145 players tee off today in the United States Amateur Disc Golf Championship


The premier amateur tournament in all of disc golf kicks off this morning in Milford, Michigan as a full field of 145 players compete on the world famous Toboggan course at Kensington Metro Park for the title of 2009 United States Amateur Disc Golf Champion. The excitement and anticipation were high last night at the players dinner and meeting which kicked off the festivities. Master of ceremonies, Mark Ellis addressed the players with words of encouragement before introducing and thanking all of the wonderful volunteer staff members who have gathered here from all over the state of Michigan and beyond.

Disc Golf Hall of famer Jim Kenner, who designed the ultra challenging par 62 layout, was also recognized for Discraft's ongoing contributions in the establishing and sponsoring the event. Tournament Director Philip Shelton explained the format and fielded questions from the players before posting the first days tee times.

Following the players meeting, the competitors gathered outside of the banquest facility for Mark Ellis's famed Lizard Games, which entails all players throwing mini's simultaneously at different targets designated by Mark in an attempt to win prizes. Marks jovial nature and creativity in coming up with each challenge resulted in a great time had by all.
