I met a great group of people from Houston at Twin Parks yesterday. I had a great time playing the blue boxes on the Parkshire course with the guys in the first picture on their afternoon round. Thanks and please come back again soon .

My brother, dad and I are in Houston for the weekend and have already taken in a few courses. Here's a few of my thoughts.
MacGregor- flat, but fun. Not super clearly marked, but we did run in to some locals that made it a little easier to find our way.
Mazola- Nice bit of elevation. Nice water/bayou hazards as well. My dad lost a Tracker in the tall stuff off to the left of #2. What's with the basket by #7's tee? We never found the tee pad for #9.
Tom Bass- I hate to say it, but we were disappointed. I had heard/read nothing but praise for these two courses prior to our trip. After finding out that this is where Texas States are held each year I was sure we were in for Houston's finest. However, what we found was less than stellar in my opinion. Are these conditions normal? Knee high grass, and un-walkable, swampy fairways and mud/swamp tee boxes. . Overgrown bushes in/on the tee (#3 Wilmont). And I don't know how you guys deal with the mosquitoes! Those things are treacherous! Perhaps we are just here at an inopportune time with all the rain that has been falling, but after reading that there was a bass sighting in the fairway...

I don't want anyone to think I'm just bashing to bash, I'm just giving my impressions, as a visitor. And perhaps we are just too used to our well groomed and maintained forest and mountain courses in the MADC region.

Hopefully our impressions of Houston disc golf is changed, as we are meeting up with a local to play a couple other courses.

Yeah....Bass is not the best kept course....when it is groomed, it ROCKS!! I know for sure several people in the DG community are working with the parks department to get the course better cared for. And yes the skeeters SUCK!! I always keep repellent on hand and apply several times during rounds. Just try to keep the bug juice away from your throwing hand.

If you get this in time, try Jack Brooks, Spring Valley $2, and Bear Branch Sportsfield Park

You got a skimboard or a surfboard? That's the only recreational items in use on the Texas coast this weekend.

McDade in Conroe is far better than The Woodlands (bearbranch), and hey, it's rained how many days in the last two months?

Bass is NOT a summer destination. The Parks Dept. can't get out into the swampy mess to mow, and skeeters are just everywhere around here.

Oak Meadow would be a better choice IMO.

Or if you prefew to mix up your shots Spring Valley would be better than Oak Meadow.

The only Mini in Houston is Sundays at Spring Valley. The Jester league is on Thursdays.

The course is a PnP.

Hey, does Gueillermo ever post on this board, I forgot to ask him yesterday for some free architectural advice.

Oh yeah, to stay on topic: Mizzola is near downtown, and has more hills than any Austin course. ;)

LOL, I don't think I'm headed East this weekend either as the thought of Oktoberfest and plentiful funds keep me home bound this weekend.

May you not be bitten on your backside while doing mound construction! :D

Hope we see you next weekend!

Oh, you will definitely see me next weekend. Moreover, you will hear me (i mean hear my drum) next weekend.

Approving the design of the new course at Brooks is in a stalemate with the county. They don't like how we propose to use one of the ponds. Nothing we can't work out though. It has been too hot to do any clearing. This fall it will happen, or I'm writing a check for 3k to the county and they can finish it.

Yeah...come on out for the mini at Spring Valley! :D

I think that Spring Valley might be the best course in Houston. And did I mention that they LIKE disc gofers up there?

$10 entry fee. We usually play the Finesse 18 course.
