Just starting thread, the ad in the last magazine was correct, but the dates on the tour calendar are wrong...
event is on March 26 and 27, and kicks off the TEXAS SWING, four consecutive weeks of huge events in TEXAS!!!
Victoria Open will be played on the traditional course and also the Fox Run course on the other side of the park. We will be posting maps and distances soon...
This event will be on TITLEDISC and registration will open on or around February 1st. With the two courses we are capping this event at 160 players, 80 in pool a (pro pool) and 80 in the b pool (amateurs). We understand the fact that the b pool is gonna fill up quick and some will be left out, on March 15 we could be adding some ams to the a pool, I know that brings up some questions, but both pools will be full at the event. If there are a lot of spots in the a pool, we could move advanced, advanced women and/or advanced master into pool a.WE WILL NOT BE DOING ANY REGISTRATION THE DAY OF THE EVENT!!!
Riverside has been doing lots of work on both courses. They also are working on some awesome players packs.
more info to come...

I noticed that some folks are waiting until the last minute to sign up. This can lead to the possibility that you will not get on the list. Please keep in mind that this tournament at any moment will fill up. This is the longest running event in Texas on one of the best courses in Texas. Just to let ya'll know a little bit about the Fox Run course it is longer than what last years course was. We have it both technical and long. Not technical like Ingleside Red Course, but technical non the less. The course will be available to play the week preceding the tournament. Don't wait until then to sign up though cause you will not get a spot. We ARE NOT taking registration the week of the event so "get'er dun"

I knew where the list was, that was my way of encouraging you to post the link, each time you have an update, in the thread someone lazy like me can just click the link versus having to click the schedule link, then find the right date, then find the tourney ... you get the idea.

Feb 22 2011, 09:53 AM
i've never seen it that way. i thought 11a, 15a & 15b were part of the permanent course. Complete with concrete tees and all.
rocknhardstx
Feb 22 2011, 11:18 AM
This year holes 15B, 15c and 15 are the first three holes of the Fox Bend course. That leaves the remaining 18 holes, including 11a as your Riverside course.
Holes with alternate placements will be in the short position on Saturday and in their longest positions on Sunday. Fox Bend holes will remain the same except for perhaps hole 3 (15).

Riverside course is actually 21 holes, this includes 11a, 15b and 15c, all permanent holes. We will not be skipping any holes. When you play the Riverside course, after playing holes 14, you go to hole 16. 15b, 15c and 15 are holes 1,2 and 3 of the Fox Bend, that means holes #4 to #18 are in the Fox Bend portion of the park. 6 of the holes are the same, but there are a few surprises, to include lots of ob string and mandos. The total distances of both courses are surprisingly similar.

The Quality Inn will be the host hotel for the tournament. They have reserved 20 rooms for us until March 19th. Their regular rate is 84.99 per night, but for 3/25 and 3/26 if you mention discgolf tournament when you register you will receive a rate of $65 per night.
Lots going on in Victoria tournament weekend, so rooms will be a bit of a challenge to find. Reserve your room now at 361 578-2030.
B pool is almost full, will not be taking amateur registrations until March 15th...
Juniors will not be included in either pool, we are setting up two 13 hole rounds so they can get a round rating. They will be playing during lunchtime and possibly after 2nd round.

We have a group out there doing bbq, tx style. Not sure of price, but it will be reasonable.
Nothing planned sat nite, except staying at course for a while trying to float a keg or 2.

Not to disrespect the hard work of the td's, committee or volunteers... But if you want to host a big tournament and gain national or even regional attention and respect, speedy score posting or even some sort of media post somewhere to get the updates out there to the public who want to follow the tournament is mandatory this day and age... Almost 10pm in Texas Sunday night and yesterday's scores should be up as a minimum??
Delegate responsibilities to people who can help get the job done... Keep up the good stuff...

ATTENTION 3rd Coast -

PDGA Tour Manager should be assisting in areas that are requested of him, ask and you shall receive. But there should be plenty of PDGA knowledgeable people helping the Victoria Open staff get tasks executed...

To Scott,
There is a TD. Why are you asking who to direct stuff to?
I know nothing about payout. Did it not meet the requirements?
As to the tourney. I have no complaints. Sure, there were some mistakes, but overall, none that would detract from my enjoyment. Thanks to the folks at Third Coast for their efforts.

i had a great time. i sure would like to see the scores, but i can wait......i guess. to be honest it wasn't the smoothest run tourny i've played, but not near the worst,if there is such a thing . can't think of anything i'd rather been doin'. i think when you put a-tier in front of it people expect a few things, i get it. but don't forget about the love of the game itself.

[QUOTE=james_mccaine;1451913]To Scott,

The TD isn't always to person who I should be directing questions too. Typically with big tourneys there's a big staff that helps out with "issues". Also its a polite to try and get someone from the tournament to come on the MB and answer people's concerns.
I'm a TD too and am not looking to enflame anything, just trying to hook players up with someone who can answer their questions.

Also, get the scores posted already, there's no excuse for not having the scores posted yet. That should always be the last thing you do each day as TD, regardless of the size of the event.
Scott you know exactly who to speak with and you know my email and phone number. I havent heard a thing from you for a few days.
Thanks to SADC for letting us use their scoreboard over the weekend, it made a big difference.
Scott- I would expect better from you, not everyone lives on facebook and this message board and to throw us to the wolves by saying you are getting lots of complaints and you havent tried to contact me.... Wow, you are going to use this forum and our event to flex your muscles as the newly appointed state coordinator of Texas! WOW!!!
There ARE excuses for not having certain things done...
we had a couple of issues this past weekend, but we all survived and most everyone seemed happy. There were 146 golfers in victoria this weekend, is it fair for the opinion of a couple of people override the majority of golfers who had a great time?
Scores should have been posted sat nite and sun nite, but they werent, they will be up soon.

The players pack was valued at $44, two discs, double mini, disc nation cert, stickers, etc.
Players were charged only $30 from registration.
So payout issues in a field where 50% of field is paid, i am not surprised.
my email is
[email protected] if you need further verification or have any comments, questions or concerns. You can also voice concerns with the pdga and the tour manager.

way to go mike and bill! you know as well as i do that i'm usually the first one to come on here and complain. but really, i have NOTHING to complain about. in the years i've been playing maybe only one or two players' meetings have started on time. over all, you guys met or exceeded my expectations of an a-tier.
payout-schmayout... a bunch of peeps just want extra stuff for free. although only $24, last cash in my division got well over my entry fee worth! (payout, players pack, pdga fees... you whiners do the math)
thanks again!!!

I volunteer to be the PDGA Complaint Coordinator (I've already Fedexed the gas receipts for my HUMMER, please send mileage reimbursement ASAP!!!). To expedite this process, please specify to which of the four departments you are submitting your complaint:
1. Petty
2. The Usual
3. LISTEN TO ME!!!!
4. Miscellaneous (Including, but not limited to, spit putts that were in no way your fault)
The scores have not been reported for The Professional Open Division because Double G threw a spike hyzer that has still not landed. It's looking like a park job, but it could be an ace. Currently we estimate the landing to be 5pm CST.
As for the rest. I can only speak for my division.
Matt Hall beat me in a 17 hole play off to become the 2011 Victoria Recreational Mens Champion. Congrats Matt!!!! Brad Williams was actually beating us by 15 strokes going into the last hole of the fourth round. Brad then noticed Micah Winters watching him tee off on hole 18. Brad threw a fit about how only the players on his card are allowed to watch him play during any PDGA sanctioned event. Brad subsequently left to meet with his sports psychologist and failed to putt out. Lucky us!
I had fun...................

The scores are posted. When I uploaded them on Saturday night it never went through, my fault for not checking and daddy chester I am sorry! When we got home last night I had to get my kids fed and get things ready for work on Monday and help my kids finish their homework. So at 3 am I just wanted to get to sleep. It took us all day to recreate the scores due to the PDGA provided TD report. I had lost every score in the program as well as the players. Luckily we keep all the score cards and were able to work it out. Once again sorry for the delay and to the fellow that will never come back, it happens. You should not take things so seriously as you will never get out of this world alive, unless you are an astronaut. And you just have to come back down to Earth.
I would like to thank everyone for coming out to the 2011 Victoria Open. We hope to see everyone next year!

Last years tourney was awesome! This year not so much. Why there was so much difference? Also I would like to point out that an A tier comes with high expectations for a reason, after all it is an A tier. Just look at other A tier events and compare. The bar is high. If you thought nothing was wrong you weren't paying much attention. I love 3rd Coast and the many contributions that they have made to Texas Disc Golf. That is why it pains me to say I was surprised at the lack of everything at this tournament.

Mke - My bad. I shouldn't have posted that here. I just did it out of convenience as in a span of like 2 hours I get hit with some texts and some emails and some facebook messages and I was at work so I wanted to know who to direct them too. Didn't know without looking if you where the TD or not, just wanted to get a speedy resolution. I was at work and just posted. I should have known better. Lesson learned.
I'll direct opportunities for improvment directly to you Mike.

The two juniors not only received a $40+ players pack they received a trophy disc and picked out a disc of their choice.Vinnie Miller also hooked up both juniors with a cool Vibram Disc.
