I forgot to mention that the ace pot was hit last Wed night(8 days ago). Can't remember who hit it but they took home $300 after leaving 20%. Why does it always get hit when i'm not there? Stupid surgery!
Last night was the biggest mini of the season. Lots of new faces. Keep coming out, bring your friends, and let's play some disc golf!
With last night's tough format the formula suggested that -4 would be a competitive winning score. Well, IkeyPoo shot -5! However, that was trumped by Hero's -7! :D;)
Come on out to Grapevine on Wed night for a Roc'n good time. (I know but it sounded better than Wasp'n) :D

I was out there yesterday, not for the mini, and I think it has potential to be a really good course. My question is, is there any plans to do trimming out there any time soon. I played from the long tees and some tee shots require you hit a very small gap from a good distance just to makeinto the fairway. Also one teepad had me teeing off almost inside a bush and then I had to keep my shot below 4' or it would hit a limb directly in front of the teepad.
All I'm saying is some minor trimming work would be greatly appreciated.

Before the mini there was an announcement that there is a trimming and trash work day this morning.(Fri 13th) So if you have today off i'm sure your services will be appreciateed.

I don't get to play the course much, but I was down there on Thursday and I had a first, I didn't see one single illegal act occuring. I was kind of shocked. I was heading through the parking lot to the last group of holes and saw a patrol car pull into the parking lot. The cop just pulled around, nodded back at me, and drove out. The course was pretty much litter free. I don't see what the neighborhood is complaining about.

Zero holes in the dark. The formula suggested -6.5 would be a competitive score. Teth shot -6, but Hero shot -9.
Best quote of the night goes to My_New_DISCRAFT_teammate Miles Seaborn, "Why can't i beat you here? I wax you everywhere else but i cant beat you here."
Most shocking moment of the night, Suzy Johnston(16529) was in the parking lot waiting to sign up when i drove up! She's in town for busines. If you don't remember her, she and Ron Russell dated and traveled the country for a few years in the early 00's.

Hero, what's the record for number of Ace's hit during the Bear Creek Ace race and by how many different players?
The card I was on which seemed to be about 20 guys (I forgot to count them all) had 7 total aces by 6 different players. With many other metal hits. We had one stretch during the 2nd round where an Ace was hit by the last thrower on holes 5 and 6 and then the next to last guy hit one on hole 7.
I'm guessing that Alex won with his two but I wasn't able to hang around to hear the final tally.

I ended up tied with a man named Jerry (I think?). We had 2 aces each. Jerry took home the bag and plastic with my ill-fated selection of 'tails' on a coin flip. It was a great time out there. I look forward to participating next year.

First off, we need to give Mike DeVasher a huge round of applause as he TD'd the event in my absence. THANK YOU MIKE D!!!!!
Here's what Mike wrote:
________________________________
John,
It was a tie between Alex Brooks and Jerry Lewis with 2 aces each, no metal hits for either one. I offered them a couple of options for a tie-breaker and they decided on a coin-toiss. Jerry Lewis won the coin-toss and is exceedingly happy at having a real disc golf bag instead of his old clunker and he was thrilled at all the discs that went along with it!! Alex Brooks walked away with the Discraft banner for a consolation prize and he was pretty darn happy to have it, he said it's going up at work for everybody to see.
Mike D.

31 Total players without me or Mike participating. Not bad seeing we only had 3 weeks to get it on the calendar and to advertise. Discraft will be sending me more packs so that those who left without the full package will have theirs soon.
Don, those are tough questions to answer. I do know that i have run 15-20 Ace Races over the last 6 years and i have never had a REAL HONEST WINNER with more than 2 aces and 2 metal hits. Of course there's always Jeremy Stovall, who if you recall, claimed to have hit 4 aces last year, witnessed by his posse of.....well, i'm not going there. Good thing i know a duck when i see one; If you remember i took care of Kevin, the runner-up (REAL WINNER) last year, by hooking him up with $300+ dollars worth of collectable stuff out of my famous closet.
Congrats to the 2 winners; next time call heads! :D

Interesting debate on there John - I was able to make my annual trip to BearCreek on Thanksgiving morning and the park looked great.
A few bad apples on either side of the debate can make a problem, but I think the city knows what they are dealing with. It is much better than in years past and cleaner!!!!

The post by the homeowner who backs up to the park was GREAT.
One of you local golfer needs to contact him and help him keep the park clean and LEGAL. Imagine if the local disc golfers chased out the undesirables the other neighbors complained about.
Trust me, we as disc golfers need to police the casual golfers or we are going to loose more of our parks.
The first time we tried to get a course in Mesquite failed because of the drinking.
We had to move some holes in Carrollton due to drinking, cussing and public urination.
I saw a sign at a course in Arkansas that said if the drinking on the course continued, the course would be pulled.
I for one quit playing Grapevine because of the public smoking, I just don't want to be around it and I could not play out there without smelling it.

For anyone that cares, here's an email being passed around about Bear Creek DGC:
"
Hello,
I ran across your website while searching for local clubs - the note below is what I posted on a forum on dgcoursereview. There is a bit of an ongoing problem with Bear Creek's course and public image. I attended the last P&R board meeting and there didn't seem to be much of an issue but the P&R director still has concerns. Somebody in the neighborhood has the ear of a city councilman, so the problem is sort of unofficial, but real. There is not an active local club connected with this course anymore, and neighborhood issues regarding illicit activity, trash, etc. will occasionally come up.
Your group evidently has some positive experience with city liason so I thought I would bring it to your attention - maybe you can forward the information to people who might be interested? I play some local courses, and live in Grapevine, but don't compete and have no connections in the local disc golf community.
Thanks,
Patrick
The Grapevine Parks and Rec director, Doug Evans, is requesting a meeting with interested golfers this Saturday at 10AM at the Bear Creek course. He has posted a letter at the first tee kiosk to that effect. He is still concerned about keeping the neighborhood happy and trying to involve local players in course care. A good turnout of players to be politely pro-active and request better care of the park, better park cleanup, course upgrades, etc. might shift the attitude from "should there be a course?" to "why isn't the course being better cared for and promoted by the city?". (After playing Turner last week and watching city crews putting in footbridges and bracing up tee-boxes with more dirt and sod, I started thinking Grapevine City could/should do the same)The weather for Saturday morning should be sunny and about 50 degrees, not too cold to play?
Please forward the information to other groups -
Thanks,
Patrick"
