Hello:

This event IS STILL HAPPENING!

Just wanted to give a heads up about changes to the tournament format. The PDGA sanctioning has been dropped from the event to satisfy demand for a low-priced, fun format. We're expecting a large turnout from the Live Oak and Valdosta areas and hope that our friends in Jacksonville, Gainesville, Tallahassee and beyond will join us for a very fun weekend.

The Suwannee Spring Fling with Zach Deputy was a great day of disc golf and music.

"Toad" McReynolds and Ryan DePasquale ran away with the doubles competition shooting a scorching 53 (-9) from the blue tees to set the doubles course record. Toad also took the singles competition with a 50 from the red tees. Patty Young won the women's competition, shooting a personal best 59. The 14 year old young gun, Justin, from Wisconsin took the intermediate division with a hot round of 52. First-time competitor, Buck, took the recreational title.

Huge thanks to Zach Deputy and his crew for promoting, playing disc golf, and providing the sweet night concert. They did an awesome job saving this event after our original TD and event sponsor suddenly backed out for dubious reasons.

Also thanks to Mark Gill and discgolfcenter.com for donating CTP prizes.

We are currently planning to establish a regular series of events that feature music and disc golf together at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. Look for multiple days, multiple bands, low entry fees and PDGA C-tier sanctioning in the future!

p.s. I am the course pro for the Magnolia Disc Golf Course at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. As such, it is my responsibility to oversee all disc golf related events at the park. For this event, I had delegated TD duties to the individual that suddenly pulled out. I should have supervised more closely and insured that this did not happen.

I apologize to those that were inconvenienced by this. I understand that several of you had recently joined the PDGA and had hoped for this to be your first PDGA event. I also understand that some of you had made plans to travel a great distance to get to this event, including from Colorado and Wisconsin.

It is my philosophy that, once an event is posted as sanctioned on the PDGA calendar, it should not be cancelled, except under extreme circumstances. It is my promise to you that I will personally direct future events at the SOSMP to make sure that people are not let down in this fashion again.

In flight,
Mark "Denny" Ritner
