Went out and tried to play Rivery yesterday........needs a huge amount of work. Walked up to the tee of #1 only to find it under water, as well as the #2 basket!! #3's tee box is gone I think but the basket is playable. Needs alot of mowing. Holes 4-16 are playable but then 17, 18 are ?? I am shocked that nobody up north has not done anything to make is playable?? Sure is a darn shame......oh that man made pond people are talking about is basically a mosquito breeding heaven. I would come out for a work day if I knew that other golfers were interested....

Me and Rick S will be starting to throw mini's at Rivery Park in Oct. We will be doing some clearing soon to make it more playable and asking for some volunteer work. I am talking with the city to find out how quick the hike trail will be started. Played out there yesterday and they seem close to start constructing the path.

We are either going to do it on mondays or thursdays. Anyone with interest on playing there please let us know what seems best. Personally I think mondays will be better. Thanks for the response.

Edman, post a work day as early as possible, need time to schedule with Mrs. JAB and the work place. Can't play the mini's, most golf these days is the 12pack 18/27hole drunk fest as time permits. Still, would be willing to put in some weedeater time to make the Rivery playable.

FIRST WORKDAY AT RIVERY TUESDAY 30TH OCT.,
We will start on hole 1 and work our way through the park one hole at a time. #1 needs serious attention. Could use an x-tra mower and weedeater.

Geno, you out there lurking? Did you get a chance to get those moweres from your buddy?

This is a great course that needs to get back in shape. 90% of all work will be done by golfers. Please help when you can. This will be going on all month.I will keep posting all dates... Thanks for coming out..

Edman is now Riverman...and it feels goooood. Workday will be this Sat. the 11th, and we will have our first mini right after we finish working.

I want to personally thank all my brothers at the ROCK for supporting me, esp. V, and others in Austin. I know I can count on you guys to help me whip this course into shape. There is probably one more good day of hard work and the rest is just basic clean-up. We will not do much to the river holes, they will be pulled, not sure when but it will happen.

Minis will start this month. Round Rock/Rivery league sounds inviting. Big plans for this course and the city. See you Sat.@10am..Thanks......for comin out.

went to Rivery yesterday for about an hour of cleaning than played a round. THE COURSE LOOKS AWESOME. Still some major work needed on clearing on 17 and some major cutting and clearing on 18 down by the basket. trying to see when would be best for the next work day. Ed, Mike, Rick and his wife are not going to be able to get this done by themselves. so POST on here what day would be a good work day. thanks

Oct 22 2003, 12:10 PM
When my schedule changes I will be able to put in more time to the course.
Have to say the course WAS awesome and very cart friendly. I wouldn't mind playing tomorrow.

Oct 26 2003, 08:50 AM
Great day for golf yesterday and the course played nice. Got to see other people out there besides us. I think that #18 is the only hole that really needs some work done. Mainly by the basket. Next week I will be heading out there to do some work on it. If anyone wants to pitch in that would be great.
Riverman, are there going to be any changes to holes along the creek by the challenge course?
Anyone in the Austin League wanna play next week call me at home.837-0411
I think that this is an awesome course and if you haven't played here, you're missing out.

Directions- N-I35 to Georgetown exit 261-A. loop back South on frontage road to first street on right. Turn right. Huge rock that says The Rivery. turn right imidiatley and park side of frontage road. Follow road/path down to hole #1 on right. Course begins under/near overpass. The course is cart friendly.

Oct 29 2003, 09:42 PM

Nov 06 2003, 01:10 PM
I think in singles its -7 or 8. . I would play # 2 first as you come down the hill than play # 1 walk down the road until you see where the sidewalk starts tee form there to # 3. than the course is the same. up until you get to # 17 it is across the dirt road both 17 and 18 are on that side. it is not hard to follow.

I shot -9 at Rivery.

james_mccaine
Nov 06 2003, 02:30 PM
-9. Way to go. How's that knee? I absolutely love that course. I can see someone (else most probably) shooting a -9 (or better), but in my limited rounds, I've shot a +2 and a -3 and thought I played decently.

Hey Rick, thanks for the pictures on the website. They just make we want to get sick and go out there. It's interesting how the picture of #1 (or #2) does not do it justice. It looks relatively easy in the picture, but I'd be happy to average 3s on it.

Nov 06 2003, 02:42 PM
James, thanks for asking. The knee is better but still sore and swollen. No running yet. I am considering pumping up the bike tires. It only hurts on my run-up other than that it doesn't bother me in golf.

-9 should've been -10, i missed a dinker 15 footer for par on my last hole # 2.

Nov 06 2003, 03:34 PM
-9 very nice...that busts my bubble of thinking i had it with a -7...well just have to practice a little more....the doubles record for the course is -11 but i dont know who it was though.

i know. i once saw gene throw a shot back toward old #5, 50 ft away in this kind of wind. it landed on it's side, rolled around the backet, and headed back toward him. when it went by him it was really picking up speed, 800 ft later it went in the water about pin high old hole #7(original course) took everyone awhile to finish laughing about that one.
never said windy golf wasn't fun.

I'm envisioning that scene. Did y'all clap when it finally came to rest in the water? :)

Now that I think about, in the old days, you would have to go down to the lake and throw from OB, but nowadays, you can just retee. Hell after 600 feet of rolling, I'd probably be rooting for it to go OB.

Played and I will play it again next Sunday. Tplace looks way different than the last time I was there. With riverman and all the river gang. THIS WILL BE A GREAT COURSE. Something needs to happen with a few holes. I suggest leave the long boxes on #3& #18, change hole 2 into 1, take hole 1 out and make a new hole around the lake as hole 2. Take #16 out and make a hole between #15 & #17 with less walk.
Riverman we should talk. And we will this Sunday.

james_mccaine
Nov 25 2003, 10:27 AM
Vinnie, Vinnie, Vinnie. Please do not take out either 1 or 2. Those holes are both AWESOME. The whole freakin course is AWESOME. A lake hole would also be AWESOME, but not at the expense of 1 or 2. Please please please, not hole #1 or #2.

vinnie
Nov 25 2003, 10:34 AM
I guess you have never played the long #3, The walk from hole 2 to hole 3 is WAY to long of a walk and the walk from basket 16 to #17 is WAY too long. Old people always bucking change. Collect your SS check and shut your mouth. :o

Nov 25 2003, 10:43 AM
HEY, HEY

james_mccaine
Nov 25 2003, 10:49 AM
Where is long three? I played it from an unmarked area near the path. It was not a long walk from what I assume is 2's basket. If my assumed #2 is really #1, then I agree that is a long walk, but just change the numbers and it's a short walk.

Also, the walk to 17 is nothing compared to some of the walks I had this weekend. :)

vinnie
Nov 25 2003, 10:57 AM
cause you had to make long walks before makes it ok?
FLOW OF COURSE!!!!
Lets do this play #2 at Zilker, walk to peace play hole 3,walk to bart play hole 3, and so on and we would of played a great course with NO FLOW.
I playin wit you

james_mccaine
Nov 25 2003, 11:31 AM
cause you had to make long walks before makes it ok?

I hear what you are saying, but in general (not referring to any hole we are discussing) if the choice is between a long walk and a great hole and a short walk and a crappy hole, this old man will walk.

J A B
Nov 25 2003, 06:12 PM
How about #2 becomes 1, #1 becomes hole 2, then add a tee box on the side of the pond where baskets 1 and 2 are located, maybe something that puts the water into play?

I agree that the distance from 2 to 3 and 16 to 17 are long, but I also would not want to lose holes 1 and 2(how ever they are re-numbered or played). Just an opinion.

thcplz
Nov 27 2003, 01:17 AM

Nov 27 2003, 04:06 AM
if you play hole 2 as 1 and 1 as 2 it is not a long walk to 3 at all. i say leave 1 and 2 because they are 2 of the more difficult holes on the course.

Everybody lurking out there needs to attend the Lago mini sunday morning and then get your butts to the Rivery for an afternoon round. We will go at 3 not 2:30 so everybody gets plenty of time to eat and get there. Will decide this week on a permanent time. It will be on Sundays, and on the 3rd Sunday of the month we will be doing the WilCo Sunday. Morning round of dubs at the ROCK and afternoon singles at the RIVERY. Still shaking loose minor details, but you won't want to miss this. Working on lunch sponser and charity work. Please stayed tuned for more details very soon.

Dec 08 2003, 06:59 PM
We ended up playing random dubs.
Vinnie/McCaine and Hubbard/Olse tied at 7 down and split
Edman/Rick J missed it by 1 at 6 down(we gave em a run)
only 11 players made it out and we threw off the ace pot

This sunday coming up Frank Hubbard is doing a food drive mini tourney for a local charity. I will be unable to attend(sisters graduation) and he could really use as much support as possible. He will be doing this once a month and it is set up for the 2nd sunday of the month at 10:30 am. I know there is alot of minis planned throughout the cities but if you have a chance please come out and support this for a great cause. I will get more details from pip tonight and post them tomorrow.

Also please keep a look-out for a used riding mower for NSGC in Lago. Let's find Jon one first and then start hunting one down for the Rivery. Big plans next year for the JUNGLE. I will post more details tomorrow for the food drive. edman gone

edman, since the closest course to rivery, other than the rock of course, is burnet, let's talk about scheduling some that will coincide with the monthlies i want to start doing here.

i was originally thinking 3rd sundays, but that's out with that being the scheduled day for wilco sundays at the rock and the rivery.

i want to get something going out here fairly soon, but i don't want to step on anyone's lie. :)

What a BUNCH of Horse CHIT! Who moved # 9 tee rope back to take out the thumber? I have a pretty good idea But would like to hear who moved it. It is kinda FUNNY how when certain shots some can throw and OTHERS can't that the hole changes what a bunch of PU$$ies..

Dec 23 2003, 12:54 PM
Agreed.....I have seen a similar thing happen before, just becasue some puss has a screwed up shoulder, and cant throw an overhand shot......

james_mccaine
Dec 23 2003, 01:01 PM
I not sure which one is # 9, but I have my suspicions also.

ps. I hate those wussie shots, :) but I did argue with "someone" (who kicked my butt all over that course by the way) very recently that it was OK to leave some boxes to allow those shots, but of course I lost that argument. Imagine what "someone" hates those shots more than me? Who could that be?

However, as a defense to that "someone", it may not have been them because although they are constantly talking about changing that course, I don't think they have done it yet. Confused? I bet not.

Dec 23 2003, 01:03 PM
how did you do Sunday at Rivery James? I shot -5 there yesterday around noon.

seewhere
Dec 23 2003, 01:05 PM
# 9 is dog leg left at the end than back right around the bush that stops all the straight shots. I think that bush should be cleaned up. and NO I am not confused.

james_mccaine
Dec 23 2003, 01:23 PM
I shot +14. Woohoo!!!!! On that hole, I don't think (or really know) that "someone" was responsible.

Dec 24 2003, 12:53 PM
What is course par out there anyways? I was shooting an even back nine (good for me) before i got to the long box at 18. I've 2ed that hole a couple of times from the (now) short box but shooting from the longs left me with a 6. Thats a good example of changing the box position. I dont see the point in moving the box back 10-20 feet on nine. It really doesn't make the hole that much harder.

WELL, WHO WAS THE BAGGER SHOOTING +3 IN AM'S???

Jan 13 2004, 01:13 AM
I played in his group and his first name was Josh. Don't know his last name but he did say he was from Round Rock. He told me his best round out at Rivery was a 3 under. We were pretty even through the first nine and I thought maybe I could hang but he made some great shots in the woods. I ended up with a personal best 61 which tied me for fourth.

Jan 13 2004, 09:25 AM
Sounds like Josh Nix to me......tall skinny guy? Former Hippy, and Skinhead, havent seen himlately to know the current doo...... Dischippie on the baord, even......

edman
Jan 13 2004, 11:56 AM
It wasn't Josh Nix, he just had a good round. The Rivery is the equalizer. Big arms and little arms are eqaul out there. If you can throw straight with a fade either way at the end 4-10ft off the ground you will shoot lights out there. :D

Jan 13 2004, 12:35 PM
Ahhh.....i didnt know how many Josh's you guys have playing the ROCK regularly....

lets make all the holes either Rollers or 450 ft HYZERS. you need to work on all types of shots. changing holes to prevent certain shots (that you can't throw) is BULLSH*T just my 2 cents.

Jan 13 2004, 03:59 PM
Bro....dying to get up your way, and get some golf in with ya!!

edman
Jan 13 2004, 04:09 PM
Easy big arm I was just *#@&ing with you. I wish I could learn that shot but there is so much more to practice. There's no practicing the tommy either you got it or you don't. 450 ft.hyzer coming up.

Jan 13 2004, 04:13 PM
LOL.....i LOVE the Thumber/Tomahawk....I only with i could throw it more than 250'.....same for a big hyzer.....

I need to move to THE ROCK, so i can get my drives over 350'....

vinnie
Jan 13 2004, 04:14 PM
One or two hole tommys are fine! Its when every or every other hole is a tommy is horseshirt. That would be like a course haveing a righty hyzer for every hole.

Jan 13 2004, 04:40 PM
****, didn't know this tomahawk thing was such an issue. I would have to say yes, this Josh guy did hit some secret squirrel routes with the tommy in the back a couple of times. He just knew how to throw it through some of the small holes and make it turn back into the fairway close enough to make putts at the basket. He wasn't all tommys though. He did make some good backhand drives.

james_mccaine

Jan 19 2004, 11:43 AM
Light turnout for both the Rock and the Rivery. Brutal winds at both places and it got colder down in the hole. We had 4.5 teams at the Rock and 9 at the Rivery. No ace hit yet sundays ace at the Rivery $78 and a nice Course fund building. First $ goes to double chains on all baskets, before state dubs hopefully. Kicking around a clean-up this weekend for both the Rock and the Rivery.

#4 is the one with the tight opening and the fence line, where if you make into the opening, Vinnie says "you're in the house" Right. If so, why would you put a wall behind the basket? Kick the hot shots out the back door, they don't belong in the house anyway. :p

James that's #5. As far as helping with what V was talking about your on your own. I don't like feeding gun powder to a pit bull. :D
I meet with the parks dept on friday for some last minute requests before TSD. I will try to get the tee signs moved saturday, so if anyone wants to help that would be great. A cordless sawzall would be awesome.

Thanks Ed, now I am confused as to where a wall on #4 would be.

So Chris, when you hit the hole, graze the basket, and fly out the back, does that mean "Chris was in the house, grabbed his beer from the fridge and is now out drinking on the back porch."

Yea, I'll do that. Hell, I'll just pick high cards for money like me and JD used to do after the poker game; just to insure one of us went home broke.

Are you guys speaking of the limb that has been down for a while now or has a new one fallen?
I had to cancel my meeting this morning with parks dept(Tony) he had a supervisor out and had to fill in for him. He assured me by wed-thur next week he would haul out all debris. I doubt they will have time to do anything else so if that limb is in the way we should take care of it Sat. All I need for the benches is the bolts and I will get them tonight. I can't commit to a time tomorrow right now, work is killing me. It will probably be around 2-3.

It was a branch that was already broke, but hanging in the tree. It feel some more making it very dangerous. So Paul Bunuon Ware helped it to the ground. It is not in the way of the basket but it will make for some tough putting. This branch is atleast big around as a basket ball. My chaisaw is not working. But if someone can cut it up I will gladly haul off the Liveoak firewood. If we can get it cut up please make it firplace size :D" you know easy to haul off"
