The TDO4 is a PDGA A-tier event!
The TitleDISC Open is back for its 4th year, and this year we are proud to announce that the PDGA has approved us for A-tier (SuperTour) status! We will be part of the Texas Swing series of events, in collaboration with the greatest TDs in Texas.
Because this event is partnered with the US Masters, we *will not* be offering age-protected divisions. If you are 40+ and would like to play an age-protected tournament, we highly recommend attending the Tim Selinske US Masters in Hunstville the same weekend. If you are under 40 and therefore not eligible for the US Masters, come to DFW and experience two of the best courses in the Dallas area!
We will be using both Harry Myers Park in Rockwall, TX and Audubon Park in Garland, TX. The two courses are about 15 minutes apart, easily within driving distance. All divisions will play one round each at Audubon and Harry Myers on Saturday, with a shotgun start, following the players' meeting. On Sunday, all divisions will play one round at Harry Myers, using a teetime format with the amateur divisions teeing first. Sunday's teetimes will be posted Saturday evening, once all scores have been calculated. We are planning to have a player's party Saturday night, and will provide teetimes then, as well. More info on that party as we have it.
Tournament Headquarters will be *indoors* this year. The City Of Rockwall has been nice enough to sponsor this tournament with (among other things), usage of the building in the "skate park" parking lot at Harry Myers. This is the Westernmost of the three parking lots, directly south and a couple hundred feet from hole 5's teebox. It is a short walk to any hole on the course.
This is going to be one of the biggest tournaments that DFW has ever seen! We are limiting the field to 144 players total, so get signed up ASAP to secure your spot! We are expecting some of the top touring pros to be in attendance. The Texas Swing is one solid month of big-time tournaments in Texas - all the big names will be here! Remember, because this is a PDGA A-tier event for all divisions, you *must* be a current PDGA member in order to play. If you do not get registered in time, there is sure to be a big gallery for the top Open cards on Sunday - feel free to come out and watch!
If you or your business would like to be a sponsor of this or any TitleDISC tournament, please contact Deidre Dann - deidre@titledisc.com . If you have general questions about this event, please contact Josh Dann - josh@titledisc.com
Sponsorship can be purchased online here: http://www.titledisc.com/catalog/83
Registration is happening here: http://www.titledisc.com/node/4454

By the way, we will have a basket for 1st place in each amateur division, Trophies for 1st-3rd in ALL divisions, and at LEAST $1500 in added cash for Open. Three world champs are already on the list - will *you* get to play with them?
Available at the event will be full-color Texas Swing Ultrastar minis and hotstamped CryZtal Nukes, Innova CFR TDO4 hot-stamped Katanas, Glow Teebirds, Glow Bosses, and Makos. We will also have 300 other tournament-stamped discs, plenty of TitleDISC gear and a full compliment of Innova, Discraft, Gateway, and Vibram discs and accessories. This event keeps getting bigger every year!

Yea, this is going to be sweet! How long has it been since there was a tournament at Adubon?

It's been awhile for sure. The last one I remember was 6 or 7 years ago. not even sure it was sanctioned.
If anyone would like to join us for a work day @ Audubon, we will be there April 2 at 10am. I will bring some tools and *hopefully* the new rubber teepads. I'll have some Texas Swing fundraiser discs for sale to help fund the teepad improvements. If you have clippers, shovels, etc... bring them with you :). The course has been receiving some much needed love from locals lately, we just want to help further their efforts and get it in tip-top shape for the tournament!

Is there going to be a host hotel for this event?
baldguy
Mar 29 2011, 04:15 AM
Because of the large number of locals playing this event, I couldn't guarantee a big enough number of rooms to get any deals better than we already get as PDGA members. I am recommending the Rockwall LaQuinta to everyone, but it's not an official host hotel.
on another note, check out the TitleDISC facebook group page for pics of the players pack shirts - We will have two dry-fit tees to choose from for all ams. Ams AND pros will get a full-color Texas Swing mini as well!

some updates on the pro shop goodies for this weekend:
two new TitleDISC t-shirt designs, two tournament dry-fits, plenty of new hats and visors, and over 1000 discs to choose from, plus CFR discs galore, including Texas Swing CryZtal Nukes and USADGC CryZtal Sparkle Nukes.
Also, PLAYERS PARTY will be at the Flying Saucer on the Lake Saturday night, just a few miles from the two courses. teetimes will be posted there - we should have the whole patio area to ourselves! Come sample any of their over 200 beers and their awesome food.
We will have STARBUCKS COFFEE Sunday morning and GENGHIS GRILL around lunchtime. With the teetime format for Sunday, this should give every player a chance to have some food before and/or after their rounds.
We still have spots in all divisions available - get signed up ASAP to secure your spot. NO REGISTRATION will be taken the morning of the event. 8 days to go!

just 3 spots left, MPO, FPO, or MA1 only!
We're looking at some really nice payouts for this event - $1000 for 1st place MPO, $400 for 1st place FPO, 1st place in each am division is getting a full-sized basket, and everyone is getting some sort of players pack. Pros will get a full-color mini, ams will get that plus a dry-fit tournament tee. We will have $1 CTP throws for some other great prizes and teetimes on Sunday means there won't be any long lines to get payout.
If you aren't playing, you might still want to come out and watch - we have some of the top names in all of disc golf competing this weekend!

They're within the "grace period" that follows a ratings update. They were not rated that high before the most recent update.

Does anybody know why some of the pros dropped out of this event?
baldguy
Apr 11 2011, 12:40 PM
I'm not even sure they know. At first, the complaint was about low payout, but they had their information wrong. Then, once they figured out the payout was going to be good (but they had already no-show'd), it became about lack of course preparation. Apparently there is an unwritten rule somewhere that the courses need to be fully painted and marked days before the tournament. Nobody ever told me about that requirement, but these three decided to take their frustration out on me. Now that I know about this requirement, I will work to make sure it happens for the TDO5.
By now I know that you can't please everyone, so I'm not surprised that there were a few unhappy campers. I'm just surprised at the way they handled the situation. I really expected more from people that I previously held in high regard. This was the first A-tier that we've been fully responsible for, and only the second one we've been involved in. We exceeded the added cash requirements by over 20%, we payed amateurs out like crazy, and we tried really hard to be sure everyone had fun on the course, at the players party, and just hanging out watching some great golf. I feel like the three who bailed on us really missed out.
145 other people had a great time this weekend! I'd like to give a big thanks to all of the traveling pros that stuck around and gave some constructive feedback and helpful suggestions on how to make next year's tournament even better. Dion Arlyn, Nikko Locastro, Matt Hall, Bradley Williams, and Will Schusterick each took the time to give their opinions in person, and all of that advice will be put to good use over the next year. A Special thanks to Paul Ulibarri who might just be my favorite pro on the tour right now - a class act on and off the course. A few kind words at the right time made up for the negativity spread by those other three. I appreciated it, and I know that the locals appreciated it as well. These local golfers had been so looking forward to having some world-class talent come through. Many of them were at first disappointed in the actions of a few, but were bolstered by the players who stayed. There was certainly no lack of world-class talent in town this weekend. I don't think anybody in the 100-person gallery following the lead card cared where the dropouts were or why they didn't show. I saw their smiles, heard their collective gasps and cheers, and generally felt the positive energy that the crowd had.
That was the tournament's greatest reward for me - knowing that these people I grew up with, play golf with, and share a community with all got a real treat this weekend. I'm grateful to all 145 of the players who came out and were a part of this event. I'm thankful for all the people that came up, shook my hand, thanked the people who were working on the course and in the pro shop, and generally enjoyed themselves. I feel privileged to be able to hand out over $4500 in cash (over $5100 including the ace pot!) and over $5000 in other prizes and player packs.
I genuinely love this sport and the people in it. My wife and I put in hundreds of hours to make this happen. My team busted their butts to help set up, tear down, and run the tournament. Our bodies are tired, our minds are fried, but none of us cares about that one bit - we had a great time bringing you this tournament :)

This is the first time in a while that i've been on the board and posted. The negatives have really started to take their toll on me so I don't visit here often.
I was not at the event but thank you for running an A-tier. It takes a tremendous amount of work to pull off an event of this calibur.
I've seen and heard this kind of thing across the country. These guys do nothing but hurt themselves in the long run. They push tournament directors away from the game and take money out of their own pocket. The tournament scene is too small for this garbage. Pros should be kissing butt of td's who run large events with added cash.
I've played in Lots of Atier events in the past few years and this was THE BEST all around by far.
$100 in Merch for top 12 in Advanced is huge and getting $450 for winning is huge....Not bashing any other tournaments but I've got 105 for winning an A Tier and under a 100 for 2nd in an A Tier.

Josh,
You, Deidre, and Kevin M. all did a fantastic job. I am sure that I am missing quite a few people off of the list, but I do not know everone elses names. The event was very well run and smooth. Tee times worked out great on Sunday, and payout was a breeze. I wish my game was better, but that is how it goes. If the only complaint is about the Audubon course not having all pin placements down, then consider it a victory.
It takes a lot of work to pull something this big off. I bet most have no idea the amount of time it took to plan all of this in advance (ordering disc, working with city, getting permits, all the other merch getting ordered on time, getting sponsors, setting up food, water, players party, ect...) I could go on forever. Most people think this crap just happens. Being a TD is a thankless job most times. My hat is off to all of you for a job well done. I will be back and I am sure that the pros will too.
The only complaint I have is about the wind, but that is not your fault! LOL
