Madisonville Open

The PDGA’s only A-tier last weekend was a hot success, with high heat indexes and smoking rounds by Tyler Horn of Columbus, Ohio who edged out Devan Owens of Owasso, Oklahoma on the highly rated Madisonville City Park Disc Golf Course.  Devan was able to cut the lead to three strokes after setting the course record of 61 on the 24 hole layout in the final round, but Tyler continued his long accurate drives and exceptional putting going in the final 9 to take the PDGA SuperTour win and the $900 paycheck.

With six extra holes per round, the long rounds were made comfortable with complimentary drink carts manned by city employees and an air conditioned club house for breaks between rounds.  A fat player's package and lunch served brought the 84 amateurs that helped fill up the event early, and they were lead by Joey Lutz of Chattanooga, Tennessee who blew away the field with a 1004-rated final round in the Advanced Division.

The event presented by Hopkins County Tourism is expected to be a continued tour favorite, as players from 10 states including California, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Alabama joined the regional players to fill up the hotels and restaurants to the excitement of the sponsors.  Even local law enforcement was excited with the many out-of-town guests, as a player stopped for speeding to the tournament was told good luck after stating he was rushing to the morning tee time!
