Sorry Keith, but I'm predicting 3-4 for you after perusing the list of #10s. And that's only if you can putt this weekend. :)

When are you getting here? You want a shot at some head-to-head redemption at Emerald while you're here?

i don't arrive until friday early evening.... i'll have to take a rain check until next time i'm in town....

i am bummed that the schedule doesn't allow me to have breakfast with shamu :mad:along with dawn and lorelei.....
i always wanted to eat with a killer whale

i do look forward to my first team event and meeting all the new golfers i don't know....

see you there rhett

Keith, Don't let Rhett into your head. You're going 7-0. I'm not joking either. You've played one of your best seasons, finish strong with a good showing. Remember, this is a "FUN" event(no Pepsi) :D.

basically my play is up to me...if i don't try too much i can play with most players...if i try to make up strokes on the next hole my game gets worse....

my whole career is pretty much been that way,the talent is there i just have to harness it for good not evil

rhett can't get into my head as he knows the only time he's played me for 18 holes(putting right handed) i whooped him on his own course seeing it for the first time :D

of course i SHOULD whip him even if we play 3 holes, but seeing my starfire almost go into the lake after him saying he was going to throw it in the lake stunned me and i couldn't recover

next time he goes down HARD, learns his lesson and i win my dollars back

and forget me not bringing pepsi....i wouldn't have the ability to throw without it :D

see you all soon

Maybe you can chug a Pepsi after every putt, to get you charged up for the next drive, and then chug a half-pint of 151 after every drive to get you calm for the upcoming putt? :)

The team-tourney is non-sanctioned so no problems with the half-pints of 151 on the course.

Dec 01 2004, 03:44 PM
Half pints? :D Peps? Lets get serrious...... what would Hunter S Thompson say?

Hey Gilla, juts out of curiousity, how did you do your rookie year? :o

We heard a pretty good story at the cloaking meeting last night about you feeling very confident about beating every body, then losing to Hapner in the final set

Is it true you haven't forgotten that yet? :D

Rookie Visit 1993 Team LaMirada 5th Spot 1-5-1 :o

Yes it is TRUE...I have lost the match to my "Traveling Partner" that day....I was ON FIRE until the last Match agaist Marty. Just proves that ANYONE can winn at Match Play..... /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
By the way, I ended up 6-1-1 for the weekend.

That just made me mad so I CRUSHED my opponent from HB in the Finals, BUT was the only player 1 thru 7 to pull off a win and we lost in the Finals to HB

That just made my team that much more HUNGRY for last year :Dala "The Empire Strikes Back" :D

And now THEY want to start another DYNASTY :D

And that's the beauty of Match Play. You can't make up strokes, only points. Doesn't matter if you lose one hole by 7 strokes, all you gotta do is win the next one by one, and it's even again. Much different mentality.

should have clarified that i MEANT all my tournament playing, NOT match play....

we had club championship match play for 3 years in miami before i moved to az....
i am QUITE familiar with match play and it's concepts...

i'm going to TRY my best to not let anyone or anything bother me and just enjoy playing the event....
when i worry about stuff that i can't control is when things sometimes go wrong..

since i don't drink i don't think that will help ME any... :D
putting doesn't "really" make me nervous...not making the putt is what bothers me :p
if i hit my first ones, things usually go well....
if i have to tinker with angles or distances that is when i usually end up with alot of 3's

just back a couple of hours now from "sunny"
(if you count rain and snow in the 3000ft plus elavations as sun :D) san diego
it was an interesting weekend
i accomplished my 2 goals for myself of not having a losing record(went 4-3)and not being shut out
team wise we had a 4 way tie for first at 5-2 with san diego, la mirada and sylmar....
we lost only to san diego and lama(both badly),which were the 2 final teams on a points tiebreaker.....
i got 1 shutout(7-0) against sylmar and beat magilla's guy also :D
losing only to sd,lama and my last match in the "sunny" weather to my "travelling" partner steve killian.

of course rhett didn't show with the great weather but instead sent his daughter megan out to the course all by herself to catch pnuemonia in the pouring rain and 40 degree temps while he stayed at home "putting up holiday decorations" AKA watching the charger game in the warmth of his living room :o

i look forward to next year's event and making the finals!!

lastly...
thanks to the redwood empire team and magilla for the donuts they bought for all 8 teams this morning...it was a nice gesture and one that they asked be continued by the winning teams in the future..

see everyone at the next national tour event or vegas in '05

by the way congrats to russ for aceing #14
and oh yeah who won????

Dec 06 2004, 02:08 AM
I just got home, maybe an hour ago.

What is normally, about a 6 hour drive, turned into an 9 hour ordeal. Partly because we had to stop and feed my baby daughter a few times (she was actually very well behaved), and partly because of the snow and pouring rain kept the speeds well under the posted limit. I'm glad we didn't make the finals, or we may not have been able to get out of Western Cali. because of the snow on the road. I wonder if our Flagstaff team-member even tried to make it all the way home tonight...

So, who won?

What team gets picked up next year?
Feldberg told me that Oregon (who was at the top of the waiting list) is out, since he couldn't rely on enough of his fellow PacNorWesterners so didn't want to commit to a team, which of course means that Redwood Empire gets their ringers again.

Just for the record....

The "Redwood Empire" has NOT lost a Head/Head Match with San Diego in our last 4 meetings :p

Must suck to not be able to win on your HOME COURSE
:D

That would be WAY BACK to 1997 since they have beaten us....

They may have won the War but not THAT battle :D

Seeing how this was posted at Tournament Central for ALL to see. I thought it might be appropriate to re-post.....

Seeing how the statement is STILL TRUE.......... :p

:D

Without going too deep..............

Redwood Empire had a member go down sick which put us at a severe disadvantage on Saturday. We did lose 2 matches on Tie Breakers by less points than we gave up with out our player...though break, but thats the rules....Congrats to Santa Cruz, who was the ONLY Team to actually beat us on Match points :p
Bottom line is we finished 4-3 and in 5th since there was a 4 way tie for 1st at 5-2. Next Year ;)

On a personal note....Other than not taking home the Title again, the weekend was VERY good to me.....
I went 6-0-1...best record in my slot and on my Team......... :D

Sorry SLO, DVINCENT & Gwilliam..... maybe next year for your boys..:p

It made my weekend when my San Diego match missed that last putt to give me the win.......must to the dismay of his AM groupy following  There wasnt much for them to say after that. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

To my fellow players.......Another Team tourney has now passed, Id have to say it was the wettest as well. The only nice thing about NOT making the finals is NOT having to go back out into the cold rain.....made me think we were back in NorCal. It was great to see old friends and familiar faces....and meet some new ones as well.

NEXT YEAR.......The "Empire Strikes Back" :)

What a great event.

Thanks Snapper, San Diego, Redwood Empire and all who came to play and support. Nice touch w/ the doughnuts Empire.

I'm sorry I go NO pictures because of the rain and busy scheduale.

I thought it was pretty kewl that the 2 run off teams for the sprirt award were, and I quote. "hands down above the rest" : Santa Cruz and Redwood Empire. the 2 NorCal Teams :D

Santa Cruz won in the end And it may have been that group celebration on the front lawn when we BEAT Redwood Empire saturday afternoon that put us over the top, (all thoug I persoanlly lost to Kevin) All in all it was pretty appropriate as the 2 teams have such great friendships between them.

I guess we won't have to worry aboutbumping into Santa Barbara in the bar next year. :o

Say Mikey, how many of those years did Anni play for SC with all those wins? :D

Much thanks to Jim Tobish, Kevin Parkhurst, Anni Kremel & the gang for hanging with us Sunday afternoon, it's always great to see you guys.

Wow.

That's great that everyone gets invited back. I actually really liked hanging with SB. We have one of the Carnages here in SC and we love him.

I hope I'm on the team again next year, but SC has a lot of strong players, so we'll see how it goes... I turn Maters January 1st :D

We're already working on spirit stuff though, so If i don't make the team, I may go for support anyway. Do you think I can still get in the putting contest?

Robert McIntee form HB has great skills. Really good guy, if any one out there bumps into him, please say hello from Santa Cruz.

Don Olow is one of the coolest guys I have ever golfed with or met. He reminds me of Rodney Dangerfiled :DAnd simply has a great outlook on life. I would love to have that guy hanging around my home course.

Donny, whereever you are... Thanks Man, you are an awsome individual and a real class act.

Carlo, we love you to Man, Keep it real brother.... and that Micah guy is pretty good :DI guess? at least that's what he told us

Mikey, a few of us were talking with Kevin & Jim, we are very interested in doing some Dela/Novato match play with yall. Maybe even bigger teams to allow more players, Like B-Rad and myself as i could certainley slide back a few spots :o

I'd be happy to help coordinate on this end.

If you're intersted drop me a PM and we'll get that rolling.

At the Halloween Classic, Snapper said that Las Vegas was second on the list behind Oregon. Since Oregon is not coming next year, shouldn't Vegas be in?

Dec 09 2004, 02:17 PM
Just guessing here, but I think Oregon was offered the spot in '05 and Vegas in '06. Since Oregon declined, Snapper decided to let this year's last place return instead of bumping up the Vegas return.

I only speak the truth....mostly ;)

I think its hilarious that the Ams in SoCal actually think they can compete when they have NO competition........

In all my "ribbing" its intent is to maby get some of you to travel and actually play against some stiff competition on REAL courses. Not stuff designed to throw "Lids" at. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

After all your smack talk, I didnt notice you hanging around SD to help out your "Fellow Ams" in their failed effort to help Tom. At least I met Ryan, who at least had the sack to talk crap in person.

Keep practicing and go and win in Hawaii...then you'll get a little respect :D

Interesting trade.

Talent and "fun" considered. Don is a barrel of laughs by himself, you should get that guy on stage some where.

Tony always keeps us light. The psoitive, ehem, kinda guys you always want in your group.

Wouldn't it be kool if we could all go play some where as a team? Like a US match play championships fielding teams from each state?

You could use a multiple day/course format so that each state could have a large team.

Then all of the Cali players could bond, and talk smack about Texas & Az and East Coast vs. West Coast

I bet Jim G is down?
Where's John Poole when you need him? :D

I was considering this after watching you play at the team tourney. I thought it might be fun to go and compete in NorCal. But, I've come to a conclusion: I don't like playing with jerks and dickheads. And you fall into both of those categories, so if you are in charge of an event in NorCal, I have no desire to show up. I play golf because I like it, and I compete because I like competition. But I'm not going to waste my time playing and competing with a [*****] who's goal in life is to try to make other people feel lower than he is. It's not a good business strategy, Magilla. You want people to show up on the grounds of us "proving" ourselves, and whatever other ego-centric ideas you have floating around. Nope, I'm not interested. I will go play in Oregon with golfers that are honestly nice and considerate, and enjoy seeing new faces. Not with people like you who have no concern for anyone else.

Magilla, you are a sad person, and a terrible scar to the disc golf community. Good luck with all of your endeavors, but I don't want to ever hear from you again about how much I suck, or how I'm a "wanna-be BS AM", or how you could school me at your course, or anything like that. Negativity will only slow the progress of this wonderful game, and you are a negative gangrenous piece of egotistical dirt.

I have no respect for you whatsoever.

OK First.

No offense. I Ilke all you guys and want to see us get along.
Ribbing is fine, but Ed said we're familly, and that's how it is.

This speaks a lot.
in Feb of '02 for my honeymoon...Man I wish I knew about Disc Golf back then

Ya'll have to bear in mind that Magilla has been at this for a long, long time. When you've been around a while, you get a little jadded to certaine things... Forget the match play records.... with the talent level at that event, it's anybodys game, on any day.

'02 is simply not enough history to understand what you are grappling with.

Second, Mikey is the kind of guy who is always going to rib you a bit, it's hard to understand in email and such, but I personally do not think he means a bad thing toward any of you. I think he is trying to motivate you to become a better and more involved disc golfer. (Sorry mike if i'm putting words in your mouth)

I have had my moments of not understanding Magilla- and they go back much farther than 02:D, sorry but that just seems like nothing. I have watched more Ams come & go since 02 than I can shake a stick at. I could name a dozen great Am players from 02 that you'll never even know, and Mikey has way more history than me. Try to find some respect for the guy as I assure you he deserves it, and trust me, if you're still here in 10 years, it will make much more sense.

K- don't know how we got to ths isles, but while we're here.

Hi Al. see you in March. Why can't you move that tourney to March :D

And when are you going to hold it at my Course? the Coconut Links @ Kihei :D

Besdies that course (which as you can guess is an Object course ...coconut to be exact) there is another course mid way up the side of Haleakala. They could tell ya, bet then they'd have to feed you to Pele :o

I would suggest trying to get Al to show you around as it takes a little time to find and figure out.

You can also play Ultimate on Sundays upcountry, and on wednesday evenings at Kam. 2 Park.

When you arrive on maui, pick up the "Bulletin" at a Stop n Go. It's the local TV Guide, free private Ad and comunity news Rag. You'll find good stuff in there, including people and places where discs are thrown.

And if you like Sushi Do not miss Sansei resturaunt :D in Kihei or Kapalua

>with the talent level at that event, it's anybodys game, on any day.<

You mean with the course level, it's anybodys game. When a player rated 905 can beat a player rated 1025, then I'd say the course has something to do with it. And it is a course that has 18-20 holes that anyone can reach, but it also is the perfect course for a match play event.

I have to also reply to DVincent and Ryan. You guys should go and play one of Magillas events, then you will apologise for the disrespect. I've read through all of these posts, and have to side with Magilla. He does taunt, all in fun, but you 2 have taken it to a personal level. The match play event has always been a fun source of taunting, that's what Magilla was doing (like he always does, every year)before the tourney. You guys took it wrong from the get go. When you guys finally make the team, then you will understand.

And as far as a 900 rated player taking down a 1025: I heard it was too much fun down in TJ the night before that was the culprit!

Did you drive the green, or did you sink a long putt? Either way, nice eagle. Next time drive from the short pad on 7, it's 653' and can be pinned with a crush.

Nice playing yesterday Vincent! I thought it was going to be a dogfight with Magilla and all his experience.. but 7-0? not even close! Maybe he should move to the 10 spots and play with the masters.

Peace out

:o Ouch...My Eye!! /msgboard/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

First, Ill take my lumps because I earned them.......

Second, Dave played well enough, I played the worst Ive EVER played.

Bottom line is I lost and Dave earned it.....and it cost us the win over San Diego as well (we lost on points with a 6-6 tie)

Good Job Dave, Like I said you earned the right to talk trash now that you are actually a TEAM Player.. :D

PS - To All who have been following this "matter"....

Id venture to say that Dave doesnt think Im such a bad guy any more.. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

DOH!!! :o

I guess you should have taken that $5 a man side bet for all #6's.

That would have made you an extra $35............

Unfortunatly, I wont be able to redeem myself...Im told that I will most likely be moving to a Masters spot next year for Oregon......
