Bad, bad news... Some *sshole stole the tops and the buckets to 13 of the baskets out at Bear Creek... If anyone has any info that would help recover the baskets please let me know. I don't see how 13 tops and 13 buckets can be taken and noone see anything. Looks like all the baskets at the front of the course close to the highway are still there so they must have loaded them at the nieborhood entrance...
Wait wait wait, Bear Creek in Houston? I did'nt know they had a park. I am going there this weekend and looks like I wont be able to play 18. :mad:Is this the right Location?

I believe he is talking about Bear Creek in Grapevine, TX and that is F&CKING WRONG
We had 10 play out there Saturday and all the course was there. Someone needs to pay for this!
That will make that entire course practically useless until they can be replaced.
*#($&%
Sorry, should have said Bear Creek in Grapevine Tx... This is bull sh*t, we just had a whole basket stolen at Veterans and now parts of thirteen at the Creek... I could believe one with noone seeing anything but thirteen, someone had to see something...

well if it had to happen i'm glad it was grapevine. because from what i hear the city really likes that course and this is now a felony theft :mad:so you can bet there will be an investigation. like pepper said somebody had to see and hear something. unless by some off chance the city is pulling them. if not maybe some justice will finally come to some of these retards going around and stealing baskets. this would definitely be a felony.

Yes...13 buckets and tops in the back of a truck would make one heck of a noise. That is plain sad. What a great course!
Holy crap!!! This bites big time. Find this guy (or guys) and lock them up.
I can't even move my practice basket without making a racket...how could you move 13 of them and no one hear???
Obviously it sounds like someone is building a course..... How many people can have thier own course without inviting a few to play. Keep your eyes and ears open!
These baskets will be found and then there should be a lynching! I vote for a public hanging!

Dec 15 2004, 05:27 PM
Exactly. You never see all the stolen buckets trying to be sold on ebay or anywhere else for that matter. People are putting in their own 18.
They better had a tight circle of scumbag friends. Stealing 13 goals is the worst I have ever heard of.
My guess is that this is the same scumbag that ripped #2 at the Vet also. The good thing about that is a basket from the Vet is very distinguishable with the size of the catching zone as well as the # sign on top of the bucket. If you find one I bet you find all of them. Everyone please keep an eye out because this ******* still may be looking for 4 more.

Dec 15 2004, 05:34 PM
Note to everyone else: Make sure you or your Park Depts put a simple tack weld on the top of all your baskets so at least this 'easy' theft can be avoided. That happened in MN once or twice but fortunately only for one basket. Since then, the tack welds have at least prevented this type of theft. You also need to do a small tack on the anchor collars otherwise the whole basket can be unbolted there and easily slipped out.
Good luck getting those back. Take heart, nine complete baskets were stolen at Seneca in MD a while back and they did find them and get them back.

Dec 15 2004, 06:24 PM
I have Stamping kits so the collars of the parts can be stamped with the course name. It can be ground off, but not without making it obvious that it was done.
Silly question, but what effect does this have on the Poison Ivy Open, coming up in a couple of weeks? Can baskets be ordered and installed by then, or do we use temps?

Sounds like everything except the poles....now we have to go back to object golfing
You are correct, from what I have been told 1,4,5,6,8,12,13,14,17 were left in tact... Looks like only 10 of the 18 buckets and tops were stolen. Grapevine parks and rec are pulling the rest of the tops and bottoms off now so no more to the baskets are stolen... They are going to replace the pieces missing and weld them to the polls, also putting up lock boxes from what Micheal that runs the mini's tells me... I don't know the time frame that this will happen in but the poles will be left so if you would like you can play object golf until they are finished. I hope we can get the course back up before the tourney

Last Tuesday I went there to play and I tend to warm up my putter on hole 18. I saw the pole with no basket and chains I texted Michael and He told me that it will replaced next week. So, I walked around and found nine with no baskets and chains (2,3,7,9,10,11,15,16,18). Are you saying it is stolen???? **** mofos! I will be there and keep my eyes on those mofos I love those course I played there for three years and consider my home course! I am so ****** off :mad:If I find them and I will make them cry with my sign language :DHope it will be replace real soon. I miss my home course! Now I go to Vets for while. I see that Hole 2 basket is stolen. SIGH! Happy holidays

this is very sad. hopefully the city doesnt decide to pull the course.
bear creek seems to have alot of sketchy people that play there. hopefully these f*cks can be tracked down and charged with a felony.
That is sad it is one of my favorite courses in dallas.....i'm all for the death penlty..
Too Sad, I was starting to play that course more often and really like it. I pray that they get replaced, and I pray thet thief gets what he deserves.
Having your own course of stolen catchers would suck because you couldn't have people over to play without someone getting suspicious. So assuming they were bright enough to get 13 chains and baskets out the park without NE1 knowing (I don't see it being possible but..) It's safe to say they wouldn't be dumb enough to set it up around here ... I'm curious, what if this wasn't someone building a course, but some scrounging [*****]hole trying to make a quick buck off the materials, like selling it at a scrap yard or something.
We need to spread the word to other players as we play different courses that might not read this borad and EVERYONE watch for any courses (and current course expansions) springing up.
I heard about this tonight on the 6:00pm channel 5 news. They did a little story and showed some of the pulled baskets. They said that a $1000.00 reward is being offered for any information that leads to the recovery of the baskets.
This is not the way we want to get on the news. But, Maybe the story will turn up some leads.

We were discussing a possible lead last night that we are looking into... I can not say anything until we have either rulled out the suspected or cleared up the rumors that are stirring... There are several ADGA members that believe that the Fritz basket (stolen a couple months ago), the Veterans bucket (stolen a couple weeks ago) and Grapevine could poss be related or by the same person... I want to give you an update on The DFW Disc Golf Food Drive.
DFW Food Drive Event #2 The Z Boaz Course Championship / 2004 Bag Tag Championship / First Ever Good Times Chili Cook Off Sunday January 2, 2005 at Z Boaz.
DFW Food Drive Event #3 The Poison Ivy Open Saturday January 8, 2005 at Bear Creek.
The Baskets at Bear Creek.
First some good news.
The Baskets at Bear Creek will be replaced! The replacements have been ordered and will be delivered very soon, the DGA has promised me they will be here in time for The PIO on January 8. The Grapevine PD is all over this, I have called with tips two times and he already knows about it and has checked it out. The city is working on a new lock protector to try to keep the lock from being cut with a bolt cutter. They are going to weld the pieces of the basket together as well. This is good and bad news, until the precautions are taken the baskets will not be in the ground overnight. This will eliminate the Friday Doubles for this event. We will have to put the baskets in on Saturday morning and remove them on Saturday evening. We will need some extra help on this so if you are inclined please get there early to help out.
The Z Boaz Course Championship/2004 Bag Tag Championship/ First Ever Good Times Chili Cook Off
Sunday January 2, 2005 at Z Boaz in Fort Worth will be a busy and potentially HOT day on the course. During DFW Food Drive Event#2 we will be crowning the Course Champions as well as Bag Tag Champions for each division. We will also Crown the first ever Good Times Chili Champion. The players meeting will get under way at 9 am with all participants playing 36 holes for the day. You will see action from the long tee's as well as the short tee's and a verity of pin placements. You do not have to have a Bag Tag to participate in this event, however they will be available at the event. The money raised form The Bag Tag 2004 as well as the next go round in 2005 will go toward a new course in Ft Worth in the very near future. You will have ample opportunity to challenge in your entire division. The Course Champions as well as the Bag Tag champions will receive a personalized custom metal mini trophy. More details are available here www.maceman.com. (http://www.maceman.com.) You can register online at www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com) or www.maceman.com. (http://www.maceman.com.)
The Good Times Chili Cook Off is open to everyone and is free to enter...sort of. Your entry fee is your entry in the competition, your chili. If you have "The Best Chili Ever" than get a big pot together and bring it out for the judges to decide. We will be equipped to keep it warm until lunch. The judges for this contest will be everyone that is not competing in it. It will be decided by secret vote. There will be a collection from the judges and it will be divided between the Food Bank and the winner. There will also be a one of a kind personalized trophy disc for the winner.
The Third Poison Ivy Open
Saturday January 8, 2005 at Bear Creek in Grapevine TX. DFW Food Drive Event #3 is a PDGA C-tier event . You will see two rounds of 21, with a players meeting starting at 9am. There is no light in this parking lot so we will be following the schedule very closely in order to get everything in before dark. This event will host all divisions with a three person minimum to make a division. As is the case with all DFW Food Drive Events, the divisional winners will receive a personalized custom metal mini trophy. More details are available here www.maceman.com. (http://www.maceman.com.) You can register online at www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com) or www.maceman.com. (http://www.maceman.com.)

dang long walk! Maybe I put the deafs only sign by pipe. :p Last Summer I onced fell down from the pipe. Lucky it was only foot water. :o
I was actually talking to the individuals in question right before they they crossed the pipe after teeing off on hole one... I was enjoying my lunch, had to get away from my desk :DI am lucky, I am to scared to cross the pipe since I broke my leg in 97... Funny thing was I didn't even see them get stopped, did see the cop stalking in the bushes when I was leaving  I was a little supprised to see him peeping his fat head out of the shule
Glad to hear it. I'm looking forward to getting back out there. Heading out to Cedar Hill on Saturday to pass the time and check the courses out.
I quit walking the pipe on one after I nearly fell and invisioned smacking my teeth on it on the way by. I had a friend faint and come down on a tile floor with her chin, pushing her teeth together and shattering several. After seeing all she went through to get that fixed and how much pain it caused her, I'm probably a little phobic. I've learned to enjoy the long walk around. :D

Black Lab Retrieves Pot, Causes Owner's Drug Arrest
Dog Wades Into Creek, Retrieves Pot, Takes It To Officer
POSTED: 8:22 am CST February 16, 2005
UPDATED: 8:50 am CST February 16, 2005
GRAPEVINE, Texas -- JD the Labrador Retriever meant well, but he has landed his owner in a mess of trouble.
Police said his owner, Matthew Porter, of Richland Hills, was playing Frisbee golf with two friends at a suburban Dallas-Fort Worth course Monday when a police officer arrived.
The officer thought he smelled burning marijuana, so he asked the men for identification and began checking for outstanding warrants.
JD, apparently sensing the party was over, waded into nearby Bear Creek, retrieved a plastic bag containing pot and brought it to the officer.
The black Lab's 25-year-old owner was charged with possessing drug paraphernalia. Micah Hays, 24, was charged with marijuana possession. The third member of the party -- a 31-year-old Mansfield man -- wasn't charged. JD was turned over to him.

Idiots like that will get courses pulled, and to think they did this within days of when the baskets were back in the ground.

Yes, one of my sponsors already has stopped sponsoring, his reasoning was because the "smoking Players just don't get it and I can't keep supporting them"

Feb 17 2005, 04:29 PM
Well said Bryan...if you must smoke your bowl, don't do it on the course. Do it at home, do it at a friend's house, do it in the deepest part of the woods, but don't do it on the middle of a course. I've randomly met cops that I played a round with and I was just praying that we didn't run into anyone lighting up because I knew it would make the news.
Yeah it's illegal and maybe it shouldn't be, but those are the rules, and if we ever want DG to get the attention it deserves, we have to play by the rules! For every guy caught with a bag of weed on the course, we have to help 10 food banks and help 10 little old ladies cross the street to make up for the image. Please use judgement and be discreet...what really sucks is the people that need to hear this are the kids that don't care enough for the sport to be reading online discussion boards about it!

shoeless one, you are forgetting one point, Ball golf courses are not open to the public, you have to pay to be out there.
As stated here, there are those that call this game "Stoner Golf", personally, I don't resemble that remark.
yes, I understand that the tournament players are getting good about not lighting up at the course. I have not seen or smelled anything in a while now. (it is really nice BTW)
But now may be the time to start saying something to the rec park user about not doing it on the course if they enjoy the game. Or at least go to a private course that allowes that type of behavior.

>>shoeless one, you are forgetting one point, Ball golf courses are not open to the public, you have to pay to be out there.
I don't think you can link responsibility with whether or not you paid to play. The blame for this lies squarely on the shoulders of the perpetrators. The PDGA can and does discourage this activity at it's events by the threat of both disqualification at the said event and suspension from further events.

Maybe we should ask ourselves how it is that snowboarding, our cousin stoner sport, has gained respectiblity? Same goes for skateboarding. While most businesses are so afraid of anyone 'tarnishing their image' (see Coke paying Jesse Jackson millions so he won't say they were racist) there are enough businesses that understand that prohibition is a waste of our national resources. We need to do a better job of supporting them. The 'stoner' issue isn't going to get any better if we keep hiding in the closet. If you believe the DEA's estimate of the dollar value of weed grown in this country ($140 billion), everyone in the US has to be smoking to consure that volume. 30% of college students smoke in the latest AP survey. It's time we as a nation were honest with ourselves and stopped hunting down people for their personal choices. Nothings going to change if we just keep going along with the 'new puritans'.
That said, did you see that Carp Fishing got a front page story in the Wall Street Journal this week? Why? Because they're offering a $1 million prize in a fishing tournament. Know how many members the American Carp Fishing Association has? 700! Want disc golf to get some attention? Lets figure how we run a tournament where we can offer $1 million to first place. Ball golf gained national recognition with a similar stunt in the 1920's.

Feb 18 2005, 06:59 PM
Maybe its not as recognized due to the cost factor. Corporate america has no time for a game you can play for the cost of a couple of discs(10-20 bucks), not when compared to buying a snowboard and its gotta-have accessories(400 bucks plus). If they can't make a mint off of us why would they bother?
On a side note imagine a tourney sponsored by NORML
You know maybe it's time we just embraced our 'alternative' image instead of trying to hide from it. At least, maybe we need an 'alternative' branch of disc golf to accomodate those of us who are comfortable with it. Yes, I'm sure NORML would be able to throw some cash towards a group that is generally supportive. Why not JOB, EZwider, etc. as well? Unfortunately, I imagine if we had the NORML/JOB $1 million dollar disc golf challenge we'd find DEA and ATF agents hiding in the bushes at every event. Got to justify those paychecks somehow.
I'm not sure if this is in anyway related to the event at Bear Creek, but the Carrollton police drove around Porter a few more times than usual during last night's glow doubles.

Snowboarding our cousin stoner sport??? I don't think so. Same with Skateboarding. I know a few guys who skate board and only one of them smoke.
Also, when you are at a skate park, you don't partake.
Both get TV time because they are fun to watch. 90% of the people who snowboard or skateboard can not do what those Pro's do without breaking there necks. And I guarantee those pro's are not doing those tricks STONED.
I have watched both snow boarding (in fact this last weekend) and skateboarding on TV, I never saw anyone toking it up :D

so true Greenbeard. discs golf is the poor mans sport. We don't spend the money to play like other sports.
(to carp fish, you need a boat and fishing gear, these things are not cheap)
Just to give you an idea, a friend of mine is a pro Bass fisherman. He won a boat and truck at a tournament several years ago. Very nice matching paint jobs.
I have another friend (and former boss) who spends his summers up north going from Trout tournament to Trout tournament. In fact, we were both in WI in 1998, I was playing Am worlds, and he was at a Trout Fishing tournament.

Gas is a big expence, but only the oil drilling companies make any real money. (gas stations only make a vew cents on the dollar)
As far as other expences, I eat cheap and usually find a floor to crash on when traveling, so I don't spent much more than entry fee on everything else (other than gas)

I skateboarded for fourteen years all over this country and if the percentage of people I met that were "stoners" justify a stoner sport, then every sport is a stoner sport except for maybe shuffleboard. With the number of glaucoma patients that play that sport though, you never know............. If you think a lot of disc golfers you know are broke, most of the guys I rode with were truly lower middle-class/poverty line and saved every dime (which usually totalled about 30 cents any given week) because they were just one bomb drop away from needing a new deck. Money seemed so scarce too for many in the late 80's, regardless of what Reagan was trying to say. That blowhard and his Reagonomics/Trickle down theory did not, and was not going to work. Now, maybe Ronald Reagan was a stoner? He sat around, got nothing done for the most part, and had this sh$t eating grin on his face all the time. It's a good thing that GWBush worships Reagan! The last thing most skaters were going to spend that dime on was drugs, not that there wasn't drug use, but it wasn't like cocaine at a disco. For a lot of people I knew, skateboarding was more important then food or family. Which is why I can relate so well with disc golf sometimes, because it seems so many of us are addicted to our hobby. In that way dg/sn/sk have so many similarities.
But what skateboarding had to make it big that disc golf doesn't, is snowboarding. Yes, snowboarding. It's true that for all practical popular purposes the lineage started with surfing, then skateboarding, then snowboarding, but it was snowboarding that had enough rich white kids to drag skateboarding to the popular media merchandising surface with it. This, in part, was also due to snowboarding being somewhat socially acceptable because those kids were pretty clean cut, and it was connected to skiing. And just look at statistics from ski resorts and see how much money snowboarding brought them. I tried skiing, it was fun. I snowboarded and almost sold everything I owned to move to Denver!
But see, unlike skateboarding with snowboarding, disc golf isn't as closely tied with ball golf. Sk/Sn co-exist well because many skaters snowboard, and vice versa. Alot of snowboarding items were made by skate companies, etc. Disc golf and ball golf don't co-exist. Any why would they? Ball golf is already hugely popular, what does it need disc golf for? And for that matter, what do we need ball golf for? Disc golf on a ball golf course is about the most boring thing I can think of. Think of the quarter mile hole at USDGC, but without the OB rope. Exactly. In twenty to a hundred years when dg is popular, I think ball golf courses may change a bit because people will see all the things we can do with a disc and the different types of holes, and they may decide to spice up golf a bit.
There are a couple of reasons skateboarding/snowbaording have grown in popularity. The main reason being merchandising$$$$ The next reason being it is exciting to watch (which I also believe disc golf can be). Once corporate America realized there was a sh$t load of merchandise and items they could connect with those sports......well, needless to say, let the branding begin. But, you have to understand that skateboarders were never going to accept corporate America (and still really don't). Now snowboarders were another story, their mom and dad were corporate America! In the 80's/early 90's (Unless you lived on the west coast, parts of florida, or parts of the east coast) if you saw someone wearing a pair of airwalk, vision streetwear, or vans shoes, there was a 99.9% chance they skated. Now if you see someone wearing a brand of skate shoes, it's just as likely that their mom took them shopping at Hot Topic in the mall.
I've been playing dg for a little over four years now. After the first six months of playing, browsing the web, I recognized the similarities of between dg and skateboarding in the late 80's. I've always been surprised that Innova & Discraft haven't tried to make clothing lines, shoe lines, etc, or anyone else for that matter. You're not going to get rich on it just yet, but when the ship comes in, you or your children, or grandchildren will be glad you started your little disc golfing shoe business. It's the same thing with Ken Climo. The guy is probably one of the most amazing athletes of the last century, and there are no hats, shirts, or bags with his name on them. Is this not America??? You know how many nascar driver t-shirts I see? On one hand that is what I love about this sport, but to me, the body of this sport is way more likey to embrace "selling out" then skateboarding ever was (or still is for that matter).
Believe me, I could wax philosophical on these topics forever, but my fingers hurt..............

Dont you have hole # 21 to go clear? :D
I wish people would get away from their ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN(communist news network), BBC, and Al Jezeera. There is a whole world of knowledge out there and most not slanted way left like the previously mentioned. As for Reagan, economists will explain just how Reaganomics worked wonderfully. You have to study and dig for the answers because CNN won't tell you that. Remember the Liberals phrase"the rich got richer and poor got poorer"? Most people are brainwashed into thinking that meant the 80's. Brainwashing is the repeat of a lie over and over till people believe it as the truth. Well what is the only period since WW11 that the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer did not happen? That's right....a 5 year peoiod during the 80's. Economists always adjust for inflation in those stats....except when Reagan was prez. The only period since WW11 that the rich got richer, the poor got richer, and the middle class got richer when adjusted for inflation. There is a whole different world out there when people get away from the mainstream press. It just takes effort and time to find it.
Great Illustration on Taxation
Tax Cuts - A Simple Lesson in Economics
Let's put tax cuts in terms everyone can understand. Suppose that every day, ten men go out for dinner. The bill for all ten comes to $100.
If they paid their bill, proportional to current tax demographics, it would go something like this:
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.
So, that's what they decided to do.
The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve.
"Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20."
So now dinner for the ten only cost $80.
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes. So the first four men were unaffected. They would still eat for free. But what about the other six, the paying customers? How could they divvy up the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his "fair share?" The six men realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being "paid" to eat their meal.
So the restaurant owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay:
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings).
The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead $59 (16% savings).
Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to eat for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.
"I only got a dollar out of the $20," declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth. "But he got $10!"
"Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than me!"
"That's true!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!"
"Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!" The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn't show up for dinner, so the nine sat down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have! enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!
And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction.
Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up at the table anymore. There are lots of good restaurants in Europe and the Caribbean.
So..... am I gonna get taxed for PLAYING DISC GOLF AT BEAR CREEK? :D

Okay......there was a little discrepancy with the ace pot value. Somehow it wasn't as high as advertised on this board. I may have been hearing the wrong total everyweek for the last few weeks, or some cash grew some legs and walked away. I seriously doubt that the csh grew legs b/c the group that runs the mini are stand up, honest people. I also seriously doubt that i heard the wrong amount for the last month, thus the discrepancy.
Here's what i do know:
The ace pot grew to $497 last night. Nobody hit it, so it will go WAY over $550 for the next mini. See you there!

I have a formula that works pretty well out there. Take the # of short boxes you play, divide by 2, then go 2 lower. So last night 12short boxes divided by 2 = 6 then 2 lower = 8......... 8 down will be close to winning, if not 1st place. Looks like you played to my formula, i just was driving the disc perfectly. That's right, NO ACE last night. The pot grew to $713. It should go well over $800 on 9/14/05....when the Wed night mini resumes.
Chris is right, there will be lots of aces next week during the Discraft ONE disc ACE RACE. 1st place will win an embriodered Discraft bag with 10 Z-disc prototypes, plus a few extras. Also, if you hit an ace, and do not win, you will receive a Z-disc that says "I aced at the 2005 Ace Race." Please join us next Wed (9/7/05) for ONE fun time!

We had 36 participants at Bear Creek, that's more folks than our biggest mini this year. Thanks for the support.
I got lucky, and won with 2 aces and 2 metal hits. :DHowever, as always, i never accept 1st place at an event that i'm hosting......so the GRAND PRIZE was passed down to 2nd place. GARY SHUGART wins Bear Creek's ACE RACE with 1 ace and 2 metal hits. Congrats GARY. Enjoy that $300 GRAND PRIZE!
Look for 2 more ace races in the DFW area.

The Wed night mini will resume this week. The ace pot starts at $713 and will grow to well over $800. There will be a lot of people there this week......SO GET THERE EARLY so we can start ON TIME.......PEPPER! :)
Also, expect a long course. I am expecting a difficult layout. An ace will definitly be EARNED .......we are NOT going to just GIVE IT AWAY like hole #16 at Arlington (2 aces totalling $3500 in 5 weeks.) As always, you are shooting at 80% of the ace pot, 20% stays for next week. :p

Yea, he told me.
My formula said that a -7 would be a competitive score for 1st place. I went out there and bagged 9 birds, but had 2 bogeys, and shot a -7. I was happy with that especially since the last 5 holes were in the complete dark. To hear Rose shot a -12 with one bogey was INSANE! That's a 1050ish round!!!!
Rose -12
Geesa -10 !!!!!
Sillamen -8

Jason hasn't renewed the web site since he got the poker bug that the rest of the country seems to be catching. He might not even play DG anymore, or own any discs depending on how well his poker skills are.
As for discs with a Bear Creek stamp, you'd need to talk to Brian Mace. He runs a few sanctioned events there, and would be the only one who might have some left over stock.

I will be visiting relatives this weekend in Euless TX. Me and my daughter Nicole (SuperGirl) are planning to play the Bear Creek course (in Grapevine TX) on Saturday morning. We have never played this course, so I have a few questions.
1. Does the course have tee signs and is it easy to follow?
2. What is the average score for a junior girl or rec woman player? Nicole likes to have a goal to shoot for when she plays.
3. Is it a popular course?
Thanks...........Rick

Mar 24 2006, 04:50 PM
Might be crowded b/c of a nearby neighborhood and a GREAT looking forecast.
Holes 1-12 have teesigns and distances, and are relatively easy to follow. After hole 12, there is a dead walk back to the parking lot. Holes #13-18 are near the entrance of the park. They make a nice little loop right back to parking.
The course having small greens with some tightly wooded fairways will make it challenging....especially from the long tees.
Look at "The posion ivy open" held in january for womens scores. You might have to check back a year or two to find a JR womens field.

Mar 24 2006, 06:33 PM
Thanks for the info. The 2006 Poison Ivy Open has scores for 3 Rec Women and a Junior < 13 girl. Since my daughter is 10 years old and plays in the rec women's division, this is perfect information.
My only question is how many holes were there in the 2006 Poison Ivy Open. Looking at the scores and the number of players, there was obviously more the 18 holes. It also appears round one was from the long tees and round two was from the short tees.
Thanks again for your reply. It sounds like a good course and a popular one. We will be starting our round tomorrow around 9:30am, so hopefully it won't be too crowded.
Thanks.........Rick

It was an absolutely beautiful day last Saturday! My daughter and I really liked the Bear Creek course. I personally had a terrible game (two discs in the creek...on the same hole), and several deep in the trees. But it was still a great day (any day playing disc golf with my daughter is a great day). I just didn't have a great score (60 from the short tees).
It was a good course for my daughter to play on. It forced her to make accurate throws. The courses we play in Houston don't do that. In Houston (on most holes) she just throws the disc as hard as she can and it doesn't really matter if she misses the fairway to the right or to the left (unless she hits a tree). Missing the fairway doesn't effect her score that much. However at Bear Creek she had to focus more on accuracy. She had a good round (she shot a 69 from the short tees) and seemed to think about and plan her throws a little better. On four of the holes she actually had makeable birdie putts (putts of 25 feet or less). She made one birdie (hole 16) and was thrilled. It was only her 3rd deuce ever.
We had a lot of fun and will definitely play Bear Creek again.
Thanks...........Rick

BC's Wed night mini has been divisionless since 1995! You'd be surprised how often Nolan or myself miss the cash out there. Besides, it's mostly local boys that aren't even PDGA members or tournament players that are tough to beat. They want to play for cash, so we play for cash. When in Rome...........

If you get a big group of Am's to come out, they(we) will offer the division. Mace(if he's there), or myself (Discraft only) will handle the plastic payout.

I was extremely happy to see it fall to a regular Wed nighter.
It won't be too long before it's up there again. The entry is $8, $5 for the payout, and $3 for the ace pot. There is no more course fund b/c the wonderful city of Grapevine gives us anything that we ask for within reason. Scorecards and mini sheets are donated by Xerox. Although, i'm not sure Xerox knows that. :D
