I played the course yesterday and the new tee boxes are very sweet. Thanks to the Waterloo Club members that have put in all the time and sweat to get it done. You guys rock!

Oh yeah, Randy really liked the stone wall in 13's fairway. Good job! :D

hey guys, thanks for the accolades. we've been working hard and hope to get all the framed boxes filled as soon as the pard guy gets his dozer back from the shop, "any day now".
the pro and am boxes should offer some variety. we have permission to work on the boxes that will remain unchanged while we work through the approval process of the new redesign. will post when we can get a work day set. see ya on the course.

Great job.....Hey which box will be used for #2 ? up by the soccer fields or behind #1's basket.

dizzard
Mar 22 2004, 10:27 AM
a complete reconfiguration is in the works with the club and pard. we have walked the proposed changes with pard twice and have some slight adjustments to make on thier request. # 2 will probably become a memory as the plan is to get the course away from the trail as much as possible.

Mar 26 2004, 04:20 AM
Away from the trail ? Were not going to loose #4 are we ? What are some more of the planned changes ?

Great work, guys!! I snuck back home to Austin to pick up my son and we played a quick Circle C round. It was after a rain and was muddy. What are the plans for #4 and #11 tee boxes? Is there a chance of #11 being moved from the mud pit? #4 on the hill is fine IF you could see the chains.
I'll follow this thread and look forward to playing C again soon.

unfortunately we will lose some of those holes but we will be gaining some very nice new holes and more of them. the layout will be presented after the pard people approve. many major improvements over the existing layout , yes we will miss some of the old holes but when looking at what we can gain i think most golfers will be pleased.

BTW, are there any plans to move the baskets, on the original holes that are left, to the alternate positions? Also, will any of the new designs allow holes to be moved to the street side of the creek? The alternate holes that Houck had set up many years ago made use of the open area along Slaughter. It made one heckuva pretty golf course and was challenging as well. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

tee # 1 was under water but other than that not too bad. shot +4 and the wife shot +7. you guys with either girlfriends and or wife's that dont really play but want to walk, trying playing a game I call "wife" this is where you throw 2 drives on every hole and she gets the better of the 2 drivesand starts putting from there and on long holes you throw 2 from the tee and 2 from your worse shot than she takes the better of the 2 and starts putting from there. we both birdied hole # 6 :) try it out and let me know what you think. Hicks and tom can try this too :)

a new box and pin for 17 are in play. the hope/wish of a nice stacked rock background did not come to complete fruition due to the limited time frame of the bobcat from pard and the inaccesable location of some of the rock we hoped to use. all and all it is lacking in style and in my opinon somewhat of an eyesore but is some what functional.

We only have a few more weeks until the time change, so here is what is going to happen with the Waterloo Thursday Mini.

On Oct 14th, 21st, and 28th, the tee time will be 5 pm - so don't be late.

After the time change, the mini will go on hiatus until spring.

The ace pot is now at $220+ and growing. If there are no aces on Oct 28th, then the pot will be given away by CTP immediately following the round.

With the turnouts we have been getting, the pot would end up around $300. However, If we get more people the next few weeks coming out to play for the big pot, then the itcould get up to four or five hundred dollars. Come on out, have some fun, and shoot for some BIG BUCKS!

Found: blue 150g Champion Valkyrie at Circle C last Friday. Can barely read the name...last name seems to be "Pilcher". Anyone knows him, send me his/her phone number via PM. There's a phone number on the disc, I called it but doesn't seem to be a local number.

This Thursday, October 28th, will be the final Circle C weekly mini of the year. We will resume in the Spring when there is once again enough daylight in the evenings. There is a large acepot that is unclaimed. It is around $250 right now, and with enough people out there this Thursday it could easily top $300. If there are no aces during the round, we will have a CTP to give away all the cash. The start time is at 5pm sharp, so dont be late.

Well, unfortunately the main city planning person we need approval from was out sick today. However, the 2 people directly in charge of the park were both there and really liked the re-design. Also, there has been a guardedly optimistic response from the neighborhood association (a key player in any major work out there).

Dan Mueller and Mike Olse and all the other volunteers out there have done a GREAT JOB and a ton of work just getting it ready to this point. The course as they have it planned will be beautiful, fun, and challenging!

Hopefully next week will see the final approval happen. Keep your fingers crossed that the city will be with us this time.

Dog Owner alert.

If you take your dog to any austin disc golf course, watch them when they are off a leash. I've been informed that Austin animal control is beginning to patrol disc golf courses specifically targeting disc golfers. Two golfers that I know of have already been popped with leash law violations, one at searight and one at pease, which happened during the mini tonight. FYI

Gordon or Dan should chime in. I think they are designing a 24 hole course, but I heard that the chity folks will only allow 18 holes at a time. Probably has something to do their belief that parks are for trees, not people. I wonder if they cut any trees for those soccer fields? Oh wait, those people have lots of cash and influence.

Great news!!! The Circle C re-design project has received final approval from the city parks dept (and yes, the neighborhood association has approved it too).

We are going to have 2 work days this weekend at Circle C to get things moving along, Saturday January 29th and Sunday January 30th. We need volunteers to be there starting at about 8:30 am each day.

When the project is finally completed, we will have a beautiful 24-hole course (all 24 in play at all times) with a practice basket, bulletin board, framed tee-boxes including some holes with pro and am boxes, tee signs, benches, and basket areas that wont erode away. We will also do some work helping the old, no longer utilized areas recover.

While the city is providing some materials, most of this project will happen because of the club and all the disc golfers out there. The club is purchasing all the new baskets, and will be coordinating the volunteer efforts to install them, clear the new holes, chip the cut cedar into mulch and distribute it, build the tee-boxes, create erosion controls such as terraces and berms, etc.

Please bring:

Rakes
Shovels
Loppers (pruners)
Weedeaters
Chainsaws
Lawnmowers (and one or two riding mowers would be great too)

We will have some drinks and food for our volunteers. Come on out and help us make a difference at our disc golf courses!

Great Big Thanks to Dan Mueller and Mike Olse who have already put hundreds of hours and lots of muscle into this project. And thanks also to those folks who have helped Dan and Mike out with the work.

Hope to see you all out there this weekend,
Waterloo Disc Golf Club

will need alot of help hauling cut brush/cedars from the ridge on the southside of the park that runs along old #6 fairway.

NEWS FLASH, the austin parks and rec dept. has rescheduled the use of thier equipment for the workday this weekend due to the weather. the bobcats and trucks will be available on feb 12 and 13th. the thought was that the rain would prevent access to all the areas needed and the soft ground would get torn up. we will still have some work to do with cutting and brush stacking. plan will be to have all the fairways cut and the mulching material stack by the the 12th. waterloo club members will be out in force this weekend performing the prep work. please come out and give a hand. thanks. dan.

gordonmk
Jan 28 2005, 03:25 PM
OK, here is the plan straight from Dan...

The city will have their big equipment ready for Sat. Feb 12th and Sun. Feb 13th, so those will be our big work days (again... weather permitting).

We will still have a smaller workday tomorrow (Sat.Jan 29th). There is still plenty to do to get ready for when the big equip.is available. Cutting stuff, dragging it to where the chippers will be placed, framing tee boxes, digging holes, etc.

This Sunday's work day is cancelled altogether because of the expected bad weather.

It pains me greatly to post this, but, tonight around 7pm Alan Kubala's disc golf bag was stolen from hole #2 at Circle C. AK has been working hard to build some cool artistic benches on some of the holes. I'm 99.9% sure it was a disc golfer because there was a couple hundred dollars worth of tools sitting there and all they took was the bag of discs. AK had only left for a moment to grab some more timber from the woods only to return to find his bag stolen. The discs and bag are obviously easily replaceable, but a person's drive to volunteer their time to make the world a little better place is not.

So if anyone sees any discs marked AK please feel free to inquire about how they came to be in that persons possession. If the answers seems fishy......... A lot of people are working really hard to get this course in the ground. I've already had to deal with a lot of ***** from people that has just about made me crack...... though this is not the straw that will break the camels back, it is the straw that will cause me to break someone's nose. So please be kind and respectful to the course and those who are painstakingly building the course.

We will be posting signs about this occurrence in an attempt to get someone to snitch, but for the most part please get the word out and maybe we can find the scum bag. I would close with "if you stole Alan's bag and are reading this post meet me at....", but I'm assuming whoever did this is pretty much an illiterate vegetable with only opposable thumbs separating them from a dung beetle, so I would be wasting my time.

have a nice day

Feb 15 2005, 12:48 AM
That blows man. I would like to say that I've met some of the best people ever in this sport we all love so much. For someone to steal a mans bag of discs is the lowest thing you could do. I'd probably go to jail over that if it happened to me and I caught them. Please keep your eyes out to help this guy get his bag back. No-one likes a f@#$in theif. Get em and take care of buisness.
Peace out and good luck...

i'm starting a reward/replacement fund with $25, will welcome all contributions. let's see what ak has been throwing and gather some of our extras to get him back to golfing.
it's very disheartening to hear about this kind of self centered greed. i'm astonished how in just a short period of time the course has been littered with cans, bottles and trash. it's been open all of two weeks and the problems are starting. maybe we should give it up and start shooting trap at a gun club , i bet they don't get ripped off.
to contribute to ak's replace/reward fund for now look for mike or myself on the course.

disctance00
Feb 15 2005, 12:17 PM
That is so wrong. Find out what he throws and I will get him some plastic. AK is a good dude and is making some very unique *** ploppers. Don't let the theft detour you from making these creative benches Alan.

I truly believe the Waterloo DGC needs to charge people fifty cents or a dollar to play out there. There is a lot of traffic out there and these courses cost a lot to upkeep. Pay to play isn't all that bad as long as it isn't that much, people will do it, especially a course of this caliber. Maybe some of the riff raff will avoid going there, maybe not. I would like to see some of these courses become more self sufficient instead of chewing up club dollars and peoples donation wallets. If that isn't feasable then maybe somebody can throw some ideas out there also or the whole issue can be avoided and watch this fine course slowly go down hill.

It seems that the longer Ive been around the game, the more I find it less enticing. After over 25 years of competitive disc sports Im fed up and ready to quit. There used to be a code of honor that prevailed amongst the players. Respect your competitor, play by the rules, applaud the great play of others, lose gracefully and win humbly. Leave the course as it is or better then when you arrived.

What Im finding these days is non-stop littering of the courses, destruction of equipment, breaking / cutting of tree limbs that are integral components of hole designs, stolen baskets and win at all costs behavior. Its disgusting.

The latest travesty happened to very good friend and old school Ultimate player / Disc Golfer Alan Kabala yesterday at Circle C in Austin. While working on the new course his entire dg bag was stolen. He was working on the new #2 tee box and while off fetching materials for a few minutes someone took his bag from where it was hidden under a tarp.

Anyone out there who finds their playing partner throwing discs with an AK on it should keep a close eye on their possessions. If the guilty party reads this I can only say to you that I hope I catch you in the act.

So please fellow disc golfers, lets bring back integrity to the sport we love. Without it we all lose.

well said alex. the sense of goodwill that was an integral part of the game appears to be dwindling. we look like we are headed toward some type of wwf mentality and i find it disturbing. thanks for your support.

Feb 15 2005, 02:23 PM
Don't quit on us Alex, there is still some good left out there. The likelihood of the person who stole AKs bag reading this board I would say is slim. It is more than likely one of the dumb high-schoolers out sneaking a beer away from mom. At least I hope it is that. I guess I'll definately start keeping my bag closer to me. Let me know what AK throws and I'll see if I can donate a disc or two to the cause.

He throws lots of san marino rocs and he told me to pick up your offer this weekend. ;)

Alex, you are getting the old man syndrome. You know, "back in the day, everyone was honest and life was a bowl of cherries." IMO, nothing has changed, most of the tourney players have always been good people, but the general disc golf course population has always had its share of scummy riffraff. So, don't fret and go leave the game and all, AK will be OK.

As for what AK throws, I can only remember Aeros for sure and QJs and Rocs. Probably Orcs also.

You are too generous Vinnie, but you know better than to take my blather seriously. Except when I speak about Coach Knight or the Red Raiders. :p

vinnie
Feb 15 2005, 04:42 PM
I am serious I'll hook him up with a nice roc.
And as far as red raiders go ....you all will only have to play us one more time for the year.
And that is cause it's scheduled.......come tourny time...the horns will NOT have to worry about the radiers cause we will not be in the NIT ;)

See, just title a thread "worthless scum of the earth piece of...." and soon enough talk of the Red Raiders and Bobby Knight breaks out. :D

Dan, if you see AK, get a list of what he needs and post it here please. He can probably get a lot donated.

knight is scum?....atleast he is basketball scum...unlike the lips of barns....he's a good.........father I guess. I will putt good money he would be a good volley ball coach. Nope I would lose that bet.....That sport has a round ball too.

What kind / color of bag was it? The thief might be dumb enough to carry it, especially at another course. Even if it wasn't unusual, a high school kid throwing like a one-disc-wonder but carrying a big bag full of discs might be worth a closer look...

Feb 16 2005, 12:02 AM
Ak I played thru while your bag was there, so probably one or two cards behind my card was 2 young casual golfers probably high school age. I saw them as we teed on 5 then never again, I wondered why they never came out of the woods on 4.
It is such a shame for a few to screw it up for the rest, Ak always sets an examle of how to be as a player and especially his respect for the course. My first memory of getting to play on his card was watching him pick up other's cigarette butts, To this day that is my Karma secret. (Inever let one sit) Thanks AK

I've got a sidewinder AK can have. AK if you are reading this, just let me know where you want to meet (Pease mini or Circle C mini this weekend possibly) and I'll give you the sidewinder.
Is there going to be any more work done (help needed) on Circle C this coming weekend?

It's in Okie. Cris, I would take Vinnie's response as a resounding "no." However, if I said "Vinnie, how bout a friendly wager on next tuesdays game in Lubbutt" he would jump all over it. He's a Red Raider, but he has some smarts. :p

I am sorry to hear that his bag got stolen. I had mine stolen last summer/early fall. There were some good disc golfers that hooked me up with some good deals on a bag and some discs.

I would send him some discs, but it sounds like the only discs I have that he throws are QJLS's and someone is donating them already.

if he throws JK valks I might be able to sent him one depending on the weight.

Feb 16 2005, 08:19 PM

Ya know, guys, the last few threads show just what kind of folks REAL disc golfers are! Offers from as far as North Carolina! :) That's real CLASS!! As for the jerk that stole AK's bag, what goes around, comes around. Karma will nail the idiot sooner or later.

If you N.C. guys have the chance to visit the Austin, Texas area, you have a place to stay at my house. Just PM and I'll put on the BBQ :D

Talked with AK last night and he said he's already been given enough gifts/discs to meet his needs. He was at first particularly upset by the fact that someone would steal someone elses discs, but he said people's generousity has restored his outlook. Vinnie, Lou, Cris, and all the locals that gave or offered AK discs, thanks from everyone, it was cool. TThe cheatt and The Truth, y'all are especially cool, offering plastic to a stranger across the country. He thought that was great.

Ware, he did request a red wildcat from you though. :p

Just thought I'd take time to thank Dan, Mike, and all the other volunteers for all of their hard work out at Circle C. I sit in the box at Pease and seldom get away to play other courses. However, I do hear from golfers that play all over the city, state, etc.... Every day for a while now the buzz is that Circle C is shaping up to be a real gem. Largely due to these guys dedication and sweat. Way to go! D.Moody

i want to take a moment to give all thanks, praise and appreciation to everyone and anyone who helped make circle c. what it is today.

i only got through 15 holes but everyone i played i loved. i hope this course stays in the ground for years and years to come. texas doesn't have any courses like this one, at least that I know of. i guess the back nine of the beast comes to mind and the some of the original back 9 of circle c with a sick twist. :D

the benches, the fairways, the canopy and NO THUMBERS FROM THE TEEPAD!!! :Dthe course is fooking great!!

if you read this thread and play this course. DO NOT LITTER ON THE COURSE!! NO BUTTS, NO CANS, NO BOTTLES. NO F*CKING TRASH!! GET IT?

i cant say enough about the course except for thanks to a bunch of hard working people who made this for all of us. the new circle c. reflects a lot more than a great disc golf course.

Thanks!!

Dan, Mike, et al.,

I've made a couple maps of the new layout, one superimposed on an aerial photo, and the other just a sketch.

They can be downloaded from:

Please let me know if there are any corrections or additions needed. I only remembered where the am. tees were for #'s 5 & 6 (even though that's where I should be throwing from... :o), so I'll check those next time I'm out.

Great job redesigning my home course, I like it know more than ever. I pinned the new #8 (the hole after old #3) 2 weeks ago, do I have the first ace on that hole? just curious. The new #21 ruined my score though, that hole is brutal and one of the toughest that I have ever played.

glad you like it joe. not sure who's done what ace wise other than cowboy bob with an ugly through and off the tree #4. his words not mine. i just missed 8 myself but the boxes on 8 &9 are barely playable since the rain and have'nt a decent shot out of the tee since. it will improve immensely when we can get some material up there in the boxes.
