In the past, there were a bunch of things that would qualify you. Like win an A-tier. Or win three monthlies in open. Stuff like that. Then usually there would be about three spots left that went to the top placers in Open at the Course Championships.

I don't think it's written down anywhere or truly formalized. You know, kinda like the Pirate Code. They're really like suggestions. :)

I know it's hypothetical, but I am playing Open in the Course Championship for the early experience and the chance to make the team, ...and I was wondering if there were ams from other places who played well enough to compete.

I'm kind of like an Am Playing Pro :D

My rating has been on the slide, and I rarely play well in tournments since I've started playing in Open.

But experience aside, I'm probably the closest thing SC has to an Am going. I wanted to do this tourney for some time. I have tried out and practiced with the team for years. My tournament play this year did not qualify me, but my day to day play, and work for the club got me the nod. Plus a few people lobbied for me, and my good friend Jim passed in order to let me have this opportunity.

I am very grateful. I play well at Skins & Match play, so I hope to not let my team down. But mostly I think we'll have a lot of fun and I'm honored to offically be on the Santa Cruz team

Just because a disc golf course is on a ball golf course doesn't mean it is Fly-18.

But EI was installed by Reese. It's an executive par-56 and is sweet. $7 to play during the week. Carts are $8 each extra.

I think I can reach most of the holes at Morley without a lot of steps on the tee, which increases my percentage of greens & fairways hit, so I'll need to work on my timming for that/ :D

It IS the most TALENTED FIELD for ANY event in the nation other than Worlds or USDGC.
ANYONE can win at Match Play...Its all about those 12 holes.

Id say it will be a toss up between Redwood, SD, Sylmar and La Ma. Its the head to head matches that will make ALL the difference.

Part of the "Fun" is NOT knowing where your competitors will put their players. All we know is 7 Open 3 Masters 1 GM and 1 Women.

Some teams do rank top to bottom...Some teams bottom to top. Then there is the mix and match to spread things out etc.

Sometimes it works, mostly it doesnt..

ie - HB last year returned as Champions with the EXACT same team, BUT they shifted players around in spots and finished in 7th :eek:

Russ has been playing the #2 Masters spot for the last couple of years. However, we have 4 or 5 players over 40, so Dan may arange it differently than what I posted. Russ could be #2 or #3 Masters, or #6 or #7 open, depending on how Dan sets the Roster. I'm not old enough so I'm almost guaranteed to be #6 or #7 Open, unless Dan gets crazy and puts me at #1 as a sacrifice, so everyone else can play down a notch and have (theoretically) easier matches.

Actually, I feel pretty good about this team. The top several (Dan, Rory, Lance) are very experienced. Jacob, Mike &amp; Zach are solid golfers though they don't have a ton of Match play expereince, if they come to play, they'll do well. I'm very reasonable, and shold be able to hold my own in the 5-7 spot.

Scott has been solid playing Masters the last few years, Russ is certainly capable, and Keith can be hot or cold. If he's hot, he'll kick [*****] in whatever spot he's in. With Harvey &amp; Lisa, we're probably bringing our strongest #11-12 in quite a while.

Hopefully, I'll get to play against Hapner & Magilla. Either one would be ok, but both would be fantastic.

Matt, Jon & Chris are all fine payers who have made the rise to Pro over the last 3-4 years. They play together often and when they go to tournamnets these days, you can almost always count on one of them to make the finals.
We may not be picked to win, yet, But I wouldn't count us out. We're bringing a good team.

Our order is still not set, but I would guess I am 7 and Nate Doss will be 1. Anything could happen in between, and that is not a guranteed order, but I would guess.

In San Diego, the Friday after Thanksgiving is affectionately known as "The Meat Grinder."

We have an invite-only double elimination match play event to fill out the remaining spots for the team. Its always brutal and usually yields one surprise qualifier (and two or three very good players who go home disappointed).

I'm gonna be there...Hopefully leaving as an UPSETTER not an UPSETTEE :D

Hey JS, RS checking in here. I will probably not have any of the discs for the team tourney, but we can bring some painted alum. minis, let me know. We will have painted discs at the 05 memorial this year, and of course all monies going to the pro purse. I have a more durable way to do them now, and we may get some pdga approved.

If youve paid attention Dumb ***, I dont really care about the money all that much...Im more of a promoter than a player :p these days....Not to brag on our region or anything but our players pool in OPEN is the DEEPEST of ANYWHERE in the country. An Injury, a Family, a Job and a LIFE dont allow my skills to sharpen so much. That is not what is important here.

The bottom line is that I dont need to proclaim any greatness. My OPPONENTS, most who know me quite well, can decide for themselves how much of a threat I am. Its those who "Blow me off" that walk away trying to figure out how they got WHOOPED :eek:

But it seems youll have to wait yet another year before you even get a chance to TRYOUT for a spot, so you just keep practicing, or better yet focus so of your energy in bettering the sport in SoCal...They can use it :o

So which teams look like they have the best shot? To me, it looks like SD and RE. Several other teams could play well too, like LM, SM, HB, AZ. SC and SB look like the weakest, but not weak.

Half of the SD team was determined Sunday the 21st (the players, as well as their *position* of play).

The other half was finalized Friday the 26th, about 30 seconds after Donny beat me in sudden death. I was there, I helped determine it (the other six players, as well as their *position* was determined then and there).

The website was updated with course championship results on Tuesday, the 23rd (iirc), which is in between the two dates when the team was determined.

But, don't let the facts get in the way of a good conspiracy theory.

Looking at the teams, I think Sylmar & Redwood look like they'll give SC the best competition :D

We are (SC) heavly stacked in Masters and Women. LaMa, Sylmar and Redwood have some pretty big names in their front 5. SC has rookies that can definately give them a run, and of course SD has home field, Snapper, Micah & Carlo.

It should be an incredible show.

I give Gary Sandoval odds for tournamnet MVP and all around awsome guy. :D
