Course par at the Rock is NOT 54--its 57 or 58 IMO. Holes #4 and #5 are par 4s. Hole #17 is a 4 or 5. Expecting a pair of 500' drives (or even 400' drives on #4 or #5) to set up a 50' putt is a little ridiculous.

Likewise Par on the Beast IMO is somewhere between 58 and 61 (par 3 or 4 = #9, par 4 = #4 & #10, par 4 or 5 = #16 & #18).

Can any of those holes be 3'd? Absolutely. Nolan 2'd #4 on the Beast last year with a 20-30' putt and 3'd #16.

Course par at the Rock 54?

Seek some professional help there, my man. :)

Hello the ROCK par is 58. 2 par 4's # 4 and 5 and 1 par 5 # 17. every other hole on the course has been 2'd.. and # 4, 5, and 17 have all been 3'd more than once. not sure if anyone has 2'd # 5. I know that is the only hole I have not 2'd other than 4 and 17 :)

baldguy
Jun 10 2004, 02:16 PM
just because a hole has been 2'd does not make it a par 3. many holes are solid par 4s even though a 2 is possible. Does someone acing a hole make it a par 2?

really ?? :D

Jun 10 2004, 02:20 PM
I was thinking that same thing, Josh. Of course, with C-dubs arm, everything is a Par 2. :)

As for the lil' sidebet, I'll see your 2 beers, 2 burgers and 2 bucks, and raise you 4 beers and 3 bucks.

Call or fold?

so we're at a 6-pack, lunch, and 5 bucks.... hmmm sounds pretty feasible to me. I call. when should i collect my winnings? let's do the beer and bucks after round 4, and lunch will be at LOSO if I can make it :D

yeah, i guess i am too used to always keeping score as 54, no matter what course par is. course par wont make a difference while i play this weekend.

what is the course record out at round rock? I thought it was -5 but that was me thinking the rock was a 54.

so aaaanyway... back north to the waco courses :-)

I'd be ecstatic shooting in the 50s at the east course. My goal for that course is a 61. any better and I'll do my happy dance

I think 40s is feasible for the olde cam course. the best I've ever shot is a 50 there (from the shorts), so I guess there's lots of room for improvement.

Joey, are all divisions playing longs at cameron? or is there going to be one short round, one long, etc? gonna change pins for sunday again like last year?

If you play advanced or open you will never ever play the short tees at W.A.C.O.

Jun 10 2004, 06:09 PM
This has nothing to do with Waco, but you are both wrong. :) Par for RR is way higher than y'all state. Just take averages at the tourneys. Even for open, the average score for #4 and #5 is above 4. (Not everyone can crush like Ware.)

Good luck Martin. I don't want to hear any stories about hole 16 at the Beast. :p

Oh boy, do I feel another side bet coming on.

NO WAY! What's your best score there?

Jun 10 2004, 06:22 PM
Move 18 deep left? That would be fun!

Hey who is the jerk-off from Gatesville that played in last years tourney at Waco that demanded his money back for him and his son? Whomever that ******* is shouldn't be allowed in the tourney. PERIOD. No offense Billy I don't remember the name but they took advantage of how nice a guy Joey is.

I remember that guy, he accused a kid of cheating on his scores. His pair was'nt big enough to correct him.

Jun 10 2004, 06:39 PM
I have not yet decided if we will move any of the holes at Olde. It all depends on how quickly the rounds go on Saturday. The Intermediate and Rec players will be playing from the REGULAR boxes at Olde Cameron. (don't think of them as the short boxes) The Adv players will be playing the CHAMPIONSHIP boxes. At Cameron East all Rec and Int Women will play from the short box on Hole 6. Everyone else throws from the accross the pond. :D

There were a couple of new lakes on both courses this morning due to the rain. But, I think they will probably be gone by the weekend.

Well it's off to the course to see if we can get in some groundskeeping.

argh... short tees for MA2? crap I might just have to move up for this one. I doubt I'd cash, but at least I'd get to play from the big-boy tees. heh, my rating is 859... what happens if a solidly rec-rated player cashes in advanced? :D

hey rev, what happens to our side-bet if I play from the weenie boxes?

Jun 10 2004, 10:57 PM
Okay Baldguy, and I mean that in a loving way, *snicker*, don't get all bent. You will only play the...ahem..."regular boxes" on Olde Cameron. Our little wager is for The Beast, where you and I will be playing the same boxes. No reason to move up and get drilled just to compete with lil 'ole me. :)

As for what happens when a solidly rec rated player cashes in advanced, this is a subject I happen to have some personal knowledge of. Hit me up this weekend and I'll explain all about how it works (the joy, the pain, the triumph, the alienation - its a story that's got it all).

Now, in regards to those shirts, I can guarantee you some built in clientele all around the state. Perhaps nationwide. I can name at least a half dozen guys (and maybe one girl-ie) who'd buy one right now! Why didn't I think of that?

Of course, that could just be me being self-absorbed. Gimp? What say ye? Grandly delusional or viable humor?

Pat, don't forget about the growing number of folks who actually have reason to WANT to wear one. My goal this weekend is to place you among their number.

baldguy
Jun 10 2004, 11:05 PM
self-absorbed? surely not! :p I meant that I am considering moving up just so that I get to compete on the long boxes... not just to compete with lil' ol' you :D. I've been meaning to play one or two tourneys in advanced just to see if I play up to the level of my competitors; some say it's a good idea. As for the now infamous side bet, it'll be just for the beast, eh? total score for both beast rounds? I say that if I do move up, we play total overall score. I might need olde cam's birdie holes to help me out :o

you don't think i can shoot low 60s on the east course? heh well now i have a second goal:

1. beat atwood.
2. prove atwood wrong

I think I met the dude you are talking about and he's from Jonesboro which is just north of here. He was talking to a junior player about cheating on his score. Funny thing was I had just told the kid the same thing because he was cheating every chance he got during the round. Why did the guy ask Joey for his money back?
Cuz glad to see you might soon be employed. Now go ahead and enter the tourney.
Sorry no car dolly yet but I'll look around for y'all. The sun shined all day on Thursday and more of the same is expected for Friday(today). As for myself, I made the mistake of playing in 95 degree heat while on medication (Mucinex) that apparently is bad about dehydrating whomever is lucky enough to take it. Even Atwood beat me (double or nothing in July?). :-)

how is a 53 on the beast only a 983 rating?

when i played the NT at Waco this year I shot a 56 which was rated over 1000.

Jun 13 2004, 11:34 PM
Very nice shootin Tim on that last round. You deserve the win especially after that hot round. Very well run tourny Joey. Hope to play next year. If I am still in the country.

Results are up if you go to the pdga tour link (listed above). The ratings look to be put in like everyone played the same course at the same time which would account for the strangely high intermediate ratings and the strangely low advanced ratings...

Awesome tournament.

On day 1, second round at the Beast for the Int. menWe started on Hole 5, but watched the Littlest-Man-with-the-Biggest Arm (Marcus Lujan) put 3 consecutive shots into the pond on #6 before finally carding out with a 10. Not to be outdone, Thomas Kansas White on our card put his first two shots into the pondand then grip-locked his next shot, which did not go over the pond, but instead landed on the boat ramp near #5s tee box. But at least it was dry and not another penalty stroke. But, his throw from the boat ramp also found the pond. Kansas finally made the green on his next throw, but missed two putts to finally card an 11.

Also, while waiting for the awards ceremony, the inevitable Throw a Disc Across the Brazos spectacle started. I stopped counting after the 70th disc was thrown into the river (probably about 525-550 across according to most people). I even witnessed a couple of CE Valks get sacrificed to the muddy brown water.

After about 20 attempts, 14 year old (or is he 15 yet?) Matt Hall finally unleashed a DX Beast that held its line just long enough to find the opposite shore. It was the only one I saw get acrossalthough, Intermediate player Blake Stratdman came within about 10 feet of reaching the other side, also with a DX Beast.

Jun 14 2004, 10:41 AM
Hey Rooster i saw the same thing before my card walked up to 6. I saw last years adv. champ through 3 discs in the water before carding a triple circle 8. It was a rough hole. The beast was good to me one day and bad to me on the other.

you right about big payouts!
Am for life....I think they should get a players package with no payout. :DBut then the T.D.S would have even a bigger problem with the the ams paying for the pro turnout. :oMaybe....just maybe the T.D.'s that can raise money for their event through sponsorship should be the only ones running tournaments.... all the rest stop running events. There are way to many events in Texas between non sancationed events to events that only draw 35 or 40 people.
If you can't draw more than 40 people, stop holdiong your event and support a event that has a big draw. Nothing wrong with a small Dallas event giving its support to something like Texas States.Look at it this way if there was only 20 event in Texas a year and each of them had 120+ players with $2000 added to each, as a players you would enjoy this events more than you would at some 40 player event that can't even supply food. If someone wants to run a sancationed event in their little town, they should be expected to meet a large amount added. Bottom line if a event has 10 pros with no added money and 40 ams .....you better belive the T.D. is make some GOOD money. Belive me the T.D. should get paid for his efforts. But making the house payment off the events ams turn out is WRONG! The schedule should have 5 or six non sancationed event and 20 or so big sancationed. All the rest be one day minis.

Back to Waco....thanks to Joey and all the locals. Waco is always a great place to play, work, and spend time around disc golf.

Notice Troy (I try to throw distance) Soules is very quite. He gave me an old putter on Saturday afternoon and challenged me to throw across the river. I landed just 40 or 50 feet short of making it across. You should have seen the look on the poor little guy :D Some TD's can throw remember that Troy. Saturday afternoon Troy put an archangel over, and it had at least another 80-100 feet to go. It hit the trees up about 40 feet. That was the first disc to make it over, and there must have been another 12-15 that got within 30 feet or so. I wasn't able to hang around to watch Sunday's display :(

You gotta be careful with these types of comparisons, especially given the wind during the pro weekend. That being said, Tim's round was such a relative [*****]-kicking over a solid field, that it probably deserves a similar rating.

Jun 14 2004, 03:26 PM
the wind was from a different direction in March, and only slightly stronger. helps on some holes, hurts on some others. comparitively, it didnt matter.

Many lines that were available Pro weekend were double the size they are now, especially on the Beast. there's things called leaves and underbrush that really choke off 10-17 in June compared to March.

The lane on Olde #9 is now about 1/3 - 1/4 the size it was in March. Combined with the bamboo gone behind the pin, that hole now requires a damnnear perfect shot or you're in serious trouble. The lane reduction on Olde #15 is similar. Maybe thats why Joey had 15-18 short all weekend.

Jun 14 2004, 03:39 PM
Some of the locals said it was perfect weather for a hot round. That round should be atleast 1000

Jun 14 2004, 04:26 PM
You can not compare scores on olde cameron, the baskets were all in the long spots. # 17 is at least one amybe two shots longer.#16 is a shot longer,#18 is on the hill, try to ace that.

the real comparison is the beast.

mostly i agree with you regarding the Olde side. however, long #16 should not be a shot longer for advanced and above. #17 Pro-long is arguably a par-4 for the Pros, and it was short all Am weekend, which should yield 50% birdies. as far as #18 goes, it was a challenging headwind Am weekend and a favorable tailwind pro weekend. At 350' or so, a decent sidearm (which most pros have) gets a rightie up the hill, especially with that wind. As a lefty, i was drooling for a shot at the hill position this weekend, even with the headwind. (had to settle for a drop in birdie thanks to a beeline drive with a Flash.)

The wind was blowing harder the fourth round pro weekend at East vs. am. It was unarguably the worst wind I've seen at East. I was doing the live score for the second card. I kept saying " I'm glad I'm not playing". As for am weekend you could'nt ask for better conditions.

Himing, I will throw for distance against you anytime, and for money at that. So bring it!

I did throw one across, it was over half way up the trees when it reached the other side and it was still on line. I did skip one off the water onto the bank. But I don't count that since it was not in the air.

and yes Chris did out drive me with a putter. I am not afraid to admit that. but lets throw drivers and see who the best is. at that lets throw drivers, mid range and putters and see who can throw the longest in each. I will be waiting for your responce Himing. Just let me know?

It was a great weekend thanks to Joey and all that helped him run an always wonderful tourney, I had a great time. and had some great cards to play with. See ya'll next time.

Well, you need to add a degree of accuracy to the distance contest.

Put a line down the driving area and subtract the distance off the line from the distance thrown.

Jun 15 2004, 12:50 PM
One last question If you can throw that far why aren't you playing pro? Can you putt?

Have you looked at my wonderful rating (911) Yes that is my rating and Yes I do call 911 during most of my rounds.

I have not been known as a putter. But it is getting better and when I reach Pro level I will play Pro. I think that Playing Pro should be a Privilege. I don't think just anyone should be able to play Pro. Why you ask, just think about this, when you are play casual its fine to play with newbies and lower skilled golfers, but during a tournament where you want to do your best and you have a joker that thinks that he can play pro on your card and he is all over the place. Slowing down the flow of the round and then the pro's on the card get ****** and have a bad round. I don't want to be the reason why a pro plays bad. I have played in a pro tourney and I did have a good round when I played with some of the top pros, but the thought was there. I fully agree with the PDGA adding a pro 2 division and I can't believe that no one is supporting it. I say move all the lower pro's that are self proclaimed PRO'S and move them down and make them earn their way into the BIG BOYS division. and make it a year process, i.e. you have to play this many tourneys and you have to have a rating that is this high and you have to have placed this high in so many of the tourneys. I don't know, but that is my Opinion. And no one has to like it.

And thats all I have to say about that.

Yes, I put that on the board after the tournament you must have been on the road. Mark found it still floating!!!! I did see 2 guys one named Leonard out in the water in the other pond, he found one with a K inside. It wasn't till I got home and Mark said that was her mark. I told them since it was light weight and a "K" I probably knew the person, They said they return discs.

I would love to see my SE Leopard with the first "Atwood" dye. I lost it in Temple, The Island . It is white with a blue spin dye.
