I think I know who you are. G'day
What is a candy land round?
Hey Billy can you deliver some of your cooking to the other course where I will be?
I hope that guy JonXJon from Ca gets to read this thread. All the info is now here Jon? Joey TD...me just a helper sleeping on the couch.
newbe has let the cat out of the bag. We have come up with what I think will be the next great step forward in the evolution of the great game of discgolf. Let me just say, this idea takes the yellow rope and clown's mouth at USDGC to a whole other level. Most people have heard of the game CandyLand. A board game enjoyed by most youngsters ages 4 to 6. Heck, I still enjoy CandyLand today.
Here is my idea: One of the holes (not yet decided which) will be designated as the CandyLand Hole. The fairway will be sectioned off with circles of spraypaint or yellow rope. Each area will have a different consequence if you land in it. For example: if you land here you take your lie back to the teebox, or if you land here you take a two stroke penalty and proceed, or if you land here you must leave your putter behind for the rest of the round, or land here and you must throw your next shot blindfolded.
What does everyone think? I think the game is just going nowhere as it is, and something drastic needs to happen. Gary, I think this could be incorporated into the Texas USDGC qualifier you are having. I can't believe nobody has thought of this yet.

May 12 2004, 07:12 PM
I'll respect your opinion that "the game is going nowhere" but, the "candyland" sounds wacked for an A tier PDGA sactioned tournament. Just my opinion.
Now I need to see if I can switch my weekend off so I can play TX-10 in Wimberly instead of waiting for Waco. :(

That's a funny joke, Joey :D
Chris I can do that for you. You better take Joey serious on the candy land hole. He spilled the beans to me last week in Temple and I promised I wouldn't tell anyone. It ought to be interesting when the players get to #3 on the Beast. " 2 DAYS IN JUNE ".
Ooops!!! Joey, sorry I gave away the Candy Land hole. Guess I got to excited just thinking about watching players tee off. ;)
Like I always said "telephone, telegram, tell Billy" /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Hey, I love Candy Land holes. They're great. I'm thinking #11 at Lago for Flying Solo. Thanks Joey. You're one of the true innovators of our game.
WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?
Considering that I've never played either Cameron course (get up off the floor guys, I know it's unbelievable) my scores are not going to be too sweet. Added strokes will kill me!

I love it but i think it's not painful enough. How about swats or a smack in the face from a cute intern as penalties.
Wow newbe, there is no way I'd pass up on that offer! How would you pay Chris back? You know where he's staying......

my personal opion is play the course the way it is designed. If it was not designed with enough difficulty (which I doubt) than move tee boxes or pin position. DON"T come up with all this CRAP with YELLOW ROPES and candy land BS. If you want to play a course that was not designed to be challenging enough and needs YELLOW ROPE, Triple Mandos, and such than save your $ 250 and go to USDGC. Come on guys this is not putt putt golf. And PS Mark DON"T EVEN think about doing this at the FLying Solo.
I'm going to have to go with C-ware on this one. Disc golf is going nowhere?? You can't play a tournament in this state without pre-registering a month in advance. The competiton level is as high as ever. I think that first cash has gone to your head Joey :).
I'll leave you with one final thought that should put this to rest.

Kreke now that is a good idea. But the rest of this is crazy. this just sounded like something that TD's now a days would try. I mean look at all the artificial OB's that are popping up on alot of courses. my motto "SCREW THE ROPE"

Those that are unable to land within the rope's boundaries often curse their existence. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Yeah, I know. How about a cross between Fear Factor and DG? I know Joey would go for this. A double bogey and you have to eat a cow eye. Or worse, you have to drink a glass of Waco water, GROSS!!!!!
We have just had a suggestion that on the first hole, everyone must tee off with their pants down around their ankles. Any comments? Good idea, bad idea? We have some serious brainstorming going on here and any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am having a bad time finding discs I like.Maybe we can discuss this at Dinner That Friday Night.
AS For the Candy land Round,How about If The other players on your card can caught your disc in the air,and throw it back.
If you were a rainbow wig,you get a extra throw.

Thanks Joey, I've been buggin the hell out of all the Texas guys to get info for this tourney. I'll be sending in my stuff right away. See yall there.
Looks like this will be my last amature tournament and I find disappointing that there will not be a candyland hole. Just think if you land in a grid you advance foward or backwards. It definitely takes artificial ob's to a whole new level. Hey Himing congrats on the date you really SCORED BIG TIME.

Maybe you all should seriously do the Candyland hole or two tacked onto the end of the round, say for a CTP-type prize or something. Or a mini-round of 4-5 holes for the Candyland while the scores are added Sunday or after the rounds Saturday. It sounds like there'd be a bunch of takers.
Now a seperate thing, does sound fun....to watch anyway....

How about everybody puts in five discs and we have a No Limit Texas Hold'em tourney after Saturday's second round. I'm all in dude. Let it ride.

I had tried contacting the TD of this event a few years ago to see about learning how they tie their event in with the charity. I received no response at the time.
There has been a number of parties up in the MADC region that have expressed interest in learning how to approach charities to tie in their DG events - and help draw in more corporate type sponsors.
Still looking for this info.
Anybody associated with WACO, or COLUMBUS, or AUGUSTA, or anyone else doing charity events that is willing - please share with us:
1) Who is your charity?
2) Do you raise money w/ a flat donation amount going to the charity - or is it on a percentage basis?
3) Does the charity help you staff the event? Promote the event? Are they a resource to the event of any kind - other than a conduit to get people as sponsors?
Any insight you could offer would be greatly appreciated. And wouldn't this sort of promotion be ideal for garnering media attention for something like THE NATIONAL TOUR?? Just a thought.

The Augusta Disc Golf Association has long used the Special Olympics as the benefitting charity for our events. The reason we chose them is because the "Frisbee Toss" is a Special Olympics Event and we thought it would be nice to support fellow disc throwers. It is also nice that the money we raise stays in our community to support the local Special Olympians.
The charity for last years Hall of Fame Classic NT Event in Augusta was the Disc Golf Hall of Fame. We raised over $2,300 for the Hall of Fame at this event.
How does this pertain to the W.A.C.O. tounament?

I'm looking forward to it too... especially since Cameron East is the first course on which i witnessed the B&FP that has become the legacy of the MASoB&FP. I hope to see a resurgance of the B&FP at the hands of the former Dean of this prestigious academy. Even if he cannot live by his sworn B&FP edicts, perhaps he can let a few slip, just for old times' sake. Myself, I still reminisce about the old days when one could count on Mr. Atwood to relentlessly demonstrate the putting style he developed and perfected, even when nobody was watching. One can only hope that the Great Cameron East can bring the Dean back to his senses and that he will return to his honorable post.

Player's list up yet? :)
Josh, I hate to disappoint you, but I'm afraid I won't be able to take you down memory lane that weekend. Its true that I struggled mightily with the putter in the 3rd and 4th round this weekend, but I'm off the B&FP train for good.
Side bet?
Will you have a place where I can crash harlen?
I got enough room for you and Roper and possibly one or two more.
Evidently there is a couple of new epidemics going around. The first one is missing chains. I noticed that #7 on East is missing two chains also. The second one is aces that dont stick. The chains are missing on the lefthand side, so if your left handed or righthanded sidearm the ace could posibly be effected. There are plans for a midweek cleanup and a thorough combing of both courses the week prior to W.A.C.O. Amature weekend.

I really want to be there... gonna have to decide if I can make it though. We've been playing so many tournaments lately, many with travel, that our 'golf budget' is kinda struggling. I know that if we could see a list of registered players (and there were a few women on that list), Deidre would be easier to convince :-).
oh yeah... marka... I'd be interested in a side bet, assuming that OMB plays from the same tees as MA2. anyone know if that'll be the case? Oh, and what will be the bet, total score, or total B&F putts? :D
hey; thanks for the encouragment well takin so what do you think will come first the grandchildren or beating me? haha Yea its very diffrent with the big boys and it pretty much comes down to mental control and handling pressure everything else such as scores shooting birdes pars etc should already be in your game before you make the step the only way youll be able to handle the pressure and mental is playing with them which i plan to do so ill see ya buddy take care and wish me luck GO BIG!!

I'm going to try and talk Deidre into playing, but I really hope there are at least a few other Rec women for her to play with. 2 of the last 3 tournaments we've played, she's been the only one. Mabe she'll get to play with you, Laura. I've been telling her you're a good woman to watch and learn from. :-)

Hey, below is an e-mail Mace sent me about the DeLaveaga Course in Santa Cruz...please check out this link & help save a course.
Thanks,

Hello Everyone,
The De La Veaga Disc Golf Course is in danger of being removed. It is one of the toughest courses you will ever play. It is a one of a kind facility and it should be there if you ever get out that way. I was asked to circulate the info below so that as many people as possible could show support for the course. Please take a little time and help the people in Santa Cruz keep their course.
Thanks

Seriously, she said she's not sure about it. They moved her to a new rec center with 200 kids, so it's been a hassle at her workplace. She is playing barring any problems this week.
Anyone interested in going and playing Waco sometime this week before Friday from the Austin area? Have a little free time and want to go see the courses, since I haven't played them in about a year.

So far we have about 35 players signed up. I will try to get a list posted tonight. I have been getting a bunch of calls the last couple of days from people who say they are coming. I am expecting well over 100.

There are short ones at Olde Cameron, but I think they are all the same at the Beast. We could just bet on best overall score on the Beast, assuming we do in fact play the same tees. That would be fine by me.
Now, as to what to bet...hmmmm...
Beer?
Food?
Money?

Jon, I don't know that much about Dallas or Arlington, as far as bar-b-que goes, but I'm from Fort Worth. The best bar-b-que here is at (in order) Angelo's, Railhead (I've never been to the one in NE, just near west side of FW), & Cousins. Don't know if Don and I'll be at Veteran's on Thursday. There's always some one there that can play a round with you. Contact me, and we'll arrange to be there after work on Thursday. We're leaving Friday after work for the ride to Waco. It has rained almost every day for the last week, so count on mud at least Thursday and Friday. I read higher up in this thread that they think Waco will dry by Sat/Sun.

yeah as far as i know, all the tees are the same at the Beast (except for the rec tee on the pond hole). I'd like to see the bet go for both rounds, but we need to hear from Joey before we can be sure we're playing the same tees. If they are different, maybe I should move up to MA1 just for this tourney :o.

Team Dumbo, exit University Parks Drive to get to Olde Cameron, which I'm sure will be tourney headquarters, and go west until you run into the park. Cameron East is a block north, on the other side of the river.

that's the course ratings from the pro weekend of Waco Charity Open.... I'm not sure exactly how that figures into a course par, but I know that last year adv. players were shooting low 60's at the am weekend. if a 61 is -5, that should be about right. We all know Nolan is a freak who can shoot -17, so 66 par sounds right to me :-).

Should be some great competition in this division.
Wow, no kidding Gary. I'm really gonna have to play smart and smooth in that kind of a field to have a chance at getting anything. But its great to see such a good and strong OMB field to remind us of where the division was headed a while back and could be again.
All smack aside, I can't wait. These next two weekends are gonna tell me a lot about where my game is.

Yeah Kid, but #18 gets 4'd and even 3'd more than you would think a Par 5 would. Not by me, mind you, I'll take my 5 and smile on my way to the next hole. :)
#16 However, is a different story, at least for me. That hole is a stone killer. All throws on that hole are critical, but my 2nd shot there can make or break me big time. Its pure evil, I tell you. :)

We'll probably be down there at one point or another, just can't afford to play :( If not give it to Himing & he'll bring it to us next week. Thanks Joey :D

He's skeert of me now that I'm playing better, Gary. He won't show up. He's already tasted defeat at my hands on the Beast and couldn't stand that pain again. :)

speakin of skeert, i guess the right rev isn't gonna raise our side-bet  I know my play in Wimberley made your jaw drop, but I assure you... it was one of my best rounds ever. I offer you, marka, the opportunity to bow out gracefully and come up with a really good excuse now rather than later. If you would rather suffer the embarassment of chickening out than the humiliation of getting beat by an MA2 player... well then I can understand. I won't rub it in nor will I post on here saying how you ran away, tail-tucked like a little puppy who just got SMACKED with a newspaper. I won't laugh at your B&F putts, or point in your direction when u shank a drive... I'll just congratulate you on your DFL finish, and maybe give you a disc so you don't feel so bad :D
of course, you could just raise the bet

Yeah Kid, but #18 gets 4'd and even 3'd more than you would think a Par 5 would. Not by me, mind you, I'll take my 5 and smile on my way to the next hole. :)
#16 However, is a different story, at least for me. That hole is a stone killer. All throws on that hole are critical, but my 2nd shot there can make or break me big time. Its pure evil, I tell you. :)
#16 should be a deinfinate par 4 but there shouldnt be any others that are above a 3. MAYBE #4 or #18 but not a par 5. I mean, course par at Round Rock is 54, and they have holes that are as long #4 and #18. I wouldn't consider taking a 4 on either hole a birdie. just one that got away.
just my opinion.
