there's a superb player re-emerging in the western kentucky area. always a threat on the advanced masters lead card in EVERY tournament he plays, ernie small is by far the best candidate for team innova. no one has any idea of how powerful and dominant of a golfer this retired psychologist is, but believe me when i say that this man truly puts the "GA!!!" in gazelle. coming to a course near you, ern dog will simply "dog" all of the competition with his breathtaking 200' cobra shots, impressive thumber rollin' rhynos and most of all his RIDICULOUS luck. too bad he putts exclusively with SOFT MAGNETS???

By far?, Hmmmm maybe a little bias? I am the "Hottest golfer not sponsored" according to MS World Rankings...Everyone ahead of me is a sponsored player.

Time for TanK to get a little love...

Plus, Innova wants people that travel and play tournies and to be a face out there. I played 4 more santioned tournies last year, 25, than he has in the past 7 years...

This year will be more....

Did I mention, I plan on winning Worlds?

Yeah but the rankings are biased towards big events. You can be way up on the list with only one event.

That's a lot of events big fella. :DThe reason the ranking system is iffy with me is that the field size is such a huge factor. I took 3rd at a b-tier this weekend but dropped on the list because the two guys that beat me were ranked and the other guys don't count.

The fact that Innova has JJ who has won a super tour in open and finished 2nd in an NT in open and has cashed at every USDGC he has played (inlcuding being the only person to ever deny cash in the event) and won an am worlds by 19 strokes on the same team with someone who has never finished higher than 3rd in advanced should answer everyones question when they ask me "why do you not want to sponsored by Innova?"

dave_marchant
Apr 23 2007, 03:54 PM
Like you see in that video, he is a world class hydrofoiler (and kneeboarder too). I think his experience will carry over in a way that will benefit Innova: He has the drive (pun intended), physical tools, and mind to be a top player; and (he mentioned this to me this morning) is that he has ideas on how to use his experience and exposure from his "fame"/reputation (my word, not his) in that niche to help grow the sport of DG into new areas.

Why would you deny Gateway or Discraft, and how many times have they asked to sponsor you?

MTL21676
Apr 23 2007, 07:41 PM
I have talked more with Gateway than anyone.

I at one point was briefly talking with Discraft too.

I just do not want to be limited in what discs I throw. I hear too many Innova players talk about how much they wish they had the Buzzz and the Wizard and I hear too many Discraft players talk about missing the Roc and the Teebird.

Not being sponsored, I have the option to throw any disc I so choose, and I personally like it that way. Not saying that my decision is by any means the majority, in fact it is the extreme minority, but it is just what I feel is best for me.

1st, I'd like to say that I like JJ.
With that being said,... MTL, IF YOU were to sponsor a player and they left you for a competitor, then came back, Would you be just a little bit worried he might just leave again? Maybe, (this is just conjecture on my part) Innova is just testing the waters, so to speak. Like a trial run, just to see if he will stay around, then maybe they'll move him up. I think he's pretty lucky that Innova took him back. Hopefully, everything will work out for the best.

No, I used the Max to finish par-par-par-par-par, when everyone else was going bogey-double bogey-par-bogey-bogey...

The D-craft guys were flipping brand new Preds, OB, into that 40mph heady. The Max released nice and flat carring 400+, INBOUNDS...

It was so windy, I was laying up from 30-35 feet with a Champion Firechicken and setting in my AVIAR to get all my pars...

Looks like the tournament director or whoever uploaded those tournament results didn't know how to add course layouts into the PDGA Live Tournament Administration so that par would be correct. Looks like SSA was around 60 in the first round at the first course and 63.5 in the second round at the other course.

Mr. LaGrassa, don't jump to erroneous conclusions without knowing the facts.

First of all, I uploaded the results, and I know exactly what I'm doing. The wind was blowing anywhere from 20 to 50 mph that day, so the courses were playing unbelievably tough.

I didn't bother uploading the par, because frankly, I just wanted to get the results up, it's not my event, I was doing a favor for the TD, and I had limited free time to do so. Secondly, there aren't that many true par 4s on these courses....the conditions were just THAT brutal.

Lastly, the conditions were much more difficult in round 2 than in round one. Average sustained winds in round 1 were about 18-20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. Round 2 saw averages sustained winds at 30mph, with gusts up to 55mph.

Actually, that 55 (at Graceland University) was FOUR strokes better than the best Open score on the same course. The Advanced played Graceland in the morning, pros played it in the afternoon in much tougher conditions as previously stated.

I was contacted by Sam Ferrans last weekend and was offered a spot and Team Innova's scout team and accepted. Next update, 1000+ rating and hopefully make the Sponsored Team.

Thanks for all the love guys and gal. It's really gratifying to see my hard work pay off. It's good to check off another '07 goal ( final 9 in a Supertour and join Innova).

Now onto top 25 at my first ever World's.

I think they need to give some serious consideration to "The Terminator", Dallas Albright #31173. He went from playing at our local courses ( Ukiah, Ca ) to skipping all divisions and jumping right in to pro tournys this year and is doing well.
Hes a Young (22) year old from NORCAL innova throwing discgolfer. Kid is poor but good and needs to get a sponsor. He even once was on the street with a sign that said "will work for new plastic" because he couldnt afford a new innova disc.

He hasn't been playing for much longer than four or five years. In the PDGA about two years. He's the top sixty rating wise right now, and he's not slowing down! If Innova sponsored him, I am sure he would tear it up on tour.

Ya, I will be at the 14th annual ACTA. You should definately come east for it and bring some friends. You will enjoy how DG is changing here in Omaha and surrounding areas.

Actually, Hummel is one of our next option sites for a new course, We are in the final stages of installing a new course in Bellevue at Jewell park also.

MTChristian
Jul 17 2007, 05:35 PM
I have played a bunch of rounds with Monty Koz...Koz's thumber is more accurate than it is long...he even prefers thumbers for most upshots. "Koz golf" as he puts it is: 300' thumber off the tee, low 150' thumber to the pin, tap out...pretty effective at generating pars and getting the birdies that are reachable with a thumber. I haven't seen Schweb's thumber but I have seen a few people with comparable thumber distance to Koz (myself included). Koz sure wins for accuracy with it though. Thread drift...

Remembering the actual thread topic, Innova's website says they sponsor top "regional pros"...what does this mean, and are there any examples people can think of? Seems like they mostly just sponsor the best players, location irrelevant...I just made it to 1000 and being from Montana I'm sure I'd count as a top "regional" pro, but probably wouldn't be considered for Innova if I lived in an area with better disc golf...just curious.

I've played with both Koz and Schwebby...

Yes, Schwebby is the best thumber in the world.

I honestly think that Billy Crump is the most accurate and I really think that Koz can throw it farther than schweb, but Schweb is by far the best combination of the two.

I have thrown over 400 a couple times. But for basic thumbers and wooded thumber shots I use a Firebird and a Leopeard , both Champion. I have been experimenting with the Stae Whippet X and it is definitely going farther with much more ease than my Firebirds. At least 20 more feet.

Kris Orrick or Will Schusterick

JHBlader86

Kris Orrick or Will Schusterick

Will Schusterick will definitely be a real contender for the top titles in a few years. I play with his dad at tournaments sometimes, but talk to Will in between rounds and he's a really cool kid.

Also, whenever Blair Bose goes pro in a few years he'll be a tough player as well. He transitioned to advance after winning the Rocket City Super Tournament, and he is always a threat to any player at a tournemtn.

And I have to say my friend Justin Moore will be a huge threat when he goes pro after next years BG Ams. His stats are amazing. Check them out here! (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/playerstats.php)

Although when he goes pro he'll more than likely go for Discraft sponsorship since that is mainly what he throws, but who knows?

ChrisWoj
Oct 14 2007, 09:27 PM
Blair and Will are both cool kids. I remember a year and a half ago watching them play in Intermediate at BG Ams. I believe someone from my area asked Will for his autograph and told him it'd be worth something one day, Will said it was the first time he'd ever been asked for an autograph. :)

With the way his rating has rocketed up I have a feeling he's going to make it worth something one day in disc circles.

Innova picks up the phone saying "Innova Champion." Everyone who's sponsored by innova thanks "Innova Champion," including people who are on Team Star...you've never heard anyone thank "Innova Scout," have you? The name of the company is Innova Champion Discs. Of COURSE they have multiple levels of sponsorship, and as an inexperienced and newly sponsored player I'll be starting at the bottom of the ladder (and rightly so...I wouldn't have a shot at being "champion" of the scout team!) What, like I didn't know that Innova has different levels of sponsorship?

Trotter and Christian. i am not trying to make a big deal about this and i know the company is called innova champion. my post previoulsy was to address the post submitted above christians post that stated he was already on team champion. there is a Champion team that i am assuming you being sponsored by innova know about and i am sure that the "Champion" sponsorship is a little sweeter and different than You trotterj ust being on the sponsored team. there is a different level of sponsorship and while you and christian being much better golfers than i am (and i am stoked for both of you for being on one of the greatest teams in the sport) you are not on "Team Champion" if you where your name would be in the "Team Champion" Box on this web site Sponsored Players (http://www.innovadiscs.com/team/index.html) No ill will meant guys and sorry to rain on Christian's parade i was only trying to clarify a statment made on the previous page. This should not be a hard concept to grasp it seems pretty cut and dry to me but i could be wrong Congrats to all!!

David,

I have to 2nd this. If Rob went on tour he could do some damage. From August to October he's been super hot. Adding the Homie and Channy results he's probably played 1020+ golf thru that stretch. He seemed to tone it down a little this year and had more of a positive attitude. It really showed on the course and his putting is as good as anyone when he's relaxed. That 01 Roc is a deadly weapon for him.

I wish we had a disc golf reality show. Throw Rob with the top players in the world and we have some real entertainment :D.

Chris_Sprague
Nov 26 2007, 12:01 PM
That's for sure - he's been playing strong golf and seems "made for TV"

Rob did throw in some huge shots in the two tournaments I played with him. But being dialed on 40ft putts because you leave alot of 40ft putts is probably his achille's heel. Sorry Rob

- bring it on next year! :)

Played with him a few times and this is an understatement. Still dont understand how some people can get so angry over an off shot or missed putt. Its disc golf peeples.

Thats where mental strenth comes into play. That's the toughest part for most golfers that have the good physical game...

A good mental game takes you to that other level...
