Major Announcement
2027 European Open, USWDGC and 2028 Major locations announced

Ale Disc Golf Center in Sweden will host the 2027 European Open.
PDGA Major Events are the premier competitions for disc golf each year, featuring the world’s best disc golfers competing for Major titles in multiple skill, age, and gender-based divisions. These PDGA marquee events offer any city, town, or country the chance to host an international sporting event in their community, to draw interest and attention to the location, and to generate a significant economic impact for local businesses.
Hosting a PDGA Major is a challenging task, and interest was shown from only 15 involved local organizing committees (LOC), with small but competitive bids. Selecting these events was difficult, as excellent bid packages were submitted.
After much deliberation from the PDGA Bid Committee and the PDGA Staff, the Professional Disc Golf Association is pleased to announce the award of the following 2027 and 2028 PDGA Major events:
PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships
2028: Lynchburg and Bedford County, Virginia

In the summer of 2028, Pro Worlds is heading back to Virginia. The Professional Disc Golf World Championships will be hosted the city of Lynchburg and Bedford County region, which is quickly becoming a disc golf hot bed!
By now, these communities have become staples to our disc golf community, hosting prestigious events from the 2024 PDGA Pro World Championships, the Disc Golf Pro Tour Championships, and more. From six-time PDGA World Champion Paul McBeth designing one of the best wooded tracks we have, and a seasoned Major team led by Nate Heinold and his amazing staff and volunteers, the PDGA is ready to take on these courses and host what will be an incredible Pro World Championship. With the great support of the surrounding cities, and the foundation of Liberty College’s disc golf team, we have all the tools to make this World Championship something special once again. These parks are dedicated to our sport and doing everything we need to ensure that these events will be to the highest standard. These two communities of Bedford County and Lynchburg deserve a huge shout out for truly believing in our sport and we can’t thank the community for showing up enough to keep the fire going.
“After the success of hosting the 2024 PDGA Pro World Championships, we are thrilled to once again welcome the world back to the City of Lynchburg and Bedford region for the 2028 Pro Worlds, now alongside the 2028 PDGA Masters World Championships. Hosting more than 1,100 Masters competitors in addition to the sport’s top professionals is a tremendous honor and a powerful testament to our region’s championship-level courses, passionate disc golf community, and proven ability to deliver world-class events. We are proud to continue our partnership with the PDGA, Ledgestone, and our local organizers as Lynchburg and Bedford continue to emerge as two of the most dynamic and exciting disc golf destinations in the world.” — Marjette Glass Upshur , Director, Office of Economic Development & Tourism, City of Lynchburg, Virginia

Jackie has a strong team that’s shown proven to be able to run events at the highest level for years. PDGA European Open
2027: Ale Disc Golf Center, Sweden

When, among more than 17,000 disc golf courses worldwide, a Disc Golf Center ranks its Professional course #2 and its Amateur course #11 based on user ratings, something truly special is happening. Add to that a meticulous attention to detail that elevates the player experience, a location in Europe’s country with the highest number of PDGA members, and a vibrant regional disc golf scene—and the picture becomes clear.
Located in Nol, near Gothenburg (Sweden), Ale Disc Golf Center changed ownership in 2022. Since then, the team led by Erik Mellgren, Simon Terbrant Säfström, and Vincent Schaffler has done an outstanding job continuing to develop an already well-established venue, guided by a clear vision: to reach the highest level in elite tournament organization.
The “White” course - that will host the PDGA European Open - is the most demanding layout of the complex, requiring strength and precision in all areas of the game. Measuring approximately 2,900 m for MPO and 2,600 m for FPO, it offers an almost perfect balance of semi-open fairways, distance-demanding par 5s, well-protected baskets, and pure wooded holes.
Scenery is another of Ale’s great strengths. Rolling hills blend with rocky sections, flowing water, immaculately maintained fairways, and handcrafted wooden and stone details—making every round not just a sporting challenge, but a memorable experience.
Beyond competition, the complex provides exceptional amenities: spacious common areas, a well-stocked pro shop, lounge spaces, VIP camping, terraces overlooking the action, food services, and two additional courses—Yellow (Amateur) and Blue (Beginner)—ensuring that Ale Disc Golf Center truly offers something for everyone.
"Ale Disc Golf Center was founded with a clear ambition: to become an international benchmark facility for players discovering the sport, passionate amateurs, and, of course, the world’s elite. Our courses, facilities, pro shop, and amenities have all evolved hand in hand with the level of the competitions we have hosted — from national events to elite tournaments on the Disc Golf Pro Tour, and, in 2027, reaching the pinnacle of the sport with a PDGA Major. Being the home of the European Open further strengthens our commitment to honoring and continuing the legacy of one of disc golf’s most historic events. As winter fades and snow gives way to summer, we look forward to warmer days — and to the dream of hosting the PDGA European Open 2027. We can’t wait to welcome you!" — Erik Mellgren, CEO Ale Disc Golf Center
PDGA United States Women's Disc Golf Championships
2027: Columbia, Missouri

The PDGA is no stranger to the beautiful land and courses this region has to offer. We have hosted the 2021 US Masters, a DGPT event, and most recently the 2025 PDGA Amateur Worlds Championship. Yes, we are heading back to Columbia, Missouri for the 2027 United States Women’s Disc Golf Championships. This was a tough decision as there was so much competition at the top. We have nothing but faith and trust that the women members of our sport will see that these courses and host will make this another memorable experience. We are excited to work with Adam Morison again as the TD and the city of Columbia and Jefferson City to host all of the women in the sport. We have nothing but great expectations for this event and we can’t wait to showcase the top athletes live for the world to see.
"We're excited to bring the top women in disc golf to mid-Missouri, especially to our signature course, Harmony Bends. After eventful conclusions in women's divisions at both the 2021 Tim Selinske US Masters Championships and the 2025 Amateur World Championships, we can't wait to see what happens at this course at our next PDGA Major." – Adam Morrison & Team
2028: Manitowoc, Wisconsin

In 2025, the PDGA hosted an incredible USWDGC on the shores of Lake Michigan and surrounding courses of Manitowoc. It was received well with all the women who attended, and many wanted to come back. After reviewing the bids, this team came out on top. The host team was able to ride the momentum of the 2025 USWDGC to secure a plot of beautiful land at the nearby Ariens Nordic Center. This will be a Cale Leiviska design along with the host team to add another premier course to this region. We are excited to bring all the women of disc golf back to this thriving and hospitable community that opened their doors in 2025.
"Being chosen to host this event is an incredible honor, which wouldn't be possible without the amazing volunteers that we have here in Wisconsin. Introducing a new venue highlights our commitment to making Wisconsin a premier destination for disc golf. We are excited to partner with the PDGA to deliver another unforgettable experience for the women of disc golf. PDGA Tim Selinske United States Masters Disc Golf Championships
2028: Northwest Arkansas

The PDGA did not receive a bid for this event. Rather than slow down the planning, we decided to take this one on ourselves! This event will be led by the Major Events team, and Matt Loyd. Matt is one of the most well-known TDs in the region with almost 200 PDGA events as a TD and he’s helped work alongside many Majors even before his time with the PDGA and Dynamic Disc. Matt has been a key player in the DGPT Jonesboro Open for years as well and we are excited to showcase Northwest Arkansas, their courses, and amenities. We really think this is going to be a great event and can’t wait to see who comes out on top.
This region has not hosted a PDGA Major, but is centrally located with some great courses for Masters players. We have some excited plans for this event, and look forward to planning early to give our members the best experience.
"We are honored to be able to host the PDGA Tim Selinske United States Masters Disc Golf Championships. It's been a dream of mine to showcase the Northwest Arkansas area on a major stage and we couldn't be more excited! Our booming Northwest Arkansas community comprised of Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers and Bentonville (amongst smaller towns) have all the big city fun with a small-town feel. Thank you to the Fayetteville Disc Golf Association, Disc Golf Of the Ozarks, Birdie Bogey Bros, Northwest Arkansas Ladies League and the Western Arkansas Flying Disc Association for helping to build a disc golf community where we can host a major. We look forward to showcasing some Ozark Mountain disc golf!" — Matt Loyd #40462
