I'm working on a review of the UNC Chapel Hill course. I have Alt baskets on holes 1, 6, 7, 10, 15, 17. Are there any others? I've never seen an Alt basket on 6, but just read about it on the club website. Can someone confirm that there is one on 6?

It also seems that they now play only 1 set of tees for every hole. Is that correct?

This course changes so often that it's hard to keep track of it's latest set up.

Hello Lowe,

I played out there on New Years.

The course had a alt tee for hole #5, which was longer.

There was also a alt hole location for hole #14 (the valley hole), which is my favorite hole on the course. The alt hole is about 60 feet back tucked in the right corner of the trees.

I am not sure about any other tees, but I kinda remember 3 holes being longer, but cannot recall exactly.

Halton Smith or Andrew George will be able to help you, PM me if you need their email.

I just added a review of the Kannapolis Rec Center course to the DG Course Review Group (http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/DGCourseReviews/) . It's a private course that is only open during the summer. It's one of the easiest courses in NC, so it's most appropriate for kids and new players.

Great news!!

County gives $21K for southwest Durham disc golf course
By Carolyn Rickard : The Herald-Sun, Jan 20, 2008

Durham County is kicking in some $21,000 to help build a flying disc golf course in southwest Durham County. The Open Space and Trails Commission grant will pay for half of the course in Leigh Farm Park. The other half will come from the Durham Orange Recreational Disc Golf Association. Leigh Farm Park is between Interstate 40 and New Hope Creek.

Click here (http://www.heraldsun.com/durham/4-917217.cfm?) for the article.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, so I put it here.
A few buddies and I are planning a road trip for Charlotte in June. We are definitely playing Renny. What other courses should we play? We figure we can play 2 on Friday, if they're close enough, and Renny on Saturday. Possibly one Sunday morning if it can be a fairly quick(sub 2 hrs.) round.
Also, any suggestions on camping? Obviously, we're trying to do it on the cheap.
Thanks in advance for the help!

2 on friday could be sugaw and hornet's nest... def. play renny on saturday (gold if you feel up for it) and you could get in kilborne on sunday.

not sure about camping but i'll ask around... hop on charlottedgc.com and get on the forum there to get a better response from locals and hopefully hook up w/ some on the courses (you' might want one along for renny... its like climbing everest... you'll want to have a sherpa with you!)

also check out the club schedule on charlottedgc.com (should be up soon)... our club runs weekly singles tournies (usually ~40 people) on saturdays

I got in touch with Greensboro Parks and Rec. They said that Keely Park will be completly finished with the course installed in about five years from now (phase one by 2009). The course is going to be a part of Phase two. Here is the link to the Keely Park Development. http://www.greensboro-nc.gov/departments/Parks/planning/keeleyparkdevelopment.htm

UNCG opened a new course in Greensboro. It is called Piney Lake. I believe it is for UNCG students only. Elliot Wentz designed it, he decribes it as a good recreational course. I know there is two sets of pads (timbers). It is located off 421 South from Greensboro near Pleasant Ridge Road. Google it and UNCG.edu website info will appear.

Nice. Out on the way to Buckhorn. Probably only a 15-20min drive from me.

What's the low down on the course? I heard it was going to be a short course. I don't mind it being short as long as the design is good.

Sounds like it'll be in the ground in the next month or so, correct?

Kirk has estimated par at around 60, but that was just looking at where tees and baskets would be and not knowing what was going to be cut down.

I've been hearing late may early june for about 3 - 4 months now. Seems like things are in place for that.

Sorry for the SPAM, but I wanted to get the word out about the Sontag Open to our NC neighbors. I'll keep it short. Sontag disc golf course is south of Rocky Mount, VA and just a short drive from Greensboro, High Point and other NC areas. It is 7000' from the white tees, with elevation and sick par fours. I highly recommend it and welcome y'all to the Sontag Open in thirteen days.

PS--It's common knowledge that VA golfers suck, so come on up and take some easy money!

Troy, NC

Andrew and i have played it a few times. It's a short course with three sets of tee's. Red, white, blue. some whites are harder shots than the Blues.

If you are near the course it's a must play. to drive from High Point you would come away mad you drove a hour to play it with Gas prices the way they are. If I remember correctly. three of the nine holes are open, the other six are wooded. if you go he are some directions :after you pass the ball field on your right park at the tennis court. walk back in the direction of the ball field the blue tee is across the road.to number two's blue go past number one's basket to the walk trail past the tennis courts. the rest are easy to find. just follow the different colored bricks.

Now you have me wanting to play it again. it's super fun. you long arm's who hate short course will not like it. but believe me it's a technical course. loads of fun.

Holes 1, 2, 15, 17 and 18 are all open. Sure, there are trees, but for the most part, you won't hit any trees on these holes.

The rest of them are wooded - however, I would only call 2 or 3 of them tight.

There is a great course tour on the front page of www.raleighdiscgolf.com (http://www.raleighdiscgolf.com), but the site is down right now.

hey guys
good news about Barber Park: Barber Park Disc Golf

Local interest in the sport of disc golf lead to the development of this new program opportunity for Barber Park. This new offering sparked an instant bond between the local Disc Golf Association and the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department. Designed and installed by park staff and disc golf volunteers, the 18 hole disc golf course offers challenging play for participants of all skill levels on a course that winds around the grounds of beautiful Barber Park.

Local community organizations have been instrumental in the success of this program. The original goals were supplied by the Greensboro Disc Golf Association and local sponsor Omega Sports has recently supplied score cards complete with a course map, scoring format and discount coupons for participants to use. Members of the Disc Golf Association continue to assist the park staff with maintenance and course cleanup. Through the combined efforts of the Barber park staff and local supporters, Barber Park offers one of the best disc golf courses available in the area.

As part of Barber Park's Master Plan, a new, more challenging disc golf course has been designed to replace the current course. The new course will be included in a future phase of development. We encourage you to visit Barber Park during this exciting time of growth. Phase One of the Master Plan is underway and expected to be completed in mid- to late-2009.

Sorry to spam your thread, but I wanted to extend an invite to my NC friends. If you've never heard of Timber Ridge it's a private, championship disc golf course on a working cattle farm. It is a legit par 62 and is a mix of woods and open. It's definitely worth the trip. Let me know if you have any questions.

Battle of the Blue Ridge Team Championship is less than four weeks away on November 29, 2008 at Timber Ridge in Bedford, VA. Five people per team. Check out the website below for more info. Team golf, match play, private course... it doesn't get any better than that!

I saw an incredible sight at Barber Park that explained the power of disc golf. There were two middle aged, non-caucasian, housewife types carrying bags and playing a round of disc golf. I thought I was in Bizzaro World. It made me feel warm and fuzzy all over.

BARBER PARK NEWS! The complete 18 hole course is open. The toxic waste scare never amounted to anything real. So bring your discs, friends and get the golf going in Greensboro again. In other Greensboro News; UNCG and the Piney Lake Facility are making efforts to open the course to the public as a pay for play site. This would be an option in the spring of 2009. For level of interest/disgust regarding pay for play, please send a response regarding your feelings of whether you would ante up to play at Piney Lake.

I would love to hear from anyone that has played Luther Britt Park in Lumberton. We installed the course in 07 and have made improvements. I think it is an unique disc golf experience. There is lots of water on many holes. In my opinion, it is sort of like a "mini" Winthrop. The course is one mile off of I95 and located near the SC border. Wilmington and Raleigh are a little more than an hour away and Charlotte is just 2 hours. Real easy to get to. Check out our website for map and descriptions.

Wit played a monthly there recently. I played it on my way back from the beach once. There were some nice holes. I have a bad memory so I can't give a decent review. I thought one hole was a bit too close to the playground. Some folks bad shots are reallly bad and the playground must not come into play. Overall I remember that I enjoyed the course.

Middle Creek is a cool course. There are a few memorable holes. Hole #6 is a great anhyzer hole near the road. Hole #8 will be gorgeously challenging when the pines grow larger. Hole #10 is great tight tunnel shot with elevation. I love the shot on Hole #11. If you go for the basket, there is OB behind it. It is a great risk vs. reward hole. I would have to say that I particularly liked the 15th hole. It is a downhill shot that doglegs to the left. You can see the basket along a straight line but have to carry over a large expanse of young pines. There is an awesome concrete stairway to allow you to make it down the hill without slipping in the classic NC red clay. Beautiful and fun course to play. It will only get better with age.
