YES!! 22 short hours before we depart. I am bursting with excitement thinking about KY!!! Sucks it'll be raining all friday, but we will have a good time anyway. Maybe I'll have to set up a mini course around the pool! Oh man, I can almost smell the chlorine..
Packing starts tonight, I'm ready to roll!
Two questions though...
There was some talk earlier about one of the Intermediate courses not being ready, did the work finish?
Also, i know i've asked, and i've seen others ask on this thread but no one has given an answer yet. Which of the Intermediate courses would it be best to play on Friday if the weather allows? I think i'll have time for two, so i want to make it the best two.

Wow, looks like the MA1 field is going to take up all 4 main courses.
245 MA1 players
They can fit 4-somes on each hole.
4 x 72 = 288
Or with 5-somes
4 x 90 = 360
With stragglers, and people who refuse to preregister there could be more advanced players then can physically fit on the courses. This is stupid crazy.
All if favor of caps say aye......

I'm more in favor of adding late registers (i.e., anybody signing up in person in the days just prior to the event or after the Online registration closes) to the bottom pool, regardless of rating.

So... Now I might not know where I'm playing until Sat. morning, when it will be too late to practice? I'm hoping ($300 vehicle repair bill looming before we leave) to get there about 3 p.m. Friday, but if Adv. Masters aren't playing the four main courses, I'd like to have an idea where we ARE going to play so I could at least look at one of the other three courses. Griffin I know, but the others I've never laid eyes on. A cap on advanced might not be a bad idea. rWc#3523
scoop
Mar 29 2006, 12:45 PM
There are 316 players already registered in the Advanced divisions that are slated to play the four original courses.
FA1 -- 19
MM1 -- 52
MA1 -- 245
Which means that there are only 44 spots left in these three divisions before we hit 5 players per card on all 4 coures (360 players).
I'd really hate to see considerate, early-registering FA1 or MM1 players get down-graded from the courses that they thought they signed up for to make room for some MA1 players who were too lazy or too inconsiderate to do what 488 others were able to: sign up early.
More than that, I'd hate to see the TD decide to go back to last year's 3-flights per course format.
So Larry --- what is the contingency plan in case more than 44 MA1, FA1, or MM1 players sign up between now and Saturday? I think a lot of people who have already signed up with expectations of playing a particular set of courses or a particular format (2 flights per course per day) might be curious to know before they depart on their long road trips.

Personally, I would cap the field at 270
There are already 82 posted entrants in the other Advanced divisions. They would have to cap Advanced at 270 and then only let 8 more players enter in the other advanced fields without moving them to the other 4 courses.
Again, I am not running the show. All I know is that I refuse to play in a 6-some, I actually do not even believe that is allowed per PDGA rules. But I have no sympathy for people registering late. I like your idea of putting late regisrants in the bottom pool. Incentive for signing up early. At my event, even though it will not fill, I am sorting starting cards by order of recieved entries per division. Don't want to start on the last hole, pregregister. It makes it so much easier on the TD.
With all these people having to check in, I am surprised they are even allowing on site sign ups.
LOL, I'd rather he be in Estenbagger's or Big Pimpin's head-game instead of a new advanced player's. :D

It does not matter what pool you are in. We all are playing the same 4 courses. Ratings don't mean diddly when it comes to present performance.
Put him on hole 18 of D-pool for not making a decision to come until the last minute. Plus he is not even current with the PDGA, so he has no rating. D-Pool. LOL!

One of the reason BG does well is that we don't turn players away nor do we have a deadline to sign-up. Obviously with growing numbers that maybe something that happens in the next year or so. We won't be running any 3 rounds per course as we did last year. I planned it last year expecting close to the numbers we got but obviously not that many. I don't won't the hassel of the rush on us and everyone playing so we will just do the 2 rounds which gives us time to work with. With that being said we may have to move some players if need be in order to fit divisions.
This is the way it goes, once we fill the c-pool with adv men we will overflow to the d-pool tring to keep the adv. mast, and adv women in that pool. If we have to move someone to accomidate a few more players we will move the women first as they are the smallest divison. Right now no-one is havign to move but Friday night could change that.
I am sure after this year's obvious turn out that we will have to make some changes for next year. We will try our best to do what we can for everyone. There is no-way to know if we will have to move the Adv Mast, or Adv women untill we see how Friday night goes. I know we won't make everyone happy but will try to do the best we can.

Thanks Larry,
I think I can speak for everyone, when I say we all apprieciate all the hard work you are putting into this event. After all, all divisions will play the same courses as their competitors. I know that the main 4 courses are part of the draw, but we will have to just deal with all decisions you make.
A lot of us, just like spouting off. I hope you don't take us too seriously. I am running a C-Tier event that will probably only have 40-50 players. If I magnify my issues and problems by 100, I might have an idea of what you are going through. Thanks so much for putting up with all the MA1 pre-madonna's.
BG is my favorite place to play DG. On these courses, it is anybodys tournament. They favor nobody. Big Arms, Short Arms, power players, finesse players, Lefties and Righties can dominate. Friday cannot get here soon enough. Thankfully I am ducking work early to get out and get my arm loose from the brutality that Huntsville put on it this past weekend.

I don't know if this was ever brought up but it was something I just thought of this morning. Larry, you can take it for a grain of salt but it is just a suggestion.
How about mini shuffles?
Like this, say we have 3.5 pools of MA1
A and B would both play Hobson and Keriakes, while C & D would play White/Lovers.
You can shuffle the A/B pools, and then the C/D pools.
Then players would be more properly matched up on Sundays rounds.
It is just a suggestion. Heck Larry, I would even help out with the doing the shuffle if that is what it would take.

This being a Major, ratings don't matter. Pros aren't allowed to play no matter how low their rating may be.
This is not a major, just an A-tier. Pros can play if they are rated low enough. The majors are Worlds, Mid Nationals and the USXDGCs. If the Players Cup got M-tier status, it too.
Sorry, too many threads open at the same time. I was wondering where this post went.

There is a fricken loop hole in the rule this year. Check this thread out. It was started because I knew the same thing, being at the Canyon this year and I was not happy.

John Chapman, the PDGA Competition Director, replied to this on the PDGA Announcements thread on March 21st:
Note to all amateurs:
Amateurs still may NOT accept prizes, other than trophies, in lieu of cash if they place in professional divisions, else they will forfeit their amateur status.
This line was previously contained in the PDGA Rules Book, and was inadvertantly omitted from the Tour Standards this year. This will shortly be corrected in the online documents and all the documents sent to future tournament directors.
Amnesty notice: Any amateur who accepted prizes in lieu of cash in a PDGA event during the dates January 1, 2006 to March 20, 2006 will not lose their amateur status with PDGA, due to the accidental omission of the policy in our documents.

Hey there everyone.
My name is Terry Miller and I'm one of the two marshals that will be at the event this weekend. I was running the PDGA booth at check in tonight.
Out of over 500 people there was about a handful of people that slipped by me and the PDGA and it needs to get fixed before you can compete.
I don't anticipate that these actual people will necessarily see this post before tomorrow. However, if you know some or any of these people, please let them know that they will NOT be able to compete until they find me at the player's meeting and square up with me for their PDGA dues.
Unless you can prove otherwise, I am missing PDGA dues from the following people:
Wil Ennis
Dianna Greenwell
Johnny Greenwell
Brent Elliott
Brando Wilson
Thanks - Terry Miller

Not that there is anyone else up wanting to see the list but it is now updated with all the players that are scheduled to play.
Everything I think went real well for as many as we had. I am glad to say we won't have to move the Adv Mast. division but as of right now will have to move the Adv. Women.
Wow is all I can say to jump up another 110 players over last year is just incredible. I know all those that got in on the first 400 were really happy with there player package. We still gave all the other 155 players a disc and mini. I know lots of players wanted XX shirts but hey we are at the mercey of are sponsors on that and they used a majority of XL. Anyway time to get off here and get some final things doen before the big day starts.
Just for all you score hounds - I will get them posted as soon as I can - please don't start asking to early - remember there are 550+ players here and it takes some time but I promise to get them up as soon as possible.

First day highlights were that I know "A" pool had 4 aces. 2 @ Hobson #18 , Kereiakes @ 11 and Kereiakes # 9. All went real good from what I could tell. This was probably the best weather I can remember for the AM event. It was mid 70's and very little wind. They couldn't of asked for much better weather. Well off to get some stuff done will get the finals in tomorrow night as soon as I can. See you all

actually Estenfelder is just that good. he picked up his bag last week after not playing since last year and then played a few rounds before heading to BG. imo, if he played everyday i think he could give Climo trouble -- but with his family priorities that doesn't seem likely. if this were another era and disc golf paid serious cash it wouldn't surprise me a bit if Marc were one of the very, very best...

Right now scores don't mean a lot because we don't know who played which courses. Keriakis, for example, has an SSA 3 to 6 throws lower than White, depending on the weather.
Ratings on the other hand don't mean a thing because everyone is getting rated off all pools playing all courses.

Marshal Terry Miller checking in here:
Today I watched action in the A-Pool in the morning (Hobson) and then I saw most of the G-Pool's round at Miller park.
I saw an ace on hole 18 at Hobson and then a few minutes later watched a guy skip ace that same hole.
I saw some great action by the G-Pool at Miller also. No surprise to see Frazer and Garland up on top. Should be a great showdown for the Advanced Women.
Let's pray for good weather tomorrow so that everything doesn't take forever during the rounds, extra holes, ceremonies, etc.

Yeah, that was us. Sorry about your ankle.
Today was a much better day for us --- my brother shot the hot round at Hobson --- probably for the entire tournament (-8) today (after shooting a -1 at Kerieakies). He moved up from 236 position yesterday to cash today in 71st.
Wil "I got 'er done" Ennis (local BG guy) won MA1 and I've never seen a guy more excited or happy to have won a tournament.
+6 was the cash cutoff for MA1 (~100 players cashed). The leader before the final 9 was at -15.
****
For you hords of Texans --- Marty was the top Texan (+2 for the tournament), Erron Salazar was +5, myself +8, Guy Boyan was +20 --- Albert from Corpus Christie cashed in 23rd in MA2. Not sure about the other couple of Texans.

Billy Lund was on the second card starting the final 9. Not sure how he finished (started -10, I believe before the Final 9)
I had the oppurtunity to play with Billy on the second card during the final nine. We were tied at -10 going into the finals and we both got into some trouble on hole 5 on our approach shots and we both took a circle 5. we then both carded some birdies down the stretch and I was able to sneak up and take a tie for 3rd, but Billy hit an OB sand bunker on the last hole and lost a few strokes.
I had a great time playing the final 9 with those guys. Mike Robinson was putting for birdie after crushing one about 500 ft on the 560 ft hole. I was only able to get one out there about 450, but wasnt dissapointed by any means.
Overall, there was great weather, an awesome run tourney and some killer courses. It was awesome meeting and playing with all you guys, hope I get an oppurtunity again sometime.

Are some of the SSA's above 54 for these courses? Why did the winner shoot in the 40's only once and still end up with a -40 total score? I'm cun-fused. :p
williethekid
Apr 03 2006, 10:22 AM
Did the intermediate and advanced play different courses or something, because the winner of intermediate finished -15 with a 4 round average of 986 (bagger to the nth degree) and the advanced winnner shot -40 with a 4 round average of 986.6 (are the round ratings wrong for intermediate or did they play different courses?)

Intermediate - Preston Miller, Franklin, Chalybeate & Franklin
Great weather with one 30min storm delay on Sunday Morning. Wind really picked up with some crazy gusts during the final 9. Players driving with lightning way off in the background.
Congrats to Drew Z for holding onto 2nd in Advanced behind Ennis.
And there were definitely many baggers in Intermediate.
scoop
Apr 03 2006, 10:33 AM
MA1 and MM1 played one set of courses. All other divisions played another set of courses.
The -40 is not an accurate reflection of the total score, because 21 MA1 players played an additional 9 holes. Wil shot a 29, the scoring reads that as a -25 round (which it's obviously not), and added to his 4 full round total of -15, it looks like a -40. They'll all be adjusted after the TD report is completed and sent in.

We were standing at the bottom of the hill on #6, and Mike Robinson's crush in the Final 9 was truly impressive --- the distance (about '500), the accuracy (the fairway was about 125' wide, with OB on both sides the entire length of the fairway), and the wind (tailwind of about 25-30 mph when they were throwing).
Zach Easterling had a crush in the fairway that was just a few feet shorter on the same hole.

Congrats on the come back Zach, way to represent Alabama with Arnette. -12 for the day at White and Lovers, incredible! Salazar, Mills, Conners and I brought up the back of the short bus this weekend . Instead of going out with a bang, went out with a bust. Thanks Larry for the great weekend. Billy's skip Ace was awsome considering we had just witnessed the guy ace the same hole right in front of us.
The weekend was fun. Holes #6 and #9 at White were a blast with that tail wind. It is fun to still hit the big five double zero with heavy fades on those holes!
I checked the SSA's on the four main courses for last years BG Open.
Hobson 49
Keriakes 50
Lovers 47
White 52
That is the order the A-Pool played. Of course we had 20mph winds for the 4th round at White, so SSA may increase. Good luck to Chuck and Larry figuring out the ratings for all those pools.
Congrats to Wil, I played with him at last years BGAm and in the fall at Nats. He deserved it, great shooting.
And to Bob from MI..... I am not changing my name to Parknfourputt despite what I did at hole #1 at Keriakes. Golfers nightmare is all I have to say.
Way to Go Karen Jaskolka. Took a 3 on the 560ft #9 at White, if anyone saw that she was pin high 30-35 left of the basket on her second shot and nailed the putt. The whole Gallery could proably be heard across the course. The womens final nine for 2nd came down to having Karen park her second shot and forced Nicole to hit a 25ft putt for the tie. Great shooting girl, I would like to hope my caddying helped out.

I was way to busy looking for the 16 different Michigan players in the final 9, or all the Am Worlds contenders to be worried about sandbaggers. :D
Much respect for the TDs at Bowling Green. Nice Work. Everything was pretty decent, weather wise till about 9 pm Sunday when all the sirens started going off. There were Tornado sigtings and touchdowns all over and I was pretty sure Id be dying in the shitter at Motel 6.
The most impressive player in BG wasnt the "baggers", it was Nikko. When he gets it all together, all the time he will be a force in this game. Nice Job Nikko.

Congrats to the finalists! I had a sweet weekend, even tho I didn't play so well. Every round was enjoyable and I was always grouped up with some chill players. James Sherwin, Billy, Dustin Fee (and Dustin's caddie), Jeremy Bogan and Zach Lambrecht are all classy dudes and great players, I hope to shoot with all of you again sometime. Good times. Now I just need to learn how to drive...

The most fun I had was at White on Sunday. Playing, and watching people shoot into the devlish wind on Hole #5 was great! I took my 4, and graciously walked away....

I tried to play safe with a firebird on that hole off the teebox, but I let go with hyzer and went OB.
But Karen J. in the Womens final took a 4 on hole #5 at White, and a 3 on hole #9. How does that make you feel? She beat me on both those holes. :(

I tied her on those holes, but you should feel like less of a man.

Bowling Green was a great time! I played very "par" all weekend and still got 12th in Intermediate. Looks like I need to move up. Thanks to the Iowa guys for the great weekend.....Dustin Fee (28th), Steve Whitson (51st), Chris Anspach (???), and Aaron Lindsley (caddie).
Billy and Melissa..... It was nice beating you in HORSE on Thursday night at the 6. ;)

Yeah, it was nice meeting you guys. HORSE was one of the highlights of the trip for me. Heck, if I would have putted that good during the tourney, I could've placed!
And BTW, only two guys can say they beat me!

I was her caddy during the final nine so I helped her strategize those holes....so no I don't. My OB and chained out putt are just happenings of the game.

Maybe you should quit playing and be a full time caddie.. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Yeah, being the caddy to one of the best Adv Women's players in the world is not such a bad gig. I will probably caddy for her during the finals at Worlds too. :D
Had a great time!
Mad props to Theresa Smith who volunteered to interpret (sign language) for us deaf competitors!
Keep up the good work Larry!
Congrats to Dain Sivak for being the top deaf disc golfer with 58th.
2004 had 2 deaf disc golfers
2005 had 4 deaf disc golfers
2006 had 8 deaf disc golfers
here's to 16 or more deaf disc golfers in 2007!

We're fortunate to always have numerous deaf disc golfers at our tournaments here in Texas.
The Texas School for the Deaf here in Austin has their own Disc Golf course on campus, and I believe that Disc Golf is a part of their PE curriculum. So many of their alumni become active tournament players around the state.
I'm not sure if being deaf is a benefit because you are less distracted by noise around you, or if it's more of a distraction if you have "loud voices" in your head. :)

I'm looking at Lover's Lane ratings, and man, they have gotta be off! I shot terrible and was rated 990! Like, if I had displayed those skills on any other course, it'd be about a 930-940. And I saw someone in my group shoot a supposed "1027" round at 8 under. 1000 maybe, but those ratings are wayyyy high. Anyone else think so? I would say SSA on that course should be like 44.

Apr 05 2006, 02:04 PM
All the ratings are way off right now, they are shown as if all 555 players played the same course at the same time, so all the official ratings will change quite a bit. It was good playing with you at lover's Daemon, im sure we'll see ya at some of the other big tourneys around the midwest. Take it easy.

Ah yes, that makes sense. Dustin, I definately had a good time playing with you. And hopefully we will be seeing each other on the lead card for some of the big events!

, or if it's more of a distraction if you have "loud voices" in your head. :)
I have occassional bouts with Tinnitus and those sounds in your head are tormenting. I rarely hear them during the day because the exterior noise masks them, but at night while trying to sleep it's enough to drive you mad.
Thread drift off.

Keriakes Long 50

Justin Bougher was real fun to play with at White. He had some bad luck at first but kept a great mindset and finished strong. I would've blown up early if I was him. He's got a great head game, especially for a freshman in HS!! Definately going to be a sweet player in a couple of years.

This was a great tourney, once again. It was my fourth year playing in it and I already can't wait until 2007. It was really good to play the same courses for the last four years being an Advanced Masters player. I just couldn't hang with the really talented players mentally in the last round. I would hate to see that division moved to other courses next year if the number of Ams get too big. Just my two cents worth. Thanks Larry and Ernie and all the rest behind the scenes.

I was just wondering if the player ratings are going to be updated. I know they are way off right now in the Intermediate Division and I was just curious to see how I actually shot. I also don't want to have an inflated rating......

So the SMARTer thing to do is step one them right so there not cast aside :p I think your talking about birds, These little cute squirles would come up to anyone and climb up your leg, i doubt the mothers would abandon them for smelling like a disc golfer... :D

I don't know if he's playing it but Justin Bougher should be the favorite for the under 16 title.
Final 9's dont get rated
If i was him i would play JR. 16under..But he will probably play Advanced Just because he lives in Tulsa
