Me and my buddy are going to play all of these parks on Saturday and we are coming down from Arlington.I heard that Pease Park gets busy. We just wanted to be able to play some of the best parks in Austin and I only have Saturday. So my point is which parks should we go to first, Because I heard that Pease park gets busy quick but I dont know if the others are the same way. Just looking for a game plan. Any advise will help and thanks in advance!

have you played waco? if not I would hit that course. What kinda of courses are you looking for tight, open , long, short? Rivery is a fun course right off I-35

I have played Waco, Temple and Wimberly the last time me and my buddy went on a road trip! I just heard from every one that there are some bad [*****] courses in Austin. I did some research and Pease Park, Slaughter Creek Metro Park and Bartholomew Park sounded like some fun places. But I hope we can do them all in one day!

O by the way never heard of Rivery! I like all tipe of courses but I would have to say some of my favorites are the wooded hilly courses!

Yea, the advice for starting early at Pease is good. There is a mini on saturday starting at ten at Pease, so if you finish before ten, you should be alright. My advice is to forget seawright (I've done it and it works well for me), but play circle C as it is aruably Austin's most challenging course. Bart (my home course) is a must play and can be played at most any time on saturday without a lot of crowds. As Seewhere states, Rivery is also a great course and is highly recommended. Enjoy.

^^ what he said.

and if you stay an extra day, go play red rock.

ps. circle c has two sets of tees. longs and shorts: 1, 2, 4 (might want a spotter), 6, 8, 12, 14, 15, 17, 18. the holes are pretty easy to find. just remember: go up the hill on 4 and right on the trail on 9. :D

pease mini at 10am.

Rivery is in Georgetown, so you could play on the way in or the way out. Exit 261A off of I35, I believe...you will definately not have to worry about a crowd at this course, as well.

yeah, rivery is pretty tough. low scores are possible, but there is trouble off the fairway...which can lead to high scores. very unique course for this area, though.

Get to Austin early and play in the Pease Park mini. Lots of good friendly competition.

I would skip Bart right now. We played out there last weekend, and the course is in the worst shape I have ever seen it. I doubt I'll ever go back to this course, which used to be one of my favorites until they 'ucked it all up.

Enjoy a good lunch at Bongo's BBQ (near the Pease Park course and a disc golf supporting business).

Then, on your way out of A-town, stop in Round Rock and play Old Settlers Park and then Georgetown to play Rivery. Now you're prepared to play the next Texas 10 event (which will be played on these two courses).

Don't skip Bart. I'm not sure what Rooster is speaking about, but the road going into Bart is usable, it needs a little mowing on #1, stay out of the shiite on the rest of the course and it's a pleasure to play.

gordonmk
Sep 10 2004, 01:37 PM
definitely go play circle c! However, there will probably be decent size crowds no matter what time of the day except early in the morning (like Pease).

If you want to go south to north, start at Circle C early morning, go play the 10 am Pease mini, have lunch, play Bart, and then hit Rivery on the way back out of town.

did you make it to austin?

Big E
Sep 13 2004, 04:35 PM
Yes I went to Austin we made it there 15 minutes before the mini started at Pease Park! We had a blast, we played with Daryl and Vick I believe. Our game was not up to parr but we had a blast. Then we checked out circle C we did not see anyone out there, so we ate lunch and still no one it did'nt look that inpresive from hole 18 where we parked so we left to Old Settlers. That course was open and really long for us. We played 5 hole. We went to waco and played cameron park there then drove back the rest of the way. I guess after playing with the crowd at pease park the other course did not seem much fun. We wished there would have been more people out at the other courses. It always seems better to us when there is a crowd of people to play with! All in All we had a blast though. Take into count that we only slept 3 hours before the trip. I just bought a house so everyone decided to have a house warming party friday night. Next time I will get more sleep and find some people to play with. Thanks again for all the info.

Vinnie, does this mean you have #1?
I think Yeti has #1.

There is a problem with this format...1st round me & Seehorse team up & shoot -19 while Vinnie & ElChili team up and shoot -18. Second round we play but I end up with El Chili while Vinnie & Sehorse team up. We shoot another awesome -19 but it is impossible for El Chili to catch me. At the same time it is impossible for Vinnie to catch Seeware.
This is the reason that it is a flawed format. (we tried several years ago at another doubles final)

okay boys and girls got the scoop from Rene T.

Be at Seawright by 8:35ish no later than 8:45. Turn in the 2004 tag you have this gets you in the draw. Once all tags are in than he will pull tags out 1 by 1 and that is your partner for the whole day. so # 1 gets pulled than # 17 that is a team and so on. The entry is $ 10 ace pot and $15 for 2005 tag. This ought to be interesting to say the least. ;)

Bartholomew Park Clean Up!

Saturday, February 26th from 11 am to 4 pm
Meet in the small parking lot down by the tennis courts

Mike Kelly is a local disc golfer. He is part of a City of Austin employee group that is coordinating a public service project in Bartholomew Park. They are planning to do a "Creek Cleanup" on Saturday, February 26th from about 11 am to 4 pm. They are coordinating with Keep Austin Beautiful to help with trash collection and removal supplies. The last couple of floods have deposited a bunch of trash in the trees and in the creek overbank area.

If you have some time that day, please come on down to Bart and help clean up Austins oldest permanent disc golf course.

If there are any weather related issues, they've established
Saturday, March 5th as the alternate date.

This is Stevie Campbell. I host the Frisbee and Disc Golf Club at Texas School for the Deaf (TSD). I want to inform you that one of the baskets is missing (8th hole) from the TSD Campus, it happened last Wednesday (March 23rd). I am very disappointed that someone has stolen a basket from TSD. If you have any information about this crime against kids, disc golf, and our community, please contact me at [email protected], or contact Waterloo Disc Golf Club at [email protected], (512) 858-0119.

Apr 07 2005, 03:22 PM
Bart has the potential to be a beautiful place, however, I think demographics prevents it from being so, plus, the city would need to spend a lot of t.l.c. to really fix it up.
At least at Round Rock you can play a round of golf in broad daylight without your car getting broken into. :(

disctance00
Apr 07 2005, 03:30 PM
Bart is a great course. It's too bad it's not taken care of like some courses. Maybe when the city can get back in the limelight the place can get cleaned up.

What company at the mini did you not like Vinnie?

Your car can get broken into anywhere in this town!!!

Apr 07 2005, 03:36 PM
why do you think that I moved to round rock!? I can leave my car unlocked in my drive way and everything still be in tact when I come out in the morning.... Bart was a great park, I grew up playing there. I was a cheerleader for delwood optimist, had numerous birthdays there as a child, however, the neighborhood is not what it used to be... Not only does the city need to step up, but so does the neighborhood association. If they stay on the city(park police in particular) they might could eliminate some of the riff-raff that sleeps/hangs out at that park.. ;)

james_mccaine
Apr 07 2005, 03:46 PM
I probably play Bart as much as anyone. I have played there since 1987. Never had my car broken into (knock on wood, although I know of others that have, but it is a rarity). I also putt at night and have only once ran into an undesirable (other than Hellman ;)), but he was a non-violent, space alien type. Anyways, IMO, Bart is the prettiest, greenest course in the area and thankfully, enough people dislike the course to keep backups to a minimum. :p

james_mccaine
Apr 07 2005, 04:14 PM
No, but I am convinced that if Bart was in a lilly-white part of town, it would be full all the time.

Olse's theory was that the new development in the airport would make the park more used and therefore the city would want to pull the course at the behest of the nieighbors. I hope not. The tale told to me by the really old timers was that the course was originally installed to keep the drug dealers out. The area has grown more yuppified in recent years. If you don't believe me, practice around hole # 6 at dusk and watch dog owner after dog owner pass by. My feeling is that these people (mostly neighborhood folk) are quite happy coexisting with a golf course and would probably support efforts to keep it there. However, the City folks are complete asshats and are apparently driven by irrational whims, so you never know.

james_mccaine
Apr 07 2005, 04:22 PM
:D:D:D I thought you were finished with this topic.

Anyways, I have never seen dead bodies or needles out there, nor does it stink very much. Condoms, OK, I'll give you the condoms. :D

Anyways, I know alot of people that think like you do. I just don't see it that way. Personally, I still think it is the prettiest park. Easily. I suspect if I randomly took 100 out-of-town golfers to all the courses around town, Bart would receive more votes than any other park.

It won't be too long before it goes down to a 9-hole course while the city completely re-does the creek in the western part of the park. The 9 holes left will be those around the tennis court/parking area.

Apr 07 2005, 09:18 PM
I would really like to see that poll ! Bart would for sure get the WORST opinions. And it does stink at that course in alot of places. The entire creek runs with illegally piped in raw sewage from the neighborhood upstream. Also, from what i'm told the airport was partially built on a dump. Every time it rains, the water seeps downhill through the underground garbage into the park/creek below.
I wouldn't get into that water with any oven cuts. The water has always been polluted. Until the city starts handing out violations upstream, it will always remaim so.

Well, this is the only basket that has been stolen from Bart at least in the last three years. But otherwise, I agree that Bart is a crime-infested place where golfers are often pickpocketed on crowded days; cars are often stripped in the parking lot; dogs routinely disappear (it's true, I've seen "lost dog" signs out there) and where golfers must throw with their bag on the shoulder so as to prevent theft. Stay away. Very far away.

I've never had any problems either, except for a few trashy golfers.

But...............even though I've never had any problems, I think it is an evil, dangerous place. The average hacker who is inconsiderate is sure to be attacked and have all their possesions stolen. The good golfer who is considerate and well mannered, but who otherwise holds misguided and exaggerated feelings toward Bart is sure to ingest raw sewage merely be pulling into the parking lot. That is if their car is not stolen from them before the sewage can ooze through their closed window, and forcibly enter their body. They must avoid the virtual hellhole at all costs. :p

My guess is that the type of people that did this wouldn't have cared about the flag....The people that would've cared about the flag usually stay to themselves, it is the others that you have to worry about... Then again it could have been some plain old white trash....

Tomorrow morning, disc golf will be on TV in Austin.

Channel 8, the Time Warner 24 hour local news channel was out doing some filming and interviews at Pease earlier this week. They are going to run the story on their morning show tomorrow. Im not sure if it will run every 30 minutes, but probably. What will happen though is that every 30 minutes (starting at 6:10-6:15 am) they will cut to live shots at Pease Park of folks playing disc golf.

The first time they go live to Pease will be at 6:10 6:15 am and then every 30 minutes after that until the last shot at 8:10-8:15 am.

So if you are up that early, tune in to channel 8.

If you would like to come down to Pease to be part of it, please do so. They want at least 3 - 5 people to show playing each time. They cant guarantee that everyone that comes down will get to be on TV, but well try to get as many on as possible. You dont have to be there for the whole thing, maybe come by for a while before going to work. Well start gathering to get ready for the first shoot at about 5:45 am (gads, that is early). We will gather at the practice basket area.

They have warned us that if there is some really big breaking story that morning, they may have to skip some or all of the live shots, but the possibility is not very big.

Finally, we would love to have someone tape this on their VCR . Unfortunately, I am on satellite out in Dripping Springs (no cable available out there) so I dont get Channel 8. If you can tape this, please let me know. The club will reimburse you for a video cassette. Please tape from 6:00 am 8:30 am so that we get all of the stuff.

Thanks,
Waterloo Disc Golf Club

I think we as "real" disc golfers owe it to the sport to educate the one-discers on the sensibilities of our game. I have returned SEVEN found discs this last two weeks (a combo of my low level and the # of holes I throw) while losing two with NO CALLS! Please take EVERY opportunity while playing with some "casuals" to gently persuade them to NOT litter their cigarette butts on the ground (it's against the rules not to mention the law) and that keeping a found disc with a ph# on it is THEFT and the Universe will never allow that disc to work for you anyway, so might as well return it. Let us use our wonderful sport as a means to teach our children well. Seriously. Take a sec and say "please don't do that." Your society thanks you. I'm no hardass mind you, just trying to defend the parks I call home. These three. And if you need me I'll be the guy picking up about 200 butts a round.

nothing wrong with it but needs alot of attention. That course gets alot traffic and no one takes care of the course so tee box pretty much sux. I would play circle C and Round Rock before playing mary moore just my 2cents

Waterloo started working on the course. The teebox on hole 1 was fixed and the granite trail between the parking lot and the course was put in. The city asked Waterloo to not make any more improvements to the course until they did some drainage work on hole 1 which still hasn't been done.

Jerry Vela has been leading the charge at the course recently and he and some hardworking volunteers have put in new benches, levelled teeboxes, and spread mulch on some the fairways to make it less muddy when it rains. The city has since asked that no more mulch be put on the course because a guy playing in sandals got a splinter in his foot.

It's gotten some attention but like every park, it could always use more.

LouMoreno
Aug 17 2005, 12:05 PM
I think Pat Kinghorn still runs a mini at Circle C at 10am on Sundays.

Waterloo moved it's Thursday afternoon mini from Circle C to Zilker about 2 months ago.

And unless someone hit the ace last week (I don't think they did or we would have heard about it), then tomorrow night's Zilker ace pot should start at over $225.

McCaine, care to teach the newbies how to throw a laser? If they were impressed with "big arm" distance, they'll build a shrine for you. :D

I don't know who won but there were 13 open players.

I ran Newbie Night. "The Legend," "Laser," and "Scowly" James McCaine was not able to attend. I'll keep working on him.

you say vinnie shot 59? well done. vinnie will let us know:)

vinnie
Aug 23 2005, 11:26 AM
I was playing with casuals....but the first time I played I shot a 59, next time I played it I shot a 70. But recorded rounds are recorded during minis or tournaments.
So my 59 is no good!
I really like the course......I wonder if the P.D.G.A. will ever pass through there.

james_mccaine
Aug 23 2005, 11:31 AM
Vinnie shot a 59 at Circle C!!!!!!

Wow, he really IS good. :D

and thanks, your 59 will temper Mike's ability to crow about his mere 60. :D

jk Good shooting Mike.

heavyvynyl
Aug 23 2005, 04:47 PM
wow. everytime you talk about it you shot better the first time. you told me you shot a 62 the first time. so which is it???? maybe you need to put more sun tan lotion on that bald cranium of yours....... :o

vinnie
Aug 23 2005, 05:07 PM
I stand corrected....it was a 62. You will have to excuse me...I have this beat mike by 1 stuck in my head for some reason. ;)
And that bald statement will only fire me up to say
" SHUT YOUR DONKEY YOU SKINNY UNDEFINED GENDER COURSE DESIGNER WANT TO BE"

heavyvynyl
Aug 23 2005, 05:09 PM
ah-ha! had to do some searching but I found it.........62 is still a smokin round for your first time. when you going to make it out to circle c to play again vinnie??? mini sundays at 10. although, i guess you dragons still have that $1000 ace pot. i haven't heard of anyone hitting it, which i'm sure we'll all know when someone does.

"finally made it out there, played behind the waterloo mini....shoot 62
I like the course and there sure has been a lot of HARD work out there. And lots more that can be done....well done fellers.
And as far as #21 ....I worm burned a shot to the gap and ended up throwing a sky roller over the top. It put me in the center of the field with a straight shot to the hole....got a 4. But a short shot up the middle and thumber or sky roller next, makes the hole not very hard.I really like the last 350' of that hole. Too bad that can't be hole 22. IMO hole21 is an ok finishing hole. THIS NOT A WHINE MR.OLSE, SO DON'T START ! You all have done a good thing out there and I understand your passion for the work you have done. By far the best course in AUSTIN."

vinnie
Aug 23 2005, 05:39 PM

LouMoreno
Aug 25 2005, 05:09 PM
The park only charged during special events; concerts, plays, etc. They're done for the summer. No parking fees.

gordonmk
Aug 25 2005, 05:10 PM
The parking fee ended a week or two ago (it was because of a summer movie program). We should be back to free parking.

Chris, if you can't make it, we'll send our sponsorship stuff with Mike Olse down to the Coastal Clash. He can then give it to you or Vinnie or another dragon.

Ok players. Here is our chance to raise some funds for the rebuilding efforts for the entire Gulf Coast area damaged by Hurricane Katrina. We will donate all funds raised directly to the Habitat for Humanity's Gulf Coast Region. We will raise money through donations, a raffle, silent auction, and $1.00 of each entry fee at the Octoberfest. You can help in our effort by donating discs and other items to the raffle and silent auction. Please know that your participation in this effort is valualbe as organizations like Habitat for Humanity begin the rebuilding process in the Gulf Coast area. I have contacted Robert Schmidt at Habitat for Humanities headquarters and he will assist us with our "planned giving". To sign up and play just mail in the entry form that is the first post on the Octoberfest thread or use titledisc.com. If you wish to help or donate something for our efforts please call me at 512-914-4039. Thanks for your attention, D.Moody

$410 for the ace (well, $310 after sharing with his card buddies :D).

Congratulations Chris!!!

Minis will resume at Zilker on Oct 6th on the south side. Then there will be a short break on the 13th (1 day before Waterloo, so no mini that week), and then two more minis on Oct 20th and Oct 27th. Then that pesky time change occurs and things won't start back until the spring.

Thanks everyone for all your support at our minis! :)

Does anyone know who takes care of fallen trees at the course. A tree has fallen on #12's tee box at the long box,if not does anyone have a chainsaw? It looks as if the tree split right down the middle.
