Gimp,
SuperGirl (Nicole) had a great time. She loves playing in your events and we try to make it to as many as we can. She even skipped her soccer game this past weekend so she could play in your tournament. We both think you do a great job!
Your events always have a good turnout in the female divisions. The rec women's division had nine players and many of them were very good. The top 5 all averaged better then 700 in their (unofficial) round ratings for the tournament. The 6th place women had an average round rating of 681, which is also very good. The competition was very close and no one really dominated. For example:
Kim had the best 1st round (she finished in 3rd place)
SuperGirl (Nicole) had the best 2nd round (Nicole finished in 4th place).
SuperGirl and Pat tied for the best 3rd round scores (Pat finished in 1st place).
Sarah had the best 4th round score (Sarah finished in 5th place).
Bridget played good all 4 rounds and finished in 2nd place.
I think all the ladies had a good time. SuperGirl sure did. She also really enjoyed talking to Des Reading during the skins match.
We will see you at Texas States. Remember that a lot of people appreciate all your hard work.
Thanks..........Rick

Who would have thought I could play that good with no practice and massive stress.
When i was playing I had a great time.four fun rounds of golf with some great golfers. hope I can shoot that good again in the future.
Sorry if I was ( short, blunt, rude, mean, loud, and/or a total a-- ) with anyone this weekend but that was some crazy time.

Kevin Mccoy and Seth Lawhead both hold the record at -14 at Pecan Park. It was at one of the first PPOs.
That would be with 11 in the long position as well I would guess...

#3 is only hard if your 40-footer hits a DiscCrapper and rolls 25 feet away, leaving you with a 4. :(

I don't know if there was mention of a Lost and Found to encourage people to turn in things that weren't theirs. I suppose it is pretty standard to just turn stuff in at touraments. Anyway, would have loved to find my Blue Star Wraith and my tye-dyed towel. :)
I would say you had about zero chance of getting the towel back lmao - people know to turn stuff in at tourney central for sure and a lot of stuff was reunited with its owner - sorry about your disc :(

Neal, this is a trend that us old timers are not happy about.
A few years ago, a disc was turned in to HQ and the Carrollton Open, I saw it myself. I told the player when I saw him his disc was in lost and found. When he checked, it was gone.
This happened more than once at that tournament.
So now, at HQ, I keep the lost and found behind the tables so they can't be stolen.
Of course there are still guys who go get them out of the creeks and DON'T turn them in.
When I have extra staff, we go and try to fish out all the lost discs to make sure players get them back. I even gave some kids a new disc (each) for pulling discs out for players all day.

***This is a response to a note someone sent me that I thought might get a bit more information out there***
Thank you for the thoughts, I appreciate you taking the time to let me know your feelings. Scott apparently made many more people mad this weekend than normal and a lot of that had to do with many of our regular helpers not being able to make it, some at the last min. His comments about Team Disaster policy are untrue and inappropriate. I of course did not help with some of the mistakes I made either.
To put this in perspective, I run a HUGE added cash event that I am the primary fundraiser for each year, Texas States. 100% of all money raised at that event, for that event, through sales at the event and margin in the discs goes right back to the players, mostly to the pro divisions. There are other promoters who dont run something as grand as Texas States that dont seem to get the smack that I do about LSS. (States would not be possible without the wonderful volunteers that help either my point is I raise a ton of cash for Pros through States).
I run the LSS as a side business and have never hidden this fact. The first few years of GCCS I made a tiny bit of profit after expenses and sales tax. I have done a little better this year, but I barley clear minimum wage on the hours I put in even now (not even counting the Texas States hours). If you add up the REAL numbers of added cash and wholesale cost of the merchandise given away at Pecan it was significant.
There was no reason for pros to expect more than the $250 requirement for a B-tier at this event based on the way Team Disaster events have been run and the advertised literature. I have approached the locals to help fund raise for purse since this is their only event, but they have no wanted to help so far.
Now if it is just not worth it for pros to come with $291 added on nice courses with a shirt if they sign up early then I can respect that. I am considering adding the cost of the shirt to payout for pro divisions next year, but $4ish a pop for the handful of pros who actually get me their money early will not bump it that much. Maybe this should not have been a LSS qualifier in the pro divisions. $3 per player more in the pro divisions would have helped, but by having it as a LSS qualifier all the pros who had not qualified can go for the LSS bonus money at States. While not a ton, it IS something
Yes, I like having the pros at the events and I believe it adds a ton to the experience. I have tried to find people to help raise money for the pro purse many times over the years with no success. If pros cannot enjoy these events for what they are, there is not much that I can do to change it at this point. Nothing has ever been HIDDEN at Team Disaster events. Most of the pros that complain the loudest dont do anything to raise money for purses at any Texas events either. If they do, it is probably MUCH less than we raise for States.
My words sting a little, but as a TD that is cornering many weekends on the Texas Tour schedule, I would hope you are looking to make things better so you may hold that clout. As for this statement, these sanctioned Team Disaster events dont keep people from running events in Texas. Hardly any event that we run pulls people from anywhere but the Houston area. Shoot, we could not even keep someone from running an event at ZBoz the same weekend. I seriously doubt any emerging TD that wants to build a new event with lots added is held back by the LSS series.
As far as making things better these events have developed a ton of new players who will hopefully one day turn into pros. The organizers of these events also give a ton back through running fun PDGA events where people can compete and a feature event with tons of added cash. If pros choose not to support the overall effort, there is nothing I can do, but hopefully people will see the overall picture.
I cant make the pros like the events, but I believe the beating I am taking over Pecan for some bad circumstances is a bit overboard when you consider the overall picture of what Team Disaster does

Just wondering if this event is going to occur this year. I've been to the last three and it's one of my favorites. It used to be a great way to kick off Daylight Saving Time, but that's changing to March (even better!). Since Texas States is the weekend that this one is usually on, I am guessing that the PPO is not happening this year, and if it is, definitely not the same weekend. Anyone have any inside info? Last year the attendance was awesome, so hopefully it can still get thrown together.

Just got off the phone with Rick, and he said that PPO is the weekend of April 14-15. This date was discussed and approved with Gary.
He will be contacting Gary to discuss all these dates tonight.
I was recently playing some golf on a beautiful day with Scott. I have not played much lately because of all the turbulence in my life and the fact that I am starting a new business. I was having a GREAT time, but during the last few holes, I was thinking back to what made me hit a wall after running so many events over the years. I always tried to make each series and event better and never saw the WALL coming. Were we perfect? HELL no, but we ran fun laid back events with nothing to hide.
Anyway, I cant point to this as THE reason that I started to burn out, but I think it was a major reason that I eventually stepped back. This PPO had some problems for sure, but the blast we took over it was over the edge. This email sure did come off as self serving and hurtful. I dont play enough now to know if Team D is missed, but sometimes I wonder if the people who b-----ed moaned and whined all the time realize that THEY are the ones that many times run off TDs and volunteers Here are some PMs that were exchanged between me and A WELL RESPECTED PRO at that time. You can also read the thread if you would like. I only changed minor things in the notes to not give away the identity of this particular cry baby.
I post this as food for thought...

I know you received some flack on PPO and rightfully so. I approached Scott Sunday morning when he wasn't busy to just to let him know of the rumblings in the parking lot. Congrats on the great turnout by the way. You say things wouldn't have been different if you didn't play and I have to disagree. When you have that many players at some point you have to sacrifice what you have going on for the good of the tournament. I don't know what may have improved, but am sure players wouldn't be pinning problems on the fact that you guys did play. At the minimum you would have had time to get some water together. I provided water all weekend to players out of our trucka nd 5 gallon water jug. Many cases of dehydration in those humid conditions.
As far as Scott stating, "Team Disaster has a company policy of never taking form the ams and giving to the pros" WTF? Nobody says a tournament has to do this, BUT when you have a raffle to help pay for your added cash requirements and have 150 players show up at your tournaments you really should spread the love a little. I am all in favor of TD's turning a profit for their efforts, but attitudes like that are felt by everyone. The TD now has options via the payout schedule and the deep, flat payout scales are suggested only when there is significant added cash. That seems to be the problem with running a two day event from Houston and never even stepping foot in Nacogdoches to raise any sponsorship. At the minimum here, it would have made a world of difference to add all $250 required to the pro payout and then sponsor in the T-Shirt and Skins match. Many pros felt not wanted by the TD's blanket policy. I counted for fun that I signed 40 autographs at your event, other pros were approached by AM's for help with their games.
This stuff is hard to qauntify, but most TD's realize this and treat their Pros accordingly. This trend is really bothering and you are not the only guilty one, but the latest one. Many Pros came away having driven 5+ hours, hotels and food wondering what happened to this tournament with 150 players and great courses!?
My words sting a little, but as a TD that is cornering many weekends on the Texas Tour schedule, I would hope you are looking to make things better so you may hold that clout.
I still do and have always respected you as a person. I hope you are open to changing and realize that having Pro's at your events benefit your events.
Peace,
WELL RESPECTED PRO PLAYER

FROM HIGHLY RESPECTED PRO,
Thanks for not dragging my name into your decision to post your response publicly. I decided not to jump into the "beating" you took on the board, but figured you could respect my comments on the side.
I really can enjoy the tournament for what it is when things are ran smoothly. Not having any water on the course or even for sale is inexcusable for an experienced TD. Five mistakes in One Pool to start the final round is inexcusable for an experienced TD. Having OB's not count one round and then count another round due to poor wording or unprepared course rules are inexcusable for an experienced TD.
Don't take offense, you choose to defend the added cash and those complaints. Most of those complaints become exemplified when these other tournament necessities don't happen. And these get even more exemplified when the TD plays in their own 150 player, two course tournament.
That is all I have to say on the matter. I am not mad at you, I still had fun. Let's move on and focus on the killer States coming up and for better tournaments in the future.
BTW, Scott really did a great job under the gun when all of those errors showed themmselves that second round on Sunday. Props to him. You guys had it tough.
IMO, don't sweat the T-Shirts for the Pros. When the entry fee is low with cash taken out for PDGA/Series/Charity most want it all to go to the purse.
