DG,

I just had a thought......no there's not smoke coming from my ears :)

I think others would agree that people on the wait list for tournaments get aggravated when they see people DNF after the first day at a tournament like this.

Maybe you should discourage this by not allowing DNFs to play in the following year's Azalea (there would have to be an exception for people DNFing due to physical reasons or family emergencies, etc).

I would like to see something like this to discourage people from quitting as it makes me aggravated for those that really wanted to play having to watch people quit because they had one or two lousy rounds.

Just my two pennies.

Feb 09 2011, 11:07 AM
I understand the sentiment, but I don't think TDs want to get involved in deciding which DNFs are justified.

Maybe they could publicize the names and encourage ostracizing those who quit in anger, or just because they're playing poorly.

Feb 09 2011, 05:30 PM
I think that is an interesting idea as well, but actually implementing it would be tough.

Looking at last year's results there were only 6 DNFs which seems actually low compared to other tournaments.

bgwvdave
Feb 09 2011, 06:35 PM
One of them was the TD

mus
Feb 09 2011, 07:26 PM
Yeah.....just a thought.....and the TD has the "mental stress" excuse :)

Anywayz......hopefully this will help people think twice before dropping out this year.....but prolly not ;)

MTL21676
Feb 09 2011, 08:42 PM
Considering the PDGA doesn't even recognize the difference of a withdraw and quitting. this won't ever be the case.

I can also say that the PDGA does not discipline someone for quitting with class and professionalism - and nor should they.

In the end, the person who chooses to quit is not hurting the tournament or the event. It is their money and they can choose to use it how they see fit. As long as the DNF does not disrupt those who choose to use their money for 4 rounds of serious golf, there is nothing wrong with it and no penalty should occur because of it.

2nd.

I think it is often more professional and even showing a sense of class to walk away, DNF, or quit Rather than stay and Show your "@$$" because your not playing up to your own expectations. Of course it would be great if people would just shut up and just step it up, but sometimes you just cant. So if your not Having fun playing, then don't do it. But most of all have respect for the other people around you who deserve the same chance to play and have fun. Why ruin it for them because you suck?...lol GET OUTTA HEEahh !!!!!!! Peace!!!!

Wow....I sparked a conversion!

I agree with all these points....especially when someone isn't doing well and complaining through an entire round....that's never fun listening to.

I see it from both sides and I now withdraw my previous suggestion because your right.....someone shouldn't be punished for making a withdrawal from a tourney they aren't playing well in when they are gonna bring everyone else down by complaining.

It would be the right thing to do as well as professional to just separate yourself so as to not interfere with the others that paid to play.

Thanks guys,

CLee Your 56 on 2004 was hella tight when you think how gnarley the castle was back then. with the trampling of the last 6 years and lost trees the castles teeth are not as sharp as they used to be. i would love to see 50 this year.

What is the official par for the course?

I'm counting 65 with 15 being a par 5.

bgwvdave
Feb 16 2011, 11:14 AM
Course Par Mus is 64. Hole 15 is a fair par 4 in the shorts and a hard par 4 in the longs.
score card can be found at www.newhanoverdgc.com

mus
Feb 16 2011, 05:19 PM

Feb 17 2011, 12:25 AM
haha no worries adammus. You know even if par is relative there are arguments on both sides about 15. I am reluctant to change par out there because of tradition. but in my opinion hole 15 is much harder than hole 12. so mentally i play 12 as a par 4 and 15 as a par 5. either way if i play the two holes in 9 shots or less i consider that a success

Not to start a huge par argument...

But assigning par on a course like this is VERY important. Yes it is relative and in the end, lower number wins no matter if you call it -30 or +30.

But since we have a rule that penalizes people based on par, we need to make sure it is always correct.

I'm fine calling it whatever you want, just make sure it's consistent.

IMO...The castle is...
Front 9

333433453

Back 9

445335443

66!

That's one of the group CTP holes!!!

mus
Feb 17 2011, 08:42 AM
Oh.....and based on the penalization thing that you are talking about.....let's just make all holes par 3! :D

Joe,
I am so glad that you asked this. Consistancy is a big thing with me. i think it goes a long way to creating integrity. lsited below is a run down of the Azalea Disc Golf Tournament with me as a TD.

2009 we went live with the registration the day i started the thread which was Feb. 12th. the second week of the month....we filled in 5 days

2010 with the event filling so quickly i moved the registration up 1 week to the first week of Feb. i posted the thread, flyer and paypal link on Feb. 4th.....we filled in 3 days.

2011 i had a lot of interest this year so i started the thread a little earlier on Jan. 19th to announce that registration would go live on Feb. 3rd......we filled in 75 minutes

anyone who contacted me got a reply the same day with the details about registration. from here on out as long as i have anyhting to do with the Azalea Registration will open up on the first Thursday of Feb.

Our club meeting is the first Tuesday we deicide Azalea Details and that gives me 2 days to get ready for the madness. i don't think there are very many disc golfers out there that don't know how to get in touch with me one way or the other.....there are many avenues and i think anyone that really knows me knows how quickly i reply. Thanks for asking Joe and i hope this answers your question. Holla if there is anyhting i can do for you!

bgwvdave
Feb 17 2011, 12:28 PM
Not to start a huge par argument...

we need to make sure it is always correct.

I feel confident that my response to hole 15 is correct. it is a fair par 4 in the short and a hard par 4 in the longs. and in relation to your scenario of having someone show up late on that one particular hole i am fine with him or her recieving an 8 if they miss it entirely.

and i would have to aggree with mus. Hole 16 is the easiest par 3 on the back. I know hole 16 has made Christian "big daddy" Coursey over $600 in ace pools the last 4 years:-)
