Saturday, July 16, 2022 - 09:26

Five new PDGA World Champions were crowned on Friday in Illinois, and each join an elite club in doing so.

From repeat champions to new faces, these five battled four rounds of disc golf throughout the Peoria area, including rain on the final day, and will forever be known as PDGA World Champions.

Here’s a look at Friday’s action from the 2022 PDGA Masters & Juniors Disc Golf World Championships:

FP50 — Nova Politte

Politte’s road to back-to-back World Championships came down the wire against a formidable competitor in Des Reading.

The lead changed early and often in the final round before back-to-back birdies from Politte coming down the stretch sealed her second-straight FP50 World Championship.

MP80 — Pete May

It’s been quite the week Georgia’s Pete May with his induction into the Disc Golf Hall of Fame and then, later in the week, his 11th PDGA World Championship. This is the seventh professional title for May, who also had four amateur crowns.

But it didn’t come easy.

Jack Gilmore closed the gap to a few strokes in the final round but May finished strong and will head to his next adventure his incredible and deserved week.

Carlos Rigby finished third.

FA70 — Patti Adams

Two players who joined the PDGA in 2020 played the game throughout the week and it was Patti Adams who took down the title in FA70.

Adams, from North Carolina, now has nine wins in 24 events.

Nellie Vallarta-Ast, who served as host to the record-setting USWDGC two weeks ago in Madison, Wisconsin, finished second.
