No discussion because no one had started a thread yet. This forum isn't the hot spot it used to be.
Tee times are posted at usdgclive.com (http://www.usdgclive.com)
It appears that so far, Jeremy Koling is "hot" with a -3 through the first six holes. But that's with just 10 players having any scores reported at all.
DiscGolfPlanet.tv (http://discgolfplanet.tv/2012-united-states-disc-golf-championship) will be live around 10:15AM EDT with coverage from the tournament.

What's up with the Performance Flight? About a dozen scores were posted, then yoinked, now nothing is showing.

All scores are up at http://www.usdgclive.com/leaderboard/performance/
I'm guessing since they're not doing traditional scoring, uploading to the pdga site doesn't really work.

Pictures from the Wednesday night Ping Pong are posted at the PDGA Flickr pages. No surprise, Pete May schooled everyone and beat Paul Ulibarri in the finals.
Click on Media > Photos.
Pictures from Thursday and Friday competition will be available nightly. Uploads are slow so please be patient. I won't have time to upload Saturday Finals pictures until I get home.

I believe the Performance Flight scores will not be put on PDGA for the time being because the unofficial ratings will be incorrect. Everyone's official ratings in Open and Performance Flights will be based on the SSA generated only by Open Flight scores once the TD report is submitted to the PDGA in time for the Oct 23rd update.

Here's a question - in the performance flight, the current leader is a 963-rated player who was projected to shoot a 74. Yet the guy in 2nd-to-last is a 946-rated player who is projected to shoot a 62. How did these arbitrary projections come to be?

There were a few players who did not have enough rounds in their current rating to qualify for the Performance Flight minimums. However, they wer selected by their State Reps and wanted to play so they set their projected score much lower than what qualified players near their rating received.

Okay, that's interesting. I'm more okay with that than I am with them making OBs just slap-on-the-wrist practice throws.

This format can be slightly more not less punitive than regular OB. If you go OB on a drive this year, at best you can end up sitting two at the same point you would be if you followed normal OB and advanced down the fairway and marked where you went out, added a penalty and are also sitting two. You can easily end up sitting more than two on several holes at the USDGC if you can't land inbounds on your rethrow and have to try again maybe easing up and not trying to throw as far (I'm talking about you 888!)

It's great to be able to watch the live stream, however it's a nite mare trying to keep up with what is going on with the rest, and what the current scores are . updates throughout used to be updated every 6 holes. It is kind of depressing this year. Love the live streaming, just cant tell what scores are being posted throughout.

They are still updated here every 6 holes: http://www.usdgclive.com/leaderboard/open/
They had some technical difficulties some of the time yesterday that is hopefully fixed for today.

A little off topic but I was wondering why there were only 58 in the Open Flight? I thought it was 72 in each flight.

Apparently that's as many players who qualified decided to play. I'm pretty sure more than 72 players qualified. For example, it doesn't look like any Swedes entered this year.

That's a shame. They should have expanded Monday Qualifying to fill the field. I doubt they would have had any problem filling.

I'm curious why they got rid of stroke and distance? Was it to not hurt feelings?

Too punitive. It's a different game than regular disc golf when you're faced with T&D on almost every hole versus just 0 to 2 holes on most courses. If you had miles of OB rope and T&D rules on every NT and A-tier course, then it would make sense at the USDGC.

Those three 53s shot today by Schusterick, Meresmaa and Brinster unofficially rated at 1085 move into second place for the best rated rounds all-time on courses over 66 SSA just behind Josh Anthon's 53 officially rated 1088 in 2009 at the USDGC. It looks like official ratings for today's rounds might move up a point or two but not reach Josh's 1088.

It's been slow processing over 400 pictures tonight after dinner and planning for Saturday, it's about 11 pm and would take hours to upload to Flickr. Probably going to be after I get home before any more are available online, except for some that may be in an web story.
Sorry
Select pictures from Friday and Saturday are now at Media > Photos> Collections > 2012 USDGC

Absolutely they should have opened the Monday qualifier to fill the field. This is why it is important to hold players accountable. Your money/registration is on time, or your spot goes to someone else.

The hole-by-hole stats will help once available. But we already know that the SSA from using buncr everywhere this year is about the same as 2008 and 2009 when buncr was first used but several holes had throw & distance (T&D) penalties. That would indicate buncr this year was equal to T&D then and T&D is more punitive than normal OB.
Here's a good example on the top card yesterday. Nikko teed with a roller on #8 that went OB, then went with a power anny drive that burned OB after hitting the ground. Then he ripped a line drive down the center that barely stayed inbounds. With regular OB rule, he would have progressed down the fairway lying 2 after his tee shot in about the same spot he was lying 3 yesterday with the buncr rule.
With regular OB versus buncr, buncr is going to increase scores a bit when the places players go OB is near the end of the flight like holes 3, 5 (first two throws) & 8 because they can't escape executing the shot until it lands inbounds and it may take more than one more try. Regular OB may be a bit more punitive if the OB is near the start of the flight path like 10 & 13 although the big arms that try the direct route on 10 can end up OB after crossing some IB near the pin and would get to move forward.

Indeed. Let the numbers do the talking. Everything else is just conjecture.

No conjecture on the overall SSAs. Those are as factual as we can get. One thing people might not realize is that there are nine players with ratings over 1035 this year versus only one in 2009. This is quite a few more players who can accurately throw over 400 to eagle 10 & 12 for example. Their scores make it look like the course is playing easier than before the throw & distance penalties of 2010. But the average scores of the lower rated players are falling in the same range keeping the SSAs within one shot over the years before 2010.

The indisputable fact remains that you cannot compare two rounds of disc golf played by different rules.
