Angela Tschiggfrie was down one stroke to Valarie Jenkins and one ahead of 'Burl' going into the Final 9 at the University of Alabama at Huntsville DGC. Elaine King rounded out the final four and the women put on a clinic for the gallery in Huntsville.

Angela lost an early stroke to Jenkins on the first hole but rallied to a two stroke lead with two holes to go. Hole 17 is the signature hole at UAH featuring OB street on the left and a 385 foot shot to clear an OB lake to the pin. Angela threw safely in the middle of the fairway to secure a sure three and force Valarie to risk it all on the all or nothing water shot. Valarie thrilled the gallery with an absolute perfect bomb over the water, settling 15 feet past the hole. Jenkins birdied and Tschiggfrie made par reducing the deficit to one.

Tschiggfrie and Jenkins had similar drives on the final hole with Tschiggfrie playing the approach first. Angela's approach was parked near the pin, again forcing the hand of Jenkins. Valarie made a valiant attempt at a rare two on hole 18 to force a sudden death playoff, but her shot flew by right and out of bounds, sealing Tschiggfrie's victory, netting a cool $2500.00 first place pay-day and a spot in the USDGC.

Old Man, Mom & Wilbur, Co-Directors of women's nationals for the previous six years were in attendance and witnessed the event that they nurtured, continue to evolve. Nothing but compliments was heard from the participants, who were the recipients of the largest purse in women's disc golf history.

The championship atmosphere, the payout, the amenities & extras were enjoyed by all. One comment from Melinda Umphenour summed up the event: "You all put the 'Rock' back in Rocket City!
