Welcome to Delaware…Ohio!

That’s right folks, the 2015 United States Women’s Disc Golf Championships (USWDGC) takes place in none other than Delaware, OH. Or, as the locals refer to it, “Mid-Ohio”. Regardless of what you call it, this area is home to some amazing disc golf courses, two of which are being played by the USWDGC field this weekend.

Gordon Holton Memorial DGC

The featured course for the weekend, Gordon Holton, will provide an abundance of challenges for women of all skill levels. The course consists of 18 permanent holes and an additional seven temporary holes that combined make for a dangerous but manageable mixture of every type of throw in disc golf. The landscape of the course, despite having a few long longer holes, doesn't accommodate big arm players unless they can follow their distance drives with extremely precise approaches.

Gordon Holton will be played once for Round 1 tomorrow and one more time for the final round on Sunday (Round 4). Depending on which division you’re following along with, the layout being played can be very different. The course par ranges from 58 to 88 based on which division and which layout the women are up against.

The Player’s Course @ Alum Creek Park

Alum Creek is one of those courses that you wish you could play every single day. It’s the perfect course for a quick round after a long day of work from the shorts, and a challenging course for a tag round between you and your friends playing from the longs. Much like Gordon Holton, the course has a mixture of tight wooded holes combined with water hazards, OB, and mandos that make you re-think your initial plan as you walk up to the tee.

Alum Creek Park will be played twice on Saturday, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. It’s a one day opportunity to make or break your position going into the final round on Sunday morning.

History

The 2015 USWDGC Players Guide does a great job of explaining a bit of the history behind the event.

"Starting out of Rock Hill, SC for the first three years, the United States Women’s Disc Golf Championships was then taken over by Bill “Old Man” and Mary Ann “Mom” Wallis. Making the USWDGC what it is today, Old Man and Mom ran the tournament for six years out of Peoria, IL. This event, now awarded through a bidding process each year, has become the premier event for women in the sport. We’re excited and honored to have the Wallis family join our team this year along with the PDGA as your hosts for 2015!"

Coverage

With just 72 women competing in the event, we’ll be providing hole-by-hole scoring for each and every player on pdgalive.com. When and where the volunteers are available for true live scoring is still up in the air, but we’ll make sure to update the scores for every player in every division for every hole they play by the end of the day.

Prodigy Disc will be providing daily video coverage of the Open Women’s lead card and we’ll be providing updates, pictures, and videos throughout the weekend on pdgalive.com, with tweets coming in via @pdgalive on Twitter and @pdga on Instagram.
