PDGA Executive Director Resigns After a Decade of Service

Wednesday, November 30, 2016 - 12:47

The PDGA Board of Directors regretfully announces that it has accepted the resignation of Brian Graham #5861 as Executive Director of the Professional Disc Golf Association, effective December 31, 2016.

Since 2007, Brian has played a critical role in the development and success of the sport and the organization, and while we will miss his leadership, we wish him the best of luck in his new position as Director of Corporate Events for Morris Communications Company. On behalf of the members, we thank Brian for 10 years of unprecedented record growth and dedicated service which has involved a number of significant organizational accomplishments under his direction, including, but not limited to:

  • Increase of total PDGA members from 31,570 in 2006 to 90,000+ in 2016 (+285%)
  • Increase of active PDGA members from 11,302 in 2006 to 36,000+ in 2016 (+318%)
  • Increase of PDGA sanctioned events from 732 in 2006 to 3,080+ in 2016 (+420%)
  • Conception and development of the International Disc Golf Center
  • Modernization of organizational business and financial practices
  • Expansion of office staff positions: Events Manager, Technology Director, Media Manager
  • Live streaming and regional cable television broadcasts of PDGA events
  • Development of PDGA Tour Trailer and event support programs
  • Expansion of international program and establishment of a PDGA Europe office

In his message to the board, Brian wrote, “It is with mixed emotions that I leave the PDGA to pursue new personal and business goals. I will be forever grateful to the board, staff, and members who supported the organization during my tenure, and to whom I give full credit for the phenomenal growth of our sport over the past decade. Given the current state of disc golf and the PDGA, I am confident that a new executive director, with the support of the members, will continue our fantastic momentum and lead our association to even greater levels of success in the future.”

The search to identify and hire a new executive director is currently underway by an appointed committee of members under the direction of Dan “Stork” Roddick, #003. Brian Graham will assist the PDGA throughout the process to ensure a smooth transition. During this period, it is our priority to find the best individual to lead, while still maintaining a stable and effective organization. We will share the job announcement soon and ask members for their help in identifying candidates who can help PDGA continue along our successful trajectory.

Was a pleasure working with you during the 4th Deaf national as well as the 15th Deaf national championship. Finding allies that are sensitive to a linguistic and cultural minority is a challenge and pdga has opened doors for the Deaf disc golfers. Thanks for all you have done. Look forward to seeing what you will do. -Kent Schafer #22662
