The DB 5
Or the Discatcher Sport
Thanks in advance

M-14: Lightest, least expensive
DB-5: Most expensive, catches best but less portable
Discatcher Sport: Maybe best value depending on your criteria

if portability is needed i would go with the discatcher sport.
chuck's assessments are accurate imo.

for ultimate portability I love the fold up / netted version from innova. I take it more places with me because it sets up in no time at all with very little space. I do think that they catch more than they should (ie "am" side putts that stick more than a chained basket do).

I'm not too worried about weight as much as something that will last a while and that I can use for tournaments as a spare if I have to. I hate the cloth baskets.
I like the DB 5 except for its deep catcher and its pretty heavy but I know it'll last a while and I can add inner chains. But its a bear to lug around.
How flimsy are the DiscCatcher Sport and the M 14?

Try the DGA mach lite the best portable basket with soft sides. Very close to a normal basket and it's pdga approved.

imo the "soft" baskets all suck, i putt too hard for them. the dc sport is not flimsy at all (not heavy enough for permanent install but not flimsy)

Of he original three, the DB-5 is the only one I feel is heavy enough to mix with other baskets in tournament play.
I don't think I've seen the DGA Mach lite basket.
I've had a Discatcher Sport for 3yrs and it is plenty durable and portable. I was torn between getting it and a DB5, but am glad I went with the Sport. I would probably buy a Instep basket before I would get a M14

Get an in-step basket, cheap, all metal, lighter than the db-5, and i have had mine for two years and it's held up great. the only thing i did to it was add an inner ring of chains. rarely do i have a spit out with it.

I am a big fan of the M-14. I used to keep one in the back seat of my monte carlo AT ALL TIMES when I was in college. Quick setup time, very durable, and most importantly visually looks just like a basket on the course. It will spit out some that a chainstar would catch, but that effect helps you develop a lob style that won't blow by the basket on the rare occasion that you miss...

So whats the deal with the CHING Chainmaster Basket?
Is it any good? How does it compare to the others?

Got mine on clearence as Sam's Club for $37, added chains for less than $20. Sale is over, but they get them back seasonally. Got it around Xmas two years ago.

Do you guys see that the DC Sport seems to really rust on the chains? At least mine has in just a little bit of time and little bit of rain actually...
Just curious???

They are excellent! They are a little more expensive than the DB-5, but they have offset chains that catch better than any other portable and are comparable to baskets that cost twice as much. We had one set out for a few months at Lynx to test and it was great. Plus they won't rust like the Sport Catcher. I would definitely stay away from the M14 and Instep baskets.

I'm looking for purely subjective reviews from individuals who have used more than one type of portable basket UNDER $200 and don't mind giving their opinions on which are "better" or "best" overall. DGA, Ching, Lightning, Innova, Instep,...In a nutshell, best value for the least amount of money? :D
Thanks!
