Is this only going to be 3 rounds this year?
Smitty2004
Jan 25 2011, 11:37 PM
Yes, the GBO will only be 3 rounds this year.
The last few years, we have started early and just felt like we were rushing to get people out of town and on the road at a decent time. We kicked it around for a while and decided to give it a shot this year.
Most of the time, the worst part of any tourney is the drive home after a killer weekend.

Intermediate division is full for the GBO. If you didn't get registered, you are not completely out of luck. There are still several opportunities for you to be part of this great disc golf weekend.
1) LAST CHANCE QUALIFYING- You can win the spot on Friday by shooting the best qualifying round. The initial cost is $20 (That will be applied toward your GBO entry) then each round after that will be $10. Play as many times as you would like.
2) ONLINE AUCTION- Starting the 1st of April DD will be running an online auction. The minimum bid will be the cost of the entry fee. The winner of the auction will get the last guaranteed spot for the division.
3) PLAY THE GBOVERFLOW- This event will feature 3 rounds of 13 holes. Competitors will get treated as well as GBO competitors. It will also allow you the opportunity to watch the best in the game battle it out for the GBO Championship on Sunday.
4) Play in a division above your rating or in an age protected division if you qualify.

Hey Smitty!
I realize you may not know the answer yet, but any ideas/thoughts on pool assignments? Maybe just maybe you all can have some sort of 72 per pool. Ideal but perfect for 3 rounds is 90 per pool and 4 pools.
Just wonderin,
a guy from STL.

Pools should look something like this:
------ PP CC G S
RD 1 C B D A
RD 2 B C A D
RD 3 D A C B
So basically:
A Pool- Silver, Gold, CC
B Pool- CC, Peter, Silver
C Pool- Peter, CC, Gold
D Pool- Gold, Silver, PP
Silver is Jones West, Gold is Jones East, PP is Peter Pan, and CC is Country Club.
Pools and numbers will look something like this:
A pool
MPO 80
FPO: 10
B Pool
MPM Masters 40
MPG Grandmasters 10
MM1 Advanced Masters 40
C Pool
MA1 Advanced 80
MG1 Advanced Grandmasters 10
D Pool
MA2: 75
FW2 & FW3: 15
*Numbers are tentative and are subject to change based on demand and availability.

Any word on host hotel?
Communication has been started with a motel, but no response as of yet. Rusco is going to give them a call later this morning.
Here is a list of many of the motels in Emporia.

Thanks Smitty, sorry I missed it the first time. Unless i missed something once again...It brings up another question.. This is a USDGC qualifier and acording to the rules, you have to play the same courses as the pro's. So you have eliminated anyone not playing MPO and FPO from qualifying? Or will there be some sort of exception made? Its not going to stop me from playing anyway, but just wanted to bring that up.
Smitty2004
Feb 25 2011, 08:08 PM
DANG! Mutt, you may be right.
I will talk with Rusco and we will see what is up. With the excitement of adding the Country Club Course the USDGC qualifier was the last thing on our mind.
Kind of crazy thinking that everyone has a shot at qualifying for the USDGC.
Will post when I have an answer.

I may be right??? thats a first :) I am excited about playing at a country club too...

Rusco proves once again he is the man. He had already contacted Innova and since you are basically playing your rating. We are good and shouldn't have any problems qualifying some people for USDGC.
So you are wrong. :-)

This was, just like every other time I have played in the GBO, a real good time. Competitors, commoridy(sp), and seeing old friends. Competition could not have been better in the MM1 division. It is just amazing to see the level of play go up each year. DD and Crew, hats off again to a wonderful challenging tourny. I will be back each year until...
Peace,

Tanner,
That is something we are working for, but it it doesn't happen, next year will still be better than this year.
We have some great things in the planning stages for next year that will make this year's feel like a local b-tier. Spread the word for GBO 2012. It will be fantastic!
Smitty2004
Apr 20 2011, 01:34 PM
Tanner-
We have kicked the NT thing around over the last few years. I have always argued against it for the same reason year after year.
We already get an NT type pro field, and I think we will continue doing this.
If the PDGA is going to showcase these events as the NT, they need to be the main backing force. As it is now, some more added cash, and a request and you are pretty much golden. The PDGA should pursue the biggest and best events and do what they can to secure them as NT stops. That may be added cash by them or dropping all PDGA fees for the event, or added something to the event.
I do think the GBO could make it as an NT, with no doubt. I don't know that the event would be any better if it was.

I definitely wasn't insinuating you need to do more. DD events are among the best tournaments I've ever been too. In my dream world you guys would run every event I play. I appreciate all the work you guys do. Thank you!
I completely understand where you're coming from. We have an A-tier event every year that is always a C-tier to avoid the local players from getting reamed for non-member fees and the larger-tier fees. See the Legion of Doom thread :)
