Hey there everyone. What I really need is Linda Fowlers address, or Spencer's so that Red Whittington can send a letter to them. He asked me if I could get their addressess so if anyone knows or can get me in touch with someone who might, please PM me. thanks alot from Chris Deitzel.
Also Red will be back on the disc golf tour this year. He has been doing very well in his recovery and has been playing every week in our league. Sure is nice to have him back. If anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it, as would he.

That would cause some difficulty in driving...wouldn't ya think? Having a needle taped into your vein? This new fangled "liquor bong" is out of control! And would imagine it would be quite legal..it would be akin to smoking during the round.

Sunday's premier event MIXED ALTERNATE SHOT DOUBLES, bring your own partner of the oposite sex or maybe yopu will be on the disc next year in all of your cross dressing glory cost for Sunday is $20 per team. THIS IS THE TOURNEY THAT GETS TALKED ABOUT ALL YEAR!!! This is what FUN means!

Singles on Saturday: Tony Ellis won, but Idont' know what his scores were.
Sunday- Mixed Alternate Shot Doubles.
Dr. Bob's dog won for best dressed.
The Boyce's took it shooting a 70 at the woodshed
Followed by Craiger and Beth with a 71 and Rachel and Charlie with a 72. Piper (5 year old) and I played and shot a 103. She won $10 (she's now a Jr. Pro!) for being the youngest player to play a complete round at the Woodshed.

All registered now. I've heard nothing but great things about the tourney. I usually do a concert in upstate NY that weekend, but had to switch it up this year.
Question: what's the weather like there that time of year?

Ticks...Skeeters??
WVOmorningwood
Jun 08 2006, 09:56 AM
Hot and sticky...but it cools down at night, so sweats will be in order for the evening. And yes you will need bug protection...as in any grassy/wooded environment we have ticks, chiggers and skeeters...the worst offenders are the black flies that want to fly into your eyes while you putting.
There are many home remedies for bug protection such as Avon Skin so soft, one guy clips a burning cigarette to the brim of his baseball cap...I have found that smoking a cigar will keep the bugs away from the entire group. (now the smoking during a PDGA event will discussion will ensue)

Those black flies are deer flies and while they don't bite, they are incredibly annoying. While building my latest golf course, I found that they are only repelled by Deep Woods Off. The maximum strength Cutter product doesn't "cut" it.

Mitch - We'll take care of you..if you don't find someone going from MSDGC to the WVO...My thoughts would be to check with the Yeti caravan as I know they attend both tourneys.
The Yeti caravan i believe is full once the yeti and mrs yeti are in in, unless they have a bigger and better truck??
Anyone else going from one to the other without stopping to work or anything stupid in-between?
I didn't see this info covered previously on the thread or tournamant website. I'm writing on behalf of some CA folk (that aren't too familiar with the board)...
- Sounds like Dulles (DC) or Baltimore are the airports to fly into. How long a drive from there to the course?
- I know pretty much everyone camps, but are there "nearby" hotels? I heard something about Marcia's and Grandma's. What sort of establishments are those and HOW FAR from the course?

You have a few options... Tony Ellis
The West Virginia Open
Nude Golf Where
any of the above three will work for us.

fist question how long of drive from airports:
we have three major ones:
National Airport (DC) - 2.5 hours drive (if you kow what your doing...else 3 hours +)
Dulles Airport (Herndon VA)This would be your closest option
about 1.5 to 2 hour drive
Baltimore/Washington Airport (BWI) - farthest option could be 3-4 hours depending on traffic.
Second question Hotels: Berkeley Springs WV is about 20 minutes away from the course the website for the chamber of commerce in Berkeley Spr is http://www.berkeleysprings.com/
this would be the closest town for Hotel accomodations
next town after that would be Hancock MD, about 30-40 mins away their website is http://www.hancockmd.com/
Camping is way more fun...as most of the people don't leave the courses for the entire weekend.
Good luck and sign up soon...this thing is filling fast

Mullet,
Should I be offended that you didn't ask me about travel/lodging? I'm doing MSDGC and Paw Paw. Unless you are trying to avoid coming back and seeing all our "friends". I wouldn't blame you.
Thanks for the detailed response. I didn't realize hotels were so close.

I would disagree with Teescum's Draconian description of coming in at BWI. Easy drive to 70 west avoids all the DC traffic easy 3 hours, probably closer to 2 1/2. Dulles is most certainly the closest and I don't know anyone who wishes to deal with National airport. The hotels in Berekely Springs are fairly close but after dealing with 15 miles of roads that get progressively smaller and smaller and more and more windy ending on a dirt road well you get the picture quite a journey to the deep hills of WV and we love it!!!!!

I was pressed for time trying to do the airport post...basically Dulles is you best best bet..followed by BWI. Thanks for the clarification Sharky!

Here it is...back by popular demand...Paw Paw Survival Guide by JTZ
1. You did NOT bring enough beer or ice. Be sure to refill on Saturday night.
2. Stay out of bonfires and away from Tractors.
3. Do not pass out around disc golfers with Sharpies.
4. Do not quit the tournament if your tent blows over.
5. No drinking and campground driving.
6. Do not be the last one awake with anyone named: Trepasso, JG or JGB
7. Nude golf is best played early in the day
8. A Big Cup is always half full, never half empty.
9. Do not complain about the noises at the Mobile Grange, they've been here since Tuesday.
10. Tequila makes you do things (see #5)

The sign atop the Route 522 bridge said it all: Welcome to Wild Wonderful West Virginia. I want to thank Gabbi and Spence for the hospitality and for sharing their little piece of heaven with the rest of us. Mark and Tony did a great job of grooming the course and running the tournament. Thank you both and everyone else who lent a hand. I also want to express my appreciation to all those who I had the pleasure to play with, especially Shannon, who I was lucky enough to be grouped with both rounds. To all those Masters players out there who havent figured it out yet, Shannons game has skyrocketed in the past year or so. He is a definite force on the old-timers tour in this region.
Finally, I was wondering about all those snakes people were talking about: are these copperheads or rattlesnakes or just friendly little black snakes?

i copied this post of craiger's from the maryland message board.. best wishes to spencer for a full and speedy recovery...
As many of you know, I have been helping Spence and Gabi build their house in Paw Paw. So far it has been a lot of fun, helping them bring the house of their dreams into reality. Like so many things in life - certain things are beyond our control - such was the case yesterday. Five of us were lifting a beam into place for the great room roof, when something went wrong, and the beam got away from us. Spence got hit in the head, and was flown away via helicopter to western MD(*(& Memorial). I spoke with Gabi last night, and he is in good spirits, but he's fractured a vertebrae and is going to be out of commission for a while. He was shipped to Shock Trauma in Baltimore last night, where he will find out was his treatment options are. He had not lost any feeling in his extremities, and he could move everything when tested by the EMT - so all indications are that he is going to be ok. I'm not sure of anything really - how long he will be in Baltimore - or exactly how severe his injury is. I wanted to let you (his frisbee family) know what happened, and ask that you take a little time and keep Spence and Gabi in your thoughts and prayers. They have both given us all so much.

Just spoke with Gabi and Spence is resting. He got a 4cm split in his T2 vertebra. (for those medical types)
They have not ruled out surgery...but the swelling need to abate before they will reconsider that.
I'll be Vacationing in Cacpon all next week...So my RN wife will be checking on him regularly. Starting on saturday night.
Please send some of those positive healing karma vibes Spence's way!!!!

i've heard hole 14 (http://www.westvirginiaopen.com/shedhole14.htm) has been aced. i also heard that tony ellis got a deuce on a second shot skip to hole 2 (http://www.westvirginiaopen.com/shedhole2.htm) which i think is as good or better than a lot of aces. i've come close on hole 10 (http://www.westvirginiaopen.com/shedhole10.htm), which tells me it has to have been aced.
WVOmorningwood
Jul 21 2006, 09:48 AM
Hole 14 at the woodshed ins the only PGDA tounament ace that was Wytee's work. John Bradway aced old hole #16 at the Whippin Post (when the pin was down near the fence)during the Anniversary Tourney (non-PDGA event. Mike Mose and Brian Stableford have aced Whippin Post #18 during practice. And Some AM player aced Woodshed #10 during a practice round...it was his first time at the Woodshed.
Elaine King smacked the basket on Woodshed #10 during the WVO about ten years ago.
That is the synopsis of aces (near aces) at Paw Paw.
And yes Tony cashed Woodshed #2 for a 2 during a practice round...he is the only 2 for that hole.
Tom Garber got a 2 on Woodshed #15 during a WVO..so far he is the only person to 2 that hole!

That was during the transition year while we were still building the Whippin' Post...we had 9 holes completed and we ended up adding two extra holes on the property across the street to accomodate all the people who showed up. I swear we also had a few large groups (6-8 somes)as well.

ahhhhhhhhhhh. the 8 hour rounds. What fun that was. I got to hole 1 at the woodshed and saw the huge backup in front of me. Walked all the way to Camp Ohio, made a grilled cheese, drank a little and then wandered back to hole 1 to find 2 groups that were still waiting to play the hole in front of me. What's the format for the 2006 WVO? Last year the pros played one round at the Post and two rounds at the 'Shed.
Countin' the days... :)
opposite last year-- pros will play two rounds of the whippin post, one round of woodshed.
i try to keep my excitement for WVO in check by buying something each week in preparation for it. this weekend, i'm buying a new tent. the last weekend prior to WVO, i'll be buying enough expensive tequila to kill a decent size goat (or at least enough to knock it out long enough for susi to have his way with it).
are we there yet? :D
