I don't know much about who is building it or whatnot, but they started a club and the course is being built right now.

Pretty cool of them to link to the PFDS website. Wish it were current though. I wonder if anyone knows we are putting on a NT event?

I know you can't tell everything without personally seeing it (and especially without fully understanding the space limitations given) but from what I can tell, the current course design doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

I ran into the Competition Director from Pro Worlds 2005 a few weeks ago and he told me that his son is attending California University of PA and putting in a course there which the son designed. He talked about installing Flypads so it appears to be close at hand. I could very well be wrong and there are surely exceptions to the rule, but I can't get all that excited about a course designed by a college student.

I'll never understand why people think that just anyone can design a good disc golf course. With a certified master course designer in J. Gary Dropcho located less than an hour away, it really boggles my mind.

I am a CalU Alumni and I sent an e-mail to the faculty advisor offering any help that might be needed for their club or course....so maybe they will ask for some course tweaking advice...

Below is Dave Macormacks response to some questions about the Grove City Course.

Looking like july 1st,, I think they are looking for players to adopt holes for beautification,, check out there FB page.

This course is going to be really sweet with a little work.

The layout if awesome and the course is going to be very challenging, lot of elevation , wooded holes, a creek and a few longer holes on t he back 9. I’d say it plays to a par 63.

Adopt a hole in the woods a make it look nice!"

Sounds decent to me.

Tim the Grove City course is not the course that Gateway designed. That course is in Oil City. The Grove City course is being built by some other golfers.

Jeff the CalU course is being designed and built by 2 of the people who play Knob doubles and go to school there. They are good players who have played all of our courses and understand what disc golf in Western, PA is all about. They were asked to shorten many of the initial holes because the university wanted it more accessible to every level of player.

As for not asking us or J Gary, Pat did get the proposal from J Gary.. I don't mind that he is taking it in his own hands because he goes to school there and he is the one who has gone about making this happen. ANd besides, we got enough going on these days that it's kinda nice to have others do the work.

AND AS FOR ADOPT A HOLE.....How about adopting a hole at Linbrook for $500 and you get your name on the tee-sign for life and you will be able to play here a lot more often. WE NEED MORE SPONSORS!!!!

Oh yeah and I am excited for the Oil City course because Lori and I have a camp up in Tionesta only 35 minutes from the course. We will be having a disc golf tournament/bonfire/campout at our house in late summer. Invitations will be sent out in June sometime.

The scorecard (http://docs.google.com/fileview?id=0BwNmtMCf8p6lZGE0MzlmYzQtYjUxYy00MzI0L WI4YjEtMWJjNzVlMmZmMDJi&hl=en) shows all holes as par 3s varying in length from 198 feet to 384 feet. Memorial Park and the disc golf course are literally right next door to Grove City Area High School and the facility should service that player demographic quite well, even if it's not something I personally would be interested in. This course will absolutely fulfill its stated primary mission of establishment of Grove City's first disc golf course and promoting disc golf in the Grove City, PA area.

Dan Kulp and friends put the course in at Memorial Park and used Disc Golf Foundation as its fiscal sponsor to allow sponsors/donors to get a tax deduction for their contributions. They raised enough money to install 9 DB Lightning baskets, tee signs and a bulletin board for the first nine holes.

I played the par 27 course on Monday. It is designed for recreational players and the park is adjacent to the high school. It is a fun layout with longest hole about 340ft. Mostly open shots in grassy park with mature trees. Very pretty. The course should get a lot of play.

I have concerns that the tee for hole 2 is in the fairway of hole 1, which I expressed to the club members when I conferred with them April 2010. Tee signs are installed at the back of the mulched tee boxes, but I assume that was to eliminate extra mower turns by the boro maintenance crew. I also don't like the blind tee on hole 3.

Plans include a back nine, perhaps in wooded area in back section of park away from other users.
