A bit of good news for a scorching Friday afternoon:

The location is confirmed. The contract is signed. The 36th Annual Waterloo Disc Golf Classic, Oct 19-20, will be held at Hancock Golf Course in Austin! Hancock is the small, beautiful 9-hole ball golf course located at E. 41st and Red River, and was the very first golf course in Austin. It is just a mile or two north of our beloved Waterloo Park, and the same creek runs through it that runs through Waterloo (Waller Creek).

Austins original disc golf tournament meets Austins original ball golf course. Its going to be awesome!

Its Father Dave McC-Note Time!

Now that we know the 36th Waterloo DG Classic will be at the Hancock Golf Course, it is the perfect time to save your spot in this wonderful tournament. Regular registration likely wont open up for at least another month, maybe more, and the event is expected to fill up quickly once it does. Dont take a chance on missing out, take the Father Dave McC-Note Challenge now.

The way it works is this: send the Waterloo Club a check or money order for $100 now. Your spot in the tournament is guaranteed. When fees for the different divisions are set, we will deduct from your $100:

your entry fee
ace pot
ring-of-fire
non-active pdga fee (if applicable)

All the money left goes directly to the charity. Over the past few years, we have averaged between 45 50 McC-Noters, which has added about $1,500 each year to the total charitable donation!

To clarify something that has come up occasionally: this money saves your spot, not a spot. Once the tournament fills up and there is a waitlist, if you have to cancel you cant just give your spot to someone else. As with any cancellation, the spot goes to the next person on the waitlist. If you do have to cancel, you will receive a refund of everything except what would have gone to the charity (and that money will still be added to the donation).

Dont wait too long and end up missing out on this wonderful event. Send in your money now and you wont have to worry about it filling up without you.

Send your check or money order, payable to WDGC, to:

WDGC
PO Box 33531
Austin, TX 78764

Please include your full name, email and/or phone number, division, and pdga number (if you have one).

Father Dave McC-Note registration for this years tournament started last October at the 35th Waterloo. Three people signed up that weekend, and one more has sent it in since then. Already confirmed for this years 36th Waterloo are:

Larry Kruse
Jan Baumgardner
Stevo Barnes
Kirk Lavallee

Thanks,

Dear Sponsor,

The Waterloo Disc Golf Club is proud to announce that it is hosting the 36th Annual Waterloo Disc Golf Classic in Austin, TX on October 18-20, 2013. This historic disc golf tournament is the longest running tournament in the Southwestern U.S. and one of the oldest in the country. To make it even more special, this years event will be held at the historic Hancock Golf Course, the very first ball golf course in Austin. Austins first disc golf event meets Austins first ball golf course, it is going to be a fantastic weekend! The 36th Waterloo Disc Golf Classic will again benefit the Austin Ronald McDonald House (RMH).

The RMH is a wonderful non-profit, charitable organization that provides a home away from home for families with critically ill children undergoing treatment at area hospitals. This allows parents the chance to be close to their children when they are needed most.

Thanks to the support of our great sponsors, we have donated more than $80,000 in cash and supplies to RMH over the last fifteen years. The goal for 2013 is to raise $7,000. Wont you please help by being a sponsor of this wonderful tournament? Sponsorship can be in the form of cash, merchandise, or a combination of the two.

For a sponsorship of $200 or more: your logo or name on the back of the official tournament shirt, plus on a tee-box sign. This sign will be seen by all of the competitors each time that they play the course. Your logo/name will also be added to the Sponsor List that will be displayed at the course and included in the program distributed to all the players and spectators.

For $100 - $199: your name on a tee-box sign and on the Sponsor List.

For up to $99: your name on the Sponsor List.

Please mail all sponsorship to Waterloo Disc Golf Club, PO Box 33531 Austin, TX, 78764 (checks payable to WDGC). If you wish, you may make your check payable directly to Austin Ronald McDonald House in order to get the tax benefits of a charitable donation. For more information, please contact Gordon Maxim-Kelley at [email protected] or [email protected], or call the Waterloo Club cell phone 512-994-9508.
Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Gordon Maxim-Kelley

Final total raised at the 36th Waterloo Fundraiser #2 at Searight on Saturday was $472! Thank you to everyone who came out and took part. Big thanks to the staff! Glenn Schleicher and Meteor Mike Schulgen both worked hard all the long, hot day (and me too). Troy Herman, Aaron Stair, Stevo Barnes, Tommy Schulgen, and others also helped, and Jeremiah Duke loaned us his grill so we were able to cook some food for the players and staff. And the Downs family were all super ambassadors, helping to spread the love of our sport to new folks.

Raffle Results and scores coming soon.

Thanks again, and we'll see you in 3 weeks (Sep 21st) at fundraiser #3, out at Moody's wonderful ranch in Red Rock.

Waterloo is FULL! It only took around 7 - 8 days to fill once registration opened up.

We hope to have the player's list posted on the pdga site soon, as well as posted on Facebook and listed here. Here is the link (though right now no info is up) http://www.pdga.com/tournament_results/106048

The tournament is full and the waitlist is going strong. I have sent out all of the confirmation for the people who made it in except for a few that I don't have a current email address for. If you have entered but not gotten a confirmation please contact me and let me know.

If you'd like to be added to the waitlist, just let me know. There are many ways you can do this: send an email to me at [email protected] or to the club at [email protected]; send me a PM through the PDGA DISCussion Board or the Waterloo Club website; send me a message through Facebook or post on the tournaments Event page on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/events/385097398262256/); or call the club cell phone (512) 994-9508 and leave a message if I dont answer.

If someone withdraws, we will contact the next person on the waitlist.

I just need your name and contact info (email and/or phone number). It can help to know your division, but that won't affect whether or not you get in. We don't have set numbers of people in a division, so... for example: it won't help to be willing to play pro when you normally play advanced. If there is a spot for you, we'll get you in regardless of your division.

If you clear the waitlist before the tournament gets here, I'll contact you about it. Otherwise, the only thing you have to do is be there Saturday morning at tourney HQ when check-in closes at 8:30 am. Tournament HQ will be near the Pro Shop, the entrance is on E. 41st Street, close to Red River. If anyone drops out at the last minute or hasn't checked in, we'll drop them and fill their spot with someone from the waitlist.

If you are on the waitlist, don't despair. Even if you are far down on the list, there is always hope. At least twice in the last few years, everyone on the list who chose to show up Saturday morning actually made it in. However, to be fair in expectations, we have had other years where not many folks (or none) have cancelled and so not many on the waitlist made it in.

Thanks!

Gordon Maxim-Kelley
Tournament Director

Big news! HUGE NEWS!!!

The 26 people on the waitlist for the 36th Annual Waterloo Disc Golf Classic at Hancock Golf Course on Oct 19-20, 2013

are ALL in the tournament!

We have worked out an agreement with the city and the Hancock Golf Course to let us have two full 18-hole courses out at Hancock for the whole weekend.

This means the event maximum has just doubled to 180 players. Get ready for the biggest and best Waterloo ever!

If you WERE on the waitlist and have already paid, you will be receiving a confirmation email soon.

If you WERE on the waitlist but havent yet paid, you need to send in your entry form and money as soon as possible (your spot will be held for a little while to give you time to get your money sent in, but it wont be held indefinitely; you still need to pay within the next week or so).

If you are wanting to play but didnt get signed up in time and didnt get on the waitlist, NOW is your chance. Send in your entry form and money right away to get your spot in what will be an awesome Waterloo experience.

We have top-notch course designers Mike Olse and Joel Kelly planning the two Waterloo-Style courses. There will be the Olse Course and the Kelly Course, and everyone will get to play each course twice during the tournament. Thanks Mike and Joel!

You can still be a Father Dave McC-Note Challenger even though registration is now open. It no longer has the advantage of saving your spot, but you'll still receive a nice "Father Dave" goodie, be listed in the program and online, help us out in our fundraising, plus we will have some CTPs during the event that will be for Father Dave McC-Note Challengers only. Just send $100 with your entry form and that will cover all of your fees except for doubles.

The 36th Waterloo DG Classic is just around the corner, Oct 18-20, 2013.

As you probably know, we have doubled the size of the tournament from 90 players to 180, and will have 2 full courses instead of just 1. Reserving just part of Hancock Golf Course from just Friday afternoon through Sunday was already costing us a lot (in the range of a few thousand dollars), which is why we ran some fundraiser events and have made a big push for sponsorship.

Now that we are reserving the whole course for three full days, the cost has gone up a lot more.

So we need your help getting more sponsorship! If you can sponsor, with either cash or merchandise, it would be a big help. And if you can take our sponsor letter around to other people and businesses, it would be a HUGE help. Asking for sponsorship can be daunting for some, but remember that the worst thing that can happen is they say no.

We have to pay a lot of money to have the tournament at Hancock. We want to give good players packages to all the competitors. We want to do cool trophies. We want to take care of our hardworking staff (and give them players packages too). We want to do all this without taking more money out of the players entry fees. And finally, we want to raise a LOT of money for the Austin Ronald McDonald House. But to accomplish our goals, we need more sponsorship.

We still have time to get $200+ sponsors on the t-shirt, but not lots of time; wed need their commitment by the middle of next week.

Even after next week, we can still get sponsors on tee signs, in the program, and online. And we will gratefully accept sponsorship at all levels, $10 - $10,000 :)

Please help us with what is going to be the biggest and best Waterloo Disc Golf Classic ever.

If you can sponsor, or you get any sponsors, or you have any questions, just contact me at [email protected], [email protected], or 512-994-9508.

Thanks, and Waterlooooooooo!!!

Gordon Maxim-Kelley
Tournament Director

p.s. sponsorship can be dropped off at Zilker during League on Thursday nights; it can be brought to the tournament that weekend; or contact me and we can work out some kind of pickup.

Some important times and information for Waterloo this weekend.

CARPOOL! CARPOOL!! CARPOOL!!!

We only have about 20 spots left in the tournament, and that will be reduced by whatever is in the PO Box today and tomorrow entries that were mailed over the weekend.

Also, as it gets close to full, we may have situations where we have room in some divisions but not others. Right now, everything is open, but it could get more limited as we fill up.

FINAL CHANCE FOR PRE-REGISTRATION:
At this late date, there are only 2 ways to get pre-registered by Wednesday (the end of pre-registration).

1) Fedex/UPS your entry information and payment TODAY for NEXT DAY DELIVERY so that it arrives to me on Wednesday. Fedex/UPS wont deliver to PO Boxes but if you contact me today I will give you my work address and you can send it to me there. Replying to this email ([email protected]) and calling the club cell phone (512-994-9508) are the best ways to contact me until early this evening. After about 6:30 pm, dont try to email (as I wont see it until wed.morning), just call the phone number.

2) one final, last minute in person opportunity has arisen: Wednesday evening, 7 8 pm (and maybe a bit later), we will be having our staff work night at Mark McCrimmons office downtown: 704 W 9th St, Austin, TX 78701.

You can bring it to me there (or have a friend bring it for you), but you may have to pitch in some while you are there 

However, please note that waiting until Wednesday night to bring it puts you in line behind people who have already mailed it this past weekend, and those who will be overnighting it today.

If you cant overnight it today or come by in person tomorrow evening, then the final chance to register for the tournament is Friday at the course, starting at 11 am (see below).

FRIDAY:

CARPOOL! CARPOOL!! CARPOOL!!!

Late Registration and Check-In begins at 11 am.
IF there are still spots available, you can sign up starting at 11 am. If there are not, we can put you on the waitlist and youll need to be at HQ Saturday morning at 8:30 am sharp to see if you cleared the waitlist.

If you are already pre-registered, please check-in between 11 am and 7 pm. The more players we can check-in on Friday, the better Saturday morning will go. To encourage early check-in, we will have an extra players pack goodie for everyone who checks-in on Friday. ALL singles players must check-in on Friday between 11 am 7pm OR on Saturday morning between 7:30 8:30 am.

Doubles will start when we get both courses completely up and confirmed and are ready to start signing teams up. We hope this will be as early as 10 am, but it could be a bit later, hopefully 11 am at the very latest.

Entry fee is $13 per person (which includes $5 in greens fee for the round, and $1 to the fundraising). There is an option $2 per person ace pot. Ace pot will be split evenly among all aces. If no aces, the money goes to the fundraising.

Most teams just pay when they show up (the pre-payment we put on the form is only for convenience). The main thing is being there early enough to play. The closer it gets to 4:30 5:00 pm, the less chance there is of playing (even if a team has pre-paid) because we have to stop teeing teams off about 4:30 5:00 so that they can finish before dark. That means even if you show up before the cutoff time but there are a bunch of other teams ahead of you waiting to tee off, you may not be able to play because you wouldnt be able to start in time.

We will have both courses available for double competition, but with one small exception. All 18 holes of the Kelly Course will be playable in doubles, but only 16 holes of the Olse Course will be playable (due to the use later in the day of the small soccer/football field in the far NE corner of the property).

Both the competition and the ace pots during doubles will be course specific. So all the pro teams that play the Olse Course are competing against the other pro teams that play the Olse Course. All the ace pot entries for the Olse Course are separate from the ace pot entries of the Kelly Course.

We will have all the usual divisions for doubles: rec, int, adv, pro, plus all the master ones; and well have a mixed division (mixed division pays out in merchandise). Sign up where you want to play. If we only have 1 team in a division, well have to switch it over to another. Example: if we only have 1 Rec team the whole day, we would have to move them into Intermediate when doing the results.

You can play one course, you can play both, you can play one course more than once.
* If you play the same course more than once and you dont switch partners, then only your best score counts (just like many of the flex-start minis around town).
* If you play the same course more than once and you switch partners, then you also have to switch divisions.
*If you play one course and then later play the other, you can keep the same partner and the same division.

Like a golf course, the $5 greens fees are per round (not for the whole day); so it is $13 per person each time you play doubles.

Results will be posted as soon as possible on Saturday (probably early afternoon). Awards for doubles can be picked up after that or anytime on Sunday the 17th. Leave contact info when signing up if you wont be around the rest of the weekend. Show up early for the best chance to play, dont wait until late in the afternoon and take the risk of being turned away. Cards will be limited to 2 teams to keep things flowing smoothly.

SATURDAY:

CARPOOL! CARPOOL!! CARPOOL!!!

Late Registration and Check-In is from 7:30 8:30 am.

If you did not check-in on Friday, you HAVE to check in on Saturday morning between 7:30 am 8:30 am. Anyone not checked in by 8:30 am on Saturday will be dropped from the tournament and the spot will be filled by someone on the waitlist. The tournament is too popular, too fun, and usually has too big a waitlist to let a spot go unclaimed. If you are on the waitlist, you must be at tourney HQ at 8:30 am on Saturday. If your name is called and you arent there, we go to the next person on the list.

Please try to check in on Friday, as it will make Saturday morning go much more smoothly if we dont have as many people to run through the process.

Everyone playing the main tournament will receive a players package (but if you check-in on Friday, you get an extra goodie).

Players Meeting starts at 9:00 am. You absolutely need to be there for the meeting and you need to pay close attention. With 180 people and 2 courses, there will be a lot to cover, and confusion could cost you a lot of strokes if you end up on the wrong course or on the wrong hole!

We will start Round 1 just after the meeting, hopefully by 9:45 am.

All the rest of the times for the day will be TBA: 1 hour for lunch, Juniors 1st round, Ring of Fire, Round 2, close out of Saturdays silent auction

SUNDAY:

CARPOOL! CARPOOL!! CARPOOL!!!

Round 3 tees off at 8:30 am. There is no meeting, you must be on your designated hole and ready to play by 8:30 am. Give yourself plenty of time to park, walk in, find your hole assignment, and get out on the course.

All the rest of the times for the day will be TBA: 1 hour for lunch, Juniors 2nd round, Tayloe Toe Throw, Round 4, close out of Sundays silent auction, awards

The word of the year for parking at Waterloo is, you guessed it CARPOOL!!!

Parking is going to be very tight at Hancock Golf Course. They dont have much to begin with, plus we will have a LOT of people coming to the course.

Expect to have to park in the neighborhood and walk to the course. The more people who carpool, the better for everyone!

It will be worst on Friday, Oct 18th. Not only will there be a lot of players for doubles, but the Rec Center on sight is having their Fall Festival that day and expecting a lot of people for that. If they get too many, those folks will also be competing for parking in the neighborhood.

Saturday morning will be rough too as the rec center is open and has programs running.

There will be NO disc golf parking inside Hancock all day on Friday and on Saturday morning (except for a few staff vehicles).

It should be a bit better Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday because the rec center will be closed at those times, so there will be some spots available inside the course.

But still, there just isnt much parking onsite to begin with on Sat. afternoon and Sunday, so most people will still have to park and walk.

CARPOOL!!! And please help spread the word this week. We need everyone to be aware of the issue and to ride together as much as possible.

ALSO: please do not litter by your car or on your way to/from the course. If you are parked in front of, or across the street from, someones home, please dont hang out being loud or drunk/toasted by your car.

Be respectful! Most of this area is a neighborhood not some business district downtown like at Waterloo Park.

With so much parking being done in the neighborhoods, we need to make sure we dont give the neighbors reasons to fight against us ever coming back to Hancock.

Thanks for reading all the way through this LONG, LONG message! This is going to be an incredible Waterloo DG Classic, and we are glad so many people are going to be a part of it!!!

Some 36th Waterloo Items:

There is a lot more to come, but I wanted to get a start on these. My priorities are:
1) sending out / posting results (raffle/CTPs/unclaimed auction items/doubles/singles) and addressing how to pick up unclaimed items/winnings
2) finishing up the results of singles and getting them to the PDGA this week because they have a ratings update coming soon and I want to get these scores and info submitted before then
3) answering questions and addressing comments about this specific event
4) thanking all our great sponsors and staff
5) responding to ALL the wonderful comments that everyone has been emailing and posting (but I’ll start right now with a big, general, THANKS!!! :D )
6) responding to other issues regarding Waterloo Disc Golf Classics in general, both past, present, and future

Thank you for your patience!
Gordon

* The Raffle List is copied below. If you won something but didn’t pick it up on Sunday, let me know and we’ll figure out a way to get it to you.

* The Doubles Results File is copied below the Raffle List. If you won something but didn’t pick it up on Sunday, let me know. The 3 basic options we have at this point are: 1) give us an idea of what you’d like and we’ll make up a package for you; 2) we can give you Disc Nation Bucks and you can go the the Disc Nation store and pick out whatever you want; 3) hold on until Ice Bowl in early February and come pick out what you want from our inventory (unfortunately, that is the next major event we’ll be having where we have a lot of our merchandise on hand).

We had 150 teams play Doubles on Friday, WOW!!! 97 teams on the Kelly Course (SE) and 53 teams on the Olse Course (NW – which only had 16 holes available for play on Friday). Sorry, but there are a LOT of mis-spelled names at this point!!!

Okay, I gotta head for home and some dinner. More either later tonight or tomorrow. Thanks Again, Gordon

The Singles scores have been re-uploaded, with some pdga numbers added and a few scores corrected (luckily nothing that affected payout). Please check them out and if you see any possible errors, please let us know as soon as possible. They have not yet been officially submitted to the PDGA with the TD Report, so there is still time to easily correct things.

Also, I have no idea if the ratings are correct as they have no info about the courses yet (other than that they are 18 holes ). We will get that information submitted with the TD Report, if not sooner.

Here is the link to the scores: http://www.pdga.com/tournament_results/106048/1024309267

Like the doubles prizes, if you won merchandise in singles but didnt pick it up on Sunday, let me know. The 3 basic options we have at this point are: 1) give us an idea of what youd like and well make up a package for you; 2) we can give you Disc Nation Bucks and you can go the the Disc Nation store and pick out whatever you want; 3) hold on until Ice Bowl in early February and come pick out what you want from our inventory (unfortunately, that is the next major event well be having where we have a lot of our merchandise on hand).

If you won cash but didn't pick it up, let me know your address and we'll mail you a check or figure out a way to get you the money.

Thanks!

The fundraising totals for this years 36th Waterloo Disc Golf Classic are in and they are fantastic! The clubs goal was to raise $8,000 at the tournament, with most of this going to our wonderful charity, the Austin Ronald McDonald House, and a much smaller amount of money that will either be donated to Austin Parks Foundation or held by the club for use on disc golf projects right here in the Austin area.

We SHATTERED that goal with a total raised of $10,750!!!

$8,000 will be donated to Austin Ronald McDonald House

$2,750 will be used for disc golf projects (with much of that likely to be spent on the big Zilker project coming up early next year more info coming soon about that project)

36 players in Masters divisions (10 pro and 26 amateur)

54 in Grandmaster divisions (20 pro and 34 amateur; including 4 amateur Grandmaster women)

13 in Senior Grandmaster division (all amateur)

So 103 players out of 176 total competing in age 40 & up divisions, plus a number of other players eligible to play there but chose instead to play Open, Advanced, Intermediate, and/or Rec.

And not to leave too much of an older impression, we also had several kids playing the event in the Rec and Intermediate divisions, plus one Junior Girl played (about age 7 I believe?)

We had one 3-generational family play again this year: the Schroeders! Robert Sr., sons Robbie and Daniel, and Kayla (Robbies daughter).

Also several Parent-Child combinations: Alex Downs and two of his sons, Alex Jr. and Gabriel; Mike & Ty Chesnut; Bobby & Cody Callender; Dale Gibbins played and staffed while daughter Deja Gibbins staffed; Jeff & Shannon Nintzel, with father Jerry Davis; Aaron & Del Stair; Lynn & Austin McNabb (Im assuming on this one :) ); Ken & Wendy Shepperd (though Wendy had to drop out at the last minute); Andi & Don Young (though both had to drop out at the last minute); Mike & Tommy Schulgen staffed.

And lots of couples: Jay & Des Reading; Jeff & Patti Cooper; John & Laura Hovey; Jimbob & Laura Karshis; Scott & Melissa Stein; Kyle & David Snyder; Bradley Williams and Stephanie Vincent; Roger Allen played and staffed and Stephanie Allen staffed; Ed Coffey played and Laura Coffey staffed; Jerry & Jeannie Lively staffed; Michelle Henderson & Joseph Thompson staffed.

Plus brothers John & Jose Falcon; Stevo Barnes and brother-in-law (I think?) Chris Coleman; and brothers Blair & Blake Nicholson (though Blake had to drop out at the last minute).

Waterloo is always a HUGE Disc Golf Family Affair, and never more so than this year!!!

Speaking of which, we were very glad to hear that Kayla Schroeder, who had to leave the tournament with what looked to be a serious injury, did in fact turn out to be okay. The clubs best wishes go out to her and the entire Schroeder family!

Thanks again to everyone who was a part of this spectacular tournament! Well do it all again next year. Waterloooooooooooooooooooooo
