FYI:

The DGA Mach Lites (best lightweight, easily portable baskets on the market!) that we will be using for both cruises will be available for purchase by cruisers following cruise 2.

Cruisers the second week will be able to take one home with them for the low price of $129.99! All cruisers may purchase one for $139.99, inlcuding shipping. In either case, just find Mike Barnett onboard to order.

Quantities limited to 18!

ALSO, if you'd like to have your digital photos included in the DGW photo-essay from the cruise, please plan on bringing your camera and e-mail the photos to me at:

Hey, Denny, I like your sig ;-0

Sheila and I have decided to use our day in Nassau to take a high-speed boat to Saddleback (Watch the jokes, guys.) Cay to do the snorkeling-stingray-hugging-shark-feeding-iguana-baiting thing.

Is anyone else taking this excursion? It's 10 percent cheaper if you schedule on line ahead of time: http://www.islandworldadventures.com.

Got the stuff from Cruise world today in the mail.

One question you might be able to answer.

My wife asked if everyone in the cabin had to go to the check in on the ship. (where we get our wecome package) She wants to go to the room to change to workout before everyone gets on the ship. As for me, I will be at the buffet :D

As of right now we are planning on spending December 3rd at Disney World. Then on Friday the 8th at Cape Canaveral. Then we may start the long drive home Friday night or just start the drive on Saturday. (we are planning on driving overnight on Friday the 1st to get in Orlando by Saturday night)

One person from each cabin can do the check-in's for all in that cabin. They will need to know tournament divisions, pay for ace fund and $5 pdga fee (if applicable). We definitely will need at least one person from each cabin to come to the hospitality table asap after boarding the ship. This will be the only opportunity to pick up the welcome packages.

This is an email I got from a travel agent on Monday.

A few weeks ago, I reported on the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, which will require people traveling between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Panama, the Caribbean, Bahamas and Bermuda to have a passport to enter or re-enter the United States. I explained that the timeline for implementation of these new passport requirements had been amended, again. The new deadline to have a passport for land border crossings and sea travel is June 1, 2009, though Congress left itself lots of wiggle room and could actually move the deadline up under some circumstances, to early 2008. The deadline for air travel remained the same--January 8, 2007.

At the current time, cruise lines that sail roundtrip from U.S. ports to any of these destinations say they will continue to accept a certified birth certificate and government issued I.D. (such as a driver's license) for 2007 departures, in lieu of a passport. However, many cruise lines--including Carnival, Princess, Royal Caribbean and Holland America--strongly suggest that guests obtain a passport anyway, and here's why.

Guests who cruise after January 8, 2007, and need to fly to or from the United States unexpectedly will likely experience significant delays and complications related to booking airline tickets and entering the United States if they do not have a valid U.S. passport with them. For example, a passenger missing a cruise departure due to a late inbound flight to Miami would need a passport to fly to meet the ship at the next port. Similarly, guests needing to fly to the U.S. or Canada (via the U.S.) before their cruise ends, because of medical, family, personal or business emergencies, missing a ship's departure from a port of call, or a mechanical problem of some sort with the ship, would need a passport.

Of course, situations like these are extremely rare, but they can happen, which is why I also recommend passports for cruises starting in 2007. Always check with your Vacations To Go cruise counselor at the time of booking to verify documentation that will be required for your vacation.

So no, you do not need a passport for this cruise. (If you did need one, yoiu would have a hard time getting it in time)

When you are on the ship, you will notice people cleaning the handrails all day long. On my cruise this summer, every time we got on the ship or went to eat, there was someone there to make sure we used the hand sanatizer each time. This is a common problem when you get so many people is such a small place. The Carnival cruise in the story was at sea for 14 days straight with no stops.

From the Royal Caribbean website (http://www.royalcaribbean.com/home.do;jsessionid=0000o7WgmgO3YcPxdW_B6bdhtWO:10k tmeu5p?cS=MHDR)

Dress Suggestion

During the day, casual clothes are fine for the main dining room. In the evening, there are three distinct types of dress onboard: casual, smart casual and formal.

3 to 4-night cruises include one formal night and two or three casual nights.

Suggested guidelines for these nights are:
Casual: Sport shirts and slacks for men, sundresses or pants for women
Smart Casual: Jackets and ties for men, dresses or pantsuits for women
Formal: Suits and ties or tuxedos for men, cocktail dresses for women

Bare feet or bathing suits are not allowed at any time in the dining room and shorts are not permitted at dinner. Each ship also offers a variety of casual dining options, for example, the Windjammer Caf.

WOW! The time is almost here! (I just gotta knock out four final exams in the next three days and then I'm good to go!)

I've posted the disc golf group schedule of events for cruise1
here. (http://www.etherbinge.com/c1sched.htm)

Cruise2 will be nearly identical, but may have different rooms and/or times for certain events. That may not get posted until after we get back from the first trip.

For all cruisers, as soon as you board the ship you will be greeted by one of our host couples. They will hand each cruiser a paper with the schedule on one side and the course map on the other side. Please bring this with you to the players' meeting Monday night. Please bring this with you to CocoCay on Tuesday. Please do not lose your map.

Your hosts will direct you to our hospitality desk. (For cruise1 this will be in the Navigator Conference Room.) At least one person from each cabin will need to go do check-in. You will need to bring $5 per person that wishes to be in the Ace Fund and $5 for each player that isn't current with the PDGA.

The players' meeting on Monday night is mandatory for tournament participants. We'll have a lot of info to cover in one hour, so it's very important that everyone arrive early and ready to listen and ask questions. The fun we'll have on Tuesday will be well worth the hour spent on Monday night. Non-players are also encouraged to attend this meeting as we will be soliciting for a few spotters for the tourney.

Just a reminder: Rick Rothstein will be saving a few pages in DGW for a sweet photo-essay on the cruises. For those of you that take digital shots and would like to see your pictures in the mag, please e-mail them to
mritner@yahoo.com
after the cruise.

Looking forward to a sweeeet time! :)

There was a lifeboat drill which began with 7 short blasts followed by one long blast. From a few feet away someone yelled "TWO MINUTES!!" :DI knew the best was yet to come.

I can't thank Denny, Mike and the rest of the crew enough for all the preparation that went into this event. This will be everyone's favorite event by far.

You are such a super sweet person and I enjoyed playing with you. Matt and Mitchell/Malcom/Robert (hahaha) congratulations to y'all as well. You all played awesome.

Truly an awesome time. No results yet, but I remember some numbers:

- Jay Reading and Craig Gangloff took Open with -8.

- Advanced Am had a first place tie at -5 with yours truly only one stroke behind the leaders at -4. That's all I can remember as Mike didn't read a lot of the scores out at the awards ceremony.

Some of those short holes are not easy, with tight fairways and toe-stubbing fairways - the schule was jungly and rocky at the same time. It was beautiful, though.

A tremendously nice group of disc golfers from all over, although Florida and Georgia were disproportionately represented - by very nice people! Made a few new friends and now have even more respect for some people I knew or knew of a bit before, and now know better.

Home for the weekend with only low-speed connectivity, so the best of my 400+ photographs will not be on line until next week.

P.S. For Disc Golf Cruise II folks: They insist on long pants at dinner every night, so be sure to have at least one pair of non-shorts with you. (They say no t-shirts, too, but except for "formal night," people seemed to get away with decent tees.)

Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! That was totally and completely amazing! From the moment we stepped on the ship and were greeted by Julianna and Shawn we knew it would be fun. We met so many wonderful people (Denny, Can You Dig It Scotty, Laura, Jimmy, Mike and Cindy SunKing, Brian, Todd, Deb, Scott, Darren, Wanda, Jimmy, and many more) and enjoyed being with our Team Georgia buds playing Disc Golf on an ISLAND! Thanks so much to our hosts Des, Jay, Julianna, and Shawn. From an event organizer's perspective: I usually gauge an event where I receive a dozen minor complaints and one nice pat on the back as a success. I've got to say that Mike and I have just been blown away by the enthusiastic feedback on the ship and on this board.

I've got to correct one thing I've heard over and over from y'all:
I've heard that the ship was fantastic, the food was awesome, the entire service staff of the sovereign was top notch, coco cay was a blast, the course was fun, the weather on thursday was unbelieveable, it was awesome to have world champs as hosts and teachers, etc. While those things may be true, by far the most important factor that contributed to the group having a memorable week was y'all.

To the 100+ of you that plunked down your hard-earned cash, took a week of your lives, and brought an exuberant attitude of fun to play a role in an adventure that had never been done before: THANK YOU!!!

It is my hope that disc golf organizers around the country and world will take this event as proof that we don't have to continue to taylor our events to the lowest common denominator. I believe that the folks that were a part of this event truly are the face of the future of disc golf. Y'all have families, careers, passion, vision, and can welcome and teach newbies about the real heart of our sport.

Please take the great feelings that we all shared and bring them back to your home courses. Welcome new players to your parks with even 1/10th the excitement of this trip and they'll be hooked for life!

THANK YOU!!!
Denny

It would be hard to describe all the cool things that went down on this trip. :cool:Thanks in no particular order to Denny, Mike, Shawn, Juliana, Jay, Des, the bag captains, Sun King, RCCL, the crew of Soverign of the Seas, etc. :DWOW! I could go on and on, it was just a dream. The place was a jungle, wild animals, lost discs, spectators wandering into your line...
and that was just the Windjammer Buffet !!! :D :D

Outstanding event Disc Golf in Paradise.

Great meeting and sharing the whole thing with all you guys.

Wow, someone is going to shoot 39 or 38 on that course.

It's a bit harder than it looks. The open holes are very windy and the short holes are very tight.

I bet the hot round for both cruises will be 42.

3 people shot 46's the first week. We'll see what The Champ comes in with this week.

Wow! Where do I begin?! What an amazing run between the two cruises! It truly was one of the most unique experiences I've ever had. From the concept, to the initial planning and design, the first players meeting and through the final putt, a most memorable disc golf extravaganza.

Big high five to Denny Ritner who basically ran with this project while I was tied up with other tourneys, including The Players Cup (http://www.theplayerscup.org) and of course my day to day business of Sun King Discs (http://www.sunkingdiscs.com). Denny's excellent project management and attention to detail helped out tremendously in the overall success of these events.

Big high five to Disc Golf Association for donating the new First Flight Pro Line Rogue (http://www.sunkingdiscs.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=S&Product_Code =3153-PLROG) for the players package and giving us (18) Mach Lite portable targets (http://www.sunkingdiscs.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=S&Product_Code =6000-DGAML&Category_Code=6000) for exclusive use on the Disc Golf Cruises.

Big high five to Cruise World (http://www.cruiseworld.com) for coordinating the event and also sharing our vision and helping to make the first ever Disc Golf Cruise (http://www.discgolfcruise.com) get from dry dock and in to the open water.

Big high five to Discraft for coming through with an amazing SuperCOLOR Ultra Star (http://www.sunkingdiscs.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=S&Product_Code =7200-DGCUS&Category_Code=3126) and one of the highlights of the trips.

Big high five to Jay & Des and Shawn & Juliana for not only being superb hosts and leading the putting clinics, but also assisting with the overall smooth experience by helping with the logistical side of things as well. Extra high five for Jay & Des sharing the truly entertaining Yeti Road Report. Extra high five for Shawn and Juliana sharing their knowledge during their morning stretch routines. Extra high five to Juliana for hand making the change purse for ALL of the womens players packages on board both cruises. Extra high five to Jay for his truly hilarious imitaion of Dave Feldberg!

Big high five to Burning Ambitions (http://www.burningambitions.net) who supplied the Lars Tetens cigars for ALL of the mens players packages.

Without the above, none of this would've happened, but a super big high five to ALL of the players and participants who spent their hard earned money for a chance to be part of Disc Golf history and experience an unforgettable time!

I will be meeting with Cruise World around the first of the year and will be releasing additional info about the 2007 Disc Golf Cruise(s) very shortly afterwards. As promised, those attending the inaugural boat trips will have dibs and first chance at getting on the 2007 cruises.

I will be submitting the results to the PDGA very shortly and want to congratulate all of our division winners.

Lastly, we are still wanting to get photos from both cruises for our articles in both Disc Golf World and Disc Golf Mag. Please send them in original format to mritner@yahoo.com.

Can you dig it?

what about results for the tournies?

Dude, it wasn't very competitive, I believe the majority of us playing were proly so dumbfounded by the beauty of this place that the game was just that, a game. Fun in the sun, unbelieveable! I don't think folks were worried about "winning" (oh I'm sure there was a few as always) But due to time restraints we just wanted to play as many as we could. Try to go to the next one and you'll understand. Can I get an Amen on that from the choir?

Pizza God
Jan 10 2007, 02:09 PM
AMEN Brother (and I don't want to see my score either)

However it was the most fun tournament/disc golf outing I have ever been too.

I am willing to bet, the next one will fill up just from those that went this year. We will be given first option to purchase tickets before the cruise is opened up to everyone. I for one will probably sign up that first week. (please make the next one not between Thanksgiving and Christmas, it was hard on my to be there, that is my busiest time of year)

spoke too soon. i got a postcard about the cruise in the mail sometime. I just didn't notice it till today.

I will have to think about this one. To tell the truth, if it had been a different cruise, I would have jumped on it.

If you do go, when in Nassau, do one of the tours. The city of Nassau is kinda boring. Spend the money and do something like snorkling or go see the stingrays. Even going to Atlantis and spending the day there would be cool. (kinda pricey though)

Anyone who did not go last month, NEEDS to book this cruise on Feb 12th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully Mr. SunKing posts the details and date cut-offs on here very soon.

I do know that 2006 Discin' Cruisers have first priority for signing up for the 2007 edition for just a little while longer. We have several sign-ups already. The Cruise will be open to everyone very shortly so start making plans no as it will sell-out and I am pretty sure we are just doing one cruise for 2007.

A problem Mike is having sending out payouts for the tournaments and notification of the priority sign-ups is that some people signed up in groups and he doesn't have everyones e-mail or address. So, if you went last year, drop Mike a line.

I voted for Grand Cayman, there is a town on the island called Hell. Think about it. Disc Golf in Hell.

There is a resort in Belize that already has 9 baskets. I assume that is the thought. That is also one of the cruises I have been scoping out to go on in the near future. (Belize that is)

But don't quote me on that.

I guarantee you will have a good time. The only reason I am prolly not going again this year is a cash shortage. (I am still paying for the last cruise or actually all the stuff we did before and after the cruise)

Hey everybody!

Good news! All of the Am vouchers have been e-mailed out. We are still missing some contact info for some folks, so if anybody knows how to get a hold of them, please let us know via private message or e-mail. We will also be contacting the PDGA to see if they can help as well.

Checks for the pros will start going out next week and we'll post again if we are missing any info from those folks as well.

This years cruise already has (60) people signed up, putting us at about 1/3 capacity. Because we can only get one round in, we expanded the tournament field to (90) this year. www.discgolfcruise.com (http://www.discgolfcruise.com) will be updated shortly with all of the pertinent info.

We will definitely be doing a different itinerary for 2008, we've started working on that already. Because all of the leg work was done for this first cruise and we only had about (200) people total for both cruises, we decided that there were thousands of folks who didn't go, so let's give it another go and start working on something different for 2008.

We apologize about the delay for the payout, some of it was out of our hands and we learned (the hard way!) how to solve the problem for future cruises.

See you on the boat!

love the write up in DGW.

One thing though, how did you get into the Atlantis aquarium for free??? When we went over there, they wanted $30 per person. When we asked if it was free after 5 like all the cab drivers said, we were told it was only open to motel guests after 5.

Needless to say, we didn't get in. We walked over to the public beach and hung out.

If we are ever to go to Nassau again, we are either going to spend the money for the day pass at Atlantis or take one of the all day excursions snorkling or seeing the stingrays.

g1iguy
Apr 09 2007, 08:52 AM
We took a water taxi over to the island. Walked in the front door which takes you into the casino. Once you walk through the casino you are in the main lobby and the free aquarium is just down the stairs. The part you have to pay for is the underground area with the tunnel you can walk-through. But the part in the lobby which is gigantic, and has the stingrays, and manta ray is completely free. Also if you enter the beach to the south of Atlantis (free beach) you can walk north to the Atlantis beach and then right into the resort. We walked around the whole place and never had a problem. When you come in from the beach they assume that you are a hotel guest.
