Woke up this morning and I decided to check out some of the players signed up for Am Worlds and 5 or 6 out of the players I checked have accepted Cash several times at a sanctioned event this year, checked the First Class Challenge (A/NT) and several of the people Playing Advanced have accepted Cash this year.....Whats up with that? I thought if you Accept the Cash at a Sanctioned event you can no longer play anything but a pro Division?

as long as their rating is under 970 they are eligible for everything but majors- not sure why there are guys registered for worlds after taking $ but i saw some names on there too that i thought were long-time pros.

some could have possibly received merch in lieu of ca$h at those events in question...

Not saying this is the case with EVERYONE you may be talking about, but 1 thing the online scoring will not do is take words instead of numbers in the prize column - so UNOFFICIALLY-if a TD does not leave it blank when Joe Pro took merch instead of cash - it shows him taking cash. Then on the TD report, which we know everyone completes correctly ;)
you are supposed to let the PDGA know who declined cash and in the OFFICIAL results it will be displayed correctly, but sometimes that is weeks or MONTHS down the road depending on when the next ratings update is.

Some long time pros have also reclassified or in 2006 took amnesty, so you may see them playing pro everywhere, but if they declined cash they are still considered AMS - if they actually took cash in a PDGA SAnctioned Event- then they are NOT supposed to be able to play Majors, of which the Worlds are.

Hope that helps a little.

Ahh...I didn't know you could play Pro and if you cash $250 you can take that in Merch.

I'm sure out of some of the people I see that have cashed in pro that have managed to get thru playing Worlds!

Look up their individual stats records to see if it shows any cash won this year.

Is there a rule for ams who have cashed in an open division, but are still registered as an am and plan on staying registered as an am, but want to compete in a major am event....... Can they or can they not?

If the PDGA has your cashing on record, you'll be prevented from playing amateur in an Am Major event even if they didn't catch it for your member renewal. Even if the PDGA doesn't catch it, many am players scour the records of the players who enter Am Majors to see if they have cashed. Someone will catch it. The only option is to request the PDGA office for reinstatement as an amateur (and get approved) to be on the safe side.

What does it take for reinstation, or who exactly do they have to contact?
