from the course is the Motel 6 on Josey Ln., please?

I don't know of a Motel 6 on Josey, and the closest one I can find on their site is in Addison on Beltline (not far from our favorite Hooters :D). If that is the one you're thinking of, it's about 15 minutes from Porter and about 20 from Greenbelt. If there's a different location that I just can't find, post it or PM it to me and I'll get you some better information.

Very nice explanation. I believe that is the way it should be played, assuming everyone understands it and why the rules state that this is correct. It'd be great if we could all just stay out of the water, but that would never happen.

I am sure it will be all KRYSTAL at the players meeting. MR JIM will help us out and if you mess up the first round PLAY IT AGAIN the next round differently..TRY (tone records) to pay attention and watch the (jennifer & steve) WIND out there or your LITTLE FLYER may find the drink

Motel 6 at Josey and Forest is about 4/5 miles.

A decent motel to stay at would be Rodeway Inn or Lone Star Inn.

Do not stay at Royal Inn, Guest Inn, or Delux Inn unless you like to hang out with some scary people. (this is just Carrollton Motels) You can also look at Farmers Branch

Best Western- eh, its ok
Days Inn- not bad
La Quinta- Not bad
Comfort Inn - Not bad
Holiday Inn Select- nice, but is kinda far(at635 and 35)

Then there are several motels in Addison. Just stay away from Super 8 motel.

Also, there are several Motels in Lewisville.

The two Microtels are about 15 min from the courses if you use George Bush Turnpike and spend a few bucks. (Irving and Plano)

Motel 6 at Josey and Forest is about 4/5 miles.

I see that one on the list now :D

Bryan's right... stay farther north if you can. It will be a more pleasant stay. If you're set on Motel 6, the one in Addison is about a mile closer, and it's nicer for sure.

Ok, before anyone post anything else.

Here is how we are going to play the creeks in Carrollton.

I follow the NEW rules of the PDGA, the out of bounds line is the point of where the wall meets the ground or water. We will be playing ALL the walls in bounds. This includes Jimmy Porter where the wall is verticle.

Why?? Because I said so :D

I figure there is so much OB, why penalize the player more.

So on hole #1 at Greenbelt if your drive goes over the creek and hits the wall but lands on the dry bank in the creek bed, YOU ARE OB, but you were last in bounds when you hit the wall, so you take your meter in from the edge of the wall and the grass (this is a Carrollton Rule)

At Jimmy Porter hole #3, if you throw all the way down to the basket over the creek, but hit the rocks/wall and fall into the creek, you are out of bounds where you hit the wall. Take your drop in 3, one meter in from the edge of the rocks. (Carrollton Rule)

Does that clear it up???????

Anyone who usually stays at hotels for tournaments should consider staying at Choice Hotels (Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality Inn, etc.). They have a fall and spring promotion each year for 2-3 months where every two stays gets you a free night (or 8,000 points, which gets you a free night at many of the non-uber-popular spots). That means if you stay 2 nights, you get a free night. Factor that into your per-night cost, and it makes it REALLY cheap. They have plenty of hotels that are reasonably-priced (~$60) in most places. If you are staying for more than one night in a row, though, you'd need to check in and check out each day, which can be a pain, but it's worth it, and it's easy since they usually have 2 different brands side-by-side.

Their website is:
www.choicehotels.com (http://www.choicehotels.com)

Now the problem is, will we be able to see the wall at Jimmy Porter. The weeds are pretty hight and I don't know if they are going to do anything about it before the tournament. I have several calls in to my contact with the city, but he has not called me back. (other than last week when he said he would call the mowing crew and have them clean up the courses)

Thanks for the info concerning the hotels. Usually it is just me and my son and we hit up the nearest Motel 6 as it is the cheapest. Just wanted to know which one was closest to the course. The one on Josey is $35.99 a night online reg. and the one in Addisson is $39.99. Definately try to stay away from those $60 a night hotels especially on 2 day events. :)

So the one on Josey Ln. is about how far now???

Check out Lone Star Inn (972) 245-1700

or the closest to the courses

Rodeway Inn (972) 245-9900

Rodeway Inn is new (only a year old)

Lone Star Inn use to be Red Roof Inn (an Accor motel) But I guess it went independent. They are very much like a Motel 6.

As far as Drive time from Forest/Josey. About 15 min with Traffic. You also have to drive through Farmers Branch. (don't speed and obey all traffic laws)

I can't answer your queston 100% other than they usually would. It depends on how many players show up this weekend. Usually the A flight is Pro/Adv and the B flight is Int/Rec, however I have had to move divisions before.

Took care of the printer last night. Got an epson c88+. I figured my 800 lasted 10 years, maybe I can get the same out of this one.

Just got off the phone with Sam at Innova. He is trying to get the boxes shipped Saturday. They will be in Mesquite Friday night. If we are unable to get the discs in on Saturday, we are going to ship a box of discs in from Circular Production so we have some Innova for payouts. I can always mail the baskets to the players. Sam is trying to fix this mistake (shipping ground instead of 3 day air) Hopefully they can.

Bryan, I will bring all the discs I have just in case you run short of payout. The only new basket I have I will NOT be bringing for payout, as it was part of my WORLDS CHAMPIONSHIP payout.

The glass mini's will be $8 a piece and any additional sales beyond what I require for the tournament will be added to the Piney Woods Pro-Am in December. They have the Rose City Disc Golf emblem on top, which is a basic rose with a basket making the petals. Some of them are nice looking. I sold a few at the Worlds Flymart and these are leftovers. All are legal mini's though they are a little heavy.

I did use one when I shot the hot round at Black Hawk at Worlds, not that that mean anything.

Had some fun reading last years thread. We had 66 pre registered. we have 111 right now.

We had 88 registered on Friday night. We have 111 right now.

We had 127 play last year. we already have 111 right now.

I think we are going to finish out around 162 players this year.

Anyone want to guess for a disc????????

just finished up with setting up the courses.

it was very dark tonight, no moon.

A Greenbelt, I was walking down the fairway to #6 when I saw what I thought was a cat walking to my right. As I looked closer, i thought it was a giant rat, so maybe a neutron or mustrat. I got as close as I could, as it noticed me and started to run I chased after it. I was almost on top of it when it go to the water. There was no mistaking it, it was a big old brown beaver.

Later on hole 8, I saw another cat. At least this time it was small enough to be a cat. Thought it was a black cat, then I noted the white stripe, eeeeekkk, run away, run away, it tail was straight up and down.

I was kinda jumpy at Jimmy Porter, but all I saw was a bunch of rabbits. :D

Well time to take a shower and take a nape before going out to the course. I will shoot for 2pm. I need some sleep tonight.

oh, and... 180

since I brought the new site up just a few weeks ago, we've seen an enormous amount of hits for a little DG tourney site :)

from midnight on 9-1-2006 to right now... 15255 total hits generated by 171 unique visits. In just the few days of august that the site was active, we had 10661 hits from 49 visits. that's over 25k hits, over 200 visits and over 100 MB transferred in barely 3 weeks... and the site is almost all text!

For you non-geeks out there... this means that http://www.carrolltonopen.com/ has been very busy :)

just woke up, I will be at the course at 2pm to dark taking registration and running doubles.

If you are already registered, you do not 'need' to check in. However, you need to pick up your players package. You can do that anytime I am set up out there.

BTW, Jeremy, 162 was my guess wasn't it?

And not Jerry, no cap. I will do 3 ghost cards on each course before I switch to 3 flights. I will switch to 4 flights if we hit 315 players. Now if we actually hit 420, I think I might actually turn someone away. (5 X 21 = 105 X 4 = 420)

I had a blast. I started my first tournament a year ago (give or takea few months) at carrollton, the carrollton texas 10. only having been playing for 2 weeks. now a year later carrollton again, same TD i was able to cash and take 5th. im happy with the result.

Just in case you didn't know. Barry Shultz did not come in first. Even though he tied the course record at Jimmy Porter with a 50 on the 21 hole set up.

The guy who won, also tied the course record at Jimmy Portere and then shot one stroke off the record at Greenbelt with ANOTHER 50 IN THE RAIN.

That would be Eric McCabe of Kansas.

However, it was very nice having Barry Shultz at the tournament this year. He picked a good year to show up winning $705 for 2ND PLACE.

Every player should have gotten a Little Flyer mini

Every Am and all pre registered pro's got a coupon for $9 for a disc of there choice. (they could buy up to a better is if they wanted)

Also, over 60 players got a FREE T-shirt for registering in August. That was worth over $1000

Included in those 39 CTPs was a $100 gold chain jewlery and 3 $50 CTP's

Every CTP was Worth OVER $50 with several worth a lot more.

aprx $2300+ in CTP's.

A lot of this was donated by the players themselves.

BTW, all of this was done without my 300 Innova discs that were ordered but have yet to arrive.

Innova did the right thing and overnighted a box of discs from Circular productions FOR FREE. This helped QUITE A BIT to the final payout as we were able to sell and use them for payouts.

Still the payout was a little heavy on Discraft, SO I will trade out equal cash value till October 14 Alex Cark Memorial.

Please call me first to make sure the discs are at the store and that I will be there. (I only have one employee who knows anything about discs golf)

One more thing.

Several of you guys are starting to step up and help out in little ways. Something as simple as getting ice (thanks Cory Flippen) building the web site and starting round 4 at Jimmy Porter (thanks Josh Dann) Going home and getting his basket so we didn't have to play the muddiest hole on the course PLUS getting all the Adv Masters to bring CTP donations. I think every one of them gave me at least 2 discs, some several more. (Thanks 9 X sponsor Lloyd Sitkoff)

And Jeff, what can I say, he was out at the course BEFORE I was on Friday and stayed out there handleing disc sales and running errons durring the round for me. He was the Biggest help this weekend. I can't say enough good things about him. If it were not for him, I could never have done this weekend.

Next is the 2nd best TD I know (next to me :D) The Adv Masters World Champion Jerry Power. He is a GREAT friend to show up and help out where it is needed. I can't say enough. He knows that a tournament this big needs help and he jumps in to do it.

I also want to thank all 200 players who showed up this weekend. Without you I would have slept more :D

11 years ago Tim W said he was not going to run a tournament in Carrollton again. Was not happy with the payouts at tournaments and knew I could do better. I have never wanted to profit from a tournament, just to break even. I LOVE giving basket and loads of CASH away.

I did not pay out all the profits this year. There was still money left over PLUS I still have the Alex Cark tournament to add to the kitty. So next year already has it's seed money. I plan on getting a new tent, tables and maybe some other things to make the tournament better. I will even spring for Port-a-Potties next year. If I can get 200+ players, it will be easy to fork over that $200.

Wish I'd been there yesterday but alas, my wife came down with a stomach virus and if I had showed up yesterday and left her with the kiddos, I would probably be moving out to one the courses on a more permanent basis. Looking forward to making the Memorial in October........By the way, does anyone know what the dates are?

I think that $1015 for 1st was a nice income for the weekend.

man, you were on fire Sunday in the Rain. I thought there was no way anyone would even come close to the course record and you and Barry tied Jimmy Porters in the mud and you only missed Greenbelts course record by 1 in the afternoon. (I must say i put in a temp hole number 4 because the regular #4 was undere water 15 min before the start of the 3rd round. I left it in case we got another flood in the afternoon)

Sep 18 2006, 12:43 PM
I would also like to add a special thanks to Scout Troop 114 I believe, thanks for lugging those heavy coolers around all weekend. Also, the volunteers were awesome, I have never seen sooo much lost plastic recovered! Awesome. I am sure even Barry Schultz appreciated it after his 1st drive on the last round! :)
Thanks Bryan, that round in the rain was a blast! Will be back next year! I will also bring my golf game next time :(

Things I Hope to do this year.

Give away baskets to all Am division winners (Rec, Am, Adv, Adv Masters and if I get at least 4 Adv Women, I will personally get a practice basket for the winner of that division too) Done

Qualifier for the 2007 Texas States National Tour bonus payout (negociations are currently in progress) It was elected not to be done, extra $2 went to Pack 114 of the Boy Scouts

Largest B-tier in Texas and maybe the world may have been :D

with both courses expanded to 21 holes, we have room for 210 players. The Carrollton Open has never turned anyone away yet. 200 players

Going to try a new way of doing the cards this year. The old top player picks up the card and writes the names of the players on them. This will resolve some of the problems we have had in the past with getting the cards ready in plenty of time. (i will also be exploring a printed out option if I can) This was the only reason the rounds started on time. It took almost an hour to double check and enter in every player between rounds.

Largest B-tier in Texas and maybe the world[

I think you may have Texas (for 2006).

4th Annual Steady Ed's Birthday Memorial (http://www.pdga.com/schedule/event.php?TournID=5790) had 208 in June.

According to the database, the '94 Carrollton Open had 267 players. Is that right ?

Sep 18 2006, 06:40 PM
I was on Coda's card when he put the $1000 ace in everyone's retina.

It felt really good looking over and seeing Coda's expression when my ace ( that was in the basket ) fell out.

After further review, that basket was leaning in the direction that my disc fell out. Hole 6 @ porter. Oh my god, I was 500 dollars richer for about 2 seconds! *^%$&&^$$^%$#%^$%*^$(*&$*&^$(*&$*&$(*&$(&%)*&^)*&%)(*%)*%)*%&%%$#$%%I&^%^%*&^%&%*&%)*&%)*&%)* THAT REALLY SUCKED !AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG GGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHH!

This was posted by THE Jeff Ash on another thread. It was so funny I had to post it here.

In 2001, I shot a 241 and Jack Tabor shot a 277.

I can't remember who the 2001 Advanced Master winner was, but he shot a 236. I have his picture but his name escapes me-

http://www.celebritydetective.com/images/john-goodman.JPG

In 2006, Jack Tabor shot a 241 and I shot a 257.

Through his hard work and determination, Jack improved his score by 36 shots in that five year period.

A shadow of the man I was in 2001, I found that I now require an additional 20 shots in order to complete all 84 holes.

After much soul searching, I have reached the following conclusions:

1. Observing the behavior of a captive Manatee for a period of 20 minutes on the day before a PDGA event will lower my player rating.

2. Getting whacked-out on coffee pods, stressed-out by a flooded creek, tired-out by the walk to the first tee, and weirded-out by starting the round without any warmup, means that I will shoot a 1000 rated round.

3. Josey Lane is too close to #5's teepad at Jimmy Porter. This is something on which Lloyd Sitkoff and I agree.

4. There is a subversive element of crazed, paint-huffing, homeless children lurking around Greenbelt. The spectre of that poor child's obsession with extracting the last remains of aerosal still haunts me. I was profoundly impacted.

5. The George Bush Expressway has created pockets of heavy gravity on the hillsides, and along the creeks, in the Carrollton area.

6. Jerry Power toyed with me as a cat toys with a dead mouse. Once he established his dominance over me, he poured salt into the wound by artfully missing just enough shots to avoid the move up to a higher card- while still keeping his death-grip on me.

7. Winning Mr. Jim's will open many doors for Jack Tabor. For example, here's a recent picture of that guy who won in 2001-

Chris looses 7 and I loose 1. Chris kicks my #$*&$! by 14 strokes. 14 is divisible by 7 by a factor of 2. He is twice the player I am, coincidance? I think not.....
