There is a problem with setting par for doubles formats. Should the singles par of the hole change for doubles, and should it change depending on the format of doubles being played ?

For alternate shot and best disc, the pars should be fine, but for best shot, tough shot, and worst shot there is justification for the argument that the pars should be adjusted on many holes.

I disagree. Set reasonable pars for your course. Don't change them unless the holes themselves change. For doubles, best shot should be a great score compared to par and worst shot should be a much worse score. I really don't see a need for changing pars. In best shot you should kick the course's butt and in worst shot the course should do the kicking.

As mentioned above, it sets unrealistic penalies for late players. If it's barely a par 4 hole in singles, it is probably going to be an easy 3 in best shot. If it is a strong, tight par 4, it's probably going to play as a par 5 in worst shot.

Also, I said the argument could be made for it, I didn't say that I think it should happen that way.

Circles indicate birdies? Where is that in the rules?

Circling birdies is stupid...! :D:cool::p /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Circling anything is pretty much a waste of time.

It's called "golf". :)

If you guys would quit playing dinker courses and go somewhere with a few par-4s you could see the value of the circle/square method. :D

Now I KNOW he's not talking to me. The MADC has more courses with SSAs above 63 than anywhere and more going in every year. Just ask David Devine...

Seneca
Patapsco
Nockamixon
Tyler
Knob Hill
Warwick
Akron
Kennett Square
Moraine
Gaw
Whippin Post
Woodshed...

The circles can be part of the rules in that you need to indicate that a penalty was incurred. These penalties, I'm pretty sure are supposed to be noted on the TD Report. This more for the PDGA Ratings than to spread the word about bad little girls and boys.

804.03 Scoring
D. Warnings and penalty throws given to a player for rules infractions shall be noted on the scorecard.

Something, I've rarely seen done...

It's a California thing. :D:D

Yeah we're crazy like that out here :D
we also pay someone when they get a ace ( hole in one ) ;)

Hey we do that in MI too!!! But we dont circle the birdies. I like to put a P next to the holes with penatlies instead of circling the score. I mean if Rhett used circles for every OB he took at USDGC he might not have enough room for the actual number on some holes

Wow, you should come out and play golf in SoCal sometime. We put a "p" next to the score when an OB penalty is incurred.

I also note any and all warning/penalties for rules infractions on the scorecard.

I guess we follow the rules and you MADC guys don't. :)

LOL!

You could be right, couldn't tell you about Cali golfers and rules compliance. If a "p" makes you more in compliance with the rules than a circle you guys are the model of rules followers for sure. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

No, using a circle for birdies makes us golfers, and using a "p" for OBs and noting all other penalties on the scorecard make us compliant. :)

Next time I'm playing ball golf I'll remember to use circles as birdie marks.

When playing disc golf any mark will do for penalty throws or violations and circling or any mark other than score is considered "an incorrect hole or total score and is subject to penalty as described in 804.03.G(2)." Hopefully you mark the score also with your "unecessary and possibly illegal" circle birdie mark. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
