15th Annual Brent Hambrick Memorial Open
June 4th – 5th, 2011

The 15th Annual Brent Hambrick Memorial Open will once again be contested at the scenic Hoover Reservoir in Westerville, Ohio. Play will be contested on the 27 Hole Brent Hambrick Memorial DCG and the 18 hole temporary west course.

Columbus has been a stop on the prestigious PDGA tour since the early 90’s when Brent Hambrick (PDGA #2797) ran one of the best tournaments in the country - The Columbus Open. Brent set the standard for all tournaments with his professionalism and attention to details. After losing his battle with Leukemia in 1997, the tournament was renamed in his honor and has been a charity fundraiser for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. To date, the BHMO has raised over $40,000 for this charity. The Columbus Flyers Disc Golf Club takes great pride in hosting the BHMO. We continue to strive to present the most competitive courses and the best player experience possible, all the while “Keeping the Memory Alive”.The BHMO features a final 9 with the famous “Dam Shot” and one of the biggest galleries you will see all year. With many player amenities from a players’ party at Quaker Steak and Lube to Dairy Queen Treats, we hope your tournament experience is enjoyable and memorable. We look forward to seeing old friends, and making new ones.

Cordially,

Columbus Flyers DGC

I would like to ask anyone who would like to help our fundraising to donate an item for the raffle. Our pre awards raffle has been a very popular staple of our event. Through this and many other activities thoughout the weekend we are able to raise over $4000.00 for our charity, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, in the memory of Brent.
Our goal this year is to reach the $5000.00 mark!
If you have a unique disc or item for our raffle from your club or yourself, please contact me, mail, or bring items with you to the event and drop off at tournament HQ.
I thank you for your consideration,
Paul Jay- 2011 BHMO TD

Some folks have called asking if the pro side of this event is Full. No just the am side. Those folks are using firefox to access our website and when they go to registration it is pulling up a cached page from last year. If this happens to you refresh or use f5 button to refresh your browser.
Again the pro side is still open. Ams are FULL!
Thank you and look forward to seeing all of you in a couple weeks!!

If that 40 Ulibarri shot yesterday in R2 isn't a typo, we've got another 1100+ rated round at an NT. Great shooting!

Looks like it will hold up as a round over 1100 when we do the official ratings processing... even though he did need an ace to get over 1100... ;)

Not the only one. Schwebby aced in his 1100 round at my event a few years ago.

This is not a criticism whatsoever of Tournament Director Paul Jay because he certainly did his part in this thread, but I'm a little shocked at how a PDGA National Tour event came and went with so little fanfare. There were 12 posts in this thread and 8 of them were from the TD. This has been one of the most prestigious stops on the PDGA tour since the early 90s...how come nobody got on here to talk about it?

The message board has without a doubt declined over the years. I have a few theories as to why.

- As mentioned above, Facebook. Should I actually want to ask Chris something or really any other disc golfer, I simply use facebook where in the past I would do it here. Sending a chat or a standard message on facebook is simply easier that on here.

Also, facebook, especially with events, have cut down a lot on questions to TDs as much. I would say for every question I get on this board for a tournament I run, I get 5 - 10 on facebook.

Hearing top players opinions of events, rather than getting somewhat self censored comments on here, you get much more open opinions by simply reading statuses.

- The PDGA website is awful to navigate. It goes down frequently, is very slow, has a lot of ads and when compared to most sites, including disc golf sites, is very outdated.

- While I am 100% in favor of moderation on this board and the need for it, people simply do not want to be restricted in any manner with their speech. And people just simply left when funny threads like "Ask Hawkgammon" are just no longer around.

- The PDGA, both for announcements by staff and general comments by the membership, used this as one of it's main forms of communication for years. It's just simply easier to do the same on local disc golf sites, email, texting, twitter, and as mentioned above, facebook.

This used to be one of my favorite places on the net - I would literally check the site daily and usually 10 - 15 times a day - because it was just fun. When I'm not running an event, weeks go by that I don't even visit, much less log on.

I was able to capture some of the pro clinic, final 9 and Awards ceremony. All are unedited, even the bad ones, feel free to share. Link is to my Flickr account with Batch 1 of 3 for this years "15th Anniversary" event.
